Broken iphone 4, sync contacts?

hi all,
just joined, so first of all, "HELLO" to everyone.
my iphone 4 fell out of its case and landed face down, smashing the screen.
the damage is really bad, and i can't use the phone any longer. (although, it works perfectly internally, i can still see all the calls, texts, messages, emails, alerts from my apps, all arriving, i just cant access them)
unfortunately, the phone is locked with a pass code, so when i plug it into the pc (itunes) it wont let me sync or back up the phone, it tells me to unlock it (and of course, the screen is not working so i can't get into it.
i'm using my old iphone 3 til i get the insurance sorted, and would like to be able to transfer my contacts, etc, from my iphone 4 (the broken one) to my iphone 3 (the old one im using.
i tried to sync the contacts by following the instructions on this page but it didnt work, i still just had the old contact list.
does anyone know how i can get my contacts transfered?
thanks in advance
jan

hi diesel,
thanks for your reply.
thats the puzzling thing, i do regularly plug both phones into itunes via the pc, and they sync straight away. (i had it set to auto sync til today) so i dont understand why the methd i trid didnt work..
do you know if the phone can be 'factory re-set' while it is locked? or would that need to be done via the screen?
thanks

  • IPhone not syncing Contacts to Address Book

I noticed that my iPhone (both original iPhone and iPhone 3G) was not syncing contacts with Address Book. I tried to Reset Sync History in iSync, and when I have tried to replace the contacts on iPhone under the Advanced options, I lose all my contacts on the iPhone!
The only way to get some contacts back is restoring from backup, but unfortunately as iTunes performs a backup of the iPhone on sync, these backups also have no contacts! I have an old backup that fortunately has not been overwritten but the contact list is a bit out of date.
Address Book on the Mac seems to be fine and this is backed up.
It would appear that iTunes has somehow lost its "connection" to Address Book, which is why when I chose to replace the Contacts on the iPhone with the information on the computer I lost them all!
iCal still seems to sync fine with Calendar.
Can I re-link Address Book with iTunes?

    Jason L wrote:
    Hey lim_my,
Are contacts syncing with MobileMe or any other applications?
    I don't have MobileMe.
Now you mention it, Address Book did not appear to even update if I updated a contact in Mail.
Can you sync contacts in another User account? to create another user account goto System Preferences> Accounts> click the lock to make changes> click the + button to add another user account.
Yes I can! I only tried to sync Contacts, leaving all other options i.e Calendars Bookmarks Ringtones Music Videos Applications untouched, and now I have some test Contacts on the iPhone.
You can try Resetting the SyncServices folder, Just follow the steps in this article to stop the service and then delete the SyncServices folder in your user library.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
I had tried this before, within iSync, which did not work. I then tried the command in Terminal as per the above link, then went and deleted the /user/Library/ Sync Services folder. Still no joy.
So it looks as though I have a broken Address Book rather than iTunes. Should I post this in the OS X Leopard section of Discussions?

  • IPhone cannot sync contacts

Does anyone know how to resolve this error? I keep getting an error message stating that iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because an error occurred while pushing data from the phone.

I have Windows XP and have been having this same problem. To reset the sync history with Window just open i-Tunes; then select "edit" - "preferences." In this window select the "syncing" tab and there you can reset the sync history.
I did this and was able to sync my contacts and calender with Outlook 2003 without any problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Iphone exchange sync contacts

When I try to sync my Contacts then my Iphone fineshes (circle don't rotate in status bar) at 118 or 243 contacts without an error.
In my Outlook (Exchange account) I have 388 contacts and 93 proposed contacts so 481 all exchange contacts.
Is there a limit for exchange sync contacts?
I tested it with an Itunes (10.2.2) connection and gprs connection the same result...
    Any idea?
    E-mail sync is ok.
    regards

I read that Google Contacts exchange does not support this second mobile field, I will have to use a fax mobile, or something like that.
    Cheers

  • Can I use a different Apple ID for Find My IPhone and syncing contacts, calendars, etc?

I would like to use one Apple ID to sync all of my contacts and calendars, but I need to place the Find My iPhone functionality in a different Apple ID account. Is this possible? Ideally Find My iPhone would be the ONLY feature used by that account, not app sharing, store purchases or anything else.

