Browsers and applet

Hi,
I wrote a small applet that open a udp socket and listen to it, when some packet it's received a button it's enabled. I use netscape 6.2.3 and java VM 1.3.1_02 on Linux 2.4.18, but the buttom have a strange behaviour, in some pc's with the same configuration the button it's enabled but no action seem be taken except for a ugly beep. The java console of the browser show me no error, it seem locked, and his bottons have the same behaviour of my applet botton. I've also try with the new version of netscape 7.1 and java VM but the problem still remain.
Can someone help me?
Thanks a lot
p.s.
if someone 'd test my code I can send it

Hi Will,
I'll send you my code to your e-mail address on yahoo.

  • JRE versions and Browsers and Applets

Is there a way to assign a particular JRE version to a browser session through JavaScript or VBScript programatically so that I can run applets from different sources which need different JREs?
Basically I will have 2 links/buttons which will call two separate javascript methods to open two different browser windows to run two different applets running under different JREs
However when I start IE each 'session' of IE is assigned to one JRE, any way to overcome this?
    TIA,
    Raj

    Martin thanks for your inputs
I am sourcing html pages from multiple sites and the html/applet tag is generated by those websites.
They do have the applet tag pointing to proper class-id of the java plugin.
However, the problem is with IE one family(session) of browsers are attached to one version of JRE plugin.
Here 'session' means: you open a browser and from within that browser you do go from a link or javascript etc. to another browser they are in same 'session'
I am working on dynamically setting JRE plugin version to different browsers.
Not sure I made it clear or confusing : )
    Thanks

  • Browsers and Applets

This is really a two part question that I just can't seem to find an answer too.
The first part should be simple, what is the correct, browser wide way to put an applet on the page? My deitel book says applet and it does work on IE/Firefox but w3schools says it's depricated in HTML 4.01. Since embed isn't a real tag, I went and looked up object. Not only could I not make it work but it seemed like it wanted the version to be hard coded, never gonna work like that. So, how are you guys doing it?
Second question, how do you stop your browser from caching the applet? I turned off 'enable chaching' in the plug-in, set IE to refresh every visted to the page (theres a joke, buggy ass... [rant]), used the meta no cache tags and set expire to -1. For all this it would only work if I cleared temp internet files, same for Firefox. Is it even possible to turn this off?
    Thanks for your help.
Btw, this is my first post here, so, "Hello".

Yeah, just try to stay healthly up on the standards; my sites still about 20 years away from the strict.dtd, which I wouldn't use on an intra net I installed the browsers on.
Applet will probably go away about the same time center does, though M$ does seem to have a lot (not all, embed still isn't there) pull in the w3c and probably wouldn't care if we had to markup our applets in leet with the correct timestamp...
    <?php echo printf("<4ppl3+ c0d3='toolbar.class' curr3n++1m3='%s'>4ppl3+</>", mktime("r", date())); ?>

Are local Java programs only command line runnable? How can I create exe like programs? I already know about how Java doesn't use compilation, but bytecode interpretation.
Can applets run locally or only browserly.

Are local Java programs only command line runnable?Several programs set up batch files to invoke it with java.
How can I create exe like programs? You can make an executable jar, and the java interpreter is invoked normally.
I already know about how Java doesn't use compilationIt does use compilation. Java code compiles to java bytecode. This is run on the java interpreter. It doesn't compile down to native machine code, but it IS compiled.
Can applets run locally or only browserly. Applets can run locally in using applet runner.

  • I can not print from Firefox, but can from all other browsers and applications (such as MS Word, notepad, etc.). I get a print error on the printing monitor like it's a spooling problem.

This is a recent development but I can not print anything from within Firefox. The print functions open normally, it is going to the correct printer which works..I can print from other browsers and applications. It acts like it is spooling and then a print error occurs and it won't print. I closed and reopened Firefox, opened it in safe mode, cleaned out history/cache/cookies, and rebooted twice. Nothing makes any difference. Also tried printing from the print preview which had the same result. I can print from all other browsers and applications without a problem so it must be within Firefox.

