Javac bug database still being maintained?

After the Oracle acquisition, is the javac bug database still being maintained? I submitted a bug report on 04/20/2010 and received an e-mail response back confirming it was a new bug on 04/22/2010. The e-mail said it would be posted in the external database in "a day or two", but now 12 days later Bug ID [6946211|http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6946211] is still not visible. I tried replying back to the e-mail but no response.
If anyone's interested, here is the sample code I submitted with the bug report.
public interface BaseType {
    BaseType clone() throws CloneNotSupportedException;
public interface SubType<T extends BaseType & java.io.Closeable> extends BaseType {
}It should compile correctly but fails. It appears to be a generics bug.

I am rather certain that years ago (thus pre Oracle) it could take weeks before posted bugs showed up.
And presumably this was discussed in the Generics forum before posting it as a bug.

  • [SOLVED] Is MythtTV still being maintained ?

    I was wondering if (or how I can check) the MythTV package for archlinux is still being maintained ?
    I prefer to use the supported package instead of AUR, but the package has not been updated with he new version (0.27.1) that has been released on May 27th.
    It has been flagged as out of date on May 29th, but still no update till now, and I am really looking forward to the bugfixes that are part of it
    How can I check if the maintainer is still actively maintaining the package or how can I contact him ?
    In this case that would be Balló György.

    See number 6: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=130138
    If you want the supported package in the repo, then wait for it to be ready.  if you want it now, use the -git package in the AUR.

    In this case that would be Balló György.
    If it was no longer maintained, it would be dropped from the [community] repo.  His email address is right after his name in the pacman -Si output.

  • Bug? Design-Notes are still being created (checkbox unchecked)

    Hey there,
    i've got an issue when using DW (CS6).
    Although i've unchecked the design-notes option und used the delete old _notes-button (that at least worked outstandingly ;- ) ) "_notes"-folder are still being created in my project.
    Is this a well known issue under some circumstances?

    It's a handy feature to keep even if you're not in a team environment. You could still do with the notes, but not upload them remotely.
    If you're in a team, this is critical to maintain sync.
    Unchecking design-notes will not stop creating these folders. If you're keen on still doing this, follow these steps:
    Go to "Manage Sites" in the site dropdown list
    Select the site you want to remove _notes folders from
    Click "Edit"
    Click "Advanced"
    Click "Remote Info" in the Category list
    Uncheck "Maintain Synchronization Information"
    Click "Design Notes" in the Category list
    Uncheck "Maintain Design Notes"
    That will disable creation of _notes folders for your site.
    If you want to delete all _notes folders for your site after you've chosen to stop creating new ones, click "Clean Up" button once.

  • Is code still being used

    We have a large database, with many stored procedures, packages, functions and views that have built up over such a long time that we no longer know which code is still being used.
    Is there any way of finding out if a procedure/package/view/function has recently been executed.
    The only way I could think of was to take away the privileges and see who shouts... but that's probably not the best idea.

    Find objects, that don't have other objects dependant on themDepending on how the database is used, this may or may not prove anything. Procedures that are called from SQL*Plus sessions or DBMS_JOBS wouldn't show up. Searching the text of your front-end application may be a chore as well.
    A similar caveat apllies to trawling the cache. You'd want to make sure you didn't drop procedures that are run once a month or once a quarter or once a year.
    In the absence of adequate documentation the only sound approach is to keep everything. Punishing your users - by removing their rights - for the incompetence of the support team is so wrong.
    Why do you want to get id of somne procedures? They are not like tables, they don't take up much space. Procedures that are not run don't have reported bugs, so they don't generate much additional work. The only issue I can see is when you have to do global work e.g. upgrading the database or applying some generic fix. That is additional work, I agree, but that's the price you have to pay for not having properly documented applications.
    We all do this (or rather don't do this) and we all end up having to do work we suspect is unnecessary but can't prove that's the case. Do we learn? Heck, no.
    Good luck, APC

  • Is Flash Builder 4.7 being maintained anymore?

    I posted this question in the Adobe Air Development forum. (Is Flash Builder 4.7 being maintained anymore?)
    One user responded that he heard Chris Campbell of Adobe report that he believed that they will fix major bugs but we should not expect actual progress on the tool itself because Adobe feels that the community creates better tools on their own.
    Does anyone on this forum have further intelligence on the future of Flash Builder? I am trying to decide if it is time to jump ship to another IDE.
    Thanks kindly!

