BUG IN JDEVELOPER !!! SQL QUERY
Hi JDev Forumers ;o)
I was wondering how I could accomplish to set my attribute labels and display the customized ones in a JSP page.
I would like to display employee numer instead of empno, how did you do this?
When i try to set the databse columns on entity level he's building the query wrongly in the view object it's a BIG BUG in JDeveloper!
He's building the SQL Query statement wrong:
This is my query statement of the employee view after i've set the database columns:
SELECT Emp.Employee Number AS EMPNO,
Emp.Employee Name AS ENAME,
Emp.JOB,
Emp.Manager AS MGR,
Emp.HIREDATE,
Emp.Salary AS SAL,
Emp.Commission AS COMM,
Emp.Department Number AS DEPTNO
FROM EMP Emp
it has to be the other way around!!
Nathalie Roman
Nathalie:
I didn't realize JDeveloper was a 'he'! I was able to change the attribute name from empno to Employee_Name in the attribute settings for the app module. I then built a BC4J application and when I run the JSP, the column is showing as 'Employee_Name'. Additionally, I was able to create a data tag in a JSP that refers to the attribute as such:
<jbo:ShowValue datasource="dsemp" dataitem="Employee_Number" ></jbo:ShowValue>
In both cases, the query is built correctly. Is this what you were trying to do? If so, please reply with your steps and I'll see if I can help further.
Thanks,
Lynn

Flash Chart Series : SQL Query Validation
Hello,
I probably found a bug on the SQL Query Validation for Flash Charts, if I have two subqueries, the validation fails:
SQL Query example:
SELECT NULL, a, b
FROM (SELECT c a, d b FROM
( SELECT 'first' c, 2 d FROM DUAL))
Error returned:
"Failed to parse SQL query:
ORA-06550: line 1, column 45: PLS-00428: an INTO clause is expected in this SELECT statement"
Is this problem known or is there just something that I do wrong ?
ChristopheYes it was that problem, but I still have an issue:
How do I set the Flash Chart to use a PL/SQL function in the first place ?
When I try to enter:
"return package.function;" in the Create Region Wizard, I get the following error:
Failed to parse SQL query:
return EXPERT.getFullListSQLByNC
ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement
Certain queries can only be executed when running your application, if your query appears syntactically correct, you can save your query without validation (see options below query source). -
Hi all,
I've been beating my head against this for a few days now, and while
there is a workaround, I haven't found out what's causing this to
happen.
Every other SQL query except for this one particular query works fine
and returns a scrollable result set. That one query on the other hand,
returns a non-scrollable result set.
Here's the code which is calling the query:
sqlStatement = getSQLFromFile();
debug("SQL statment = " + sqlStatement);
stmt = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
debug(sqlStatement);
rst = stmt.executeQuery(sqlStatement);
debug("The type is " + rst.getType());
rst.last();
For most queries, the output is "The type is 1004" - which means the
resultset is scrollable - as it should be.
For one particular query, the output is "The type is 1003" which means
that the result set is of type forward-only.
Of course, calling rst.last() fails in the second case.
If the difference between the queries was drastic, I might have
something to go on. I've tested this out with different size queries,
but the switch between having the type incorrectly changed is the
deletion of a 0x0a 0x0d on the first line.
I.E. this means the failing query reads :
"select
from........."
and the query which works reads
"select *
from........."
I've looked at the failing query in it's binary format, and that's the
only difference I can discern.
To further confuse things, there are other queries which have a
similar format - and which work.
I've read about a bug in Weblogic 5.1 SP9 which ignores the setting of
the Statement to return a ResultSet with a scrollable cursor, and
while this seems to be a bug, it doesn't seem the same bug at all -
besides, I'm using Weblogic 6.0 with SP1 on a W2K system.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this? I'm

You don't say what DBMS and what JDBC driver you're using for the pool.
That is likely to be the issue. Let me know.

Bug with readonly view (through sql query)
HI , I'm using JDEV11.1.1.2
I found the following problem which I consider a bug:
When you create a readonly view object based on sql query the first attribute gets type: VARCHAR2(255) although it is VARCHAR2(10) in the database. All other attributes get the correct type and length only the first one is not correct.
Can you confirm this behavior to be a bug ?
Thanks
agruevHi,
of other string attributes show the correct length then this indeed sounds like a bug. However, a bug is a bug when it is getting filed.

