How does your company handle user pwd changes?

I would like to know how other companies handle user password changes with Sun One Portal Server 6.0. Do you have an option in the portal server window itself or do you direct users to a page on the directory server?

Just a little note
When you login into the portal server, you actually login to the Identity server (DSAME), and have a DSAME session, and when you logout from either amconsole or portal window you logout from the DSAME. The portal server uses Identity server for authentication purpose (if you see the login page you will notice the login action url is "/amserver/login" and the logout url is "/amserver/logout").

  • 1099misc processing and corrections - How does your company deal with it

    When we went live with SAP, we implemented a hybrid, SAP and in-house developed solution to handle the 1099misc reporting and corrections process.
    We run a Z version of RFW1099M program to produce our initial file for 1099misc reporting
    We run a home grown program that takes in the file produced by our Z version of RFW1099M and any other miscelleneous  files that we need to bring in for 1099misc and we produce the first cut of  the 1099misc SMART forms (we don't use the same form that SAP has as standard as we produce a pressure sealed one) and a 'final' file to go to the IRS.
    This home grown program also allows us to modify the 'final' file to produce corrected 1099s.
    The issue that we have going forward is that there are IRS changes for 2009 that require changes to the way 1099Misc corrections are reported.  I have ideas about how we can change our home grown process, but was wondering how everyone else deals with the process?
    Why doesn't SAP have a comprehensive, integrated solution to 1099M reporting?  What does your company do?
    Thanks for your help in advance.
    Marianne

    Hi Marianne,
    Report RFW1099M is fully compliant with requirements of IRS. Please also note that if you are on release 470 or higher you should use report RFIDYYWT instead of report RFW1099M, as SAP only supports report  RFW1099M in releases 46C and lower.
    with kind regards

  • How does iTunes Genius handle two libraries for the same user?

    I've been reading lately about how iTunes Genius should work. To my understanding, one of its basic principles, is absorbing usage data from users in order to create a database consisting of as much information possible. I don't expect a detailed explanation about the algorithms here. I know Apple doesn't share that kind of information (for obvious reasons) and I doubt I'd be able to understand much of it anyway. What I would like to know, though, in general terms, is how does this mechanism handle an instance like mine, where I use my Apple ID on two computers - one at home, another at work. That way, I have all my songs on both computers, so I can listen to them in either location. Obviously, each such library produces different usage data.
    Thanks in advance for any information, as I'm quite curious about it.

    Dear Fateh,
    Thanks for the reply.
    The features of this plugin are:
    Configurable timeout actions including alert, redirect, and logout
    Optional and configurable warning message
    Option to keep session alive if user isn’t truly idle. Special thanks to Martin D’Souza for a great idea on how to implement this feature.
    But it cannot stop a new session for a user, if there is an active (in my definition apex_workspace_activity_log.seconds_ago<240) session already running for that user.

    Deepika.

  • How does Media Manager handle Motion Projects within the Sequence being cop

    How does Media Manager handle Motion Projects within the Sequence being copied?
    I've highlighted my sequence, opened Media Manager, and copied it to another drive. When I open up the sequence in it's new project, the rendered Motion Project plays within my sequence but it won't let me go back into this Motion Project to make changes. I tried starting over. This time I highlighted the actual motion sequence and clip that is created within FCP after sending something to Motion and copied those to the new drive. When I went into the newly created 'media' folder and double clicked on the motion project it launched. It looked liked it was going to play but while my crops moves and borders were there, the filmed material is shown as a freeze frame for the duration of the motion project.
    I did this with and without 'including master clips within selection'. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Is there anyone who knows the answer to this? Thanks.

  • How does the iMac handle HD video editing?

    Tired of Window PCs, looking to buy an Apple System. I would like to do some video editing but want to make sure I get a powerful enough system from the start. How does the iMac handle HD video editing or should I look a better, faster computer?

    I have a mid 2011 iMac, 21 inch 4 GB RAM (the next to bottom iMac), Lion. I run Final Cut Express 4 with no difficulty (at least so far). It is certainly fast enough. My old G5, 7 years old, was also, and the iMac is faster.
    As I remember, I heard from someone on the Final Cut Express Discussions that some people might be having difficulty with FCE 4 on Lion, but I am a bit hazy. Its bigger brother, Final Cut Pro, is also available. I suggest that you post on the Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro Discussion sites. They have many reliable users.

    Moving the hosting alone, should not impact the seo. Changing the site host means changing the locations of file, so no impact. However, I found a video which will help to understand this

  • How does Time Machine Handle separate Boot and User Volumes?

