Browser: Print to PDF does not retain hyperlinks

Hi,
I was wondering if someone can give me some guidance.
I have several html pages that contain numerous hyperlinks throughout the page
On each page there is a javascript print button (ie. onclick="window.print();returnfalse..........)
Whenever a user chooses the option from the print dialog box to print the page to Adobe PDF,  the output (pdf) does not retain the hyperlinks.
Is there a way, feature, or product that will allow external users to print to pdf and still have the hyperlinks work?

Printing to PDF never includes interactive elements - it is what it says, a digital copy of a printed page. No links on a sheet of paper = no links on a PDF printout.
To retain interactive content you must save the page as a PDF, for example using the Acrobat plugin for IE or Firefox.

  • Printing from Word 2008 to PDF does not preserve hyperlinks

    Hi,
I have discovered that when I print a Word 2008 (ver. 12.2.4) document to PDF format using Mac OS X version 10.6.2, some of the hyperlinks are lost.
Links where the hyperlink address is visible in the document are preserved, while all others are lost. Interestingly, the PDF shows the text with the hyperlink as if it still has a hyperlink, but the link does not function. I have posted an illustration:
    - original Word document (zipped): http://people.trentu.ca/~rloney/files/hyperlinktestword-to-PDF.zip
    - converted PDF document: http://people.trentu.ca/~rloney/files/hyperlinktestword-to-PDF.pdf
I've tested this with both .doc and .docx formats and there is no effect, nor does it matter whether I print as PDF using Mac OS X, or convert the Word file to PDF using Adobe Acrobat ver. 9.3. I have run the same test with Apple's TextEdit and all links are preserved, so this appears to be specific to Word on the Mac.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Any work around?
I will try to find a place I can report this to Microsoft as a bug.
    Thank you,
    Rob

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard v 8 works, but print-to-PDF does not

I've been trying to migrate my main computer usage from an XP desktop to a Windows 7 laptop. I've had Acrobat Standard v 8 on both computers for years but have rarely used the laptop. (I mostly used the laptop as a dumb terminal to reach through the internet to my desktop.) Now I'm determined to make the laptop into my daily WORKING computer.
I see that Acrobat Standard works on the laptop (opens files, deletes pages, etc.) but I cannot print anything to PDF. When I try to print (from Notepad, Word, or anything) the "Adobe PDF" printer shows as my default printer. But nothing happens. It doesn't ask for a filename and the printer window (?) shows error on printing.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat Standard 8 in January 2013 when it had stopped working altogether (opening a PDF would flash open then close/crash) which was probably caused by "a friend" installing an unlicensed (or wrongly licensed) version of Microsoft Office 2010. I uninstalled all of that mush and put a new version of Office on (2013, licensed). I don't recall if the print-to-PDF has worked since; but I suspect not.
Does anyone know how to fix it?
I'm afraid to uninstall and reinstall the whole Acrobat again. Someone once told me that you can only re-activate your license so many times and then one day it won't reactivate. And since my version is so old and has been reinstalled after virus cleanups (reformatting system disks), I don't know if Tech Support will fix that sort of activation problem. That last thing I want to do is use new software, or have to go to a non-Adobe PDF editor when I already have software paid for. And yes, I have the original Acrobat Standard v 8 CDs.

    1. I don't care about the button in Word; just trying to get a PRINT-TO-PDF function going.
    2. The CD installed 8.0.0 even though I have 8.1.4 on my other computer (the XP desktop I'm trying to make obsolete). I will try to find upgrade downloads somewhere.
    3. I tried to use the original CD and do a "Repair" option (not remove nor install). It went through the motions and would come up with an error. So I googled and found the article titled "Error "The file AdobePDF.dll is needed" | CS3 | 64-bit Windows" (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-file-adobepdf-dll-needed.html) and applied the directions for Windows 7 64-bit version (which my laptop is), but the fix didn't work.
Still researching, and #2 above looks like the best next course of action.

  • Exporting a PDF for print, the PDF does not show a shadow effect

I have a drop shadow effect on an EPS object and some type that does not appear when I export the file as a PDF for print. The settings I have it set to are: Adobe PDF Preset: "High Quality Print", Interactive Elements: "Include Appearance", and Color Conversion: "No Color Conversion".
If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it!

