BUG: Installer of Internet Explorer 9 breaks Active Setup, if first user logging on has no admin rights

Hello,
I just stumbled across an issue when deploying the Internet Explorer 9 on Microsoft Windows 7 SP1, like many others before me. See here for example:
http://www.butsch.ch/post/Internet-Explorer-9-Setup-Breaks-Active-Setup-of-further-MSI-Packages.aspx
The Internet Explorer 9 setup creates the REG_SZ "NoIE4StubProcessing" with the value "Y" under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components. This blocks all Active Setup components from being executed, when a user logs on. This seems to
be part of the preparation for the reboot during the IE 9 setup and is supposed to be reversed afterwards.
To re-enable the Active Setup processing, the IE 9 installer places a command in the RunOnce-Key under HKLM. This command is also labeled "NoIE4StubProcessing" and contains the following command line:
reg.exe DELETE "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\NoIE4StubProcessing" /f
In theory, this command will be executed as soon as the first user logs back on, remove the registry entry blocking the Active Setup process and thus enable it again.
However, this only works, if the first user has local admin priviledges on the machine. If an unpriviledged user logs on, the command is still executed and the entry under "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce" is
removed, but the "NoIE4StubProcessing" entry under "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components" remains - resulting in a permantely disabled Active Setup on the machine.
I am not sure, that this is a bug of the IE 9 installer or the way the commands under  "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce" are executed. Nevertheless, a fix for the problem would be great instead of shitty workarounds, that may
break other things.
Due to other means of contacting the developers / program managers in charge, could some moderator pass the issue along? - Please!

Hi Martin,
all feedback/issue reports for IE(10) go through a formal issue tracking portal that MS use. http://connect.microsoft.com/ie
you may appreciate that this helps ensure the issue is formally documented and that resources can be allocated to its resolution.
I have posted your feedback there on your behalf...

  • Alignment bug in Windows Internet Explorer

Im trying to get a silly blog off the ground; I get it to display fine in Safari; Mac/Windows Firefox......but there is usually a major format bug in Windows Internet Explorer. The column on the left wants to keep shifting to the center. Can't find the cause. Any solution? Thanks;-)
(or let me know if I managed to fix it)
    http://www.helpwithfrench.com/nitwit/Myblog/Blog/Blog.html
    thanks again;-)

I do use iweb enhancer and massreplacit for additional code in the head and elsewhere, hmm , I'll check into that possibility.
Of course it comes out fine on every other browser. Meantime; in iweb, the left column is placed exactly on the left edge. So Im stumped. Should I shift left, right, toward the center?? I could shift both columns to the right; so the left is in the center, and the right is on the far side; but then they might still tend to bleed over one another...hmm
    thanx
I'll be checking the massreplacit 'post processing' as you say;-)

  • HT204048 Is there anyway to use internet explorer with active X on my new mac? It is a requirement to log into my office.

I need Active X control through internet explorer in order to remote log into my office for all my business.  Is there anyway this can be done for just this one site without going through all of the trouble of setting up a whole other windows system & using bootcamp that I found information on?

You can use a virtual machine
Mind you both boot camp and a virtual machine would not give osx access

  • Having a bug only with Internet Explorer 7

I am trying to create a special datagrid to store new member
of a project (the interface is to create new project). I am able to
open a cfwindow if the user want to add a new member into the
datagrid. The cfwindow will consist of a form of 3 cfselects
(member's type, member's name, and member's role). Once the user
submit the form, it save the new member into a special table as a
temp table (this is the way I found to play with many generation of
information while having all into one single page instead of having
several steps to create a new project).
Anyway, when the user click on the submit button from the
cfwindow, the application will save the new member, refresh the
datagrid from the parent window and close the cfwindow. It makes me
very nervous as I was not able to accomplish with success that part
until I decided to try with Firefox and see what the Firebug
feature will say about any problem. Instead of seing a problem, I
saw a success!!! I started again in IE7 and the problem persists.
The problem is when the form is submitted, the cfwindow comes to be
the master window and it is not anymore a cfwindow, while Firefox
can process the submit, the refresh of the datagrid on the
master/parent window and close the cfwindow properly.
Anybody have a clue to correct this of we live with this? I
am not confortable with this bug and to be honest, I would prefer
the inverse as we are Microsoft Partner and the business want to
use - as much as possible - Microsoft product including Internet
Explorer. This is not my decision as I love Firefox but this is
something I have to deal with!
I include the code from the CFWindow only as the master
window contains a large amount of code that it is out of this scope
since there is not associated problem at the moment.
    Thank you for any help.

