Bug in /usr/lib/64/libc.so.1:strncmp
Hi,
i have encountered a bug in the 64-bit libc. strncmp seems to compare too many bytes in some cases.
(Sample source code included at end). I have the feeling that this is not the right forum to post it, but
where else? I found no solution in the patches collection.
My system is (uname -a): SunOS paloalto 5.8 Generic_108528-16 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraAX-MP
Can anybody check if this happens in SunOS 5.9, too?
Greetings - Rasmus
Sample code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <sys/mman.h>
#define LEN 8
int main ()
char p1, p2;
p1 = mmap (0, getpagesize () * 2, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE,
MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANON, -1, 0); /* get 2 pages */
p2 = p1 + getpagesize (); /* second page */
memset (p1, 0, getpagesize () * 2); memset (p2 - LEN, 'a', LEN); /* string at end of page 1 */
mprotect (p2, getpagesize (), 0); /* disallow read for page 2 (end of string) */
/* compare string (last LEN bytes of page 1) with itself->SEGV; memcmp works */
printf ("strncmp: %d\n", strncmp (p2 - LEN, p2 - LEN, LEN));
cell wrote:I read some where that the conflict comes when if you install with the script from nvidia.com and then reverse back to the driver from the repository.
Same happened to me.
I never installed anything manually, and I also had that issue.
So the explanation given in the link I gave above is more probable, at least in my case.
Otherwise, simply removing the conflicting file is in my opinion the easiest and safest way.

Hi
Using Oracle 10.2 , HP-UX 11.23, ECC 6.0 SR3. I am running sapinst with homogeneous system copy option. Database already restored and opened properly. Getting error during backup/restore step -creating the password file. Looking at the sapinst logs it says /usr/lib/hpux64/dld.so: Unable to find library 'libclntsh.so.10.1'
The Library Paths defined are below:
For user qasadm
DIR_LIBRARY=/usr/sap/QAS/SYS/exe/run
SHLIB_PATH=/usr/sap/QAS/SYS/exe/run:/oracle/client/10x_64/instantclient
For oraqas
DIR_LIBRARY=/usr/sap/QAS/SYS/exe/run
SHLIB_PATH=/usr/sap/QAS/SYS/exe/run:/oracle/QAS/102_64/lib
I have checked OSS Note 819829. Verified the path /oracle/client/10x_64/
all the files look good. The permissions and ownership are all correct under /oracle
The sapinst is supposed to install the client.

Any idea experts why it cant find the library?Thanks. Actually its the other way round. The 10.2.0.5 you see is the Client version. The database is at 10.2.0.2. But thats not an issue. This is resolved now. Issue was sapinst was running with root and trying to start the listener and create the password file which I could do successfully manually with oraSID but not with root. Not sure why sapinst did not switch to orasid to do that
Had to do two things:
1) Set the correct environment variables for root (it was already good for sidadm and orasid bu must be done for root as well)
2) Recreate the links (with ln -fs) for an older installation we had that was recently uninstalled. -
Hi,
I'm struggle. Any suggestion?

In short, I found the missing file (libc.so) and I tried to create a simbolic link to it in the path rpm was asking (/usr/lib). In my system I found 2 (32 and 64 version). I tried both, I mean to link /usr/lib/libc.so to 64 version (as you can see in the console). It did not work. Then I did rm and ln -s to the 32 version of it but same result.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.
FelipeYou have probably compat-glibc installed but your are missing glibc-devel package, which contains object files for development using standard C libraries.
I'm haven't tried it under RHEL, but it should work to setup the Oracle public yum repository, which will allow you to use e.g. yum install oracle-validated. This method will automatically fetch dependent packages. More info at: http://public-yum.oracle.com/ -

Edited by: bernieKEN on Oct 27, 2011 4:18 AM.. also the reason to these mounts is just that there are multiple c-libraries, this way the kernel can mount the one which suits the hardware the most onto /lib/libc.so.1

Thanks, regardsRoman,
how can you know that it is about AIX? The OP didn't tell us.
Besides that, I agree that different OS versions may be the root cause.

Solaris 8 : core in /usr/lib/libssasnmp.so.1
Hello,
I have a core file when i use the trap_send_with_more_para() function to send a ColdStart trap in Solaris 8 (with or without the last SNMP patch (108869-18)) with SEA 1.0.3..
I have the same problem in Solaris 7 (SEA 1.0.3) when i add the 107709-20 patch.
I have no problem in Solaris 7 without the previous patch....
Thanks for your help.....
The gdb result is :
Core was generated by `snmpcd -s -d 0 -p 33045'.

