Build installer for lvlib for LabVIEW instr.lib folder

Dear.
It might be trivial.
I build an .lvlib.
What I want now is to make an Istaller.
The installer should install the vilib into the instr driver directory of the current LabVIEW Version.
I'm using LV 2011.
The installer always wants to install the files into 'Program Files' folder.
So the question is:
How do I have to proceed?
I want the complete vi and controls hirarchy including dir.mnu files to be installed into the instr.lib folder.

This is a prime canidate for VIPM. You can use the free version to build the package. The best part of using VIPM is that you can "install" it on every version of LabVIEW you have installed (that is it compatable with, of course).

Hi Shada this can happen if you are including additional installers to your installer for example DAQmx. When you are doing this the installer has to include other files like MAX (Measuremente and Automation Explorer). Probably when you installed Vision Builder it updated MAX, so when your installer is trying to Include MAX, its asking for the source where it was installed in your computer in this case Vision Builder.
Here you can cache the information so its not asked again, or you can download a newer version fo DAQmx, so it will update MAX and change de dependecy.

I am looking for Modal Analysis Labview VI lib or example?

I am looking for Modal Analysis Labview VI lib? specifically, I conducted Frequency Response Measurements, I managed to construct the experimental frequency response function. Now, I am looking for modal extraction from the experimentally determined frequency response function.
I appreciate if someone knows about Labview VI or example to perform the curve fitting in the frequency domain to extract the modal parameters.

Hpe364xa instr lib can't work

I am trying to use hpe364xa d/l from this site on my E3640A powersupply from
Agilent using Labview 5.1.1
keep giving me the error message :
"block diagram error
call library function: function not found in library"
the function it is trying to call is :C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW\INSTR.LIB\hpe364xa\hpe364xa.llb\hpe364xa
Initialize With Options.vi\hpe364xa_32.dll
does anybody knows what's wrong? is it with the dll file?

Hi,
This is an IVI driver. This problem seems to be that the VI Call Library function is looking in the wrong place for the dll.
Usually they are installed in the VXIpnp folder. and you should find the dll in the c:\VXIpnp\Bin folder.
Just click on the call library function and select the configure. Then change the folder location for the dll.
Or you could try unstalling the driver and try reistalling it again.

Application builder adds additional select instr.lib folders

Hi,
When I build my application, the Application Builder decides that it should include additional directories instead of the default files (data directory, .aliases, .exe, and .ini files). The additional directories include files that are named the same in various instr.lib's but are in different libraries, i.e. Close.vi or Initialize.vi. In my project explorer are there no unresolved dependancies. Does anyone know why this may be happening?

What version of LabVIEW are you using? If you are using 2009 or above, there is an option to use the 8.X format for the executable. It is one of the advanced options in the build specification. You do NOT want to do that. In the 8.X format, the VIs are saved in the executable as a flat directory. This means that any VI that was named the same, regardless of library association, would conflict. This would cause those libraries to be saved outside of the executable.
If you are using the newer format, the executable keeps a directory hierarchy, just like a zip file. So you won't have the name conflicts in that instance.

Labview 8.2 application builder - installer deletes previously installed programs

