Bridge Malfunction on PBG4 + Cinema Display

Bridge (CS3) works normally on my PBG4 (1.5ghz), and also on my aluminum Intel iMac + Cinema Display. However it does not work on PBG4 with Cinema Display connected. I can only see thumbnails, not previews, and the tabs for folders, metatags, etc. do not respond. The older Bridge (CS2) works just fine though. All systems are running OS 10.4.10. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Unless you havea REALLY good reason not to start by updating to 10.4.11 and the rest of the software updates from apple. Then make sure you have your Bridge updates all installed.
let us know how that goes

  • Bridge CS5 preview / slideshow not working on 27" Apple Cinema Display

I'm using my 2009 (black key) MacBookPro and Mac OS X 10.6.7 running Snow Leopard.
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Adobe Bridge CS5 works beautifully on my MBP, my photography workflow depends on Bridge.
However, when I attach my 27" Apple Cinema Display and try to preview images by hitting the space bar I get a gray screen. Likewise, the slideshow renders only gray.
It's not the "black out other monitor". I've cleared the cache to re-render all the previews.
I've scoured these forums as well as the Apple ones, and the helpful folks currently at Photoshop World in Orlando advised me that, collectively, the kind people here know everything.   I know I can't be the only photographer who uses this configuration. I'd like to use the display for client previews/ordering.
I would so appreciate any tips you may have for me; thank you in advance for your time.
    Warmly,
    Darcy

Yes, thank you. I found that post - among others when researching before I asked. I tried all the suggestions in that one and in the others.
My issue isn't low quality rendering in the preview and slideshow - my issue is NO rendering at all in slideshow and preview. It's just blank. Gray.
I deleted the cache in my library and through the Bridge program itself to rebuild the previews. I tried the various options of "software rendering" on and off, and different configurations in the preferences and none seem to make the preview or slideshow work. I have all the updates from Adobe and from Mac.
I tried importing the photos I need to show my clients (who are coming to my studio this evening!) into Lightroom 3, and the LR slideshow works. But using LR and having to import photos into it is an extra step not in my workflow.
Ideally, I can make Bridge work instead of making yet another resource-consuming copy of these photos on this computer via the Lr library.
So - current state is unsolved.
Lightroom 3 slideshow and preview works, but isn't ideal since it involves importing the images into Lr. Since that works - would that mean my video card is acceptable?
Bridge can show thumbnails on the 27" display but no preview or slideshow.
Bridge preview and slideshow works perfectly on my 15" MacBook Pro.
I'm so disappointed since I bought the 27" Apple Cinema Display this week and was told it would work with my computer "out of the box" - I was sure to ask several times, "so there's nothing else I need to buy or do to make this work with my programs? Just plugin and go?" and several times I was assured, "Yes... plugin and go."
I sure would appreciate anyone who's made Adobe Bridge work with a 27" display. Thank you!

