BUG: Database Modeling in JDeveloper 11.1.2.1.0
Hello,
I'm defining a foreign key constraint in a database diagram in JDeveloper 11.1.2.1.0 with several columns, and within the Edit Constraint dialog in the Associations list the local columns names does not match the referenced columns names in the grid, although the associations are well defined internally. The same occurs in the Foreign Keys section of the Edit Table dialog, so I would like to know if there is any service pack or something that fixes this,
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
Shay is correct that what you are trying to do requires JDeveloper 12c.

JDeveloper and database modelling
Hi,
I am using the (very nice) visual db modeller in JDeveloper.
Is there any way to change the definitiions of the tables so they can be created at different types? eg IOT, hash cluster, etc? I cannot even see how i would specify which tablespaces to use.
Thanks
RakeshI quickly checked and it seems the editing of storage attributes in off line tables is not supported until a future release.

Hope this helps

Database development with jdeveloper
Hi
Thank you for reading my post
is it possible to use Jdeveloper to develop Mysql databases ?
how i use its diagram <> database capabilities to forward a diagram to a mysql database ?
thanksHi,
For information on how connect MySQl to JDev, look in the Help for 'Working with Non-Oracle Databases' under 'Using Application Development Tools | Database Tools'.
And for Modeling Database Development with JDeveloper, you can find this tutorial useful :

How associating an XMLSchema to an XMLType Field with the database model ?
How can I precise the XMLSchema to an XMLType Field with the database model ?
I know how to do it in a SQL Syntax :
CREATE TABLE xwarehouses (
warehouse_id NUMBER,
warehouse_spec XMLTYPE)
XMLTYPE warehouse_spec STORE AS OBJECT RELATIONAL
XMLSCHEMA "http://www.oracle.com/xwarehouses.xsd"
ELEMENT "Warehouse";
, but we have decided to generate the script with the Jdeveloper database modeler tools, and we don't how to precise this with using this tools ?
Anyone could help me ?I'm not sure that it answers your question but under the tools menu there is an option called register schema with XDB.

Why won't my database model open?
Suddenly (i've been working on it a few weeks now) my database model refuses to open in JDeveloper. No error messages or anything. Dragging the model is ignored as is right clicking and choosing Open....
Any ideas?
RakeshHi,
Is it possible that you could send me your project so that I can investigate? If so my email address is [email protected] Can you rename the .zip file to .zap so that it gets through the mail system.
Also can you confirm which version of JDeveloper you are using?
Was the diagram created in this release or migrated from a previous release?
What was the last sort of thing you were doing before you were unable to reopen the diagram?

UML Modeling in JDeveloper 10g
Hi,
I'm looking the UML Modeling facilities in JDeveloper 10g, and I would be interested in know the people's experience with UML in JDev 10g. How are changes in design phase propagated to other diagrams and classes (ADF UML diagrams and classes, Java diagrams and classes, Database Model, etc)? There is anybody here with experience with this JDev facilities?
Thanks in advanced.Repost