Problem Description :
I've been developing with LabView for 8+ years and recently had to upgrade from 6.1 to 8.2 because of compatibility issues with LabView, MAX, DAQ and SERIAL. LabView had always been so intuitive and efficient, but that has changed to some degree sometime after 6.1 IMO. I won't get further into that, but I am having several problems with Application Builder and particularly, with creating an Installer and installing test programs. I haven't seen many posts on this subject so I assume I am doing something wrong.
In 6.1, I could build a program and create an installer in minutes, and all in the same step - Click on Build and the installer was created. I could also locate my files anywhere I wanted. Unfortunately the process in 8.2 is no where as simple as one has to create a build and installer separately. So far, I haven't been able to distribute my installer files where I want them according to our internal procedures. The build portion works fine and I can locate my files as needed, but not so for the installer (at least I haven't figured it out yet). The main problem is that I have some common DLLs that I'd like to locate in a common directory for all of my programs, but it seems like I'm stuck putting them in the installation directory of every program that I write. Again, it is fine in build. There doesn't seem to be any flexibility in changing the location of the files in the installer. I did see a post somewhere that mentioned that DLL files must be located in the system directory if you don't want them included in the build or installation. I would just like to install the dlls to a common directory and not include them in every installation directory. Just like I did in LV 6.1!
This is a relatively minor problem compared to what happens when I try to install the programs.
I have five separate programs for which I have recently built and created installers with the limitations that I've described above. I can install one program on my machine and it runs properly. If I try to install any of the
other four, they will delete the previous installation - all the files are deleted (they all have different names). What I think is going on is that the installer thinks that these five programs are the same and simply overwrites the previous installation. One reason I believe this, is because I tried an installation and it failed with the error message that there was already a higher version installed. The higher version it was referring to was almost certainly the one program I could install, but certainly not a higher version of the one I was trying to install (it didn't exist yet). After I uninstalled the one program, I could install any other four. It doesn't matter if I install on the build computer or the target computer (ATE).
What am I doing wrong? Please help me to resolve this problem.

C:\KIK2-LabView\Customer Name\Base Part Number4\Program4.exe.......
C:\KIK2-LabView\Customer Name\Base Part Number5\Program5.exe.......
The support files will also be put in the corresponding directories. The common files were supposed to go in the KIK2-LabView directory instead of copies in every installation directory.
Is there something I have to do with the registry? In 6.1 it was all automatic.
I hope there are simple answers to my problems, but I have yet to find them out. I have been able to find very little info on Application Builder, and nothing that is comprehensive.

I have scoured the Help files and this forum which helped me to create the build and installer, but they didn't address any of the problems that I described in my post. I tried to make sure that I exhausted numerous resources before posting and requesting help.
I appreciate the response, but you didn't quite get to my most important problem - that when I try to install a program from the created installer, it overwrites my previously installed program. Actually I have found the answer in a different thread. --->  http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=140&message.id=16146. My problem is that I cut and pasted all of my project files and made the appropriate changes specific to each new project. If you don't create brand new builds and installers in these projects, you will create duplicate registry keys, even though all of the names, numbers, files, etc. were changed to be completely unique. I opened the .lvproj file in notepad and found several registry keys to be the same; here is an example:

All of the projects that I created by cut and paste (and edit) method had this same exact key (as well as other keys) which was causing the previous install to be deleted/overwritten or gave me the message that a higher version already existed.  Again, this happened even though all of the project data was completely unique after it was edited, including the project filename (of course). Finally, I completely rebuilt my projects from scratch starting with "New Project" and voila, they now all install properly. Obviously, none shared any of the same registry keys.
I don't know if this is something that was overlooked, but it is so much easier to cut, paste and edit projects when they are very similar.   Unfortunately I have found out the hard way that new build and install spec's must be created. Is there a change that can be made to the Project File in LabView so that when certain information changes (like the executable file name) that new registry keys will be generated? It is obvious that you don't want someone to accidentally install a lower version of the project over a newer one, but it would have prevented my work time loss (several days) and will prevent time loss for others in the future as well. Could you at least consider allowing the developer to generate new keys like was available in LabView 6.1?
Also concerning the location of files, I previously had done all of what you said and can locate the build files where I want. However, in the Installer (Source Files Tab), when I create the folders in [Windows Volume], all of the files from the build spec are put into the SAME directory, regardless of where they were located in the build spec. If I try to delete one file, all will be removed. I can't place individual files where I want them to go in the installer (if they are a part of the build). Example: In the installer, I created the subfolders KIK2-LabView\Customer\UUT Base Part Number on the [Windows Volume] directory and set the UUT Base Part Number as default. I want most of the files to go into the default directory, but a few of the dependent dll's should go into the KIK2-LabView folder as they are common to many other programs/projects. In short, I don't need or desire 50 copies of these dlls on my ATE. I was able to locate the installer files anywhere in LabView Pro 6.1, but so far I can't figure out if this is possible in 8.2. It would appear that it is not.

