BridgeVIEW engine not launching Lookout Protocol Driver

I am upgrading my Windows NT system to Windows 2000. I installed all the required software, including BridgeVIEW 2.1.1 and the Lookout Protocol Drivers. I use only Modbus to communicate with my PLC.
After finishing the software tuneup and having the system working fine under the "Administrator" account, I created an "operator" account (users group) and started the system and BV under this new user.
The surprise is that apparently the BridgeVIEW engine is not starting the Lookout Protocol Drivers. Actually, it looks as if BridgeVIEW does not want to use it at all, because even when I start the Lookout Protocol Drivers manually, BridgeVIEW can not see it, and does not use it to communicate with the PLC.
If I us
e the Server Explorer, I can communicate with the PLC even under the "operator" account.
I tried giving the "operator" account administrative rights, but that did not change a thing.

If that is the case I would check your DCOM settings.
Here are the basic steps for DCOM. The administrator has access by default by other users may not.
Server computer (NT/2000/XP):
Select Start>>Run and enter dcomcnfg.
Go to the Default Properties tab. Make sure Enable Distributed COM on this computer is checked. Use the following combinations of Authentication and Impersonation options depending on the level of security that you desire:
(None) + Anonymous (no security checking)
Connect + Identify (verification only on the initial connection)
Call + Identify (security check on every call during connection)
(For a better understanding of these different options, use the Help button located on the top right corner of the dcomcnfg window).
Click the Apply button to save these changes.
Go to the Default Security tab. You must make sure that the user who will log on to the client computer has all the necessary permissions. Click on Edit Default in each of the three permission options and grant the specific user the Allow access, Allow Launch and Full Control permissions.
Note 1: If you choose Everyone in each of the three default permissions, a minimal level of security is provided and the remote OPC server will be accessible to all users on your network.
Note 2: Because Default Security applies to all applications, the user gains control over all of them. If you want to grant the user permission for a specific application only, don't modify the Default Security. Instead, use application-level security discussed in the next steps.
Click the Apply button to save these changes.
In the above steps you have specified default settings for all applications. Now go to the Applications tab. Select the remote OPC server which you wish to launch. Click on the Properties button:
a) On the General tab select Default for authentication level, discussed in step 2 above (choose a different authentication level if you want a different authentication level specifically for this application).
b) On the Location tab check Run application on this computer.
c) On the Security tab check Use default permissions for all three permission options. Select custom permissions only if you want to set specific permission options for the particular application you have chosen (see Note 2 above).
d) On the Identity tab you can specify which users security context will be used to run the application. The interactive user refers to the user who has logged on to the server computer. The launching user refers to the user who has logged on to the client computer.
e) Click the Apply button to save these changes. Then click the OK button.
Click the OK button to close dcomcnfg.
Reboot your computer so that the new DCOM settings take effect.
Verify User Access Permissions. See below link Setting Proper Access for Remote OPC Server When Using National Instruments OPC Clients.
Also here something for Remote OPC and BridgeVEIW.

  • How can I solve the problem, which is shown as Modbus exception response 2 (illegal data address) in lookout protocol driver?

    I have a Dynisco UPR700 instrument that has a modbus communication protocol, I use the lookout protocol driver modbus to communicate with it, but the lookout protocol driver gave me the information about "modbus exception response 2 (illegal data address)", how can I solve this problem? where can I set the right data address? Thanks!

    Most likely you are trying to access a datamember address that is either not supported or non-existant on the UPR700.
    Double check the address that you are writing/reading and make sure that it is supported.

  • Bridgeview and Lookout Protocol Driver

    I am a Bridgeview 2.1.1 Full Dev. System user - was shipped an upgrade disk
    w/out the IA Server disk (4.0?). Now as I wait for it, I was trying to look
    for the driver set I had on my previous set of dsiks (Bridgeview 2.1 and
    IA Server 2.1) - and I cant find it, although I have installed it from my
    previous set before. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks.

