All the libraries are dynamic, is this a patch problem ?

You probably need to get the current SUNWlibC and Solaris thread library patches for the version of Solaris you are using.

  • Is there an way to get the value of a local string variable from core dump?

    Hi All,
    Please help me on this, How to extract the string variable content from the core file.
    During core file analysis using dbx, it puts value as CLASS against string local variables.
    But I need to know the exact value during the core dump.
    I'm able to print other than string variables.
    Is this possbile using dbx or is there any other tool can help me on this.
    Thanks in advance, please find the code details below:

    I got another instance of core dump in same m/c
    Edited by: chittusun on Nov 5, 2008 5:19 AM

  • Hotspot core dumping during JVM garbage collection ?

    We have an application which calls a 3rd party supplied server API which has recently been upgraded to use Java 1.5
    We are getting the following error reported by our client application. The application is also now running Java 1.5 but references many classes in jar files which would have quite old code in.
    The supplier of the API has stated that the problem requires us to recompile all our jar files using v 1.5 ( including things like jconnect and jms ?!?!? ). This sounds like a bit of a cop-out to me, not to mention being impossible since we don't have the source for things like jconnect.
    I suspect that there is a garbage collection problem at the bottom of all this, but I'm not sure how I can "prove" this, nor do I currently have any real clue as to how to fix any GC problem that may exist.
    The application is supposed to wait for a message on a MQSeries queue and then transforms it via Xalan XSLT and sends it to a Server application. I've tried playing around with heap sizes etc but that just seems to make it worse. If I leave it at the settings that the previous version used then the client at least manages to process a couple of messages before core dumping. There doesn't seem to be a consistent trigger event to cause the core dump ( it's not a message arriving on a queue for example ) but it does seem to be fairly consistent timewise, i.e. after
    Any ideas gratefully accepted.
    Here's a logfile excerpt from my applications showing the Hotspot error message :

    The very first suggestion I have is to move your VM to a more recent update of 1.5.0.
    It looks like you are crashing with 5.0u3, and I'm pretty sure 5.0u16 is available. You
    don't want to waste your time chasing a bug that's already been fixed.

  • Core dump using OCI HP 32 bit package

    Does any one successfully run OCI application on HP using 32 bit libraries?
    I got core dump at the end of running application, around desctruction part. Following are the statement I got from GDB:
    #0 0xc005db14 in pthread_mutex_destroy+0x18 () from /usr/lib/libpthread.1
    #1 0xc021efd8 in __thread_mutex_free+0x40 () from /usr/lib/libc.2
    #2 0xc0abb4b8 in HPMutexWrapper::~HPMutexWrapper+0x48 () from /usr/lib/libstd_v2.2

    #4 0xccd0 in ociWrapper::cursor::~cursor (this=0x7bff1538, #free=2) at /vobs/Guru2/IDCE/ociWrapper/ociWrapper.cpp:220
    #5 0x65a8 in main () at /vobs/Guru2/Oracle/HP-UX/sdk/demo/oci_wrapper_insert.cpp:73
    If I build my application in 64 bit using OCI 64 bit package, no problem at all. But I have to make my application work in 32 bit so that I can not simply switch to 64 bit.
    Please give me some help. Thanks.

    I got the problem solved myself. The core dump happens when use OCI 32 bit libraries with STL string. It cores at destroying the STL string.
    Add the option "-mt" to the compile command, the problem will go away.

    In Frame 15, there is a call to tpcall() as follows:-
    tpcall((char *)l_service,

                   l_response_buf,

                   mtux_flags(l_flags))
    From  there the tuxedo code gets called and Signal 10 is raised in Frame 7, inside Foccur32(). Since we do not have the code for Foccur32.c,
    it is difficult for us to determine which address data structure passed as input parameter to tpcall() is misaligned or is it some misaligned pointer in Foccur32() code.
    It would be helpful, if someone can guide as to which structure needs to be examined for possible misalignment.
    Can someone please let me know what can be done to know whether code causing issue at line no. 87 in Foccut32() comes from the parameters passed to tpcall()?
    I am not sure whether it is due to the parameters we pass or due to some internal data structure used by Foccur32().

    Hi,
    From a quick look at the code in affinity.c I'm guessing that you have a memory corruption problem.  The fault is occurring while trying to access the Tuxedo META TCM, a header that Tuxedo associates with the request.  If you can create a simple reproducer I would suggest opening a support request and provide the reproducer.
    As always, if this is a new problem, what's changed in your environment or application?  Also what is the environment/configuration of your Tuxedo application?

    Solution : sort of.
    The pointer I got from GetObjectArrayElement, for whatever reason, is NULL. So passing it along caused a coredump...
    I spent a lot of time of that stupid mistake, and I guess I am going to spend even more on understanding WHY it is NULL, now...
    Sincerely,
    JG

  • Core dump while running jmf application

    I am running a bit customised version of Transcode & Concat from JMF samples as a single application on Solaris 10.
    I got core dump while running the application.
    Any clue ?

    Hello captfoss!
    The Linux video drivers are buggy. If you give them video they don't like, they crash.You seem to repeat this statement quite often......but I don't think s/he is using Linux. S/He is using Solaris10 !!!
    I don't know if Linux and Solaris are same OS.............
    Thanks! And please don't take it as a comment! :-)

  • Indecipherable core dump on Solaris x86_64

    On a 64-bit Solaris x86 machine (SunOS tempest-solaris 5.10 Generic_141445-09 i86pc i386 i86pc Solaris), I have been running gcc 4.3.4 (configured for i686-pc-solaris2.10) without a hitch. Both dbx 7.8 and gdb 7.1 are able to read core dumps created from a simple "goodbye, cruel world" program (kind of like "hello world", but it dereferences NULL at the end) built with gcc -m64 -g. However, with a more complex program, neither gdb nor dbx are able to figure it out core dumps (though they can debug it just fine if I set a breakpoint in main and start the program in the debugger).

    pstack: warning: librtld_db failed to initialize; symbols from shared libraries will not be availableAre there any arcane configuration parameters in Solaris that affect the generation of core dumps?