The password: The weblogic password you provide when prompted
must be at least: minimal condition for secure passwords enforced on WLS by default
at least 8 alphanumeric characters: no 7 but eight or more characters
with at least one number or special character: password should have a number in it or an "@" "-" or similar
E.g.
weblogic1
is one password option that would meet that requirement

How to create a dataplugin for DataFinder using LabVIEW

We want to use LabVIEW to create a dataplugin that will be used by DataFinder (My DataFinder). We have found on the NI web site the LabVIEW DataPlugin SDK - , a SDK that allow us to create a dataplugin. The SDK is for LabVIEW 8.6.
The dataplugin example code of the SDK work very well in the “For testing” section of the development project. We are also able to register it to use it through DataFinder. The dataplugin is available in the “Configure ...” window of DataFinder.The problem is that the dataplugin doesn’t work with DataFinder. We didn’t receive any kind of error message or code. We only get the value “eIndexedFailure” in the “Index status” property. After expectation, it seems those input parameters are different between a LV and a VBS dataplugin. And we think that can be the source of the problem. There is someone that can help us about that?
We also want to use LabVIEW 2009. The SDK example work under 2009, but we get the same problem with DataFinder.

Dear Kelly R, you're right I can’t open the file in DIAdem. The RegisterLabVIEWDataPlugin.ini file is correct. But I’ve just tried to rebuild the project and then use the Installer instead of just using the Deploy. Now it works, even with my own code. Now I can open the file in DIAdem without problem. The installer uses the “NI LabVIEW Dataplugin 1.0” package. It seems that the SDK installer has never install this package.I thank you all for your help.

WebLogic 8.1 SP6 NoClassDefFoundError for jar in WEB-INF/lib dir (Solaris)

I am getting a NoClassDefFoundError for a class that is contained in the WEB-INF/lib folder of my ear/war file.
The strange thing is that this only fails when i try to deploy to production. In UAT (also on Solaris) and in Windows (test) the exact same versions of the deployment / ear file everything seems fine and the class is accessed.
When i added the jar file to the classpath i experienced a "Unsupported major.minor version...." of this class error so i am reluctant to go down that route and anyway would rather consistent deployment between the systems.
I would REALLY appreciate any suggestions as to what might be the cause or what i could try.

I appear to have found the problem (i managed to recreate in Windows) but have no idea why this is occuring.
In the startManagedWebLogic.cmd file, if i specify "set JAVA_OPTIONS= xxxxxx" then the system will not pick up this one jar file. This appears to be the case even with "set JAVA_OPTIONS=-Dweblogic.attribute=value -Djava.attribute=value" which i assume is a default value as i can't remember having set it... The moment i comment out this set JAVA_OPTIONS line then the system is able to find the jar file.
(Answering your questions:
- The class in question is being referenced from another class also contained in a jar file in the WEB-INF/lib directory
- the WEB-INF is part of the WAR which is contained in the EAR which is deployed on my server)
For now i am ok but know that in a future build i am going to have to use the JAVA_OPTIONS parameter so would really appreciate any suggestions as to why this might be happening.

[solved] building the kernel headers for custom kernels

well, ive been building several different kernels for my laptop, so that i can test stuff. but ive got a problem with the kernel headers.
ive mirrored the arch kernel's PKGBUILD and modified some naming to get a custom kernel. but when i try to build a custmo module, it complains the headers are broken. (example, vbox_build_module).
im pasting the pkgbuild here for future reference...if someone sees something thats plain wrong, please say so.

for anything that might be missing. The error message when compiling would give you more of a clue. Off-hand, you may need to add 'generated', as I recall I needed that when the kernel moved to 2.6.33.

Oh I see,
The window looks so similar to other activation windows, I had only ever seen the DPS login for CS5 which was in the Panel.
Be good for this window to have some text that relates to DPS. Maybe Sign in to DPS or you must sign in with an Adobe ID to use the Digital Publishing Suite and the Folio Builder.

Thx for your suggestion, but actually I had try Project Builder for building the deployment package and I only can install from from Oracle Installer, also I can't create custom shortcut nor icons on desktop (not mention the registry settings yet). For information, me and my customer are using Win2k, so I try to find an executable deployment package. Any further suggestion ?