Form on a SQL Query - doesn't work with SELECT * - bug or feature ?
When I do this,
Create Page -> Page with Component -> Form -> Form on a SQL Query -> SELECT * FROM EMP
I do not get any items displayed and it creates a simple HTML region / page. Do we have to necessarily specify the column names ?
Iam looking at a way to see if any addition of columns in the table does not involve IT intervention in recreating the form.
When we try to create with Form on a SQL Query, then shouldn't it be similar to the Report where the same thing works, if I give SELECT function_returning_columns() from DUAL even then the same thing happens where it creates an ITEM called functions_returning_columns() it creates HTML region
I asked a related question with no answer :-( in
Dynamic Creation of Items in Runtime through Application UIHi Marc,
Thanks. I just tried something like this. Taking the EMP table example, (it doesn't matter which table), I created a region based on a Pl/Sql function returning SQL query
( I selected the vertical report template including nulls to display it like a form ) :
DECLARE
v_sql VARCHAR2(3000) ;
mn_idx NUMBER := 1 ;
BEGIN
v_sql := 'SELECT ' ;
FOR recs IN (SELECT * FROM ALL_TAB_COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'EMP' ORDER BY COLUMN_ID)
LOOP
v_sql := v_sql || 'HTMLDB_ITEM.TEXT(' || mn_idx || ',' ||
recs.column_name || ') ' || recs.column_name || ', ' ;
mn_idx := mn_idx + 1 ;
END LOOP ;
v_sql := SUBSTR(v_sql, 1, LENGTH(v_sql) -2) ;
v_sql := v_sql || ' FROM EMP WHERE EMPNO = 7369 ORDER BY 1 ' ;
RETURN v_sql ;
END ;
This allowed me to do my updates etc.., Then I created a button called 'Apply' and a process called 'update_changes' on button click and defined this:
DECLARE
v_sql varchar2(1000) ;
mn_ctr NUMBER := 1 ;
BEGIN
v_sql := 'BEGIN UPDATE EMP SET ' ;
FOR recs IN (select COLUMN_ID, COLUMN_NAME, DATA_TYPE
from all_tab_columns where table_name = 'EMP'
ORDER BY COLUMN_ID) loop
-- Make changes here if required- this is assuming 9 columns --
v_sql := v_sql || recs.column_name || ' = HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F0' || mn_ctr || '(1),' ;
mn_ctr := mn_ctr + 1;
end loop ;
v_sql := substr(v_sql, 1, length(v_sql) - 1) ;
v_sql := v_sql || ' WHERE EMPNO = 7369; END ;' ;
execute immediate (v_sql) ;
END ;
Since this is for example, I didn't include code for Checksum and hardcoded empno = condition and have provision for 9 columns. I made some changes and tried saving it and I was able to do it.
I altered the table to add a column / drop a column and when I relogin, Iam able to see the changes.
Can you tell me if there could be any drawbacks in this approach ?. -

If you already have an application that you need some help with, you can import/install it into your workspace on apex.oracle.com. This makes it easy to demonstrate problems to others who might be able to help.
Sometimes it will be necessary for you to create developer accounts in your workspace in order for others to use your Application Builder. You can post usernames/passwords here or you can convey those privately to those offering their services. In either case, you'd want to remove or disable those accounts as soon as the problem is resolved. I just need to know your workspace name and application ID.

