BUG?? Exeption handling brakes a Loop?! (PL/SQL executed by C) Anybody know this ????

(OS - SCO, Oracle 817, Pro*C/C++: Release 2.2.4.0.0)
In C program I have a PL/SQL block with WHILE LOOP. Inside the loop I have SELECT statement with a begin..end arroung it and with EXCEPTION WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND for internal block. In this exception I have no RAISE statement. So, I expect the loop will be not broken by NO_DATA_FOUND error.
After control comes to the EXCEPTION NO_DATA_FOUND the loop is not continue anymore (but error is not populated out of this begin..end.) If EXCEPTION NO_DATA_FOUND is commented by -- the loop runs completely.
Is it known bug? Does anybody get something like this?
To be more specific, my EXEC SQL EXECUTE .. END EXECUTE block looks like this:
DECLARE
BEGIN
WHILE .. LOOP
begin SELECT ...
exception when NO_DATA_FOUND then NULL;
when others then ... RAISE;
end;
END LOOP;
END;
Would appreciate any response on this matter.
Thanks!
Alex.

Call the procedure from another "wrapper" procedure. In the wrapper, place the call within to your existing procedure in a
for i in 1..3 loop
  call procedure;
  if <successful condition> then
    exit loop;
  end if;
end loop;I think that'd be easier than trying to work on controlling everything from within a single procedure. You could even set up a PACKAGE where the wrapper was the only public procedure, where your current procedure is private, and thus, can't be called outside of the wrapper, by accident. --=cf

  • For Each Loop PL/SQL

    I am slowly learning PL/SQL, I have some programming experience using Visual Basic for Excel, so I am not totally in the dark, but not really sure :-)
    Here is what I am trying to do, am on 10g by the way.
    I have about 10+ Tables in my schema, with pretty much the same structure and I know that I could use plain SQL to do this with, but I want to learn PL/SQL.
    So, I have 10+ tables where I have to add a new field of type varchar2(100), I was wondering if I could employ the FOR LOOP or maybe something better, list all the Tables that I need to ALTER and say:
    For each Table from list
    LOOP
    alter table table_name add KEY varchar2(100);
    END LOOP;
    I have the full list of the Tables, what do you guys think ?

    If you want to practice PL/SQL then this is the wrong task.
    You would need to use dynamic SQL (execute immediate or dbms_sql) for this, but usually you should avoid dynamic SQL for many reasons.
    As you already mentioned this can be easily done with SQL.
    What I do in such cases is to build a select that returns me the 10+ alter table statements.
    The oracle data dictionary (e.g. the view user_tables) has enough information to build such a select based on your requirements.
    Then save the result into a file and run the file as a script in sql*plus.
    example untested
    select 'alter table '||t.table_name||' add KEY varchar2(100);'
    from user_tables t
    where t.table_name like 'XYZ%'
    and t.table_name not in (select c.table_name from user_tab_columns c where column_name = 'KEY');Changes to the data structure in your database should not be done programatically (e.g by pl/sql) but should be entered into your version control system so that you can run the same script against your development database, against your test database and later against your production database.

  • Handling errors on looping through a package

    Here is my issue:
    I am tyring to call a package in a loop to index rows into oracle text index 10g. When called by the app, sometimes its valid that data will be gone by the time its indexed and the package errors out and writes to a table my ora error of no data found.
    This works fine until:
    The application is calling my package and seems to have timing issues on creation of the index item compared to the call so for the interim (not permanent) I wanted to call my package and pass it every number that was in one table and missing from another.
    This logic is easy and I got it to work splendidly in minutes as an print out in a cursor in a procedure I was going to call every so often with a job... but (there's always a but) it errors out with my no data found error and kills the entire loop and I don't get to finish processing the rogue numbers.
    I know this is a hack... please forgive this. I just need an idea of how one might loop and call this procedure and pass it the numbers individually... not in a list like my cursor. The syntax itself I can probably slice and dice my way through its the concept I am missing...
    Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge,
    Va

    Assuming that you are calling the stored procedure and passing it values from the cursor, and that it a select statement in the stored procedure that raises no_data_found, then Justin's code should allow you to keep going with the other records from the cursor.
    By "handling" the no_data_found exception within the loop (even if that handling is do nothing), it goes away and your code will continue with the next statement. As a quick demo:
    SQL> SELECT * FROM t;
            ID S
             1 A
             2 B
             1 C
    SQL> DECLARE
      2     l_dummy VARCHAR2(1);
      3  BEGIN
      4     FOR r IN (SELECT id, sorter FROM t
      5               ORDER BY sorter) LOOP
      6        BEGIN
      7           SELECT dummy INTO l_dummy
      8           FROM dual
      9           WHERE 1 = r.id;
    10           DBMS_OUTPUT.Put_Line('Success with '||r.sorter);
    11        EXCEPTION WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
    12           DBMS_OUTPUT.Put_Line('No data with '||r.sorter);
    13        END;
    14     END LOOP;
    15  END;
    16  /
    Success with A
    No data with B
    Success with C
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.Here, my select from dual is equivalent to your procedure call.