I finally change my interface completely! I decided to go
with step-by-step philosophy as I had to much problem to play with
a single page to accommodate all the information and forms. The
step-by-step method I decided to use is involving a CFLAYOUT which
is change from simple AHREF link (where I use images instead of
text to be more stylish for the user) click. This actually help me
to finish that part of the application (after 2 intensive days of
bugs investigation concerning the new features of CF8). I am not
saying that the problem is CF8, in a contrary, but we have to be
careful when using the new tags because some combinations can be a
nightmare to figure out the proper way - to not say that is it not
possible to be used in combination at all for some of them.
Please note that all datefield input are working perfectly
now. I do not know what was the problem exactly but I suspected
that it was concerning embedding tags into tags such as CFFORM
within CFWINDOW within CFLAYOUT/CFLAYOURAREA within CFFORM. I still
want to turn myself to the EXT2 library but the time, as I said
before, is a big issue for me (as I miss the appropriate time to do
it). Perhaps CF9 will be on a beta version soon and I will be able
to figure out faster as they certainly expect to use the EXT2 in
    the next version.

  • Hello, after Internet Explorer was activated, Mozilla Firefox is blank, when a connection to a web page is asked, it shows that the connection is broken.

Prior to this, it was vice-versa, Internet Explorer was blank and couldn't connect to any web page, after Firefox was activated. When a virus disfunction with Firefox came up, we uninstalled it, installed it again, and it worked fine, with Internet Explorer not working again. When a friend made an adjustement and made it work, we discovered later, that Firefox had the problem of not connecting now.

  • Flash Installer opens Internet Explorer instead of default browser

Every time I have installed Flash or installed an update, the installer concludes by opening my Internet browser to display its "Thank you and enjoy Adobe Flash Player. Here is another product that might interest you..." advert. The trouble is that it always opens it in Internet Explorer rather than my default browser. I never, ever use Internet Explorer since I consider it a major security risk and indeed the only time I ever see it is when I update Flash....
I've always wondered why the Flash Installer does this - every other program that opens a browser manages to open the default one, so how come Adobe's coders can't seem to manage it?

It typically opens the default browser regardless of which browser you're actually using.  I'm wondering if there's a funky registry key or something that confuses things for your system.
Either way, we usually launch the default system browse, which is not necessarily the browser you started the installation with.  This is a long-standing bad experience, and something that I complain to the team that makes the installer about on a regular basis.  Everyone involved recognizes that the behavior is less than ideal, but it's a fundamental design problem and it's not something that can be addressed with a simple fix.  It *is* very much on the radar as something that we want changed, and I'm pretty sure that it will get resolved in the installer over the long-term.
In the meantime, if you would like to avoid the Flash Player upgrade process entirely, Google Chrome includes Flash Player as a built-in component.  There's nothing separate to download from Adobe, and all the updates are made available directly through Chrome's update mechanism.

  • Flash Player 11 Installation with Internet Explorer 9

OK, I know there are alot of discussions on this already, but I have tried all the suggestions with no luck.  I have just got my PC back after a full restore, 32 bit Windows Vista.  I have installed the new Internet Explorer 9 and wasn't surprised when it told me to install the latest version of Flash Player.  I tried to install and got the message to close Internet Explorer which I had already done.  I managed to sort that by going to Task Manager and closing an iexplore.exe process that appeared to be stuck.  When I go to adobe.com it tells me that I have the latest version (11.0.1.152) installed, but when I try to view videos on IE9 it tells me that I still do not have Flash Player! I have restarted, checked the things that have been suggested in other posts and still  not having any luck!
    Suggestions please????