  • Apple cinema display, IP address, Computer Name and Apache

I have been working on getting Apache, php, mySql setup to do a bit of web design and playing with wview (weather station), drupal, wordPress, etc.  Right off the bat, let me make clear that I am not attempting to host sites to the big bad WAN.  LAN only!
The changes to OS X over the last several versions were a definite speed bump but with the help of Neil Gee's youTube video and this forum pointing me to a permissions problem, Apache, mySql, and php are installed.  Browsing localhost, localhost/~myname and a couple of sites I set up using vhosts in ~myname/Sites from the laptop works.  Joy!    Browsing from other computers on the network nothing worked. Half a day googling the problem before I noticed something odd about the IPv4 Address for my Mac.... when I tried switching it to a static IP I got the message that the IP was already in use.
At this point I need to describe my setup... a MBP with Thunderbolt connection to an Apple Cinema display.  The ACD is connected via ethernet and the laptop was connected to the LAN via the Thunderbolt.  The network router is (unfortunately) an HGV-3800 whose radio is turned off.  Wireless in the household is accomplished by a Time Capsule in bridge mode.  Not my preferred setup but after killing off several good days, I capitulated to the recommended AT&T configuration.
A quick browse of devices on the router revealed that the IP being used by my MBP/ACD had an unknown device name while all the other devices in the house had their names... odd.  So I fired up the wireless on the MBP and took another look at the device list... the router listed this new connection with my correct device name.  Even better, when I browsed to http://myComputerName and http://myComputerName/~myname from another computer on the LAN the It Works! and My Site Works! came up perfectly.  However, the sites that i set up in vhosts stubbornly refuse to come up on the other devices.
My interpretation of what is happening with the ethernet connection to the ACD is that this connection is not identified as being to my laptop... it is to the ACD and somehow the laptop is borrowing it... surfing works and I can connect for file sharing to other computers on the LAN (though it is a bit clunky)... the borrowed connection is not up to the task of hosting on the LAN.  My question about this is whether there is a setting I can make which will correct this behaviour and allow the Thunderbolt connection to function as if the ethernet was directly connected to the laptop?
The other more important question is what is needed to make the sites I have in myComputer/~myName/Sites browseable from other devices on the LAN... these same sites that are coming up perfectly when I browse to mySite1.com from the laptop?
I am not really looking for advice to go get Mavericks Server... many different issues with that scenario.

Your router only has a limited about of features to make it "stealthy."
Here are a few things you can try...
    - Access the router's web-based administration @ http://192.168.0.1.

  • 27" Cinema Display - Black Screen

I have two of these 27" displays. One display works great. The other display has a black screen. It has power and will play music through the speaker and USB works. When I hold a flashlight up to the screen I can see what should be showing brightly and even read it (takes some work to read). When connected to the laptop it's recognized in the Display preferences etc.
This problem started by the screen going black from time to time. I could get it to come back on by unplugging etc. Then it went black and it won't come back.
I don't want to pay a bunch to repair. I'm very capable of doing the repair myself and with the tutorials online I can get it done. I've read numerous threads on this and several things are mentioned as the problem:
    Blacklight or driver need replaced
    Logic Board needs replaced
Power supply needs replaced (I don't see how it could be this since sound and stuff work on the display)
    PRAM or clear preferences etc
I believe it's probably the backlight or driver and/or the logic board. I just don't know how to diagnose which it is. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue. This a common issue with Apple's LED Cinema Displays since they first launched to replace their CCDL LCD's, it's not your system. I spent three years, using 2x 24" LED LCD"s that were problematic since day 1; power supplies and LCD panels replaced 2-3 for each. My AppleCare was due to run out in Oct., so I called AppleCare in May. Within 24 hours, they approved 2 new 27" LED Cinema Displays. Everything was working perfectly, until last night. One of the 27" displays shut down. As a communications and tech consultant (and former Apple Corp employee), I reset my Mac Pro's NVRAM and SMC, tried the display with my MacBook Air and Mac Mini, all three systems will not detect it. From my experience with Apple's horrible LED LCD's, it's definitely a power supply issue. I run my system off an APC SMART-UPS 1500 Sine Wave for servers, and my other display and 6-Core Mac Pro5,1 are fine.
Really disappointed in Apple's lagging quality. Before the LED LCD's I owned 2 23" CCFL LCD's that lasted me ~8 years before burnout began, which is fantastic. I don't know who produced the panels and internal components, but Apple had better get this together.
The thread I posted is below, hope this gains traction:
24" and new 27" LED Cinema Displays constantly malfunction, anyone having similar issues as below?

  • Disconnecting MacBookPro from Cinema Display

Here's a stupid question that appears to be too elementary to address in the documentation: When I want to disconnect my MacBookPro from the Cinema Display, do I simply remove the connections or do I have to shut the laptop down first?
Related stupid question: when I return with my laptop, can I simply plug in the Cinema connections, or does the laptop have to be powered down?
    Thanks.

You don't have to shut it down.