    I recently installed an SSD and set it up as my boot drive, and I'm using another hard drive for my Home folder, if I ever run into a scenario that I need to restore my entire system, how will Time Machine handle it?
    Will it restore my system back to the drives that they came off of?, in other words will my Boot volume be restored back to the SSD and my Home folder back to the hard drive, or will it restore everything back on the one disk it asks me to select before I click restore?

    Michael Hoover wrote:
    Ok, so if I tried to access a backup from booting with the Snow Leopard install disk I won't be able to select which volume I need to restore?
    You would restore the OSX volume via the procedure in #14 of [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
    You would restore the data-only volume separately, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 in the FAQ.
    I guess I would be better off doing incremental backups with Carbon Copy Cloner on 2 partitions on the same volume.
    That would also take two separate operations to restore. (It would be a good idea to do such backups +*in addition+* to Time Machine backups, in case there's a problem with either disk drive or backup app, or a user error like erasing the wrong disk.)
    Your scenario is actually quite unlikely; you'd rarely need to restore both volumes at once. If the SSD fails, you'd only need to restore it; if the HD fails, you'd only need to restore that.
    It would get a bit more complicated if you get a new Mac, especially one with a single volume. That's one of the reasons it's a good idea to keep at least a minimal Admin account on the OSX volume.

  • Advice needed: what does your company log for SAP security role changes?

    My client has a situation where for many years, they never logged changes to SAP security roles.  By that I mean, they never logged even basic details, like who requested a change, tested it, approved it, and what changed!!  Sadly their ticketing system is terrible, completely free-form text and not even searchable.
    Does anyone here use Word docs, Excel sheets, or some other way to capture security role change details?   What details do you capture?  What about Projects, that involve dozens of changes and testing over several months?
    I plan to recommend, at least, they need to use a unique# (a ticket#, or whatever) for every change and update the same in PFCG role desc tab, plus in CTS description of transports... but what about other details, since they have a bad ticketing system?  I spoke with internal audit and change Mgmnt "manager" about it, and they are clueless and will not make recommendations.  It's really weird but they will get into big trouble eventually without any logs for security changes!

    Does anyone here use Word docs, Excel sheets, or some other way to capture security role change details? What details do you capture? What about Projects, that involve dozens of changes and testing over several months?
    I have questions:
    a) Do you want to make things straight
    b) Do you want to implement a versioning mechanism
    c) You cannot implement anything technical, but you`re asking about best "paper" practise?
    The mentioned scenarios can be well maintained if you use SAP GRC Solutions 10 (Business Role Management)
    Task Based, Approvals, Risk Analysis, SOD and role generation and maintenance in a structured way (Business Role Management). Workflow based, staged process with approvals.
    PFCG transaction usage will be curtailed to minimum if implemented fully.
    Do we really want to do things "outside" PFCG?
    @all:
    a) do you guys use custom approval workflows for roles?
    b) how tight your processes are? how much paperwork, workflow, tickets, requests and incidents you have to go through to change a role?
    c) who is a friend of GRC here, raise your hand
    Cheers Otto
    p.s.: very interesting discussion, I would like to learn something here about how it works out there in the wild

  • How does your shop administer your development team's environments?

    Please forgive if this is the wrong forum for this question. I think this forum makes the most sense for it, so here goes. I posted this in a MOS community but did not get hardly any feedback.
    I am curious how others out there are handling there developer installations. We have Oracle Forms and Reports version 11.1.1.6 64bit running on Solaris SPARC with WLS 10.3.6 for for production and test. We have around 15 developers who are currently running WLS 10.3.4 and Forms and Reports 11.1.1.4 on Windows 7 32 bit. At the time we made our conversion from 6i to 11g Oracle Forms and Reports were not supported on a 64 bit Windows platform. That has since changed.
    My issue is maintaining all of these separate installations for the developers. Because they are 32 bit there is the 4GB of memory constraint on the operating system. I have lots of trouble with these instances in large part due to the tight memory configuration. Just running WLS with two managed servers, one for forms and one for reports uses 75% of the available RAM.
    What I would like to do is have some sort of shared development environment so that I don't have maintain so many instances of WLS and Forms and Reports. I am curious how other customers are handling their developer installations. Is there a better way than loading a full blown WLS and Forms and reports server on each developers workstation? I would love to load a 64 bit Windows 2008 server with WLS and Forms and Reports, and give it Terminal server licenses to allow them to share one instance, but I don't see where Forms Builder and Reports Builder are supported on 64bit Windows server platforms, at least not 11gR1.
    My last resort is to add memory to their workstations and reload as 64 bit, but that does nothing to address my problem of having to maintain so many instances of WLS and Forms and Reports. I am prepared to go this route if I can not find a better solution. I also understand there is a developer edition now available where the forms and reports run inside the admin server reducing the footprint, but I am not sure which version this is included in.
    So again I ask how are you folks handling you Forms and Reports installations for your developers?
    Edited by: user11049532 on Jan 11, 2013 10:23 AM