To better describe what I am needing:
    1. - iPhone 1
    2. - iPhone 2
    A. - Apple ID #1
    B. - Apple ID #2
On 1. I need A for purchases and iCloud and B for Find My iPhone.
On 2. I need A for purchases and B for iCloud and Find My iPhone.
In addition, will iCloud store text messages?

  • Why won't my iPhone 4S sync contacts and calendars with iTunes on my Mac?

I've checked settings on both and they seem fine. Music and photos sync fine but not calendars and contacts. Any ideas?

    Hello RMC1,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPhone. If the issue is limited to Contact and Calendars not syncing, even with the correct settings, when connecting your iPhone to iTunes via USB, you may want to try resetting Sync Services (which is limited to this specific function in Yosemite) and re-enabling your sync-related settings afterwards, as outlined in the following article:
OS X: Resetting Sync Services - Apple Support
    Sincerely,
    - Brenden

  • Iphone not syncing contacts/calendar to iCloud

I have all the updated software and installed icloud on all of my devices.  I have turned on all options under icloud settings on my iphone in terms of syncing.
I have been able to do a back up of my iphone onto the icloud under storage and backup on my iphone.
If I add a contact or calendar item on my mac, it goes to the icloud and my iphone. No problem there.
My problem is, if I add a contact or calendar item to my iphone, it does not put it on the icloud or on my mac.  Please help.
    Thanks

On your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the boxes next to Contacts and Calendars, reselect those boxes then restart your Mac.
On the iPhone, tap Settings > iCloud then switch Contacts and Calendars off then back on then reset the device.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Hopefully everything will sync.

  • New iPhone 5 syncs contacts to Microsoft Exchange over the air?

Just got a new iPhone 5. It's not syncing my contacts. I've tried everything I can find here. However, there's this one little difference. In iTunes, I'm being told that my contacts are being synced with Microsoft Exchange over the air. ***? I don't have Microsoft anything on my comptuer!
This is a new iPhone 5. I've imported all my contacts from my previous phone which has never been synced with anything. (Syncing didn't exist when I bought the phone.) I've switched all of the contanct information on, and ... nothing. I've tried syncing via iTunes. I've tried sycning via iCloud.
Any new additions I make will sync via icloud (or iTunes), but none of the old contact information will sync to my comptuer. I know it has something to do with the "syncing with Micorsoft Exchange" message, but I have no idea how or why it defaulted to that setting. How do I change it? How do I get my contacts to sync from my phone to my computer?
    Thanks.

    randers4,
Thank you for your reply. Strangely, the offending email account was the account set up at the store (not Apple store) for an iTunes account. I have no idea why they would have turned on the exchange sync in the fisrt place.
I now know how to turn off the exchange sync. However, I'm not given the option of keeping the contacts on my iPhone if I switch it off. It will delete all of my contacts. Is there a way to avoid this? I'm sure I read something in the discussions here, can you point me back in the right direction? The same thing is going to happen wiith my emails. Unfortunately, I have dozens of emails already...
    Again, thanks for your help.

  • How Can I sync contacts FROM my iPhone TO my AOL E-mail?

How can I sync contacts FROM my iPhone TO my AOL E-mail? In other words, I want to keep all of my iPhone contact information intact and make AOL "mirror" it (and not wipe it out when I sync thru iTunes).

The iPhone supports syncing contacts with Outlook 2003 or 2007, or with Windows Contacts with Windows, and with the Address Book or with the Entourage address book on a Mac.
If you aren't currently using one of the supported applications on your computer for contact info - the supported address book application on your computer is empty, before syncing contacts enter one contact in the supported application on your computer. Make this contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data with the supported application on your computer, which you want to select.
After this, you can export the contacts from the supported application on your computer that is supported for import by your AOL online address book - if AOL includes such an option.

  • Syncing contacts from iPhone to Outlook and vice versa

I have the new iPhone and I have set up an account in Outlook and have it sync from my MSN Hotmail account. Everything syncs and looks good with the exception of my contacts. I need to know how to put a contact into my phone and have it sync into my Outlook and vice versa. Currently if I put a contract in my phone it does not go to Outlook and if I put a contact in Outlook it does not go to my iPhone.
Do I have to add a new contact to the MSN hotmail account and then it will sync to my Outlook and then my iPhone? How do I get the contacts to go from my iPhone to my Outlook and then to my Hotmail?
    Same issue with Calendars.
    Thanks!