  • How to connect a 2009 Cinema Display with mini DisplayPort to modern card

    Hello:
I am ready to install a new NVidia Quadro K5000 for Mac in my not so old Mac Pro 4,1 (2009). I already installed Mountain Lion (10.8.3) as required. The problem is that the Mac Pro came with a Led Cinema Display which apparently only can be connected with a mini DisplayPort plug and the graphics card only have DVi and DP 1.2. I tried to find an adapter but the ones I have find are minidp male to DVI female and obviously I need a minidp female to DVI or DP female.
    I will appreciate any help.

  • How to connect my 20" Cinema Display with my new 27" TB-Display...

... running the latest OSX 10.9.1 on my MB Air 2013 8GB RAM/1.7 Intel Core i7?
I have the Apple DVI to MiniDisplayport adapter too for the Cinema Display.
Before I bought the display an apple technician at Hamburg Apple store told me I could plug the MiniDisplayport adapter into the thunderbolt port of the 27 TB-Display to run both displays, which does not work, which I could read just now in a support article here. But it is not mentioned how to make it work. Please let me know.
    Many thanks in advance

You need a drive with two Thunderbolt ports.  Plug the Thunderbolt display's Thunderbolt cable into the computer.  Connect one Thunderbolt port of the disk drive to the Thunderbolt port on the back of the Thunderbolt display.  Plug the Mini DisplayPort adapter into the other Thunderbolt port on the disk drive.

  • How to connect my Cinema Display as a second monitor

I just purchased a new 27-inch iMac, and I explained to the Apple folks that I had a 17-inch cinema display (silver clad model) that I wanted to connect, for a dual monitor set up. They told me just to get the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter, but I was surprised to realize that's not going to work.
Can anyone tell me how to do this, and what connector is actually needed? I have the big old white power brick that I bought to daisy chain my old 17 and 23 inch displays with my old configuration (Mac Pro).
Or can you not have a second monitor with an iMac?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Where and how can I buy a new AC adaptor for a 30" HD cinema display?

I bought large numbers of Apple products in Hong Kong but have since moved to a remote area of the Philippines where internation telephone calls are extremely difficult.
The AC adaptor of my 30" HD cinema display with aluminum case has been lost so I need to find out the price and order a new one.  However the Apple shop (Hong Kong) on-line has no way to ask the price or place an order for this item.  There is no on-line form no email addrees, nothing except Hong Kong phone numbers.
Can anyone please advise what I can do?  Please don't suggest going to the local service center.  I will never go back to our local service center after what they did last time.
    Thank you.
    Frank

    Thank You.
I have emailed them to ask if they will deliver to Hong Kong via USPS.
I may need a video card for a MacPro so I will order that from them also.
    Thanks again

  • HT1338 cinema Display 30" no longer recognized by my mac pro? What can I do? It worked fine until now.

Cinema display 30" no longer recognized by my mac pro. Until now it worked without problems, then after a crash it fails to recognize the display.
Now it runs in a far lower resolution. What can I do?
I tried to get da driver for it, but could not find any.

Try the other DVI port on the graphics card.  On early Mac Pros, only one port is the dual-link DVI needed for full resolution on the 30" display.  Make sure the display's USB cable is plugged into the computer.

  • Mid-2012 MBP with 27" Cinema Display SCREEN GOES BLACK WHEN USING USB PERIPHERALS IN DOCK