VO SQL Query issue... JHeadstart...
Hi,
I am presently using JHeadStart 10.1.3.3.81 in order to convert an Oracle Form FMB via an XML format to an ADF-JSF application as follows:-
1) Using the iff2xml90 utility provided with the Oracle designer converted the Oracle Form FMB to an XML file.
2) Using Jdeveloper(with JHeadstart 10.1.3.3.81) converted the XML file generated in STEP 1 above into a J2EE ADF-JSF project.
3) One of the VO's generated in the project has the following query:-
SELECT INITMV.INSTALLATION_ID,
INITMV.FACILITY_ID,
INITMV.DI_SHORT_NAME
FROM CP_INSTALLATIONS_ALL INITMV
WHERE ( CPPRI.ORG_ID in(select org_id from cp_system_controls ) and CPPRI.DELIVERY_LOCATION_NUMBER=nvl(:b_LOC_LOCATION_NUMBER,CPPRI.DELIVERY_LOCATION_NUMBER) and
(:b_LOC_CATEGORY_ID is null or CPPRI.INVENTORY_ITEM_ID in (select inventory_item_id from di_mtl_item_categories_v where category_id=:b_LOC_CATEGORY_ID)) and exists (select 1
from DI_DISTRIBUTION_PLANS_V dis where trunc(dis.plan_date)=trunc(sysdate) and CPPRI.facility_id=dis.facility_id and CPPRI.installation_id=dis.installation_id and
CPPRI.organization_id=dis.organization_id and CPPRI.inventory_item_id=dis.inventory_item_id and (dis.midcycle_call_flag='Y' or (CPPRI.call_days is not null and trunc
(dis.last_delivery_date+CPPRI.call_days)<=trunc(sysdate)))) ) ORDER BY DI_SHORT_NAME
As can be seen from the above query, the CPPRI reference does not point to any db table/view/synonym. Actually the CPPRI reference should be pointing to the CP_INSTALLATIONS_ALL table.
4) When I checked the XML file for the datablock to which this query belongs, I found the following:-
<Block Name="INITMV" ScrollbarLength="1200" DeleteAllowed="false" OrderByClause="order by DI_SHORT_NAME" WhereClause="where (
CPPRI.ORG_ID in(select org_id from cp_system_controls )
and CPPRI.DELIVERY_LOCATION_NUMBER=nvl(:LOC.LOCATION_NUMBER,CPPRI.DELIVERY_LOCATION_NUMBER)
and (:LOC.CATEGORY_ID is null or CPPRI.INVENTORY_ITEM_ID in (select inventory_item_id from di_mtl_item_categories_v
where category_id=:LOC.CATEGORY_ID))
and exists (select 1
from DI_DISTRIBUTION_PLANS_V dis
where trunc(dis.plan_date)=trunc(sysdate)
and CPPRI.facility_id=dis.facility_id
and CPPRI.installation_id=dis.installation_id
and CPPRI.organization_id=dis.organization_id
and CPPRI.inventory_item_id=dis.inventory_item_id
and (dis.midcycle_call_flag='Y'
or
(CPPRI.call_days is not null and trunc(dis.last_delivery_date+CPPRI.call_days)<=trunc(sysdate))))
)" Alias="CPPRI" UpdateAllowed="false" NextNavigationBlockName="INSHST" InsertAllowed="false" DMLDataName="CP_INSTALLATIONS_ALL" ParentModuleType="25" ScrollbarYPosition="984" ScrollbarTabPageName="" QueryDataSourceName="CP_INSTALLATIONS_ALL" ParentType="3" RecordsBufferedCount="9" ParentName="CGSO$BLOCK_MR" DMLReturnValue="true" ParentFilename="aqmolb65.olb" PreviousNavigationBlockName="LOC" ParentModule="AQMOLB65" PersistentClientInfoLength="41" EnforcedPrimaryKey="true" RecordsDisplayCount="6" ScrollbarXPosition="6700" DirtyInfo="false" ScrollbarCanvasName="CG$PAGE_1">
I am not sure whether the above is at all a bug or whether the Oracle Form from which the sql query was generated in itself had a glitch in the first place(actually it works fine on the Oracle Forms side). If this is a bug, does this belong to the FMB to XML conversion or from the XML to J2EE conversion.

Can we use session variables in BI publisher's Data Model SQL Query?
Hi Experts,
We need to implement Data level security in BI Publisher 11g.
In OBIEE we do so by using session variables, so just wanted to ask if we can use the same session variables in BI Publisher as well
ie can we include the where clause in the Data Models SQL Query like
Where ORG_ID = @{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.INV_ORG']}
Let me know your views on this.
PS: We are implementing EBS r12 security in BI Publisher.