    Can you please CLEAN up the podcasts that are no longer in service or being maintained? It's very tedious to click on someone's podcast to find that it hasn't been updated in 3 years.

    This is a user forum and it is best to post these inquiries to Apple Feedback:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    You are right, a lot of older dead podcasts do not belong in the podcasts section. But there is still a lot of these podcasts that have good information and deserve to still be listed. For example there is quite a few photography lesson based podcasts in which you can get good information from different sources.

  • Can't believe the caching bug is STILL there

    Hi,
    I MUST be missing something. It can't be true that this has not been fixed after so many years.
    So well, the problem is, every time you load an external asset or file, say for example using a Loader object or a URLLoader object (the same happened in AS2 with MovieClipLoader, LoadVars, XML.load() etc etc, and even before with loadMovie, etc) - every time you load a file, the Flash Player caches that file, and this is independent from your browser: it is Flash Player's own (and primitive) caching mechanism.
    Whenever you load a file with the same URL again, no matter whether the file has been changed or not, Flash Player will use the cached copy, and there's NO WAY to prevent that - there are a few workaround that I will discuss later but they don't solve the problem completely, besides being terribly combersome.
    Now, the HTTP protocol has a wonderful mechanism to manage the caching of files in an intelligent way, which has been working for years and, I think, was invented even before flash existed, however at least 10 years ago, and it works fine.
    If an HTML page has an IMG tag with an image, for example, and if the browser has already a cached version of the image with that URL, the browser will first ask the server for that file and declare it has a cached version with date xxx; if the server's file is not newer than xxx, then the server replies that the file has not changed and the browser can use its cached version (or insist to redownload it if he wishes). But if the file on the server is newer, the server will reply with the new file, and the browser will NEVER show an obsolete cached version of the image (or whatever file).
    Now, I don't know why, Flash Player was designed in a very primitive way that ignores this whole mechanism provided and standardised by the HTTP protocol. Flash Player will ALWAYS use a cached version of the file if he has one, it won't worry about veryfying whether it is obsolete or not.
    So, unless the user clears its cache, whenever you update an xml, txt, jpg or whatever file that is loaded within your flash application, users that have previously visited the page may still see the old version.
    Now, there's an easy workaround for ensuring that a cached version of the file is NEVER used, which is appending a "?somerandomname="+n to the filename, where n is obtained for example as n=(new Date()).value(); in order to ensure that it is always different.
    This way, the complete url of the file is always different and the cached version will never be used.
    However, this is not a solution either. For small text files it is ok, but for images and swf's for example, you DO want the cached file to be used IF it is not obsolete. Otherwise, returning visitors will always have to wait for the complete download time of everything, including files that have been downloaded yesterday and have not been modified.
    So, this problem has been solved ages ago by the HTTP protocol, but the Flash Player is naive and ignores it.
    I used to use 2 workarounds: the one I have mentioned for small files (texts, xml's), and the following one for files that can be updated every once in a while:
    In the main html page, I append "?lastupdate=dddddd" to the swf name, where dddddd is a manually edited date of the last time something relevant has been updated. So for example:
    <object ....... etc etc> <param name="movie" value="mainswffile.swf?lastupdate=20090625"/>... <embed etc etc etc src="mainswffile.swf?lastupdate=20090625"/></object>
    Or something like that.
    When I update some of the files that are to be loaded, I manually edit the "lastupdate" thing in the html.
    Then in the ActionScript programming I use the _root.lastupdate variable to append to the filenames of images or assets I load.
    All this is horribly cumbersome and error-prone. Image you deploy a website to a client that will be able to update his own texts and images: you have either to explain him how to edit the html file also, or create some complicated server-side or client-side script to manage the cache-avoiding system. That is, reinventing the wheel, in this case the cache.
    Every time a new version of the player was released, I expected it to fix the stupid caching problem and to make my cumbersome tricks obsolete and unnecessary.
    I expected to see that the new version would make proper use of HTTP caching protocol specifications, and use cached files ONLY when they are not outdated, after verifying it with the server according to the HTTP protocol.
    Every new version of the player was a disappointment.
    Then I hope the new version of the language, Action Script 3.0, would fix this.
    No, it seems it doesn't.
    I've done some tests with AS3 and with my great and sad surprise, the caching "bug" is still there.
    Well, the bug, not the "bug": this is a bug proper, because there's no reason why it should work this way.
    So, my question is.
    Maybe am I missing something? Is there a way, by using some method or property of URLLoader, Loader and/or URLRequest, to tell Flash Player to use the cache in an intelligent way? I mean, in a not-astonishingly-stupid way?
    Note that I'm not talking about forcing it to NOT USE cache at all: I mean using a cached version when it is appropriate, and redownloading the file when needed, as all decent http application have done for years.
    Perhaps there IS a way to solve this.... It should be the default behaviour and should be transparent, but however, if there is a SERIOUS fix (not a hackaround), that would at least solve the problem.
    Do anybody know of a method that really works?
    (I have read of people trying by using http headers with caching directives but without success; or in the best case maybe they were able to force never-caching, which is NOT a solution as I explained)
    Thanks in advance.
    And if there is any Adobe developer listening, please fix this bug since it is really a shame that an application written in 2008 or 2009 suffers from a problem that was elegantly and definitely solved in the XX century.
    Regards,
    m.