    Will,
Yes, I set my transparency blending space to CMYK. It didn't work.
I don't have a particular reason I am using an EPS over AI other than that's the type of file this object (logo) was saved as. I can get an AI. Is there any particular reason you recommend not using an EPS?

  • File Printed to PDF does not match file displayed on Print Screen in OD

I have Oracle Discoverer reports (scheduled) that I open and print to PDF files monthly. My files process and display on my computer screen without any errors. However, when I click FILE-PRINT, I immediately receive the error message "Not all rows have been retrieved. Data may be inaccurate." Most times the PDF files print correctly. However, sometimes not all of my columns are calculated when my pdf file opens. Changing settings under options (Query Governor) does not appear to make any difference. Any help would be appreciated. Sandy

    Hi Sandy,
this is not an error as such, when u run the report in oracle discoverer desktop, it will fetch only first set of values when you scroll down, it will fetch next set of values and so on, if u go to the setup in the discoverer desktop in the edit menu, you can actually set number of records to be retrieved, If u set that according to ur requirement, you will get all the records and it will be properly printed.

  • Edited PDF Does Not Retain Fill Data on iPhone

When I input data in the fill boxes on a form I created with Acrobat which has been sent to my iPhone, the text that was added in the fill forms does not stay on the document after emailing it to myself and opening it in my email preview. The data, however, will show up when I open it on my computer(mac) email preview.

You're experiencing a limitation of the built-in iOS PDF viewer which is used by apps like Mail and DropBox. It doesn't properly display filled in form data or annotations.
You MUST view the resulting file in Adobe Reader or Acrobat on Mac or PC, or on Adobe Reader for iOS or Android to see the data correctly.

  • Word to PDF does not keep hyperlinks in Table of Contents ?

I have used my free trial of Adobe CreatePDF before purchasing the annual subscription.
I was surprised to see that the PDF document did not keep the clickable hyperlinks that Word uses in a Table of Contents. As this is the exact same behaviour as the "Save as PDF ..." option that I have natively available on my computer I don't see the point of paying a subscription to the service. Or am I doing something wrong?
    MAC OS X Lion (10.7.2)
    Office for Mac 2011
150-page .doc document with Section, Chapter, and various Heading Styles defined
    WORD automatically-built Table of Contents
In the WORD document, the page numbers in the Table of Contents are hyperlinks to the concerned page
Convert WORD to PDF using "Save as PDF ..." option in the "Print..." dialog box
====> Table of Contents hyperlinks are not preserved (the page numbers are no longer clickable)
Convert WORD to PDF using Adobe CreatePDF
====> Table of Contents hyperlinks are not preserved (the page numbers are no longer clickable)
Am I missing something or is this the way it is intended (not) to work?
P.S.: I know that, on the MAC, I can use Preview to manipulate the PDF document I obtain through "Print..." > "Save as PDF...". One of the things I can do is to select the page numbers in the Table of Contents and add a 'link' to each. But this is a VERY cumbersome process. Actually, I have to create a link for each page number, one at a time, on a table of contents that may consist of in excess of 50 entries. As I have a collection of 50-odd documents and am on a schedule of distributing new versions every two weeks or so, this procedure is completely unusable. Hence my search for a (paid) service that converts my documents while preserving the hyperlinks of the Word-created Table of Contents. Either I am doing something wrong or such service does simply not exist ...

    Good day fgrexsg,
You are correct in that the workflow you described will not produce links in the resulting PDF files.  The steps that Lori outlined work great if you're working on Office for Windows in terms of getting the links to work when converting using the CreatePDF service.
In order to make this work on the Mac, you'll have to take a few extra steps within Office first.
You're going to have to repeat this step for each item in your TOC.  While this will be time-consuming for a 150-page document, it will work.
Within your TOC, highlight the entire entry listing (e.g. Topic 1.........3)
Once the entire line is highlighted, choose Insert > Hyperlink
Click 'Document' to select a location within the current document.
Under the 'Anchor' option, either type in the Heading/Sub-heading (must be exact) of the page you want the hyperlink to attach to or click 'Locate' and find the proper Heading/Sub-heading within the structure.
As I said, this will probably be time-consuming on such a large document, but it will work.
Unfortunately Office for Mac just simply isn't as full-featured as its Windows counterpart.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
    Kind regards,
    David

  • Printing to PS does not retain previous file location

I have just upgraded from CS3.
My workflow when preparing files for the printer is to print to postscript file, then use distiller to convert the file to pdf for sending.
CS3 retained the file location, so that each time I performed the same action, it went straight to the previous folder where the postscript file (for the current AI file) was created.
Now, in CS6, it takes me back to 'My Computer' (equivalent in Windows 7) every time... which is really, really frustrating to have to re-navigate back to the same server path every time I output the file. (Which I do a lot as I do final checks and proofing within acrobat, so need to perform this process frequently).
    I have Win7 64Bit.

