Bug handling Exchange password changes

My colleagues and I believe we have uncovered a bug with the way iOS 5 handles situations when a user's Exchange password has changed. The iPhone or iPad appears to hit the Exchange server repeatedly with the incorrect password. In my company's environment, this causes the Exchange account to be locked out, as we have a policy in our Active Directory locking the account after a number of bad password attempts.
We had an unrelated incident yesterday that required us to issue new passwords to a number of users. Many of them are now having trouble getting back on Windows PCs and Exchange email because they are iPhone or iPad users and this bug is locking out their accounts.

We have a simular problem, only the account is not locked out (Normaly after 3 tries the user is locked out) and users can still access their e-mail with a wrong password. Sometimes even after 4 days the iphone prompts that the password needs to be changed, but untill that time you can still send and receive e-mail.

  • How to handle password changes if we implement singlesignon between BO& BI7

    Hi,
As we know ,we can implement single signon between BO and SAP BI 7, by importing roles and users through CMC and by selecting the option "Use Single signon during report refresh time".
My doubt here is, When we import roles from SAP and Auto import the users, is it only the SAP usernames that are stored in BO repository or both username and password. If  second case holds true then how to handle/manage password change for a user who is already imported in BO sometime back?
Would the password changes be reflected automatically in BO?
Please guide me if you think that I'm thinking in a wrong direction.

    Hi Naresh,
password changes are reflected automatically in BO. BO just forwards the data to the SAP side and it does the real authentification.
    Regards,
    Stratos
PS: Keep in mind that you cannot change the SAP password on the BO login screen if your SAP password has expired. You have to do this with the SAP client (SAP GUI)

  • How does your company handle user pwd changes?

I would like to know how other companies handle user password changes with Sun One Portal Server 6.0. Do you have an option in the portal server window itself or do you direct users to a page on the directory server?

    Just a little note
When you login into the portal server, you actually login to the Identity server (DSAME), and have a DSAME session, and when you logout from either amconsole or portal window you logout from the DSAME. The portal server uses Identity server for authentication purpose (if you see the login page you will notice the login action url is "/amserver/login" and the logout url is "/amserver/logout").

  • I changed my Exchange password in accounts but Notes continually prompts me to enter the new password.  How do I fix that?

I recently upgraded to Mavericks.  I also recently changed my Exchange password.  I went into System Preferences > Accounts and updated the Exchange password.  Mail works fine.  Notes however, continually prompts me to enter my password every 10 seconds.  What do I do to fix it?

when you go to system preferences>internet accounts and then choose your exchange account, is "Notes" checked?

  • I reset my exchange password and now I am receiving an error messsage on my ipad. I can't cancel it to change it in settings

I reset my exchange password and now I am getting an error message saying the password is incorrect on my ipad. I can't cancel the message to get to settings to change it.

Try pressing the sleep and home buttons both together for about 5 seconds and reboot the device.  Once the iPad reboots you should be able to go into the mail settings for that account and update the credentials.

  • I changed my exchange password and my ipad2 will not accept it.

I changed my exchange password and my ipad2 will not accept it. The iphone 4 did accept the new passwork

some exchange policies require a non proxy or known and secured connection to the exchange server to propagate policy/pw sync. your iphone may have been registered to the exchange server via phone number. connect your ipad to the network at work and sync, or if you have cdma/umts sync over that protocol after you have registered that device with exchange.
you should be able to manually add your device to your profile via outlook webmail under options and mobile devices.

  • Has anyone started making all the password changes necessary to ward off the effects of the Heartbleed bug?

Everything I have read about Heartbleed is enough to make you go back to the age before computers. However, even if you did, the support systems for everything these days is computer based. So there's no escaping it. Plus this is only the beginning. I wonder what will be next?
Anyway, I have started making password changes after carefully checking each website for vulnerability. It is a tedious process to say the least. It is painstakingly slow.
Does anyone have any ideas to make this process easier and less painful?