    Hi,
    This 3rd time I followed this link. But nothing new, same error.
    Can you please tell me how to do follow, I cannt do the 1st step, how to change the local system to windows level account, vice-versa. It is shown mine as
    Server Configuration Manager(Local)
    From here I folllowed the steps ---[I cannt insert link/image :-(]
    SQL 2008/R2 setup fails with "Wait on the database engine recovery handle failed"
    If I right clicked on SQL Server Service, there is no option to change the account.
    Hello,
    Thanks for your patience,did you tried stesp mentioned in below article
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqljourney/archive/2012/03/16/sql-2008-r2-setup-fails-with-quot-wait-on-the-database-engine-recovery-handle-failed-quot.aspx
    To resolve it, follow these steps:-
    When the installation throws this error, click on OK and allow it to proceed. It will fail for Database Engine, but the SQL Server service should have
    been created. Check the Services console.
    If the service is present, perform the following steps:-
    1. Go to SQL Server Configuration manager, right click on the SQL Server service, and change the service account (if it is local system, give
    it a windows level account, and vice-versa). It might throw a WMI error but you will see the account getting updated anyway. If not, then use the Services console. Change the account for SQL Agent as well.
    Use this link to change sql server service account
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345578.aspx
    2. Next, try to start the service. It should come online.
    3. However, you will not be able to log in to the SQL Server
    4. Now stop the service and start it from the command prompt using -m -c -T3608 parameters.
    5. Now try logging in to the server using admin connection from sqlcmd (sqlcmd admin:<server name>\<instance name> ...)
    6. Once logged in, use the sp_addsrvrolemember '<domain\username>','sysadmin'.
    Also add the builtin/administrators to the sysadmin role

  • I need one recurcive(unended loop) pl/sql example, its very urgent pls

    Hi,
    I need one recurcive (unended loop) pl/sql example, its very urgent pls
    Thanks,
    Sathis.

    I suppose you'll want to know how to get out of your undended loop too (although that does stop it being unended).
    Example...
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  DECLARE
      2    v_cnt NUMBER := 0;
      3  BEGIN
      4    LOOP
      5      EXIT WHEN v_cnt = 1000;
      6      v_cnt := v_cnt + 1;
      7    END LOOP;
      8* END;
    SQL> /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

  • BUG (?) with simple while loop in LV2011

    Hello all,
    I have found a very strange behaviour in LV2011: A While Loop is not executed when running as EXE (in Development Environment it works)
    While Loop:
    (OK, its not the best way to check if button was pressed, but the WHILE Loop itself should be executed)
    How to reproduce:
    1. download attached file
    2. open built EXE file
    3. Look at numeric indicator. At my PC, the values are not increased->this means: while loop is not running
    4. Open Project (lvproj)  (I hope I havent forgotten anything)
    5. Start running the VI from whithin LabView (debug) -> now it should run
    6. Try to build EXE
    7. Try with new EXE. Still not executed While Loop?
    BTW: I have saved the code for LV2010. There it is running. Strange.

    Hi Norbert,
    I'm hair-splitting as normal.
    Re Dead code
    Please cite a reference.
    1) There is an old school of thought that code should never be removed only replaced with a new version. This allows quickly switching back to the old version if the new version seems wacky.
    2) Diagram disable is new and we used to use a boolean to disable old code. Apperently there is some noob loose in R&D that never imagined anyone would use a constant and this bug fell through the testing cracks. I have recently logged a call >>> CAR about a case with a constant preventing a build.
    3) THe useage of a boolean constant to disable a code segment was knowan at one time becuase there was mutation code imlemented to convert constant to controls when open in a new version.
    4) A diagram disable will force an ignore of the code in the disabled state. A constant driven case did NOT have that behaviour and we used to use it to ensure dynamic VI's were included in VIs.
    So please cite the reference that I apperently missed.

  • Mass SQL executing from standalone app to sever  - Suggestion only.

    Which way can be the best way to execute the SQL to server in mass form.
    I 'm trying to make a program which executes the mass SQL to server from the local SQL server.I even need to show the progress of excuted SQL in percentage form (multi-threading via SwingWorker) and futher more it must be recoverable when there is interrupt / crash during SQL executing process.
    According to my idea I'm suceeded to execute the mass SQL from local SQL via these steps (Algorithm).
    1.Query for the SQL which are not being updated in server e.g "SELECT 'SQL' FROM 'PENDING' WHERE UPLOADED=0"
    2.Getting SQL one by one via Loop.
    3.Creating TEMP FILE in client and write "1"
    4.Execute the SQL to Server
    5.Change the value of '1' to '2' in TEMP FILE
    6.Update the value of UPLOADED=0 to 1 in PENDING Table
    7.Finally delete the TEMP FILE from client computer .
    8.Goes to next SQL until the Loop ends
    I'm using TEMP_FILE so that i can know whether the SQL executing process was completed sucessfully or not. And to correct the interrupted/crashed SQL process i've used 1,2 in TEMP FILE as the step of executing process.
    But somehow I think there is good way to handle this problem.So I posted here to get better solution for my problem . I 've even thought about SQL Batch Processing but I don't think it's good idea for recovering SQL from crashes and interrupt

    Hello DynamicBasics
    I've followed the tutorial but not working for me!