Should arch symlink /usr/lib64 to /usr/lib?
After spending two hours debugging a bloody java applet accessing a smart card trough pcsclite (Buypass used for different services in Norway, including government services) it turns out it failed because it ONLY looked for 64bit libs in /usr/lib64. As arch stores 64bit libs in plain old /usr/lib on a 64bit system, this obivously failed. Two hours someone stole from me by doing a sloppy job! Argh!. And I should have been in bed at least one and a half hour ago too.
I know Debian does this symlinking, and as there apparently are idiots out there who do stuff like above, making such a symlink could save someone some major hassle. I guess it's not to easy for developers of such apps either, as you have to avoid loading libs from /usr/lib before looking for them in /usr/lib64, or else you will get a 32bit lib on Fedora/RedHat and Suse, if both 32bit libs and 64bit ones are installed. Of course you should look for the lib in /usr/lib if you don't find something in /usr/li64, but I guess some don't. Grrrr.
As there really are no agreed "best pracitce" for where libs of different arch should go (that I could find anyway), such a symlink makes sense to me.Inxsible wrote:
So If I am reading this correctly, you are saying that now that you have found a solution to do what you need, you do not want to spend time to file a bug report? That's a pretty selfish thing to do.
You want the developers to create symlinks for you by default, but you are not willing to even report something like that on the bug tracker.
You misunderstand me. tomk said my concern for "someone" having problems might be because I was this "someone". While he has a point (I wouldn't have brought this up if it hadn't caused me problems - wouldnt even know about it), it was not to solve my own problem I started this thread - my problem was already fixed. That was what I meant. Fixing this now would not benefit me, and as I solved my problem before starting this thread, my benefit was not my goal. As soon as i realized I could fix this with a symlink, I fixed it with a symlink. And after happily using my smartcard in that stupid java applet, then I started this thread.
While I certainly could post a bug report, I was not really sure if this was a bug. And based on the response I got here, it seemed it wasn't, and that people think those requiring a symlink should make their own.
The sidenote about people answering to the thread without reading my posts was made because people obviously missed the part of this being about a java applet, and therefore is not something in some arch TU messed up while packaging. No biggie, though.
After reading R00kies post, I actually DID read about FHS, and it appears to me that the AMD64-arch SHOULD in deed have their libs in lib64, according to the standard
So i guess a bug report is in order after all, so the devs atleast can have a look on it. But not until after school and work tomorrow.
ngoonee: By the way, this would not preclude a mulilib system, this is how all the multilib distros I know of do this. -

Please suggest why am I getting that error. It seems to be missing GCC_4.2.0 but not sure what I should do.