Insert XML file into Relational database model without using XMLTYPE tables
Dear all,
How can I store a known complex XML file into an existing relational database WITHOUT using xmltypes in the database ?
I read the article on DBMS_XMLSTORE. DBMS_XMLSTORE indeed partially bridges the gap between XML and RDBMS to a certain extent, namely for simply structured XML (canonical structure) and simple tables.
However, when the XML structure will become arbitrary and rapidly evolving, surely there must be a way to map XML to a relational model more flexibly.
We work in a java/Oracle10 environment that receives very large XML documents from an independent data management source. These files comply with an XML schema. That is all we know. Still, all these data must be inserted/updated daily in an existing relational model. Quite an assignment isn't it ?
The database does and will not contain XMLTYPES, only plain RDBMS tables.
Are you aware of a framework/product or tool to do what DBMS_XMLSTORE does but with any format of XML file ? If not, I am doomed.
Constraints : Input via XML files defined by third party
Storage : relational database model with hundreds of tables and thousands of existing queries that can not be touched. The model must not be altered.
Target : get this XML into the database on a daily basis via an automated process.
Cheers.
Luc.Luc,
your Doomed !
If you would try something like DBMS_XMLSTORE, you probably would be into serious performance problems in your case, very fast, and it would be very difficult to manage.
If you would use a little bit of XMLType stuff, you would be able to shred the data into the relational model very fast and controlable. Take it from me, I am one of those old geezers like Mr. Tom Kyte way beyond 40 years (still joking). No seriously. I started out as a classical PL/SQL, Forms Guy that switched after two years to become a "DBA 1.0" and Mr Codd and Mr Date were for years my biggest hero's. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Tom Kyte for all his efforts for bringing the concepts manual into the development world. Just to name some off the names that influenced me. But you will have to work with UNSTRUCTURED data (as Mr Date would call it). 80% of the data out there exists off it. Stuff like XMLTABLE and XML VIEWs bridge the gap between that unstructured world and the relational world. It is very doable to drag and drop an XML file into the XMLDB database into a XMLtype table and or for instance via FTP. From that point on it is in the database. From there you could move into relational tables via XMLTABLE methods or XML Views.
You could see the described method as a filtering option so XML can be transformed into relational data. If you don't want any XML in your current database, then create an small Oracle database with XML DB installed (if doable 11.1.0.7 regarding the best performance --> all the new fast optimizer stuff etc). Use that database as a staging area that does all the XML shredding for you into relational components and ship the end result via database links and or materialized views or other probably known methodes into your relational database that isn't allowed to have XMLType.
This way you would keep your realtional Oracle database clean and have the Oracle XML DB staging database do all the filtering and shredding into relational components.
Throwing the XML DB option out off the window beforehand would be like replacing your Mercedes with a bicycle. With both you will be able to travel the distance from Paris to Rome, but it will take you a hell of lot longer.

FOD schema installation with tutorial Database Development with JDeveloper
I followed the instruction online at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/index-095536.html to install FOD schema. Errors displayed when call "run ant target -> buildall" were below:

But still got message - "BUILD SUCCESSFUL" at the end. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
My intention of performing FOD schema installation was to follow the tutorial "Database Development with JDeveloper" at http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps1/databasedevelopment/obe_%20databasedevmt.htm. But I stopped at the last topic "Creating and Debugging PL/SQL Objects in the Database" ->"Running a SQL Script to Create an Object Type" when trying to create a object using script on the page.
This is the script:
------------------------------------------------start
REM
REM Create object ORDER_ITEMS_REC
REM
CREATE or REPLACE type ORDER_ITEMS_REC as object
ORDER_ID NUMBER(15),
LINE_ITEM_ID NUMBER(3),
PRODUCT_ID NUMBER(15),
QUANTITY NUMBER(6),
UNIT_PRICE NUMBER(8,2),
CREATED_BY VARCHAR2(60),
CREATION_DATE DATE,
LAST_UPDATED_BY VARCHAR2(60),
LAST_UPDATE_DATE DATE,
OBJECT_VERSION_ID NUMBER(15)
show errors;
--------------------------------------------------end
and the error message I got was
------------------------------------------------start
Error report:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
01031. 00000 - "insufficient privileges"
------------------------------------------------end
I was wandering whether the error of FOD installation could cause the error of the tutorial?
Any response will be appreciated.1. you dont have to insall Oracle database at the BO machine side, you just need any database to hold the BO repository.
2. you cant connect directly using BO, only Crystal reports can connect directly to R3 database, you need to have a BW in between.
extract your data into the BW, and let BO connect to BW using the BO integration kit for SAP solutions.
3. no you dont have to have 3 different machines, using one BO machine you connect to them all, but you may need build a BO environment, (Development, Production servers)