    I wrote a long reply and when I posted it it vanished.
    I had even control+c'opied it before submitting but it didn't even get into my clipboard.
    Shame on this forum (sorry to say that, but that's what I have to say).
    So, I'll try to write it again but it won't be the same: the amount of rage is augmented.
    Thank you BWolfe for letting me know that Flash now (since last year) has a bug management system. It was also such an enormous shame that it didn't have one.
    Adobe used to confuse bug reports with feature requests; now this kind of confusion is still partially there and it is reflected by the voting thing, which is an absolute aberration. In a decent bug management system, the developers take the responsibility to give the bugs the priority they deserve; and no matter how low the priority, even the smallest bug ALWAYS get into the queue.
    Now this bug we are discussing has been well known for AT LEAST EIGHT YEARS and I am not exaggerating at all, as I started using flash in 2001 and the issue was already mentioned here and there in forums etc; probably some blind people didn't see it as a bug (rather as a situation you have to face or work around), but it was known. And the very solution, as I already pointed out, was there even before Flash was conceived (well, for the sake of scientifical rigour, I should say, before Flash was commercialized): the HTTP protocol has the capability to perfectly manage file caching in a manner transparent to the higher layer.
    So, since I don't believe that nobody at Adobe (formerly Macromedia) has heard about a bug that every intermediate-level actionscript developer in the world knows of, it is already kind of a shame that we have to report it in 2009, but that's ok. But that we have to get votes, no, that's an insult.
    Jesus, ActionScript is a programming language, man, A PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE... it is not like Photoshop or Premiere; and it seems like in so many years, people who manage it haven't yet realised it completely.
    Big Brother contestants should be voted. Feature requests may be voted. Bugs cannot be voted should just be fixed one by one as soon as possible.
    Well, sorry for the rant and thank you for the answers.
    Hope this gets through this time.

  • Bug Database for Sun ONE Studio 8

    Is there an online bug database for the Sun ONE Studio 8 Compiler Collection, like there is for all of the Java related tools? I know we have product support, but I don't want to go through the overhead of 4 or 5 layers of people to report a minor problem I have found.
    The minor problem is that the er_src utility will open files in the current working directory in preference to an absolute pathname specified on the command line. I used it from my home directory, giving it an executable name and source file name each about 5 levels deep in directories below my home -- with absolute paths. I was shocked to see the source from a six year old version of the file in the output. The 'truss' utility revealed that the source was being opened from my current directory -- ignoring the absolute path. This version of the file is one I have kept for reference, being the initial port of the program from a different language.
    It appears that er_src attempts the unqualified file name first, then the absolute path if it fails to find the unqualified name.