    Sudhi,
    I assume finally you got the the National Instruments IA Server CD. If not, you might contact your N.I. sales representative.
    Actually, the IA Servers (aka IAK Servers based on the configuration through NI Server Explorer) is not available anymore and is an obolete NI product. However, if you want to communicate with PLC and other 3rd party hardware, I would recommend to get an OPC server from the manufacturer of the hardware. Another option would be to get the Lookout Protocol Drivers from National Instruments which allows you to communicate through the OPC interface to different PLCs (P/N: 777616-01, Industrial Automation Servers with OPC Interface, Win NT/98/95,CD). Those drivers are included in the Control Edtion Packages for LabVIEW. Check it out: ht
    tp://amp.ni.com/niwc/suite/control.jsp?node=10418
    National Instruments has as well hardware with FREE drivers and OPC servers to make the communication between LabVIEW and the hardware very easy. E.g. the widley known distributed Fieldpoint devices and the well-known DAQ/SCXI systems will come with OPC servers.
    Please check it out: www.ni.com/opc
    Hope this helps

  • Using Bridgeview with the IAK/IAS Server, I was able to read and write several registers using a string tag. In DSC using the Lookout Protocal Driver, I do not see a way to read/write string tags.

    In the tag configuration I can select for a string tag, but I do not see a way to set up the Lookout Protocal Driver for a string tag.

    That's right - The old IAK/IAS Servers from National Instruments were a tighten developement with BridgeVIEW together - so that they implement the string data type. Since NI recommends to use the LPD drivers instead of the IAK Servers there is no way to configure string tags in the Lookout protocol drivers. The LPDs or Lookout does not really handle arrays/strings at all - that's a limitation for the Lookout protocol drivers.

  • [[DataDirect][ODBC SQL Server Wire Protocol driver][Microsoft SQL Server]Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.]

    Hii ..
    need help on this ..
    This what I am doing ..
    I am using a DATAEXPORT function to export level0 data from my essbase 11.1.2.2 to Microsoft SQL 2008 tables.
    So what I did first I exported the level0 data to a flat file using DATAEXPORT and the created the SQL columns by the same  in that order only in my SQL table.
    When I run it fails with this error:
    ODBC Layer Error: [21S01] ==> [[DataDirect][ODBC SQL Server Wire Protocol driver][Microsoft SQL Server]Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.]

    Total Calc Elapsed Time for [test.csc] : [1.44] seconds
    =============================================================
    I did a simple test on my Sample.basic application then ..
    loaded the calc data to it and then used the below script to export to a flat file
    //ESS_LOCALE English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary
    SET DATAEXPORTOPTIONS
                    DataExportLevel "Level0";
                    DataExportOverwriteFile ON;
                    DataExportColFormat OFF;
                    DataExportDimHeader OFF;
    FIX(
                "Jan",
                "Sales",
                "Actual"
    /*DATAEXPORT "File" "," "/home/hypadmin/samtest.txt";*/
    DATAEXPORT "DSN" "Abhitest" "sample" "sa" "welcome1";
    ENDFIX
    out put as below:
    "Sales"
    "100-30","California"
    "Jan","Actual",145
    Now In sql I created only 3 columns with name Jan/Sales/Actual and when I run this script again with comments removed .. I get the same error as what I have got in my first test case with other application ..
    but when I create the columns with same name as what its in export
    Sales/100-30/Califirnia/Jan/Actual
    It created the new rows successfully ..
    So with this I think the error which I am getting with my other application might be because of the same column issue  .. but then I have created all the columns by looking at the export file only as I did in sample ..
    Any idea would be helpful ..
    Thanks

    I

    First make sure you add
    DataExportRelationalFile ON;
    to your set commands it is missing
    I alwats like to also add
    DataExportColHeader dimensionName;
    so I am sure what dimension is getting put into the columns.
    Then count the number of dimensions in your outline (exclude attribute dimensions). You need at least that many columns in your table  -1 + the number of  members you will be returning as columns in the export
    Taking your example Sample basic has 5 dimensions
    Measures
    Years
    Scenario
    Product
    Market
    Since you did not specify a dataexportcolheader it took the dense dimension Scenario as the columns. Your fix statement is limiting that to one member. Doing the math
    5 -1 + 1 = 5 columns in your table which is what you found works.  Suppose you fixed on bothe Actual and budget in scenario then you would need 6 columns 5 -1 +2

  • After hard drive crash, Pages app brought over, and upgrade to snow leopard installed, Pages would not launch.  Re-downloaded the 3.0.3 update and Pages launched, but will not open any documents or start new document.