Problem with SQL query region source containing OLAP clauses
Hi team,
I believe I found a bug when HTMLDB validates the SQL Query in a report region.
My query includes an ORDER BY clause within a windowing function and HTMLDB refuses to accept the source owing to the presence of the ORDER BY and the column heading sort preference.
Clearly the order-by in a window function has little to do with the column heading sort, but this error prevents me from updating the conditional display item in the page definition.
Note also that the page was imported smoothly from the 1.5 version, so probably the region source is not checked at that time, but only when you update it "manually".
So, in the end, if I don't change anything the page works because the sql query is assumed to be correct but unfortunately I need to change the condition and I cannot.
The problem shows up in page 126 of app 21670, SQL query region.
Bye,
Flavio
PS: may be I can work around this by using the pl/sql function returning the sql query.Flavio,
We're aware of this problem. For now, your workaround is described in this thread:

ORA-01006 during report from SQL Query
We are running WebDB 2.2 against a 7.3.4.4 database. I have a report created from a SQL query which references 4 bind variables. During execution I receive the following, Failed to bind - :periodyr| |' with
ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist.
Anyone have any idea what causes this error, could it be because I reference a bind variable (:periodyr) more than once in the query? Is there a work around?
I have included the where clause as reference:
WHERE gcc.code_combination_id = gb.code_combination_id
AND gb.code_combination_id = gjl.code_combination_id
AND gjl.je_header_id = gjh.je_header_id
AND gb.budget_version_id =

from gl.gl_budget_versions
where budget_name = :periodyr| |' OPERATING')
AND gjh.actual_flag = 'B'
AND gb.actual_flag = 'B'
AND gb.period_name = gjl.period_name
AND gb.period_year = nvl(:periodyr,gb.period_year)
and gcc.segment2 = nvl(:cstctr,gcc.segment2)
and ffvobj.attribute10 = nvl(:ctrlgrp,ffvobj.attribute10)
and gcc.segment3 = nvl(:objcode,gcc.segment3)
Thanks
MarkI think there is a bug in the procedure which picks up the bind variables from a SQL.
Workground: put a space between variable :periodyr and operator | | as:
where budget_name = :periodyr | |' OPERATING')
Hope this will work

I don't know if I should be posting this in this Forum or the BI Publisher forum, so I am posting in BOTH forums..
I love APEX, let me say that first.. And appreciate the support offered here by the group, but am running int a confusing issue when BI Publisher tries to build a report from the above type APEX report..
Here is my dilemma:
I have a number of reports that are part of a Oracle package. They return an SQL Query back to a reports region on a page. I am having to deal with the column names returned are col01, col02..
The issue I have is, when building the Application Level query to download the XML sample from in building RTF layouts in Word, you can not use this code, you MUST use a standard SQL Select.
I have taken the sql from the function returning sql, and copied into the application query, supplying the required data values for bind variables being used in the query.
An XML file is produced, and I use this to build the RTF format file that I load back into APEX and try to use it for the PDF rendering of the report. I can view the output as a PDF in the Word add on, but when I try using it with the report, it is returning an empty PDF file.
Can anyone tell me what error log files on the bi publisher side I can look at to see what error is happening?
Thank you,
Tony Miller

Tony MillerHi,
1/ first check you are passing the bind variables and
appropriate values in the call to your report - if
the query returns no data then you get an empty page
So if your query takes :P10_USERNAME variable then
pass it to the report in the URL
f?p=&APP_ID.:0:&SESSION.:PRINT_REPORT=YOUR_REP_QUERY_N
AME:::P10_USERNAME:MYUSER
2/ try to use the Default layout first to check your
report query really returns the data when called
3/ if you defined a header in your rtf template check
there is no & (ampersand) - if using & in the header
and preview the template from word it displays data
OK, but if you use this template in the report query
it fails to render the data (bug in Apex-> Bi
Publisher integration maybe?)
4/ If using the table in the rtf template check its
width does not overflow the page margins - there is a
problem with pdf export
5/ check
/oc4j/j2ee/home/application-deployments/xmlpserver/app
lication.log forthe information on BI Publisher runs
RadoIssue was in the APEX page having issues.. I recoded a new page and am able to generate BI Publisher based PDF files..
Thank you,