I have been using Windows 7 for a year or so with CS3. This issue only arose with the upgrade to CS6..
Ok, just tested the process again in CS3 - it is session specific. I.e. when I go Print -> save to Postscript file, it presents the last file location used.
So, if I am running the process multiple times, it is awlays in that last folder used.
If I shut down Illustrator and open another file, it still presents that last folder used, but again, once I have set to the new working folder, it presents that location on subsequent processes.
However, with CS6, every time, even within the same session, it always defaults to the 'my computer' folder.

    - Multiple restarts performed

    - Occurs for multiple PDF's from various sources
      -> Online source

  • Blank error message with ? appears and PDF does not open in Browser (IE11) when clicking link to open pdf. PC - IE11 Acrobat 9.0

Blank error message with ? appears and PDF does not open in Browser (IE11) when clicking link to open pdf. PC - IE11 Acrobat 9.0
Cannot access in browser PDF files unless blank box is closed and then website address is clicked on again in browser address bar and page reloaded.
Uninstalled Acrobat 9, reinstalled, still same problem.
    Help please!

Yes I can it only happens in the browser..
I reinstalled Windows on my machine and started over a couple of weeks ago.
When my desktop started up I didn’t have Acrobat installed and clicked on a pdf file and the open with xxx dialogue box came open.
I chose a different program as Acrobat wasn’t installed yet so it associated pdf files with another program.
Later Installed Acrobat and couldn’t associate the pdf file with acrobat so I went into Folder Options and manually associated PDF files with Acrobat.
Ever since then I get the error when something is downloaded and opened in the browser.
Works fine everywhere else and when I cancel the blank error, highlight the web address and press enter to reload it works 90% of the time.
    Not sure what to do..

  • Adobe PDF Does Not Appear In printer List

My computer runs Windows XP. Acrobat Standard 6 is installed. "Adobe pdf" does not show in the list of printers. I have installed all available updates, but it still does not show in printer list. I have done a google search on this and have come up with nothing. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Try to re-install it, after deleting all folders from previous instalation. If still not works, lets see, are you the adm of your network? If not, may this is a network permission while trying to install a new printer. It can be different versions of acrobats installed at same computer too.

  • TOC does not include hyperlinks in export to PDF

I created an eBooklet in Pages, but when I export it to PDF, the TOC does not include hyperlinks to the pages. There aren't any signs of the TOC including links in the original Pages document, either.

The iWork '09 DVD can be had at Amazon. You will need to apply the Apple IWork 9.3 updater to bring the applications to their last revision, and compatibility with Mavericks and Yosemite. The help menu in Pages ’09 v4.3 has a link to the that specific PDF user guide. The Number '09 guide is there too. The Keynote  '09 PDF User Guide is here.
Pages v5 documents are not directly backwards compatible with Pages '09. You will need to export the content as Pages '09. Since Pages v5.5.1 is lacking nearly 100+ features that were in Pages '09, you must take care with opening Pages '09 documents in Pages v5. It will filter out content that it does not support (e.g. linked text boxes).
Any double-click on a Pages document with both applications installed, will default to opening in Pages v5.5.1. Deliberate effort is required to open Pages '09 documents, either by the Pages '09 file chooser, or a two-finger tap (on your Air) to bring up the secondary menu that has Open with > Pages (4.3) on it.

  • MS Outlook 2010 Add in Create pdf - does not create pdf of draft emails- Adobe Acrobat Pro X

In MS Outlook 2010 Add in Create pdf- does not create pdf of draft emails- this maybe the case, but just wanted to make sure this is normal for the program- though I guess one can print as an Adobe pdf but it does not maintain the hyperlinks of email addresses etc. the functionality is compromised in a print vs create a pdf.

Here's a workaround by the team:
Right click on the message from Explorer list view or folder view and chose the option to convert to PDF.
