Bring All audio clips on a track to the same audio  level?

Is there any way to do this? Example, lets say I have all my dialogue on audio track one and I want it all falling at about the 12 mark on the audio meter. I don't suppose there is something that will bring it all to this level automatically?

Normalizing is a bit of a chainsaw on audio, if you dig into it and look at the files. Compression works much cleaner.
What I would suggest is playing through the timeline, each time a new clip comes up use the Control- [> and Control- +/- keyboard shortcuts to get your audio all in the same ballpark level. Then nest that sequence and put a compressor on the audio to bring lows up and highs down to a closer level.
If you add a compressor to each individual clip without ballparking them first, you're still not going to be happy.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 running on? Can we assume that this audio plays back OK
on the same computer when you are using a computer player independent of Premiere Elements?
What are the properties of these clips that worked before but do not know with regard to sound
For now, I will assume that you are working on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
Have you checked the Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware ASIO settings? Do you have any 3rd party audio devices incorporated in your computer environment?
Please delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if that does not work, then the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. The Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit path is
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    12.0
and, in the 12.0 Folder, is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Make sure that you are working with Folder Option "Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives" active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Do you have installation files or installation disc with the purchased serial number in case we need to resort to uninstall/reinstall?

  • Here is How to Edit clips of the same loop, which were recorded on seperate tracks, in the same way