Passing an argument in the SQL Query of a View Object
Hi,
It is possible that this question has been asked before, however I have searched for a half an hour in the forums and couldn't find a solution.
I am also new to using JDeveloper and ADF. Here's the situation:
I am developing an application that doesn't have to do anything else then displaying data from a database. Pretty straightforward actually.
Now I have made a vew pages with several collapsible panels (af:showDetailHeader) and have setup the datasources (or so I thought).
All that remains is:
- drag & drop a view object, from the application module that I created, onto the collabsible panels, so a child element gets created which displays data from the database.
- hack the layout so it looks like I want it to.
The problem that I have is the following:
I am using a 'User'-class that contains values I need when quering the database.
That User-object is part of a user-session.
What I want, for example, is to use the 'getPersonId()' function of that User-object and pass the argument to a SQL-query of a certain view-object.
The query would become something like:
'SELECT * FROM people WHERE people.personId = :someNumber'.
Now I've read some stuff about variable binding, which is complemented by something like (backing bean code):
getDBTransaction().getRootApplicationModule().getACertainViewObject().setWhereClauseParameter(1, user.getPersonId());
The examples I have found that might match my wishes are not using business components, but EJB's. I am having difficulty with understanding the 'how'-part of variable binding.
Also, I do not know enough of ADF to be able to create a situation like:
'User loads page, collapsible panel 1 is fully shown, the others are undisclosed.'
(meaning, that for panel1 a query has been executed.)
'User clicks on collapsible panel 2 which triggers a backingbean that somehow retrieves data from a view object'.
I would appreciate any help that somebody can give.
If it is not too much of a problem, please provide code snippets in case you have a solution. I am new to ADF :(.
-edit
I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 in case that is of any importance.

Hugo BoogHello Stijn,
I didn't think about a referenced bean rule in the faces-config.
I added it right away and I am now able to set parameters of a View-object, not using a page button and before the page loads. You made my day!
In case anyone ever reads this post again, the summary of how to generate a table based on a View-object using dynamic parameters.:
1a: Go to faces-config.xml -> Overview tab'
1b: Go to the menuitem "Referenced Beans"
1c: Click on 'new' and select the existing bean you want to access data from and input a name. In this example I use name="user"
2: Create a View-object using the wizard.
2a: Specify the query you want in the menuitem 'SQL Statement'.
Add the 'parameters' you want to. You will have something like:
"SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE :someArgument".
- hint: if you want the result to become something like:
"SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE '%someArgument%'" then you have to add the '%'-characters in your code itself (read: someClass.setParameter("%" + someArgument);).
2b: In the menuitem 'Bind Variables' you have to add the variables you are referring to in the query. If you look at the query in 2a, then you have to add a variable with name "someArgument".
2c: Add the View-object to a Application Module (create one if nessecairy).
3a: Open a .jsp(x) file. Drag the View-object created in step 2 from the 'Data Controls'-pane to the page.
3b: Click on the '+' of the View-object in the 'Data Controls'-pane and open 'Operations' and drag 'ExecuteWithParams' to your page as a button.
3c: We do not want to use a button, the action has to be executed immediatly. So In the page source remove the lines that were created after dropping 'ExecuteWithParams'.
3d: Right-click on the page and select "Go to Page Definition".
3e: Go to the action id that is called 'ExecuteWithParams#', where # is a number.
Change the id to something useful.
3f: Change the NDValue so it corresponds with the value you want.
Example:
<action id="getAddressData" IterBinding="AddressesView1Iterator"
InstanceName="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl.AddressView1"
DataControl="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl" RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="95">
<NamedData NDName="someArgument" NDType="java.lang.String"
NDValue="#{user.personId}"/>
</action>
Note: It is possible to use the value of a Backing Bean in NDValue.
Note 2: user is the bean I referred to in the faces-config.xml!
3g: Under the executables item, add an 'invokeAction' to pass the parameter to the View-object before your JSP-file loads:
<executables>
<invokeAction Binds="getAddressData"
id="loadAddressDataOfPersonIdInSession"
Refresh="prepareModel"/>
Thank Stijn Haus for this :)