    Bother. Spoke too soon. One of my tests generated a readable core file, but the rest are having the same issues as detailed above. I am examining the core dump on the machine that generated it. The sizes of the failed tests are 21,522,239 and 21,485,375 and 21,526,447, so I doubt it’s running into a limit. (The successful one was 27,942,207.)
    On this machine, coreadm reports:
         global core file pattern:
         global core file content: all
           init core file pattern: core
           init core file content: all
                global core dumps: disabled
           per-process core dumps: enabled
          global setid core dumps: disabled
    per-process setid core dumps: disabled
         global core dump logging: disabledThe machine that got the successful core dump was physical while the ones where it failed were running under VMware LabManager, but I would be very surprised if that makes a difference to this matter. The successful core dump was generated by signal 9 (kill), while the bad ones have all been by signal 11 (segmentation fault).

  • HP Unix 64 bit oracle 9i 9.2.0.5.0 Proc Abort Core Dump

    Hi,
    I am trying small sample proc program on HP unix 64 bit machine. But with 9.2.0.5 it gives core dump
    program:
    ====
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <string.h>
    #include <sqlca.h>
    #include <oraca.h>

    #define PASSWORD "xx1"
    char *username = USERNAME;
    char *password = PASSWORD;

    VARCHAR ename[12];
    int empno = 10;
    main() {
    EXEC SQL WHENEVER SQLERROR GOTO error;
    EXEC SQL CONNECT :username IDENTIFIED BY :password;
    puts("Connected\n");
    exit(1);
    error :
    puts("\n not connected.\n");
    Machine is
    HP-UX xx B.11.11 U 9000/800 178484665 unlimited-user license
    The program runs fine in oracle 9.0.1.4.0
    But it gives core dump in oracle 9.2.0.5.0

    Can anyone help me out ? Have anyone faced this issue ?
    Also, is there any patch needs to be updated for 9.2.0.5 ?

    I suggest you open a call @ SAP and let them look on the system.

  • _smalloc cause core dump

    Hi:
    I got a core dump on _smalloc. Is it due to memory corruption on my application ? The frame stack on gdb is attached:
    #0 0xff0456c8 in _smalloc () from /usr/lib/libc.so.1
    (gdb) bt
    #0 0xff0456c8 in _smalloc () from /usr/lib/libc.so.1
    #1 0xff04570c in malloc () from /usr/lib/libc.so.1
    #2 0x1fde4 in debug_malloc (nsize=11, ntype=1 '\001') at comm_utility.cpp:312
    #3 0x1c144 in LNXSocket_OnReceive (sockfd=12) at comm_connect.cpp:418
    #4 0x1cbc8 in Select_socket () at comm_connect.cpp:612
    #5 0x1e028 in main () at comm.cpp:177
    (gdb) quit
    Thanks and Regards

    We have seen core dumps in system calls earlier and have tried to debug them. We did not have the exact same stack as you but the core used to show up a stack in _malloc.
    As it turned out that we had out of bound array reads (used purify to detect this) and which resulted in this dump. So the stack shown in this case could be totally misleading and the real cause could be somewhere else.
    Hope this helps.

    If some body as an idea about the cause for dump, pls reply.
    Thanks,
    Sandhya

    Hi Sandhya,
    This issue is already handled on your other thread:
    BDB dumps core after adding approx 19MB of data
    Please follow the suggestions provided there and try keeping one issue per thread when posting. The stack trace posted here is almost identical to the previous one you posted, and contains in addition only a couple of calls for memory pool file allocation and writing.
    Thanks, regards,
    Andrei

  • Core dumps with 1.5.0_06-b05... any idea why?

    I am trying to run 1.5.0_06-b05 with Tomcat 5.5.9, and the application keeps producing core dumps from the JVM after some period of use. The hs_err file says the following:
    # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:

    I am wandering if anyone can shed some light on the following lines:
    Current CompileTask:
    opto:5496 s! com.sun.mail.imap.IMAPStore.protocolConnect(Ljava/lang/String;ILjava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)Z (415 bytes)
    What exactly is meant by the Current Compile Task? This is a runtime environment, so I don't understand why classes in the com.sun.mail package would need to be compiled at this time.
    Thanks,
    Filip
    Filip

    The JVM has as just-in-time (JIT) compiler, which translates bytecodes into machine instructions for frequently used methods. The Current Compile Task is the method being compiled by the HotSpot JIT when the crash occurred.
    The crash is most likely bug 6346871, which was fixed in 1.5.0_07. Your problem should go away if you migrate to that version.

  • Solaris 8 : core in /usr/lib/libssasnmp.so.1

    Hello,
    I have a core file when i use the trap_send_with_more_para() function to send a ColdStart trap in Solaris 8 (with or without the last SNMP patch (108869-18)) with SEA 1.0.3..
    I have the same problem in Solaris 7 (SEA 1.0.3) when i add the 107709-20 patch.
    I have no problem in Solaris 7 without the previous patch....
    Thanks for your help.....
    The gdb result is :
    Core was generated by `snmpcd -s -d 0 -p 33045'.
    Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation Fault.

    You probably need to get the current SUNWlibC and Solaris thread library patches for the version of Solaris you are using.
    You can find the latest compiler product patches at http://access1.sun.com/sundev/