I haven't been able to find any straightforward answer as to why this is happening and it's becoming one of the most infuriating things in my life, impeding my workflow and costing me unmeasurable time in waiting, rebooting, screwing with cables, etc.
I use my MBP as a DAW for multitracking live audio events to ProTools through a digital console where I work. Here's my gear list that I use every day:
    Mid-2012 MBP - Yosemite, 8GB, i7 quad 2.5, mechanical hd
HengeDocks dock for my exact model machine - has set-screw jacks for CinemaDisplay power, Tbolt, FW800, USB, USB, SDcard, headphones, etc
    USB wired keyboard
Anker 1x4 USB3.0 hub - I have a TimeMachine 1TB drive, 3TB project backup drive, audio interface and MIDI I/O or PT iLok, depending what I'm working on
    Magic Mouse (BlueTooth)
    Here's what's happening:
SCENARIO 1 - I insert the CinemaDisplay (cD) power connector and TBolt plugs into the dock, tighten the set screws, close the lid of my MBP (already logged into Yosemite & linked with MagicMouse [mM]) and stick the MBP into the dock... everything comes up on the cD and I can go about my day. At this point, I can plug the USB hub into the back of the cD and the system sees the hub & all peripherals listed just fine.
SCENARIO 2 - Install cD powercon, TBolt connector, USB3 hub, USB keyboard into the dock, close the lid on MBP (again, logged in), insert into dock... cD comes up, looks great for about 15 seconds then goes completely blank. No response from key presses, mouse clicks, threats with a hammer, etc. Then, of course, I have to yank the MBP out of the dock, which hard-disconnects the external drives (backup and TimeMachine... good for them, right?) and causes the MBP to flake, thinking it's still in the dock, then not, then logging me out & requiring a password (not a big deal- I deal with copyrighted stuff, so passwords aren't the issue).
***EVEN IF I DO NOT PLUG THE USB3 HUB INTO THE HENGE DOCK, THE cD STILL GOES BLANK AFTER 15 SEC... IT ONLY SEEMS TO LIKE THE TBOLT AND POWER... NO OTHER PERIPHERALS (fw800, USB, etc)***
It seems like the MBP freaks out when the lid is closed and there are USB/FW peripherals plugged in while using a secondary TBolt display as the main output... seems stupid... if I need a closed-lid dock, the MBP shouldn't care what I have plugged in while the lid is closed. I had the same issues with Mountain Lion & Mavericks and now it's being repeated with Yosemite.
My goal in this exercise is simply to free up the USB jacks on the back of the cD for two reasons - #1) from time to time, I have extra things to plug in and I don't want some massive USB 1x8 hub on my desk... looks stupid; #2) the bottleneck created by plugging in the hub to the back of the cD (another hub via TBolt) almost triples the time required to back up/copy files. I move files from system drive to backup drive & back VERY often due to the nature of my job... speeding up this process would greatly improve my efficiency in the matter. Why would Henge create a dock with all the jacks on it to allow someone to plug into a cD that won't frickin work with said cD? Every other dock I've found makes the user stick the MBP on a slanted, goofy-looking stand and have the lid open or something dumb like that... what I have is the setup I need... just need the USB stuff to work while lid is closed and everything from powercon & cD to USB3 hubs will work without making the cD freak out.
    Any ideas out there?

Have now taken the 27" display into the repair shop and after 24 hrs got the phone call - "appears to be nothing wrong with it, will check again on Tuesday and let you know".
I can't seem to find anything on the net describing a similar problem. Everything is working fine right now with the Mac Pro connected to the older 20 inch Cinema Display. In fact, everything seems to be working about a second faster.
I was told by the local retailer that Apple no longer makes the 27 inch LED Cinema Display product and the new display, the "Thunderbolt" will not work with my 13 month old Mac Pro.
***??? In 20 years of owning Mac equipment, this is my first major "uh-oh".

  • Cinema Display 23 aluminum and Windows 7 64

I have an Apple Cinema Display on an Alienware Auora i7 980x running Windows 7 64. I have an nVidia Quadro 4000. In the nVidia Control panel the monitor shows, but not in device manager. One of my monitors shows up in Device Manager, but not in the nVidia control panel. I tried installing the WinACD version 0.4.6 but get the mesage that the "installation was interupted"
I have two Dell monitors that show up in Device Manager, but one is missing from the nVidia control panel. Although the Apple Cinema Display does show up in the nVidia Control Panel, it is not sown in Device Manager
I have contacted nVidia, but was hoping to find out if there is a driver for the Apple Cinema Display.
    Any ideas?