    The er_src man page does say the .er.rc files are processed, which implies that the setpath/addpath handling is done, at least to me. So the behavior reported is what I would have expected, but the manpage could, and should be more explicit.
    The er_print man page is more specific, and does say that the compiled-in path is used only if the file is not found searching the current path mappings, which do contain "."
    Can you tell me exactly what you'd like us to do? We did it this way because users complained about using the compiled in path, rather than finding the file in . or the experiments, where we explicitly tell people to copy files for archival purposes.
    If you want us to change the behavior, please tell us EXACTLY what the desired behavior is. We could define a special symbol, like $EXPTS, to refer to the compiled-in path, $COMPPATH, perhaps, and then it could be put before or after . or $EXPTS.
    Another issue is which name to use when. er_src has two referents for a path, one for "object", the thing whose source is being dumped, and a second for "item", specifying which item contained in the object should be dumped. For item, I believe we always only use the
    base name, even if an absolute name is given. It is used to match against the names contained in object's symbol tables. All of this is complicated by NFS -- the present functionality is intended to behave gracefully when a file is examined on a machine other than the one on which
    it was compiled.

  • Jbo.passivationstore set to file, but PS_TXN table is still being created

    I've an app with application modules all having jbo.passivationstore set to file, a la the below:
           jbo.passivationstore="file" However, when i test this, the app creates the PS_TXN table and PS_TXN_SEQ sequence in the database. From reading the doc, I'd expect that only if jbo.passivationstore were set to database.
    Is there some other setting that needs to be configured in order to make the passiviation handled outside of the database?
    am using JDeveloper 11g.
    Thanks for your help.

    Timo, just tried it, that didn't work - PS_TXN is still being created.
    i found that just deleting the names from the properties in the JDev UI had no effect. so i then literally set the attributes to empty strings as below:
    <Database  jbo.locking.mode="optimistic" jbo.txn_seq_name="" jbo.txn_table_name=""/>is there some other step i should take?
    thanks for the quick response.

  • Java 1.5 javac bug

    I'm getting an error message that dumps what looks like a stack trace when I try to compile a medium-sized application with a number of different classes in different packages. The problem seems to occur when I specify a list of .java files to compile and one of the earlier ones depends on one of the later ones or on one that's not listed on the command line at all. All necessary files are in the classpath.
    Does anyone know a workaround? Where do I go to report the bug to Sun? Is there a special bug database for Java 1.5 beta? What is the URL?

    My iMessages don't work since updating. It says the Messages database is being upgraded, please wait while it finishes or Quit Messages and relaunch it later. How do I get them working again?

    Back up all data.
    Quit Messages if it’s running. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it and test after each of the following steps. If the problem isn't resolved, quit again and go on to the next step.
    Step 1
    Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
    If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
    Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
    In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
              Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
              Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
    from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
    From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select My Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them is marked with a red "X" as expired or invalid, delete it. Also delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name, whether valid or not.
    From the menu bar, select
              Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
    There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
    Log out and log back in.
    Step 2
    Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
    from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
              Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
              Caches/com.apple.Messages
              Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
              Containers/com.apple.iChat
              Containers/com.apple.soagent
              IdentityServices
    Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in.
    Step 3
    Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
              Messages
    Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
    If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place.
    Step 4
    In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
              com.apple.iChat
              com.apple.ids
              com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
              com.apple.imessage
              com.apple.imservice
    Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
    Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
    Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
    If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post your results.
    If you later decide that you don’t like the results of Steps 3 and 4, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.

  • Error : database is being refreshed

    I am getting this error:
    com.hyperion.planning.HspCubeRefreshInProgressException: Cannot complete your request because the database is being refreshed....when I try to do anything to the system.
    I think the application is stuck in this mode because I tried to refresh it yesterday and the system crashed while it was being refreshed. It has since been rebooted but I'm still getting the error. The whole problem goes back to trying to delete an Enity member. I got the warning that all data and planning units would be deleted...etc., but I want to delete it anyway. I then tried to refresh and it crashed the system. Any ideas?