  • CRM hangs Internet explorer when activating WebDynpro

    Sincere.
Yesterday we installed some paches for Windows and Internet Explorer (no newer version of Java). Now we have three computers of different OS (winXP and win7), that have strange behaviour for SAP CRM; every click on button, that activates webdynpro (to show selection pop-up box, to run a report) and IE crashes. CRM works normal while using only HTML though (to move through menues).
Then we have to phisicaly kill the IE.exe process in Task manager.
Serious problem is, that this problem appears on small amount of computers so far, but we're afraid of mass error. We don't even know if patches are true reason.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    I'll try:
    -deleting cookies
-shutting down all add-ons in IE
-patch comparison between working and non-working computer
    -reinstallation of IE
    Thank you for your time,
    Regards.
    M.

It looks like the zoom error.
check if the zoom level is normal there.
ctrl +0 to make zoom to normal
    and try again.

  • How to reset all Internet Explorer 8 settings for a different user profile?

Sometimes users on locked down PCs that need their IE settings reset to resolved issues such as improper/old cached credentials stored in the browser after a password change etc.  These issues can be resolved by opening
Internet Options, Advanced tab, Reset, Delete All, Reset.
The users cannot do this because the Advanced Tab is hidden by policy.  If an administrator logs in with a different account, of course, anything they change is in their profile and not the user's profile.
Is there some way for an administrator user to log in and access Internet Control Panel settings for a different user's Internet Options so they can reset the browser for a limited user?
We need a more streamlined way to do this instead of needing to either blow away the user's entire Windows profile or else go through the convoluted process of getting the GPO admins to undo the group policy for one user to unhide the tab, have the help
desk reset the browser for the user and then have the GPO admins reapply the original policy.

You can try the following script
Reset Internet Explorer all Setting to default using PowerShell Script
    http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Internet-Explorer-20f838e7
but this script still launches an interactive interface, you can ask in this form to improve the script to achieve an totally unattended process.
    The Official Scripting Guys Forum!
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/scriptcenter/en-US/home?forum=ITCG
You can create a task schedule to trigger the process. When computer starts or
IE open , the script launches itself automatically.

  • When I upload favourites from Internet Explorer I only get the first two follders (out of 20 or so )

I have followed the help folder instructions and have attempted the upload three times with the same result.

If you have problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.<br />
That way you also preserve any sorting that you may have done in IE with the Favorites and the favorites won't end up in a "From Internet Explorer" folder, but will be appended at the end of the Bookmarks Menu folder.
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File
See "Import from another browser" and "Import from file":

  • Internet Explorer 11 - Emulation Document Mode and User Agent String Drop Down Menu Blank

    Hey
I have a user who has a problem with Internet Explorer 11 where when you go to emulation mode using F12, the Document Mode and User Agent String Drop Down Menu are both blank. On our internal website its works correctly but on all other external websites
    they are both blank.
I have had a look at the link below but this did not help as it would not recreate some of the registry keys.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-iewindows8_1/document-mode-and-user-agent-string-dropdowns/cd34d5f8-7839-4083-af55-05d49ba85190?rtAction=1387560713451
    Charlie

    Hi,
Please include links to any websites that you are having issues with your questions.
There are some known reasons why the documentMode dropdown appears blank...
not all websites though should have the conditions for this.
f12>Console tab, refresh the page to show suppressed error messages and warnings... (documentMode x-ua toggling is listed)...
IE11 includes improvements for XSS... to link to internet sites from your intranets you need to add those sites (If you really, really trust them) to the Trusted Sites list.
the developer console will list blocked xss requests.
by default IE11 runs in EPM.... in the Internet Zone, while it is not switched on for the intranet zone....
EPM only allows 64 bit Addons and ActiveX controls to run in the context of an IE tab...
so its highly likely that one of your Addons is causing the issue.
the first step in troubleshooting IE issues is to test in noAddons mode.
    Regards.