    After a hard-drive crash, Pages application was brought over from the old hard drive, and upgraded to snow leopard.  However, Pages would not launch.  I do not have the disks and the computer was given to me by my son with iWork 08 installed, so I do not have the ability to re-install using Purchases.  I re-installed the update 3.0.3, which I already had, but thought it worth a try.  That enabled Pages to launch, but it will not open a new or old document.  I can see in preview the document, but it will not open.  Any suggestions besides repurchasing Pages.  I've just put out a lot of money for a new hard drive and retrieval of apps and docs from the old hard drive and would like not to have to put more money in it.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    You can not simply drag over Pages, particularly if it was perhaps damaged in a crash.
    As it was only Pages '08 it may be time to upgrade to Pages '09 from the App Store. It is not that expensive and will allow you to install it on any Mac sharing the same Apple I.D. and protect you from a repeat of this problem.
    There are free alternatives to Pages if you are hard strapped, it depends on what you are using Pages for, it is not the only option by far.

  • Lookout 6.1 build 27 OPCClient does not launch the Opto 22 OPC SEVER

    In the same computer, with the same Lookout 6.1 a few weeks ago, I had communication between Opto 22 OPC Server and Lookout using the OPCClient in Lookout. Settings in OPCClient were for a really fast scanning rate (50 milliseconds) and de deadband was set to zero in order to see all the inputs changes with the best resolution. These I/O units are Opto PAC EB2 brains, and the OPC Server belongs to the suite of PAC 8.0 (I tried also 8.1) of Opto 22. The I/O Configuration and the OPC configuration was done with the same OPTO22 software version.This was a test done in order to see if I can get 20 samples per second from all the I/O's. It did go well, even a little faster than required. It was informed to my bosses, then I had the 'go' for the project I'm working on. That was the main concern of everyone here; the fast communication between Lookout an the Hardware.
    The computer runs windows XP SP2, has two ethernet ports; one with dynamic IP address on motherboard (for the company network), and a PCI ethernet cad with a fixed IP address in the range of the IP addresses of the Opto 22 brains dedicated to talk to these I/O units.
    I called first to the tech support of OPTO 22. They shown me how to double check and to launch manually the OPC Server, there is a tester software for it. The OPC Server was launched and I saw it in the task manager under processes tab.
    When I create the object in Lookout, it does not see the server, neither launches the server. I can see the data members of the OPCClient, but I can not see the variables or tags from the server.
    Again, it did work a few weeks before in the same PC, with the same Lookout and the same Opto 22 as a test. Now I need to add the OPCClient to my application and make the corresponding connections, but I can't.
    This is becoming a kind of hurry, time is running and the application can not get to work.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    When the OPC Client object is created, I can select the OPTO22OPCSever.2 in the dropdown list of servers. It is there, and the object can be configured normally. I must see in the object explorer (expanding the OPCClient object) the tags configured in OPTO 22 Server,but they are not there. The Client object only shows its data members. Once Lookout is open with the OPCClient, the task manager/services does not show Opto22OPCSever.exe running, that tells me that Lookout's client does not launch the server and that's why it does not show the tags configured in the server.
    I have uninstalled Opto 22 software and re-installed, I called Opto 22 tech support and they shown me a way to launch manually the server, even how to monitor some of the values of its tags. I saw the Opto22OPCServer.exe in the processes list of the task manager, I read values of some tags with the OPC tester, To me, the server side is working fine.
    Then, I installed Lookout .During this process there was an error 1922 and a message saying that files mssgl.mdf, mssgl.mdl, and mssgl.ldl are not found, These files must be located in C:\ Program Files\ National Instruments\Lookout 6.1\ Database. During the first installation of Lookout 6.1, I followed the instructions in the README file, where some specific commands must be typed in the run windows and executed to create the database properly. It was done, no errors were displayed during the first installation.
    The thing is that this OPCClient/OPCServer DID WORK before. For some reason it does not work NOW.
    this computer didn't have any previous version of Lookout installed, there is no possible old database messing here.
    Again; the computer runs windows XP SP2, it has a dual core processor.

  • Mac Version of PS6 Will Not Launch if Scratch Disk is Not Set to Boot Drive

    Mac OS 10.8.2. PS6 will not launch unless the boot drive is set as the number one option for the scratch disk. Even if I choose another internal drive and set it as the number one option for PS6 it will not launch. Is there any kind of work around for this? My boot drive is only a 120GB SSD so I don't want to use it as the main scratch disk.