    Right, I've had a look this morning and here are a few gaps in my explanation:
    Each developer will need their own environment set up on the development server.
    The first part of this is to have their own directory on the server which they may want to map to a drive on their PC. Let's call this directory DEV_HOME.
    The second part is to set up their environment on the Forms server part of weblogic, you can do this either through the Enterprise Manager interface or manually via the filesystem. If you're doing it via the file system the files you need to copy/alter will be in a directory similar to the one below:
    d:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain\config\fmwconfig\servers\WLS_FORMS\applications\formsapp_11.1.2\config
    First of all make a copy of the default.env file for each developer. You will need to change the FORMS_PATH variable in this file to include the developers DEV_HOME server directory. In our setup my environment file is called adrian.env.
    Next you will need to change the forms web configuration to include a section for each developer. If you're doing it manually the file is called formsweb.cfg and will be in the directory listed above. All you need to put in the section is a variable 'envFile' pointing to the environment file you've just created. The section for me in our formsweb.cfg is listed below:
    *[adrian]*
    *# System parameter: file setting environment variables for the Forms runtime processes*
    envFile=adrian.env
    You may need to restart the forms server to have these changes take effect if you've done the changes manually.
    The developers should store all their forms files that they are working on in their DEV_HOME directory on the development server. When they open a file in Forms Builder they should open it using the full network path (not via a mapped drive) e.g. \\DOMAIN\Server\d$\users\username\fmb\myform.fmb.
    In Forms Builder the Application Server URL needs to be set, it can be accessed by:
    Select Edit from the menu -> Preferences... -> Runtime -> Application Server URL
    This setting needs to be changed to:
    http://servername:portnumber/forms/frmservlet?config=adrian
    Now when a developer clicks the Run form icon the form should run on the development server, with no need to have weblogic running on their own pc.

  • Oracle Development Survey on Data Warehouses: How Does Yours Compare?

    At the start of most data warehouse projects, or even during a project, I am sure you as customers try to find answers to the following questions to help you plan and manage your environments:
    * Where can I find trend and comparison information to help me plan for future growth of my data warehouse?
    * How many cpu's do other customers use per terabyte?
    * How many partitions are typically used in large tables? How many indexes?
    * How much should I allocate for memory for buffer cache?
    * How does my warehouse compare to others of similar and larger scale?
    The data warehouse development team, here at Oracle, would like to help provide answers to these questions. However, to do this we need your help. If you have an existing data warehouse environment, we would like to obtain more technical information about your environment(s) by running a simple measurement script and returning the output files to us, here at Oracle. This will allow our developers to provide comprehensive documents that explain best practices and get a better understanding of which features our customers use the most. This will also allow you as Customers, to benchmark your environments compared to other customers’ environments.
    From a Company perspective we are also interested to get feedback on features we have added to the database, are these features used, how are they used etc. For example we are keen to understand:
    * Which initialization parameters are most frequently used at what values?
    * How many Oracle data warehouses run on RAC? on single nodes?
    * Is there a trend one-way or the other, especially as data volumes increase?
    * Does this change with newer releases of the database?
    All results from these scripts will be held confidential. No customers will be mentioned by name; only summaries and trends will be reported (e.g., “X percent of tables are partitioned and Y percent are indexed in data warehouses that are Z terabytes and larger in size.” or “X percent of Oracle9i and Y percent of Oracle10g data warehouses surveyed run RAC”). Results will be written up as a summarized report. Every participating customer will receive a copy of the report.
    Terabyte and larger DW are the primary interest, but information on any data warehouse environment is useful. We would like to have as many customers as possible submit results, ideally by the end of this week. However, this will be an on going process so regular feedback after this week is extremely useful.
    To help our developers and product management team please download and run the DW measurement script kit from OTN which is available from the following link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/db/10g/dw_survey_0206.html
    Please return the script outputs using the link shown on the above web page, see the FAQ section, or alternatively mail them directly to me: [email protected].