Whiteout conditions here in the northeast, it's a Blizzard!
Hopefully this helps someone because I was banging my head against the wall trying to figure this out.
This is for people who want to precisely loop (or edit in other ways) multiple clips in the exact same way, but that are on seperate tracks playing concurrently in Multi-track view, so for instance looping 3 different tracks recorded simultaneously from a drum machine and keeping the same exact placement of each track relative to each other when trying to get the loop right (or any other type of edit)
It's all about how you switch between Edit view and Multi-track view, and you CAN'T group your clips before going to edit view, although this is counter-intuitive.
The basic jist is simple, "Selections" in the timeline, transfer from Multi-Track to Edit View and Back to Multi-Track...but you most follow a certain procedure, here is the procedure:
WARNING: THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF THE SELECTION IS OF ONE CLIP PER TRACK!!!  YOU CANNOT MAKE A TIMELINE SELECTION OF MULTIPLE CLIPS ON A TRACK AND HAVE THAT TIMELINE SELECTION TRANSFER TO EDIT VIEW, AS FAR AS I KNOW.
    In Multi-Track view:
    1) Switch the timeline to "Samples"
    2) Make a "Selection"  of the part you want to Loop and zoom all the way in to the start and end points to get the loop as precise as possible, if it's not perfect don't worry just get it as good as possible in Multi-track View, then in Edit View you can find the Zero-Crossing points.
    3) Make sure the clips you want to edit are NOT GROUPED AT THIS POINT
Here is the part that got me - AFTER making your Selection in Multi-Track view - you have to go to Edit view in a certain way, so that you don't de-select your selection:
WARNING: Do NOT Double-Click the clip/file you want to Edit!!!  Do not double left-click anywhere in MultiTrack View or you will de-select your selection.
note: You have to edit the files one at a time in Edit View, but if you go there using the correct procedure, you can transfer your selection you made in Multi-Track view.
    4) Decide which clip is the hardest to one to loop (usually it's an instrument sample rather then a drum loop but you never know)
    5) Instead of double-clicking a clip to Edit it, HOLD CONTROL AND LEFT CLICK THE CLIP YOU WANT TO EDIT ONE TIME, this will select the clip without de-selecting your TIMELINE SELECTION.
    6) Now that the clip you want to edit is selected, You want to go to Edit View USING ONE ROUTE ONLY --> Simply click "Edit View"
^Make sure you Timeline selection is still in place and hasn't moved do to user error (e.g. accidentally clicking the timeline or shift-clicking and moving the selection by accident <--- which I do by accident when attempting to control+click)
    7) If you followed the instructions exactly, You are now in Edit View with the selected clip along with the timeline selection you selected in Multi-Track view, showing it's exact timeline location at the bottom which is relative to the Multi-Track view
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO DE-SELECT THE TIMELINE SELECTION, AS THAT WILL DE-SELECT THE TIMELINE SELECTION IN BOTH VIEWS.
    8) If you are having trouble looping without artifacts, To find the zero crossing points either go to edit > zero crossings or use shift+h or j for left edge, shift+K or L for right edge of the loop.
    9) if you must adjust it manually to fine tune then make sure you shift click the file as not to de-select the entire timeline selection.
    10) Once you have a perfect loop, zoom all the way in to the start and end points, and take note of exactly where the start and end points of the loop are located within the timeline.
    11) Go back to Multi-track view
12  To trim the clips to to the exact timeline selection: Hold control+left_click each clip that needs adjusting one-time, then right click > group clips
    13) BEING CAREFUL NOT TO DESELECT YOUR TIMELINE SELECTION, select your grouped clips by HOLDING CONTROL and clicking on any of the clips
    14) Point to the start or end one of the clips, when you see the icon showing arrows going either way, right click and drag your clips to roughly match up with the timeline selection, then zoom in further and adjust the clip start and end points to match up exactly with the timeline selection start and endpoints.
WARNING: IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY CLICK WHEN THE DOUBLE ARROW ICON IS NOT SHOWING, YOU WILL DE-SELECT YOUR TIMELINE SELECTION AND YOU WILL HAVE TO START THIS ENTIRE PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN.
    15) Verify that your loop is looping correctly, in some tricky instances you may have to find different zero crossing points on the initial file you edited in edit view by repeating the above procedure, but this is unusual, although it just happened to me.
    16) If everything went correctly, now all your clips on seperate tracks are looped in the exact same way, if you want to destructively edit each file down to it's loop size, you can keep your timeline selection and control+click a file then click "Edit" (the one in the toolbar of course), one by one destructively editing each file.
    17) to extend the loop either set as a loop under "loop properties" and then just drag each file the number of times you want it to loop, or do it my way and right click the clip > duplicate and set the number of times to duplicate and whether to have them back to back or spaced, this is the quickest method for me.
Addendum: IF you have 2 files selected and click "Edit" to go to Edit view, it will give you the file of the clip you selected first, not 2nd. You must then go back to MT view, de-select the clip you selected first, then de-select the clip you want to edit, then RE-select the clip you want to edit.
-Also, you don't HAVE to group the files as I did in step 12, you can drag the edges of the clips to the timeline selection one by one, I just find it easier to group them after you have set the loop on one of the files in Edit View.
-Remember, you can't select the files one by one and have the timeline selection transfer to Edit View IF you group the files prior to going into Edit View.
GOT ALL THAT?  I sure as hell don't know if I do ...
All this could be easily avoided if Audition would simply let you edit multiple files simultaneously in Edit View relative to their position on the Multi-Track timeline.
I'd also like to know why when you do a full zoom in, neither the selection or the clips will snap to the ruler points, only to just before and after the ruler points on the timeline.
And also (and this may be my fault) I don't understand why when the tempo of my session is 89.8bpm, the timeline under the tracks says "90bpm" why does it round it off..?
Isn't that inexact and couldn't that present problems with syncing loops?  idk I could be wrong I can't get my head around these issues because of lack of knowledge on the subject, if someone could shed some light that would be great.

correction needs to be made to step #14, I typed:
    14) Point to the start or end one of the clips, when you see the icon showing arrows going either way, right click and drag your clips to roughly match up with the timeline selection, then zoom in further and adjust the clip start and end points to match up exactly with the timeline selection start and endpoints.
Here is the correction, THE CORRECTED PARTS ARE CAPITALIZED:
    14) Point to the start or end OF one of the clips, when you see the icon showing arrows going either way, LEFT-CLICK and drag your clips to roughly match up with the timeline selection, then zoom in further and adjust the clip start and end points to match up exactly with the timeline selection's start and end points.
    Another Correction:

  • How can I record an Audio Instrument (saxophone) and listen to a reference track at the same time?

How can I record an Audio Instrument, and listen to a reference track at the same time?