    Curt good idea but no go. This is a fresh install of PSCS6. I ran the Apple Disk Utility three times and Disk Warrior on the boot drive. If I leave the Scratch Disk set to the boot drive no issues, only if I change the order of the scratch disk or if I do not have the boot drive selected as a possible option for the scratch disk.
    Where is the 'ignor ownership' option found? I did a 'Get Info' and I don't see it in that window.

  • TCP / IP Protocol Driver - not installed (using Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) Service Pack 1

    I am using a ThinkPad T520 laptop.  Lenovo Solutions Center keeps referring me (with a yellow exclamation mark) to the Device Manager and alerting me to a "non-critical" error. The message is "TCP / IP Protocol Driver - not installed".
    I have found numerous pieces of advice for Windows XP and Vista - but very little for Windows 7. I have however tried the Microsoft "Fix it" solution and it had no effect.
    I am still able to connect to the internet via Ethernet cable and wifi. It is however worrying that the warning keeps being raised.
    Does anyone know how I can fix it?

    Hi Tripplec.
    Thanks for the reply. I am away from home at present without my ThinkPad, so will try it at the weekend. I am an experienced computer user but this is a brand new machine and I have never had a laptop that produced error messages without providing any suggested fixes. It seems that Lenovo is not suitable for ordinary home users, but only for computer engineers. Sadly that is not me... so before I plunge in, can I just check some details?
    1. You suggest removing the offending network adapters in device manager. Which are the offending adapters that cause a TCP/IP protocol driver error?  I am nervous of removing the wrong things and making it worse!
    2. You also suggest that I go to Network Connections via Control panel, properties of adapter, Install and select the desired Protocol(s) and install them.  Is that an alternative fix  to 1 above - or an essential follow-on after removing the offending adapters?  (Last week I searched the machine and the Lenovo support page of drivers - and never found a TCP/IP protocol driver. If you know where one can be found, I would prefer to instal a new driver, rather than delete other devices and hope that the machine reinstalls them later!).
    Much obliged for your assistance.

    Hello. I purchased a used ibook running system 9.2 and used my firewire drive from my original ibook ( OS 10.3.9) as a startup disk. It mounted the drive and operated but Safari and Mail were un able to make an internet connection. Mail needed a Force Quit to be able to Shutdown. The firewire drive is the only drive used with the original ibook and contains the OS and applications. Since then several but not all applications will not launch on my original ibook. Safari crashes then launches. Mail launches but will not work. Incidentally, I do not have any s OS 9 files on my original ibook. I have repaired permissions. Hi John, welcome to Apple Discussions
    One possible fix, clear your System and Kernel Caches on the firewire drive. You can do this using a Utility such as Onyx - Panther version. Restart.
    If that doesn't help, since your problem is OS X related, the Mac OS X v10.3 & earlier forum would be a better place to post your problem.

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers

  • Installed Mountain lion on my Mac book pro. Now My IRONKEY flash drive is not launching.

    Installed Mountain lion on my Mac book pro late 2011. After that my IRONKEY flash drive is not launching. Before it was launching OK.The flash drive has updated software.

    You have some other problem with your boot drive that has corrupted data backed up to the TimeMacine drive.
    My advice is to boot into each operating system and manually backup just your Users files each to separate regular external drives (no Timemachine or backup software) and disconnect.
    Make a note of any serial numbers, emails, address book contacts, export bookmarks etc. that isn't typically in your users folders data.
    You might be able to Winclone 3 the Windows as a whole thing as it's appearing not to have issues but it's your MacintoshHD partition that is so that will have to be rebuilt from scratch.
    Most commonly used backup methods
    If your OS X parititon doesn't boot, you can use this to recover files.
    Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
    Without any further detail about your machine I can't advise specifically what to do, but it involves using Disk Utility to Zero Erase (move slider one spot to the right or in 10.6 using Security Option) the ENTIRE boot drive and reformatting, then installing OSX fresh and then setting up BootCamp again.
    If you wish to switch your boot drive for something better, this is a good time to do this.
    Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
    If your machine is capable of Internet Recovery, then use that, then upgrade.
    If your machine came with 10.6 or earlier, then use the 10.6 install disks and work up from there.