  • Windows 7 64bits Installing Internet Explorer 11 ERROR Neutral package installation failed

    Hi,
The laptop is running Windows 7 64bits with Internet Explorer 10 and the Windows automatic updates is turned on. The problem happens when the Windows keeps installing the Internet Explorer 11 every time between shutdown process. So I decided to download
IE11 offline installation and try to install from it but the problem doesn't solve, the installation still does not complete. I have tried to delete all files in the Windows temp folder and IE temp folder already but the problem still exist.

Unfortunately, since then others have quickly stuck a pin in this balloon, finding that it is just one more bump in the road, but at least working around this coding error should change your symptom.

  • Message d'erreur :  "L'installation de Photoshop elements nécessite Internet explore 4.0" !!!

Bonjour.

    Solution:
"Ordinateur\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths".

  • Setting Browser (Internet Explorer) setup as per my application to run on a new system

    Hi,
I am using flex code to my project thats runs on Internet explorer after installing "Flash player plugin" and my application has POP Ups and it gets blocked by my browsers....We have to change our Internet setting as to allow all popups manually,
When i am running my application in a newly installed system with new browser,i should not change my browser setting as per i need to my application, it should automatically change its setting according to run my application i.e., installing flash player plugin and enabling popup blocker and so on.,
Is there any way to do this following in my code part as to change my browser setting according to my application.
Note : I have developed my application in J2EE with JSP and Flex Code.
i need to handle this issue on any part of this application,So please help me if any ideas to solve this
    Thanks in Advance

That's correct, but one of the great things about Flash/Flex is it makes it easy to create popups within the application that, while they don't overlay other windows in the system, aren't blocked by popup blockers.

I could use all the help I can get. Thank you very much.

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on the HP Pavilion Media Center a1612n desktop computer. I have been trying to install IE11 on there forever and it will not finish all the way through. I've been getting the 9C59 errors that people have been talking
    about on here.
    Assuming Win7 64-bit with Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) installed...
We'll need to "dig a little deeper" here. Please answer each of the following
[admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably
    without quoting my post:
1a. When (approx. date) did you purchase the computer?
1b. Did Win7 64-bit come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it, did you do a clean install of Win7,
or did you upgrade the computer to Win7?
    2. What is the full name of your installed anti-virus application or security suite and
when (approx. date) does your current subscription expire? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender) are installed? What third-party firewall (if any)?
    3. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer
    since you bought it?
    4. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial [PICK ONE] come preinstalled on the computer
when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)
    5. Is KB3038314, KB3042553, KB3046306, KB3046269, KB3045999, KB3045685, KB3046482, and/or KB3037574 (and possibly KB2990214) listed in
Installed Updates (not Update History)? [1]
    6. Assuming Java is installed => Is Java Version 8 Update 40 (or higher) or Java Version 7 Update 75 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! =>
    http://java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp [2]
    7. Is Adobe Flash Player v17.0.0.169 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER
    ONLY! =>
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
8a. When (exact date) was Internet Explorer 10 installed according to
    Installed Updates?
8b. What Update Version & KB number are displayed in the second line of text in IE10's Help | About [Alt+H+A] tab; e.g.,
    Update Version: 10.0.54 (KB1231231) ?
8c. Is IE11 being offered via Windows Update?
8d. Is Firefox, Chrome or any other alternate browser installed?
    9. Are you in the habit of using "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; Registry Booster; McAfee QuickClean; Glary Utilities; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; PCTools Optimiser;
SpeedUpMyPC; PC Doctor; TuneUp Utilities; WinMaximizer; WinSweeper; Comodo System Cleaner; Advanced System Optimizer; CCleaner's Registry Cleaner
    component)?
    PS: You're not alone! => http://goo.gl/duMmQo

[1] Start | Control Panel | Programs and Features | View installed updates (in left-hand menu)
[2] No need to install Java if it's not already installed!