The iPhone supports syncing contacts and calendar events with Outlook 2003 or 2007, which is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. Syncing contacts and calendar events direct with Outlook 2003 or 2007 via the iTunes sync process syncs direct with the Outlook address book and calendar - with what is available locally on your computer in the Outlook address book and calendar.

  • Syncing contacts with iPhone misses one number

Syncing iTunes 11.4 (18) under MacOS 10.8.6 on my MBPro, with my iPhone 5c using iOS 8.1.2 leaves one (at least) phone number unsynced.
A new contact phoned me, so I put his number into Contacts on my iPhone.  Later, he emailed me his physical address, so I put it into Address Book.
Then, I plugged in my iPhone and synced.  His physical address got moved to contacts, but his phone number did not get moved to Address Book.
I have synced several times again.  I get no anomalies during the sync process, but his phone number remains only on my iPhone, and not in Address Book.
    I tried Quitting Address Book,
Then launching iSync -> Preferences -> Reset Sync History -> ("Are you sure...?) -> Reset Sync History -> (button got dimmed).
Then iSync -> Sync Devices -> (no messages.) -> Quit.
Then Launching Address Book. -- no help.
    Then Quitting Address Book,
    Quitting iTunes,
Launching iTunes -> iPhone -> sync -- finish.
Then launch Address Book -- No help.
Still no phone number for him in Address book although there is a phone number for him in Contacts.
iTunes -> Gil's iPhone -> Info -> Sync Contacts is checked, All contacts is selected.
iPhone -> Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> iCloud -> Contacts = Off
    Any ideas?
One oddity is that this iPhone 5c is my third iPhone to be attached to this particular computer's iTunes.  All three of them have been named "Gil's iPhone".  Maybe the identical name for different iPhones is confusing iTunes?  How could I research/change that?
    --Gil

OK.  I found it.  Cockpit error.
On my iPhone, Phone -> Recents -> "i"circle -> shows what looks like a Contacts record with address and phone number.
However, Contacts -> theName -> shows a real Contacts record with address, but no phone number.
I didn't realize I had to transfer the phone number to the Contacts data base.  (It still seems odd. I created the contact record from the phone number somehow.  Maybe something in that process didn't work properly.)
BTW,... How do you transfer a phone number to the Contacts data base?  (Drag across, copy, switch to Contacts, Edit, Paste works.  Is that it?)
I then added email address to Address Book and Synced again -- worked as expected.  Phone number was copied to Address Book and email address was copied to Contacts.  All is well.
    A little confused, is all.

  • Using OS X server to sync contacts?

    Hi,
Now that iPhones are no longer able to sync contacts locally with a desktop (i.e., the most basic smartphone functionality ever developed...grumble...), I'm looking for a workaround that doesn't involve uploading private data to someone else's servers. Please forgive the naive question, but is there a way to do this with OS X server? In other words, does OS X server allow you to create a secure alternative to iCloud -- at least for the purposes of synchronizing contacts? (Relatedly, can this also be done for, e.g., calendars and notes?)
    I'm imagining something like:
         - Install OS X server on one mac and create a user account
         - Add that account to the list of accounts on the iphone and on a desktop mac
         - Synchronize the phone with the server, sychronize the desktop with the server, viola!
    Thank you,
    Mike

Thanks, but I'm not sure I understand your answer. Does that mean that:
OS X server accounts can be added to iphones just like .mac accounts and
iPhones can sync contacts with an OS X server account?
If so, does this require a static IP address? If I'm behind a NAT router is it possible to just sync when the phone is too (or is there a risk of it trying to sync when on other networks and connecting to "their" 10.0.1.1, etc.)?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Very upset with 4s iPhone before the last two updates iPhone would sync contact in my new car. Now it will not. I used my friends Galaxy Note and it will sync. I will trade as soon as I can get an upgrade. That's not until October. I'm in the car all day and new my phone. Hate this iPhone