                    String sql = ("INSERT INTO transaction VALUES(?,?)");
                    PreparedStatement stmt = getServerConnection().prepareStatement(sql);
                    stmt.setString(1,"SALES");
                    stmt.setInt(2,0);
                    stmt.executeUpdate();   //does it update as seperately
                    PreparedStatement stmt2 = getServerConnection().prepareStatement(sql);
                    stmt2.setString(1, "PURCHASE");
                    stmt2.setInt(2, 1);
                    stmt2.executeUpdate();  //does it update as seperately
              //i've not done commit() but even it's being executed
            catch(SQLException se){
                se.printStackTrace();
             isUploaded = false;
            return isUploaded;
    }As I read using Transaction is meant to execute many sql as a single unit but it's being executed seperately even i've not done commit().
    I think executeUpdate() already executes the sql . Or do i need to used batch for it ??
    Please help

  • In Forms 10g Where does SQLs execute?

    In Oracle Forms 10g there is Java Applet on top of which our Application runs. Now suppose we have a button and in that we execute a SQL to get a column value.
    Now where does the SQL fire?
    Does it fire in the Applet (i.e in client) or does it go to the App Server and then execute?

    RTM first!
    If it's PL/SQL written in the form, that executes on the application server, that has a PL/SQL engine.
    If it's a call to a procedure stored in the database, that executes in the database.
    If it's SQL, then that can execute nowhere else except in the database.
    Do not imagine that the applet does any other thing except rendering what you see on screen and handling the clicks and keystroke to the application server (which does the further processing, handling to the database the SQL that has to be executed).
    Briefly, that's the basics.

  • SQL Server 2008 Express - timeout issues, "This SqlTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable."

    Good morning all!   I work for a small business that uses a robust Accounting/Inventory database called Traverse (or Open Systems) and is run on a desktop computer using SQL Server 2008 Express.
    We don't have an IT department, but I have a bit of knowledge, so I've been the go-to person to handle any tech support issues in our tiny 5 person office.  I've been reading up on SQL Server 2008 Express, but am completely stumped on this issue.
    Our database would work consistently well for quite a while - sometimes getting disconnected from the server and requiring a restart of either the SQL Server itself or the Traverse License Server.
    About two weeks ago, I noticed that nobody had ever run Windows Update on the desktop that we have SQL Server on, so I spent the better part of a day updating everything, hoping it would help some of the little buggy issues we've been having.   Unfortunately,
    by applying the updates, I think it may have altered settings - or updated appropriately and our functionality is diminished.
    Basically, we have 3 users connecting into the server to use the database at any time.  Sometimes we might not be accessing information constantly, and it appears we're getting a timeout message in the SQL Server Log - stating the system was awoken
    by user activity after around 25-30 minutes.  When this happens, the system is painfully slow and locks up, giving SQL Server Connection errors, or the "This SqlTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable." message.   I noticed that
    there is a connection timeout of 15 seconds set for our SQL Server, but it's greyed out in the dialog box I saw it in, and am not sure if that's even a culprit.
    I'd just like to get this working again to where we can continue to use the database throughout the day without waiting for it to seemingly load all of the data after "waking up".  It's to a point that one of my employees is coming into my
    office every 5 minutes complaining that she can't do anything in Traverse.  I'm about to lose my mind!
    If anyone has any clue what could be the issue, I'd be so grateful for help.  If you need any logs, messages, etc.. please let me know which and I will share them.  Thank you again!

    This is known as the Zombie Check exception. It is generally caused by trying to commit a transaction twice or trying to roll back a committed transaction. It can also be caused by a connection closing before the transaction is complete. In you case I would
    suspect the latter.
    See this article on setting the default timeout.

  • Timing Loop won't Execute

    I think this is a labVIEW bug, but I'm looking for a work around or a 'gotcha'.
    I was attempting to create a timing loop for the purposes of sychronizing two sections of code within a VI.  The timing loops would not execute and so as part of the debugging process I created a simple empty timing loop with a 'stop button' in it.  Put a probe on the wire between the stop button and the stop terminal of the timing loop and executed my VI.  The Timing loop never executed.
    I then created a new VI to continue debugging the timing loop: I created a new VI and a new timing loop with only a stop button, placed the probe in the same place, (between the button and the stop terminal) and ran the 'untitled vi'.  In the new vi the timing loop ran as intended.
    All I can think is that there is some VI property in my rather complicated VI that prohibits timing loops but is not producing an error or warning.  I did check the VI properties and though they are not default there isn't anything that should be interfering with running a timing loop (e.g. critical execution).
    I'm looking for solutions and work arounds.
    Using LabVIEW 2014 SP1 32 bit.

    When I try to access my application I am getting below runtime exception.
    Is it a bug in NetWeaver CE 7.1 SP3 server? Any hint to resolve this?