Are you using an external audio controller or the line-in and headphone jacks on the side of your computer? You shouldn't have an issue using headphones when you're recording through the line-in but you may want to make sure you have monitoring on and it's going to the right place.
If you're using an external audio controller, try making an aggregate device combining the controller and the "built-in output" into the same device. Go to Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup, click the "+" sign at the bottom left to make a new device and check the "use" boxes to the left of the physical devices you want to use as part of that aggregate device. That is how I use the computer's speakers or headphones to monitor my input as opposed to only being able to use the output on my audio controller.
Now that I see some of the questions on the side of this page I realize that the 13" MBPs seem to have only one combined input/output jack... That is an incredibly stupid feature. What on Earth could possibly justify that design decision? I suppose if that's the problem you're having you'll have to buy some sort of splitter (if they even make them) or get an external audio controller like an Apogee Duet or something along those lines. I would be furious if they combined those two jacks on all of the MBPs.

I'm trying to mix a recording in the latest 2014 version of Garageband, but when I set all the tracks in the latest Garageband to the same volume levels and save, when I open the file again they've changed back to a previous setting? Does anyone know why it changes even after saving the file?

I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

Hi, I have this exact same problem. I haven't been using an iRig, just a cheap USB-jack cable. I managed to do this with the first cable I bought, but since it broke I've been unable to find a replacement that allows me to hear the drums while recording. DId you manage to get over this issue? If so I would really like to know how. Thanks and best wishes.

  • Help with recording 2 tracks at the same time

Basically I recently purchased an Audio Interface (BEHRINGER XENYX Q802 USB) and I'm having trouble recording multiple tracks at the same time while using it.
When I set up 2 MONO tracks in my DAW (one using input 1, the other using input 2) all that happens is that I get a recording of one mic over both tracks in my DAW.
This is probably a beginner post and I have looked it up on YouTube etc. but it just doesn't work for me... Maybe it has something to do with my Interface, but any help will be much appreciated.

    Hi Pancenter,
Unfortunately I don't have the manual as I purchased it from a friend who failed to provide me with the Manual.
But thank you for answering as this was what I needed to do.
    Many thanks
    Olie.

  • Why cant I see BOTH video tracks at the same time?

I read all the manuals,I swear.
I make film collage and want to do multiple layer exposures of different clips.
So far I just have two video tracks-
Why cant I see BOTH video tracks at the same time,I mean each track will create another layer,or exposure that will both play back viewable simultaneously right ?Or would that be considered "layering"?
Does this have anything to do with the source vs. destination thing ?

FCE plays back video tracks in a "top-down" manner: that is what's on track 3 obscures what's on track 2 which obscures what's on track 1. You can control scale, position and opacity of each clip on each track so that you can get the layering you seem to be after.

  • Loading Tracks with the Same Name

Hi all, brand new iPod owner here! I have some bootleg concerts that I want to load up. I've done two shows successfully, one from a CDR and one direct from my PC's hard drive. All the tracks for these two shows have different names.
Now..... what if I want to load other concerts that have some of the same songs, i.e. the tracks have the same name as those already in my library? How will I pick out the right "version" to add to the new playlist? Is there a way to put the tracks in their own folder in iTunes so they don't get mixed up with the ones already in there?
I appreciate any information or advice you can give me! Rock on!

  • I made a movie in iMovie then deleted the clips in it. I have reimported the clips in an event with the same name as previously and some clips in the movie are still saying source slip missing even though they are there. What can I do?

I made a movie in iMovie then deleted the clips in it. I have reimported the clips in an event with the same name as previously and some clips in the movie are still saying source slip missing even though they are there. Some clips are fine in the movie, but most are just black and when I hover over them, it says source clip missing. How to I fix this? Thank You

I did that too, then I did a migration assistant to a new Mac and ALL of my movies have Source Clip Missing now, even though the original clips are still in the iPhoto Videos.  I can stand to re edit one or two projects, but not ALL.

Thanks. I know how to select multiple tracks in the mixer, did that and put on group clutch,
    Hi
    Wrong..
To assign tracks to a group, click in the dark gray box just above the automation (Read/Write/Off etc) on a channel strip, and select the group number you wish to use. The first tim eyou assign a group, the Group Setting swindow will appear automatically, thereafter you need to click on the group area and choose 'Open Group Settings'.
Make sure that you have turned off Group Clutch (this disables all Groups)

  • Multiple Inst tracks recorded @ the same time

I AM TRYIN TO RECORD TWO INST TRACKS AT THE SAME TIME USING TWO SEPERATE MIDI DEVICES. IS THIS POSSIBLE, AND IF SO HOW IS IT DONE ?
    THANKYOU.