This may not help you this time but I use LastPass as my password manager and they made it very easy because they very quickly released a tool that allowed me to automatically check all of my stored passwords and alert me to which ones were for affected sites and whether or not the site had yet corrected the problem. Additionally LastPass has always been able to sense when I make a password change for a site that I have a stored password and makes it easy to store the change. It also has a capability to generate passwords with random characters, etc. http://blog.lastpass.com/2014/04/lastpass-now-checks-if-your-sites-are.html
In terms of help for this time, the password generation ability and the ability to store the passwords is something that may make your job easier.

  • I changed my exchange password and iPad won't recognize new password. I can't get past the box telling me password is incorrect to access settings or anything else. Ideas?

Am unable to access anything on iPad because it tells me my exchange password is incorrect

I couldn't get past the dialog box in order to delete since it seemed to be stuck in some sort of loop..  I found the answer under "More like this".  Had to do a reset (hold power and home buttons for 10 seconds).  When iPad eventually came back to life, the dialog box was gone and I was able to get into Settings and reset the password.  All fixed now!

  • Iphone emails to PC, but exchange password and account cancelled.

    Dear All,
Can anyone explain to me how to transfer emails from my iphone to a PC.
The only catch is that the email account exchange password and account has been cancelled.
However as some of you may know your emails still remain on the iphone.
It means you can acces them and seach through your emails.
I want to be able to place these emails on to a PC.
    Thanks all for your help.

Everytime I open my email the password Incorrect screen appears. It says "Enter the password for the Exchange account "Exchange"". I have a second email address that was being transferred to my Iphone, but when I lost my original phone and replaced it this July, I hav'nt been able to retrieve this old password. The Apple store rep said to contact Microsoft for this info, but that's next to impossible!! I had a very old hotmail account but that's been closed for over two years, and my other email adress has nothing to do with them. So I'm at a loss on how to change this password??
    Thanks, wtadams

  • User Password change fails in OWA 2013

User Password change fails in OWA with this error: Your password couldn't be changed. Make sure the old password you typed is correct and that the new password meets the minimum security requirements.
We are migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  Have mailboxes in both environments.  OWA 2007 password changes succeed (user mailbox is still in Exchange 2007).  When the user mailbox is moved to Exchange 2013, password changes fail
    with the above error.
We have the Exch 2013 servers are on Windows 2012 and we are running Exch 2013 CU3.   We have made changes to the Default Role Assignment Policy to prevent users from changing Contact information and setting user photos, etc.  We are not exactly
sure when user password changes stopped working, or even if they ever did work, although we recently installed our Prod Exch 2013 servers alongside our 2007 servers without any RBAC delegation implemented and a quick test of a user password change was successful.
I reversed all the changes to the Default Role Assignment Policy but the password change still fails.

    Hi,
Please try the following steps in your CAS server:
    1. Click Start > Run and type regedit and click OK.
    2. Navigate to the "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchange OWA" key.
    3. Set the ChangeExpiredPasswordEnabled value from 1 to 0.
    4. Close regedit and re-open it.
    5. Set the ChangeExpiredPasswordEnabled value from 0 to 1.
    6. Close regedit.
    7. After you configure this DWORD value, please reset IIS. The recommended method to reset IIS is to use IISReset /noforce from a command prompt.

  • Outlook 2013 - Password change breaks S/MIME Certs "An error occurred in the underlying security system. Key not valid for us in specified state."

AD password change comes up, user changes password.
Tries to send signed or encrypted email with a Comodo S/MIME certificate, and gets the following error:
""An error occurred in the underlying security system.  Key not valid for us in specified state."
I now have two reports of this error - one on Windows 7, and one on Windows 8.0 (remote user).
The one on Windows 8.0, we tried removing their S/MIME cert from Outlook/Windows and re-adding, this did NOT resolve the issue.
Plan was originally to have the 8.0 user ship their machine in, and wipe it, since nothing else could fix it and I wasn't finding anyone else with the same issue.  Now that I've got a second user with the same issue, its looking like a bug/issue and
    not a random glitch.
Thanks in advance for any and all help with this!

