Building charts in a jsp page

hi all,
I have seen jfreechart for making charts. Iam new to jsp. so I dont know how to integrate
jfreechart with jsp. I dont know how to start with it. can any one help me. Its very urgent.
Pls show me the coding to implement a bar chart in a jsp page fetching values from the database and things to be configured for making it.
thanx
Balaji

I've never used jfreecharts but maybe I can help you from the JSP side of the coin.I assume you are at least somewhat proficient with Java programming and if you are not then this is the wrong place to start. Think of JSP as a code generating tool. It's typically used to generate HTML or XML content. So from within a JSP page you are generating HTML to be rendered by the browser. So the 1st thing is that you have to understand what the resulting HTML page with the embedded chart would look like. Then you have to figure out how to generate the chart outside of JSP. I'm thinking that the resulting charts are images but I'm not sure because I've never used it before. You would code the Java logic to create the chart.then you can invoke that logic from your JSP to generate a chart upon request.

  • CHART BUILDER ERROR WHEN TRYING TO GENERATE DYNAMIC CHARTS ON A JSP PAGE

    I'm working with J Develop 9.03 on Windows 2000 Professional Edition.
    I'm using the JSP demo files provided with Oracle Chart Builder to generate
    dynamic charts. The user specifies the query parameters, including the date
    range and the query results are returned by means of a line chart (with date on
    the x axis and values on the y axis).
    When trying to compile the project I get the following error messages:
    Error(165,2): class FileOutputStream not found in class _graph
    Error(170,5): class File not found in class _graph
    Error(176,4): exception java.io.IOException is never thrown in the
    corresponding try block
    I checked to see that the chartbuilder library (chartbuilder.jar) files are
    loaded into the project library. It's unusual that the class is not being
    found. I don't understand why. I developed my project using the following steps:
    1. Unzipped Chart Builder installation files into c:\Oraclechartbuilder
    2. Loaded chartbuilder class library
    c:\Oraclechartbuilder\chartbuilder\lib\chartbuilder.jar into J Developer class
    path (by selecting <Project Settings> <Paths> and browsing to the
    chartbuilder.jar file).
    3. Created a new JSP page in J Developer (graph.jsp)
    4. Copied JSP code syntax from the Word Pad demo file and pasted into graph.jsp
    5. Changed the DB connection parameters and static directory location on the
    JSP page.
    6. Compiled the project and received the above errors.
    I would like to know why the classes are not being found and how to fix the problem. Thanks, Jaafar

    Hi mshah101,
    This can happen if the applet is compiled using an higher version of java and the browser is pointing to an older version (even if minor version number is higher)

  • Please provide me build.xml to compile JSP pages

    Hi EveryBody,
    I am using the build.xml file to compile the JSP files to .class files. While running the build.xml file using ANT I am getting the following error.

    Any body have the build.xml file for the standard XMAM30. Because I am doing custom changes to this. While deploying this to PDA I am getting an error because it was able to compile the JSP files in PDA.

    Hello everyone,
    sorry for using this old thread, but it just fits my question ...
    Does anyone have by chance a build.xml  for standard XMAM30 working for Netwaver 7.1?

  • Write an image file to a jsp page

    Hy,
    I've writen a small program, which draws a chart. The program normally creates a .png file of this chart which it stores on the file system and then read the png file and display the chart on a jsp page. Now, what I want is that, instead of writing the png file on the filesystem, i write it on a jsp page and then read the file from that jsp page. (i.e Its the jsp page which contains the image file).
    Can anyone please explain to me how to achieve this and if possible the codes also
    thanks in advance

    Hi, gulshan21
    JSP pages are intended to send text type content (though in the most of the containers this approach seems works fine). The best thing is to make a servlet, like this:
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.imageio.*;
    import java.awt.image.*;
    public class GraphicServlet extends HttpServlet {
      public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,
                                       HttpServletResponse response)
                               throws ServletException, IOException {
        response.setContentType("image/jpeg");     // Or "image/png"
        OutputStream os = response.getOutputStream();
        ImageIO.write(getImage(100, 100), "PNG", os);      // Sends the image
        os.close();
      private synchronized BufferedImage getImage(int width, int height) {
        BufferedImage img = new BufferedImage(width, height,
                                                                                    BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
        Graphics g = img.createGraphics();
        // Here you draw the image with the graphics methods
        g.dispose();
        return img;
    }Salud

  • How to Build Custom JSP Page to bypass Oracle Apps Login

    Hi All,
    Can some one guide me how to develop a custom jsp page to bypass Oracle Apps R12 Login.
    Actually Our requirement is some external user will enter the login details in some third party login page with the third party generated username and passwrod, that user's credentials are mapped to oracle system,so as soon as they enter credentials having validated it has to redirect that external user to Oracle Apps R12 Home Page, where responsibilities are shown. Currently that third Party login page is set to redirect to RF.jsp but that is not working and throws this error:
    "You are trying to access a page that is no longer active.
    - The referring page may have come from a previous session.Please select Home to Proceed"
    So I am planning to build a custom jsp page to resolve the error.
    As soon as user enter credentials in the third party login page, it will be redirected to my custom login page which in turn redirect external user to Oracle Apps R12 Home Page, where responsibilities are shown. Is it possible? If yes what JSP Page/Servlet I have to invoke from custom JSP Page and what all URL parameters or session parameters and cookies parameter I have to pass or set.
    Can anybody please help me...
    Its very urgent. We are running short of time. Its a sev 1 issue.