Symbol lookup error /usr/lib/libXi.so.6
Dear All,
After a recent update, I have problems with libXi. I get the following error while trying to plot something with gnuplot:
gnuplot: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXi.so.6: undefined symbol: XESetWireToEventCookie.
I get a similar error when trying to run a java application:
java: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXi.so.6: undefined symbol: XESetWireToEventCookie
Something looks broken. I tried downgrading libXi to the previous version 1.3.2-1:
pacman -U libxi-1.3.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
but that didn't help. I'm now back on version 1.4.0-1
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is my first post to this forum so bare with me. I've been a gentoo user for quite sometime but I'm trying a binary distro for obvious reasons.
This also looks like a bug for I haven't done anything strange. This is a newish installation and all I do every week or so is pacman -Syu as suggested in the beginner handbook. I'm surprised no one else has posted this problem... is it really just me?. There are some old post on this issue but there was no solution there other than downgrading which I have already tried.
I've just realized that not even okular works!!! Why am I being punished?
okular: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXi.so.6: undefined symbol: XESetWireToEventCookie
Thanks.
Last edited by riczan (2010-12-08 21:40:29)hey,
I've installed quartus II today too and ran into similiar conflicts. I build version 1.2.1 of libxi again as suggested by davidgurvich, but "tricked out" pacman to avoid rebuilding the whole xorg packages, which depend on libxi>=1.3:
pkgname=libxi
pkgver=1.3
pkgrel=2
realver=1.2.1
pkgdesc="X11 Input extension library"
arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
url="http://xorg.freedesktop.org"
depends=('libxext>=1.1' 'inputproto>=2.0')
makedepends=('pkgconfig')
options=(!libtool force)
license=('custom')
source=(${url}/releases/individual/lib/libXi-${realver}.tar.bz2)
md5sums=('cfb36307e8e7ffafe40848dba24e0b11')
build() {
cd "${srcdir}/libXi-${realver}"
./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --disable-static || return 1
make || return 1
make DESTDIR="${pkgdir}" install || return 1
install -m755 -d "${pkgdir}/usr/share/licenses/${pkgname}"
install -m644 COPYING "${pkgdir}/usr/share/licenses/${pkgname}/" || return 1
works for me... however, this is a dirty solution. maybe someone provide a better fix. -
I am trying to run the firefox from firefox-4.0.tar.bz2 on CentOS 5.6 and get the error message,
./firefox-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by firefox/libxul.so)
Firefox does not start.
I thought having a copy of the library in the local directory would help, so I made a link:
ln -s /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.8 libstdc++.so.6
then I got the error message,
./firefox-bin: /firefox/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by firefox/libxul.so)
My version of glibc is:
$ rpm -q glibc
glibc-2.5-58.el5_6.2
glibc-2.5-58.el5_6.2Yes, that led to my solution. There was a lot of noise in the two links, but some solid signal. Ths solution came from dietux's reference in /questions/777306 Bug 621704 to http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2075033 :
1. Download the Fedora 9 package of libstdc++-4.3.0-8.i386.rpm from http://archives.fedoraproject.org/pub/archive/fedora/linux/releases/9/Fedora/i386/os/Packages/libstdc++-4.3.0-8.i386.rpm .
2. Unpack the package in your Firefox 4 directory with relative paths (does not require super user permissions):
[firefox]$ rpm2cpio libstdc++-4.3.0-8.i386.rpm | cpio -i --make-directories
3. Move the library and its link to the Firefox 4 directory:
[firefox]$ mv usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6* .
[NOTE: this is a RELATIVE path -- it has no leading slash.]
4. Run Firefox 4:
./firefox
Thank you for your help!
Craig
P.S. I do agree with the posters in [[https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621704| Bug 621704]] that CentOS 5.x is NOT obsolete. The whole point of CentOS (and RHEL) is that it will be around for awhile. I left Fedora for CentOS because it changed too much. -

All the libraries are dynamic, is this a patch problem ?You probably need to get the current SUNWlibC and Solaris thread library patches for the version of Solaris you are using.

/usr/lib/acct/fwtmp trouble
While trying to trim my wmtpx file I found what I think is a bug.
I used:
/usr/lib/acct/fwtmp < /var/adm/wmtpx > /var/tmp/wtmp.ascii
/usr/bin/tail -500 /var/tmp/wmtp.ascii > /var/tmp/wtmpx-last500
/usr/lib/acct/fwtmp -ic </var/tmp/wtmpx-last500 >/var/tmp/wtmpx
When I now use the who /var/tmp/wtmpx command I get:
who: Error --- entry has ut_type of 14898
when maximim is 9
The value 14898 varies but is repeated over and over.
The original /var/adm/wtmpx file was not corrupt and had displayed no errors with the who command. Unless I am reading the fwtmp manual page incorrectly this command should allow me to trim my wmtpx file to the last 500 entries.
I am working on an Ultra 5 running Solaris 8 for this test, but this happens on most all of our Solaris systems.
I really do not want to just zero out the wtmpx file, and start over.
Any suggestions??I haven't really taken a deep look at your problem, but i know that there where plenty of bugs in fwtmp in the Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 releases, which where fixed by patches. So ensure that you have the latest patches installed.
The SPARC patches are, for Solaris 9:
117473-01
For Solaris 8:
116943-02

I'm pretty sure Arch didn't use faac2 , i can hack it by recompiling FFMPEG with faac2 but this is a small problem, arch should just go and fix this little annoy bug.
After a ton of searching online I found that in the /usr/lib directory is a problematic libz.so.1. In my case I have a symbolic link to libz.so.1.2.3.4. The sym link seemed correct to me, but I deleted the sym link and linked it again which fixed the problem. mysql-query-browser works again from the CLI. It doesn't work from the start menu.
I have to do this everytime I restart my computer and want t ouse mysql-query-browser. Not sure why and it's annoying, but it's a workaround. -