Bug Database for Sun ONE Studio 8
Is there an online bug database for the Sun ONE Studio 8 Compiler Collection, like there is for all of the Java related tools? I know we have product support, but I don't want to go through the overhead of 4 or 5 layers of people to report a minor problem I have found.
The minor problem is that the er_src utility will open files in the current working directory in preference to an absolute pathname specified on the command line. I used it from my home directory, giving it an executable name and source file name each about 5 levels deep in directories below my home -- with absolute paths. I was shocked to see the source from a six year old version of the file in the output. The 'truss' utility revealed that the source was being opened from my current directory -- ignoring the absolute path. This version of the file is one I have kept for reference, being the initial port of the program from a different language.
It appears that er_src attempts the unqualified file name first, then the absolute path if it fails to find the unqualified name. The er_src man page does say the .er.rc files are processed, which implies that the setpath/addpath handling is done, at least to me. So the behavior reported is what I would have expected, but the manpage could, and should be more explicit.
The er_print man page is more specific, and does say that the compiled-in path is used only if the file is not found searching the current path mappings, which do contain "."
Can you tell me exactly what you'd like us to do? We did it this way because users complained about using the compiled in path, rather than finding the file in . or the experiments, where we explicitly tell people to copy files for archival purposes.
If you want us to change the behavior, please tell us EXACTLY what the desired behavior is. We could define a special symbol, like $EXPTS, to refer to the compiled-in path, $COMPPATH, perhaps, and then it could be put before or after . or $EXPTS.
Another issue is which name to use when. er_src has two referents for a path, one for "object", the thing whose source is being dumped, and a second for "item", specifying which item contained in the object should be dumped. For item, I believe we always only use the
base name, even if an absolute name is given. It is used to match against the names contained in object's symbol tables. All of this is complicated by NFS -- the present functionality is intended to behave gracefully when a file is examined on a machine other than the one on which
it was compiled. -
hi all,
I wonder if there is a forum dedicated to database modeling (I don´t mean a forum about sql syntax but a forum that discusses about how to model relationships between entities and all that stuff)
I know this forum has nothing to do with database modeling, so my intent is not to post any question about db modeling but just to find out if there is a forum dedicated to it anywhere on the web.
If everybody in this forum is researching about JDBC then some of you may know about such forum over the web.
Any hints will be welcome!
tnx!
Edited by: charllescuba1008 on Mar 15, 2010 1:03 PMjschell,
the url you provided talks about OO modeling and this kind of modeling is related to DB modeling. It is a helpful forum.
I am also considering visiting mysql and other database vendors websites to find out more specialized forums but only after i have a look at the forum you suggested!
thanks for your reply! -
Where can I find the bug database?
I was reading through the release notes for 2.4.16 and saw a reference to bug #16288 might have bearing on a problem I'm having. Would anyone know where I could find a detailed description of this bug? Also, if I find something that looks like a bug in the Berkeley DB XML, where would I send my report?
Hello,
Your problem is definitely [#16288] (see response on another thread). As Lauren said there is no publicly available bug database. Report them here and if you have a question about something from the changelog post that here as well, as you did.

Javac bug database still being maintained?
After the Oracle acquisition, is the javac bug database still being maintained? I submitted a bug report on 04/20/2010 and received an e-mail response back confirming it was a new bug on 04/22/2010. The e-mail said it would be posted in the external database in "a day or two", but now 12 days later Bug ID [6946211|http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6946211] is still not visible. I tried replying back to the e-mail but no response.
If anyone's interested, here is the sample code I submitted with the bug report.
public interface BaseType {
BaseType clone() throws CloneNotSupportedException;
public interface SubType<T extends BaseType & java.io.Closeable> extends BaseType {
}It should compile correctly but fails. It appears to be a generics bug.I am rather certain that years ago (thus pre Oracle) it could take weeks before posted bugs showed up.
And presumably this was discussed in the Generics forum before posting it as a bug. -
Database Lite and JDeveloper / ADF
Hello,
I'm planning to create a small application which will run on mobile PC in an off-line mode, having synchronization with master DB once connected to the proper network.
The main architecture on the target PC may be :
- Oracle Lite
- GlassFish
- ADF application
I downloaded JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 and the latest version of Oracle Lite (10.3.0.3).
I'm looking the tutorials but none of them are talking about the JDeveloper 11g version, they all speak about BC4J/OC4J. Since I'm new to Oracle's product I don't know these "products" (framework ?) and in the 11g version this seems to have disappeared.
Are those versions compatible with each other ?
Will the tutorial work ?
Regards
PS: the same thread is present on the JDeveloper forumThe main thread will be the one on JDeveloper section :)

I was able to make a successful jdbc to odbc database connection using Jdeveloper 10.1.3.0.2. I could see the list of tables in the Oracle database. However, release 10.1.3.0.4 produces the following message: "Invalid Fetch Size". I also tried a straight jdbc connection in the later release, and it returns a certain amount of metadata, but no list of tables. Why does the connection work for the earlier release but not the later release?
Thank you,