    Hi,
    The application is probably locked you can use HspUnlockApp utility to unlock the application, it is in the \planning\bin directory
    Cheers

  • Bug #18104 still exists

    Hello,
    I am quite disappointed about BDB 5. One of the most nasty bugs (#18104) still
    exists. As soon as you want to use the set_thread_count() feature, BDB will not
    free the thread-control-block. If you connect/disconnect, BDB will stop working
    quite early. You can re-produce this issue with any `db_*` tool.
    The testcase:
    #include <stdlib.h>
    #include <db.h>
    #define DIRECTORY "/tmp/db"
    int main()
        /* open environment */
        DB_ENV *handle;
        int status = db_env_create( &handle, 0 );
        status = handle->set_cachesize( handle, 0, 32*1024*1024, 0 );
        status = handle->set_thread_count( handle, 0x100 );
        status = handle->open( handle, DIRECTORY, DB_CREATE, 0644 );
        if( status != 0 )
            return 1;
        /* raise error "Unable to allocate thread control block" */
        for( ;; )
            system( "db_stat -e -h " DIRECTORY " | grep process/thread | wc" );
        return 0;
    }

    Hi Sandra,
    Hi Greg,
    Our architecture is quite simple: a cron-job runs ENV->failchk() and ENV->txn_checkpoint()
    once a minute (which should be fine, shouldn't it?)
    The problem, neither ENV->close() nor ENV->failchk() removes outdated items from the
    thread-control-block. One would expect, that the PID is added to the block as soon as the
    process connects and removed when the process disconnects. But it is not.
    If the block runs out of memory, BDB requires a recovery (see the down below testcase).
    Usually ENV->failchk() cleans the thread-control-block, as soon as there are more items in
    the block than "thread_count". Today three times it did not even remove them, if there were
    more than "thread_count" items in the block - but this happend sporadic so it was difficult
    to create a testcase.
    Once ENV->failchk() cleans the thread-control-block, BDB works as expected. If a process
    connects, the PID is added to the block, and as soon as the process disconnects, the PID is
    removed from the thread-control-block. You can test this by looping the first loop 1090 times.
    The testcase:
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <stdlib.h>
    #include <signal.h>
    #include <db.h>
    #include <errno.h>
    #define DIRECTORY "/tmp/db"
    static int bdb_is_alive( DB_ENV *dbenv, pid_t pid, db_threadid_t tid, u_int32_t flags )
        int status;
        status = kill( pid, 0 );
        if( status != -1 )
            return 1;
        if( errno == ESRCH )
            return 0;
        exit( 1 );  /* should never happen */
    int main()
        system( "mkdir -p " DIRECTORY );
        system( "db_recover -h " DIRECTORY );
        system( "rm -rfv " DIRECTORY "/*" );
        /* open environment */
        int status, i;
        DB_ENV *handle;
        status = db_env_create( &handle, 0 );
        status = handle->set_cachesize( handle, 0, 32*1024*1024, 0 );
        status = handle->set_thread_count( handle, 1091 );
        status = handle->set_isalive( handle, bdb_is_alive );
        status = handle->open( handle, DIRECTORY, DB_CREATE, 0644 );
        if( status != 0 )
            return 1;   /* should never happen */
        status = handle->failchk( handle, 0 );
        status = handle->close( handle, 0 );
        /* Now start workers (`db_stat`) + failchks() */
        for( i=0; i < 1089; ++i )       /* thread_count - 2 */
            fprintf(stderr,"Number of items in the thread-control-block: "); fflush(stdout);
            system( "db_stat -e -h " DIRECTORY " | grep process/thread | wc -l" );
            status = db_env_create( &handle, 0 );
            status = handle->set_isalive( handle, bdb_is_alive );
            status = handle->open( handle, DIRECTORY, DB_CREATE, 0644 );
            if( status != 0 )
                return 1;   /* should never happen */
            status = handle->failchk( handle, 0 );      /* strange - does not remove the process-entries created by `db_stat` */
            if( status != 0 )
                return 1;   /* should never happen */
            status = handle->close( handle, 0 );
        /* raise error: "Unable to allocate thread control block" */
        for( i=1; i < 422; ++i )
            fprintf(stderr,"Number of items in the thread-control-block: "); fflush(stdout);
            system( "db_stat -e -h " DIRECTORY " | grep process/thread | wc -l" );
        /* You should see on stderr:
                db_stat: Unable to allocate thread control block
                db_stat: Unable to allocate thread control block
                db_stat: DB_ENV->open: /tmp/db: Cannot allocate memory
        fprintf(stderr,"BDB is dead now. Only `db_recover` helps...\n%s\n",db_version(NULL,NULL,NULL));
        return 0;
    }