  • Outlook prompting for password after password change

I have a client who has Exchange 2013 and the PCs run Windows 8.1 with Office 2013.
The users just started having the following problem. Their domain passwords are expiring and when they update them with a new one, Outlook starts prompting them for a password when they open it and periodically while Outlook is running. They keep entering
the new password and checking the box to remember it, but the password prompt keeps coming back.
I've checked and the account in Outlook does not have the box checked to always prompt for logon credentials. I did notice that the proxy authentication is set for NTLM so I changed it to Basic, restarted Outlook and there was no password prompt and the
user has not seen one since.
Any idea why having the proxy authentication set to NTLM would cause this after the domain password changed? It has been set to NTLM rather than Basic for years now. Exchange 2013 has been in use there for about 6 months and Office 2013 longer than
that. Windows 8.1 has been on the computers for 3-5 months so I don't think that's it either. I've tried with our domain account we have setup there and with a test user account by changing the password on them but with the proxy authentication set to NTLM
I haven't had the password prompt appear other than once the next time Outlook is opened after the password change, and that is to be expected.
So it's not every user account but a good number of them this is happening with.
    Jonathan

    I have an update.
There must be a GPO or setting in Outlook changing the proxy authentication to NTLM because this morning it was changed back to NTLM from Basic. They all either shut down or restarted their computers since I worked on them Friday.
One user got the password prompt one time when starting Outlook. She entered the password and that was it. But she was unable to connect to a shared calendar. She put her computer to sleep, woke it up, logged in, and then was able to connect to the shared
    calendar. I don't understand that.
Another user could not get the password prompt to go away this morning no matter how often he input his password, and he also was unable to connect to the shared calendar. So I changed the proxy authentication back to Basic again, restarted Outlook (which
is required), got no password prompt, and he was able to connect to the calendar.
I realize the calendar issue is tied to the password issue. What I don't understand is why these people are getting the password prompt ever since they changed their domain password.
I have a test account and test PC set up in a VM and it does not have any of these problems. I've changed its password 3 times but I never get a prompt when opening Outlook and it is set to NTLM.
I hope someone out there has an idea why changing their password now is causing this authentication problem in Outlook.

  • Using AnyConnect NAM for wireless and AD password changes

    Hi,
I am having a problem with AD password changes and wireless profiles in AnyConnect. Once a user changes their password from their PC and then tries to connect to our WPA2 802.1x wireless it fails to authenticate and I cannot find a way to update the password that works. So we currently delete the wireless profile and create a new one. Is there a way that NAM could pull user/password from login or any other fix. We are also using ACS 4.1. AnyConnect version 3 to 3.0.5080.
    Thanks!

In your anyconnect profile did you set the "use single sign on credentials"? Also did you try the repair option to see if it works after that (I am not suggesting a solution but for troubleshooting). Does logging on and off the machine help resolve the issue? Does this happen on all workstations?
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/vpn_client/anyconnect/anyconnect30/administration/guide/ac04namconfig.html#wp1166170
Even though this is for user authentication this bug seems like a candidate:

  • How can I get into settings if I don't have the exchange password for my iPod Touch

I can't update my iPod Touch, 4th gen. through iTunes because it says it can't connect. I can't get into my settings because it keeps asking for an exchange password that I don't remember. Is there some way I can reset the iPod without having access to either of these means?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
Restoreing from backup will not change the need for the forgotton password if the backup was made with password on the iPod
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Exchange password

I changed my exchange password today on my laptop and iphone without a problem.  However, now when I turn on my ipad, it asks for my exchange password.  I type in my new password, and it says "password incorrect" and immediately pops up the keyboard again.  I managed to get into settings by double clicking the home button to get icons across the bottom, but as soon as the settings screen comes up, it's made unavailable to me by the stupid keyboard and message asking me for my exchange password.  I can't delete the account or change it in any way.  This has rendered my ipad useless.

I'm hoping to not have to do anything as drastic as restoring from a backup, if for no other reason than I'm not near the computer that I back this thing up to right now.  Hitting cancel doesn't work.  I've hit cancel a million times, and I can't ever get a click in between screens...  the ipad just puts the next message box up way too quickly.  I can't change the settings, because I can't interact with the ipad at all because of the uber persistent dialog box requesting my password that it insists is wrong (which it isn't).  What the heck!