    Ok, let's try step-by-step.
I'm assuming you already have in the arrange window two instrument tracks for Inst1 and Inst2 such that you can play/record each instrument individually.
    Now proceed as follows
    1. Open the environment and choose the Audio layer. From the New menu choose the Channel Splitter. It appears on the window. Make sure that its Icon box is checked in the parameter box. Then draw cables from output1 to Inst1 and output2 to Inst2.
    2. Open the arrange window. Create a new track. Click and hold the track name, from the popup menu select (Channel Splitter). Voila, now we have the channel splitter track!
    3. Make sure the channel splitter track is selected.
    4. Make sure your midi devices are sending on midi channels 1 and 2.
Now you should be able to play and record both devices at the same time. The recorded notes will first appear on the channel splitter track. After recording select the region and apply 'Demix by Event Channel'. This will create two new tracks containing the recorded notes of each instrument. For playback drag both regions to the original instrument tracks.
Good luck! Feel free to ask if something doesn't work as expected.

  • Preview multiple video tracks at the same time.

This may have already been covered at some point on here but I was unable to find it. Please forgive me if it has.
I'm editing a 2 camera presentation for a company. I've laid both cameras in the sequence. Camera 1 is on V1 and Cam 2 on V2. They are in sync and ready to go. My questions is, "Can I preview or monitor both tracks at the same time as if I was switching this live?" I want to be able to preview cam 1 at the same time cam 2 is playing on the canvas so I know when to cut V2 and switch to V1. Is this possible to do in FCP? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
    Thanks!
    Mike

It's not your only option, though you could do that if you wish.
You can still finish the edit with multiclip...(provided your clips are still in sync)
With your playhead at your last cut point, option-click on V1 to activate it's track selector as the only one active, then hit the 'f' key (this will load clip one in the viewer at that point in time). Set an inpoint on clip 1, the do the same for V2 (clip 2)
Next select both clips in the browser and hit control-click / Make Multiclip. Choose 'Synchronize using: In Points', click ok.
Now dbl-click the new multiclip in the browser, make V3 active and hit F-10 (overwrites the multiclip onto V3)Next, dbl-click the V3 multiclip in the timeline, go to the top/center button of the viewer and set the Sync to 'Open'. Then, single-click in an open space in the timeline, place your playhead at the head of the new V3 multiclip and hit the space bar. You should see both clips rolling in sync in the viewer.
Check the manual for Multiclip button bars and any additional settings like activating 'Multiclip Playback'.
    K
PS - you might want to duplicate your working timeline to test this procedure, then you can always delete the old clips and drop your V3 multiclip on to V1 to finish the edit.

  • Two Tracks for the same Runtime System?

    Hello,
can you please tell me if it is allowed to connect two tracks to the same runtime systems?
We have already a track connected to our systems. Now we have created a new track to deliver different content to those systems. We wanted to connect the new track to the same runtime systems. Our basis team told me that a where-used message came up that told them "The following runtime systems are already used elsewhere in the CMS domain".
Can you tell us if we will get problems because of this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Br,
      Michael

    Hello again,
ok now, thats something completely different CRM modification is always special.
To be honest i cannot tell for sure what will happen. As far as i know the default deploy strategy of NWDI is "deploy any version" which means NWDI will order SDM to just deploy not regarding any SDM Version (you are on a 7.0x System right?)
So it should be possible if everything else, excelt those 2 DCs is the same things should work. But if not the last deplyoed version of the shared DCS will be active. Which might lead to problems then.
As far as you described, the setup is as the CRM modification guides mentioned.
My first thought is that you are not forced to use CUSTCRMPRJ as SC name for the projects as far as I know. OS maybe the leanest thing would be to just use CUSTCRMPRJ_light (.o)) for the second track.
Hmmm not sure if this is a good idea or thought to the end. I don't have the CRM modifications guide at hand at the moment. But I guess there was a part where something was mentioned similar to this.
After all I have to say:Sorry. I can't give you solid, reliable tip/advice for this case. Maybe my thought will help you.
Or maybe someone else knows better.
    Have a good time

should all memory slots on my imac have the same amount of memory

For your model, that would mean to match them horizontally; in newer iMacs with vertical RAM installation, they should be matched: slot 1 + 3, and slots 2 + 4 (which, oddly enough, will result in the same picture if your check the RAM in system info).