    Hi,

    My requirement is what I have explained above.
    Please suggest its urgent.

    I want to draw bar, pi etc chart on the web page by getting the values from database oracle while implementing in jsp. kindly tell me how i can do this. Please write down the detailed code for it. Thankx.

  • Launching a Discoverer report from jsp page

    Hi
    I have a discoverer workbook created using BI Discoverer (for relational). I want to accept some parameters for this workbook from a jsp page, which will also have a "View report" button. This button when pressed should open up the Discoverer workbook and all the parameters from the jsp should be passed to the workbook.
    Is it possible? If yes, any details on it?
    We do the same thing successfully to launch Oracle Reports from jsps, we simply build the url in the jsp, and from jsp we submit it to a new window, and it opens up the report. Similar functionality we are looking to launch Discoverer reports.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Shalu

    You can open the workbook with URL parameters with Discoverer Viewer much like you would Oracle Reports. Setting anything form the username, password, workbook name, worksheet, and parameters. All the information can be found in the following document:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_11/bi.1012/b13918/urlstart.htm
    The specific question your asking is addressed under 13.5.2 Example 2. Let me know if you have any issues

  • How to share the same QUERY among report, chart on the same page? and more

    Dear HTMLDB experts,
    I am absolute rookie to this tool, so I have some questions need you all's help.
    (1)
    When I build a page with a spread sheet and a chart on the same page, they all use the same query to get the data. However, I have to type in the SQL twice in spread sheet(report region) and chart's attribute sections. It seems so dumb, does it really run the same query twice, is there a way to share the same query?
    i.e. SELECT name, timestamp, value FROM foo WHERE name = :P1_NAME? (by the way, is :P1_NAME case sensitive?)
    (2)
    In the same chart, if I have two series from two columns of the same table, I have to write 2 queries, one
    select null, timestamp, value1 from same_table
    and
    select null, timestamp, value2 from same_table
    Is it possible to use one query: select timestamp, value1, value2 from same_table and define the series on two value columns of this single query? It's really no point to run two queris.
    (3)
    In a chart, when the query has ORDER by clause, it seems the chart is not showing up.
    So instead of using the query below
    SELECT null, to_char(ts,'mmdd') ts, value
    FROM same_table
    WHERE ts >= TRUNC(SYSDATE) - :P2_DAYSAGO - 1
    AND name = :P1_NAME
    ORDER BY ts
    I have to use a walkaround query
    SELECT null, ts, used
    FROM
    SELECT null, to_char(ts,'mmdd') ts, value
    FROM same_table
    WHERE ts >= TRUNC(SYSDATE) - :P2_DAYSAGO - 1
    AND name = :P1_NAME
    ORDER BY ts
    Further more, it seems :P1_NAME in the same subquery is not working for the chart, i get xml parsing errors in SVGviewer, however the same query works for the spread sheet area, I am really puzzeled. Not sure whether it's dumb tool or dumb me :-)
    Appreciate your help!

    For this particular issue, I found out that neither is the tool dumb nor is me. It's SVGViewer messed up with the firefox browser, after I rebooted the computer this morning, problem is gone. I didnt reboot after I copied SVGViewer dll and zip file to firefox plugin directory yesterday. Never had that pain with IE and Netscape, oh well :-). So please ignore this section, however other questions are still unsolved puzzles for me. Thank you all if you can share some light on those questions.

  • Need to create a JSP page that informs user how many SMSes are sent.

    Hello again ,
    My project , which is based on a web-based group SMS module is working , but unfortunately when I send out the group SMS to the selected group , the notification of the sending of SMS is only made visible in the Apache Tomcat status screen . For every SMS sent , the Apache Tomcat screen will display that the SMS is sent to this phone number and recipient number out of the maximium number of recipients.
    How can I make a JSP page that would allow me to display these messages instead ? Any help and advice would be welcomed .
    Cheers
    Seiferia

    The simple way would be to just write a simple jsp that takes the output of the class and displays it. A JSP is nothing more than a servlet class, so you can use your existing classes inside it. If you want to do it the correct way, you should use taglibs to build the JSP. It's up to you.
    I suggest buying a good book about JSP's and read that first, else you may be a little overwhelmed.