  • Read this to find out how to add/update/delete users and change/reset passwords programmatically

    WebLogic 7.0
    I have read a number of questions on how to do these but not many answers, so
    after figuring it all out, I thought I would post a message describing all these
    tasts (It would be great if BEA would start something like 'HOW-TOs for Linux'
    for WebLogic)
    -1. Imports required :
    import weblogic.jndi.Environment;
    import weblogic.management.MBeanHome;
    import weblogic.management.WebLogicObjectName;
    import weblogic.management.configuration.DomainMBean;
    import weblogic.management.configuration.SecurityConfigurationMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.RealmMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.authentication.AuthenticationProviderMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.authentication.GroupEditorMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.authentication.UserEditorMBean;
    import weblogic.management.security.authentication.UserPasswordEditorMBean;
    import weblogic.security.providers.authentication.*;
    0. Code to retrieve DefaultAuthenticatorMBean (this code is running inside WebLogic
    server - I have it inside EJB):
    DefaultAuthenticatorMBean authBean;
    Context ctx = new InitialContext();
    MBeanHome mbeanHome = (MBeanHome) ctx.lookup(MBeanHome.ADMIN_JNDI_NAME);
    //Find UserEditorMBean
    DomainMBean dmb = mbeanHome.getActiveDomain();
    SecurityConfigurationMBean scmb = dmb.getSecurityConfiguration();
    RealmMBean rmb = scmb.findDefaultRealm();
    AuthenticationProviderMBean[] providers = rmb.getAuthenticationProviders();
    for (int i = 0; i < providers.length; i++) {
    if (providers[i] instanceof DefaultAuthenticatorMBean) {
    authBean = (DefaultAuthenticatorMBean) providers;
    break;
    1. Create/Drop/Update users
    to perform these tasks, the user must be logged in into weblogic and be in Administrators
    group. Then, the code is as follows:
    create user: authBean.createUser(username, password, description);
    remove user: authBean.removeUser(username);
    change user's description: authBean.setUserDescription(username, newDescription);
    remove user from group: authBean.removeMemberFromGroup(groupname, username);
    add user to group: authBean.addMemberToGroup(groupname, username);
    2. Change other users' passwords (MUST BE ADMIN TO DO THIS - by Admin I mean be
    a member of Administrators group)
    authBean.resetUserPassword(username, newPassword);
    3. Change your own password:
    this is a bit trickier, because if you are not an admin, you can't change your
    own password!!!! This is a part that I personally don't understand - seems like
    a screw up on BEA's part. So, to allow users to change their own passwords, you
    must change security context in the middle of processing to that of Admin user
    and run this function as Admin user. Although a bit ackward, it's very easy to
    do. Suppose you have two EJBs - EJB A and EJB B. EJB A does normal processing
    for the user and always runs in logged in user's security context. Now, suppose
    you want to add a method to EJB A to change current password. The method may
    look like:
    public void changePassword(String logon, String oldpwd, String newpwd)
    throws some exceptions
    Now, there is no way to do it in EJB A, because for most users, it will run in
    a 'non-admin' security context. So, to get around it, you create another
    EJB - EJB B. This EJB has one method:
    public void changePassword(String logon, String oldpwd, String newpwd)
    throws some exceptions
    and one major difference - this EJB always runs in a secrity context of admin
    user. To get an EJB B running 'as admin user', all you have to do in EJB A is
    the following
    EJB A:
    public void changePassword(String logon, String oldpwd, String newpwd)
    Hashtable props = new Hashtable();
    props.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "wlmanager");
    props.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "password");
    // get context that with different credentials
    Context ctx = new InitialContext(props);
    EJBBHome home = (EJBBHome) ctx.lookup("EJBBHome");
    EJBBLocal adminEJB = home.create();
    adminEJB.changePassword(logon, oldpwd, newpwd);
    adminEJB.remove();
    of course, this poses a problem of hardcoding user id and password for admin user
    in your application - you can come up with your own ways to secure that.
    THAT's IT!!! You can use the method explained in part 3 to allow non-admin users
    to do pretty much everything, however for the sake of security, I would definetly
    vote against it and use part 3 to ONLY allow users change their own passwords
    Enjoy
    Andrey

    how to create a new record using a custom method?
    Is it possible to detect if a user has changed the value(s) of a record?
    I have set the edit page up (as described in the other post) and this works fine, but how could I tell if the user has changed something on that record. This is what I would like to do, but am not sure how to achieve it or whether it is possible....
    when the user puts a record in edit mode, take a copy of that record
    then when the user presses save or exit to navigate away from the edit page do a comparison between the original values and the potentially changed ones
    then depending on the outcome of the comparison call an appropriate action
    Thanks in advance for your help

    If you just want to know if the value has changed you can put it in a while loop and use shift registers to see if the value has changed.