  • HighPoint RocketRaid 6GB/s eSATA not launching my RAID 0 drive

    Hi there,
    I have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) with 8 cores, 10GB RAM. In 2011, I bought the HighPoint RocketRaid 6GB/s eSATA for Mac RAID card (model number 644MLF I believe). It has 4 eSATA ports. The RAID 0 was initialized with four 1TB external hard drives (WD Caviar Black in Startech eSATA / USB enclosures). I'm running Lion operating system (whatever the latest 10.7.x).
    Unfortunately the RAID management is software based and I was alwasy suspecious about that because Disk Utility doesn't do much with setting things up or manipulating, restoring, etc.
    Anyway,  I was running smoothly. One time I had a fail to launch after the computer accidentally went to sleep mode. I restarted it and after a few attempts it worked.
    I wasn't happy with this kind of odd behaviour but I thought I would never let it sleep again. But about a month ago it happened again and whatever I did, I couldn't make it to launch my RAID drive. It makes that sharp continuous beep sound and the system becomes very unstable unless I turn off the drives or even take the RocketRAID card out of the system.
    The problem is I had it for RAID 0 since I was working on whole bunch of uncompressed full HD footage and I needed to maximize the smooth image. I thought eventually I buy a 4 TB drive as a backup connect it to my Time Machine and it backs up the RAID 0 that way but 4TB drives are (were) not out when I did the setup and I was too optimistic running my assets without backup in this time period.
    Anyway, long story short, I'm now stuck in a situation that I don't want to completely re-initialize my drives because most probably I will loose my content (anyone that knows this please comment). I went to Apple store, they tested the drives and said they are fine, and they can't do anything with the RocketRaid card since it is a third party hardware!!! So someone tells them why do you sell it then!!??
    I tried to get a hold of HighPoint tech support but they don't answer any tech calls. I filled out a web based support form. I doubt they can give me direction by emails back and forth.
    Anyone had that experience before? Did you manage solving the launch problem? How?
    Thanks for your help.

    buy some wd black 2TB drives for soare and backup, and even 3TB greens.
    so you are using Apple DU software RAID and initialized with Lion is fine.
    the drive enclosure is _______ ?
    $140 http://www.softraid.com is a good product and feature set, can also take-over an Apple array. demo and manual, and email support at softraid.com they do respond in spades, and makes it worth buying if it sounds good.
    HPT support is iffy, it has new 10.7.5 driver? or do you need to dual boot and get out your 10.6.8 system clone? and SL has no issues but 10.7.x on 2008/3, 1 doesin terms of power mgmt. you could try another lion clean install to test but some had to go back to 10.6.8.

    System Information will not recognize installed Hard Drive (Boot Camp) when in use by VMWare.

    Then I launch VMWare, which uses the Boot Camp drive. The once again run the same command from the Terminal Command and I get this.

    The Boot Camp Drive is no longer listed.
    I assume this is due to the the fact that the drive is "In Use" however is seems odd since the Mac drive is also in use and it appears without problem. I assume there is no "fix" for this, I was just wondering if someone may have an explaination why?
    Also, I do realize that I can query the various interface types like system_profiler SPSerialATADataType to get all the properly installed phycial drives, but then I would have to query all possible interface types, isolate only devices containing Volumes, then consoldate the information to just the information that I need. I was hoping for a cleaner query.

    Thank you for your response.
    VMWare may be the cause, but the actual issue I am having is with Apple's System Information. I anticipated resistance from VMWare if I went to them with a question about an Apple software issue (even though VMWare software is part of the equation). I was trying to avoid the inevitable finger pointing game. I thought I would try with Apple Forums first since the issues presents itself within the Apple Software. However, you are correct that VMWare may have an explanation on why Fusion might be interfering with System Information. I will check with them next.
    To answer your question. Yes, In most cases I do use Fusion to run Windows side-by-side with the Mac OS. However, that is not always the case. There are a few reasons why I have it setup using a Dual Boot configuration.
    One, in some cases, due to the intense programs I occasionally run (graphic applications), I prefer to simply boot straight into Windows via Boot Camp so I may allocate all hardware resources to Windows. Additionally, some graphic applications like to have direct access to hardware and the extra layer of the VM environment can cause problems when an application is trying to directly access specific hardware like a graphics card.
    Second, I often use either side, both Mac and PC, for testing. There is an advantage to not having to rely on the Mac OS to run Windows. If, for whatever reason, my Mac becomes unstable due to testing, I can still jump right into Windows to do work if necessary.
    Third, I love the Mac OS, but I work in a PC centric organization. If there is a "problem" with my system, it is too easy for other system admins to say, "it's because it's a Mac". Having the definitive separation of the OS's allows me to prove that the Mac OS is not a factor.