    1
    Close all iWork applications
    2
Uninstall Keynote; this must be done with an application remover tool to delete the installation properly. Appcleaner is known to work correctly for this purpose, it is free and can be downloaded from here: Appcleaner Download
    3
    empty the trash
    4
shutdown the Mac and restart. After the start up chime, hold down the shift key until the apple logo appears
let the Mac complete the start up procedure completely, it will take longer than usual as the hard drive is being repaired
    5
Reinstall Keynote by logging into the Mac App Store using download / install

  • Help required to understand interactive SWF appearance on various browsers and pc's

I have created an interactive newsletter for global distribution.
My work machine uses a resolution of 1280 x 1024
However, my company uses different browsers and laptops globally, as we have approx 150,000 employees.
The Indesign pages are 1000 x 800 px
When I sent out a few test files, I received various issues from different people.
Some using IE6, IE7 and IE8 complained that although their resolutions were 1280 x 800, or 1280 x 1024, the  top and bottom of the swf files were either cut off or the file was presented with text too small to read.
Using Firefox, some of the people also said that the file presented with the top and bottom cut off.
My own PC using either IE8 or Firefox @ 1280 x 1024 presents the file perfectly fine.
Now, with IE 8 and firefox, by either using the CTRL + middle mouse wheel, or CTRL and + or - the SWF file resized correctly by zooming in and out.
For IE6 the user would need to right click and choose Zoom in or Zoom out.
Most users are, and I am not being patronising here, not computer savvy, and would not generally know how to perform this option. They simply use the computers to do their job and panic if a java updated is presented.
I need to avoid this if I am to pursue the interactive SWF file approach.
Has anyone else experienced this and can you offer a solution that, no matter the resolution ot Browser used the SWF file will present correctly all the time?
    thanks

The usual approach is to assume the smallest pixel dimension for a desktop is 1024x768, so you set the flash stage at around 900x650. If you are coding in Actionscript there is the option to listen for a browser resize and rearrange the objects on the stage to fit the space, but that's not an option saving out of ID. The best approach is to setup your ID page to 900x650,  and make sure the text is readable at 100% view.

  • JDev3.0's JSP and Applet works on NT but doesn't work on Win98, why?

JDeveloper3.0 works fine on WindowNT machine when I run JSP files and Applet, but at home the JDeveloper3.0 cannot trigger the browser to display the result on my Windows98 machine when I run the JSP files or Applet. Why? How can I make it works for me at home. Other tools, such as J++6.0 and JBuilder work with Applet on the same machine. Who can help me?

    James,
The JDeveloper 3.0 design time environment is not supported on Windows98. Some functions might work under Win98 but they are not supported.
    Sorry!

  • How to fit all browsers and monitor sizes?

    Hi there.
Wondering if there is a code that I can paste on a snippet, that would allows
the size of the site (margins and background image) to fit to all sizes of different browsers/ different monitors?
    Thanks!

I don't mean to have something that could fit from a laptop to a mobile phone.
Just a site with a background image that would keep its margins fixed when seen through different browsers
and monitors of mainstream computer, let's say all browsers and mac laptops.

  • Regarding communication between JSF and applet.

    Hi all,
I have to send a array of int value from JSF to the applet method and vice versa,
so how can I do that?
Is there any straight forward way is there?
Or I need to use javascript in between applet and JSF for communicating.
If this is case can give some links so that I can go through it.
What I need is, I have jsf table(grid) when I select a row from table, for the selected row I have to display selected row ID in applet and vice versa.
Any suggestion or links will be appreciated, thanks in advance.
    Thanks
    daya

thanks and sorry for late reply, let me go through the link,
i have tried with JavaScript, i got stuck, i need to call a JavaScript method for JSF component event listener. I searched in Google but no help regarding same.
Actually what I need is, I have JSF Component i.e. GridView(Table) and applet in a page. And for each row selection in GridView(table) I need to call a javascript method (with column value), and vice versa.
Can you give suggestion or any link so that can proceed further.
and i am able to communicate between applet which are included in the page
    Thanks

Both Snood and Ultimate Solitaire won't load because of 'Not Enough Memory' yet I have 2gigs. Other applications work fine with sound. ie iTunes, GarageBand, etc are ok. I've deleted Snood Prefs with no effect. Any ideas?

When I mouseover links, a gray dialog box appears but it is always blank. I have checked on other browsers and the same link brings up dialog.
    I am running Firefox RC.

    figured it out:
    - power off mac and turn back on while holding down Command + R (dont do it on an external keyboard just to be safe)
    - choose the re-install Lion option (I'm sure there is another way to re-install Lion, this is just the way I did it, not saying its the best or only method)
    - DO NOT INSTALL MACBOOK (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0 - THIS SCREWS ADOBE UP!

  • Change the home button back to the left side!!!!! I've changed browsers and would like to change back and upgrade to FF 6.0 if you can get that fixed!

And why can't I send an email from the old browser? lame!

You can open the open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" and drag the home button to where you want it to appear.