    Hello again,
After speaking to an Apple Genius, it seems the solution was to update the firmware for the Cinema Display. Since I have done this, the monitor appears to behave better.

  • Cinema display 24" burned and died

I wonder if anyone can give me any advice. I bought the £650 24" Apple Cinema Display 18 months ago from the Apple Store. On Friday I got a burning smell and it died.
Took it into the Apple store on Monday. They said it is out of warranty and that they could repair it for £500 - LCD fail.
Does anyone know if I have any consumer rights with this? Surely I should expect a £650 monitor to last longer than 18 months? At the time of purchase they didn't even offer me an extended apple care warranty.
Apple products usually have such long lives. I have an 8 year old ipod and 4 year old MBP and they are both still going strong!

Update: This may be useful for anyone else who has had the same issue.
Took my display to an independent but Apple Authorised repair centre where I had them run a diagnostic test on it. Turns out it was the logic board which had burnt out which they said was a manufacturing fault.
So the £500 repair quoted by the Genius Bar actually turned out to be £80.
I also had this repair done free of charge as I used my my consumer rights - the Sales of Goods Act 1979. This applies to the UK only and should cover you for up to 6 years.
It also states on the Apple warranty page that in the EU they cover items for 2 years if it's proved to be a manufacturing fault.
Thanks Apple, my cinema display is now back on my desk
Hope this post may help someone else in the same predicament!

  • Cinema Display Vertical Line

    Hi,
My Cinema Display (LCD, 21" I believe, came with Powermac G4 MDD 2003) has had a pink / red vertical line in it for quite some time now. It seems to sometimes change color, but is usually redish. It sits right in the middle of the screen, and goes all the way down from the top to the bottom. It is two pixels wide.
I have used another Cinema Display the same on this computer, and no lines, and tried this display on another Powermac, and I have lines.
Are there any warranties for this sort of issue? Any fixes?
    Thanks for your help,
    Jordan

Lines appearing on the monitor is a product fault with some of the Apple monitors. A quick search of the web will yield 100's of identical reports of the same problem.
I started with one line and now I have 3. You should expect the same. The fact that Apple have refused to address or even a acknowledge this product fault is a disgrace.
I'm sorry BSteely but your suggestion that we should simply replace our monitors because its out of warranty is ********. A product fault is a product fault pure and simple...Its not like Apple monitors are inexpensive, I have several other non-apple monitors and have never had this issue with them. It is the manufacturers responsibility to insure that a product leaves the assembly free of fault.
This is not an isolated problem but a problem in manufacture and Apple need to do something about it to restore goodwill, as I simply will not buy another apple monitor until they prove that this issue has been addressed.

  • Cinema display won't turn on

So my cinema display will not turn back on if I have it on, remove the cord from computer then try to put the cord back in. However if I put the usb back in and put my mouse in the cinema usb port the mouse still works. I restarted my computer and the display turned back on but I am afraid of ever taking the cord out again. My main computer is a MacBook Pro.

I have an early 2011 MBP and a 27 inch Cinema Display. Sounds like I am having the same issue. So far, no solution.
If I unplug the MiniDisplay port cord (All Original Apple cables) from the computer, when I try to replug in the MiniDisplay Port cable - the Cinema Display does not activate. I must try several unplug-replug ins to get the Display to light up. Usually takes about 10 attempted unpluggings and replug attempts for the display to come to life.
An SMC reset - has not effect.
I am now on my second Cinema Display - My first display was replaced at the Genius bar - they said it had a defective "logic board". The second display - operated normally for about 6 months, but over the past month has been exhibiting these same problems. I still have a bit of time before the one year anniversay for the Display so the warranty is still valid. Given that this is the same issue that happened with the first display - I guess I will need to buy the extended warranty. Don't like the idea of having to pay to have this problem fixed on a regular basis.
