Building DAQmx 7.1 application without hardware

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation, and perhaps solved
it...
I am working on a 7.1 application that uses DAQmx. I do the work on my
laptop, without the hardware. It would be nice if I could create an
executable on that laptop. But when I try, the executable fails to work on
the target computers. One of them has LabVIEW installed, but we are
geographically separated.
When I start the created executable on a target I get (it does work on the
laptop):
+++++++++++++++
An error occurred loading VI 'DAQmx Read(Analog 2D DBL NChan NSamp).vi'.
Labview load error code 21: An external subroutine required for execution
could not be found
An error occurred loading VI 'DAQmx Read(Analog 1D DBL NChan NSamp).vi'.
Labview load error code 21: An external subroutine required for execution

Missing subVI DAQmx Read(Analog 2D DBL NChan NSamp).vi in VI Aquire Motor
Data.vi
Missing subVI DAQmx Read(Analog 1D DBL NChan NSamp).vi in VI Hardware
Control.vi
+++++++++++++++
Now this is probably a problem with DAQmx versions. I have 7.1, 8.2.1 and
8.5 on my laptop, while the other pc only has 7.1 runtime engine.
I could live with dynamically loaded external libraries, but I am not sure
how that will turn out.
Does anyone have other ideas, or experiance with my solution?
Regards,
Wiebe.

so, then what version of DAQmx do you have installed on the laptop
Dennis, thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have LV version 7.1, 8.2.1 and 8.5 on my laptop.
I can't really check the version of DAQmx on the other PC, but I have
version 4.4.1. This version is copyrighted 2007, and I'm sure the remote
PC's are installed around 2002. So they have an older version of DAQmx for
sure.
> and did you install the same version on the other pc?
No. We had lots of trouble to get it working, and I really don't want to
install new a new version, unless it is absolutely needed.
> The error messages imply that you don't have DAQmx installed at all on it.
You are right. I've checked the DAQmx VI's from the remote system, and they
use the same dll, nilvaiu.dll. So now it is an even greater mystery, thanks!
Just kidding... The two vi's are 100% identical.
Why would a vi be able to find the dll, and a natively build exe also, while
my exe can't find it?
>Did you install MAX on the other pc and can you use that to verify DAQmx is
there and working?
Yes. I can actually run the LabVIEW application on that PC without any
problems. I can also build an executable on the remote pc and this exe runs
fine on all the remote PC's. I can also run Measurement explorer without
problems.
I do recall a project where I explicitly add DAQmx vi's to my project as
dynamic vi's. I did not know why I ever did that, but it might be related.
Thanks again,
Wiebe.

How do you create a stand alone application using DAQmx when your application SCXI hardware isn't on the computer I am using to create the application? The DAQmx assitant won't allow me to create a task with hardware that isn't in my system.

You will need to have at least the DAQ device in your computer to add the chassis. When you add the chassis, don't auto detect the modules. You will have to add the terminal blocks and tell MAX which SCXI module will be connected to the DAQ device. Just make sure you don't test the chassis, when its not there.
    I hope this helps.

    Hi,
There is no option to simulate traditional device. You need hardware for that so i would suggest to simulate a PXI device which has similar configuration to PCI-6014 and to do a small modification to your application..

  • How to use application builder to generate installation disk without compiling the the support files?

    Hello,
What I am trying to do is to use LV application builder generating an installation disk without compiling the support files. I mean:
the support fils like the help files are located on a different directory , for example, installation disk is D drive, help file directory is: D:\Help\...,  not compiled in the installation Data set.
So,  when the installation disk is running, it only copy this directory file into the destiny directory. Of course, we can write a different bat file to do this. However, beside this method, is there any way, like using LV application builder to do this without writing a batch file.  Any suggestion will be appreciated.

For LabVIEW 7.1, this can be done in a few short steps. First, add your help file as a support file in the Application Builder. Then go to the Installer tab, choose to create an installer and click on the Files button at the bottom. From this dialog (shown below), you can specify the destination for each component in your install package. If you have added your help file as a support file, it will show up in the Files in Installation list. Click on your help file to highlight it. You can now choose where to install the file to by specifying an installation destination and a subdirectory. The default subdirectory is called data, but if you want to change that, just type in a new subdirectory name as I have done below:
    Hope this helps!

how build stand alone application without labview?
    thank and regard

I assume that the poster means to run this on a computer without the development environment installed.  That is what the app builder is for. Review Altenbach's post.  This being said, there will need to be a runtime engine installed on the target PC. You can 'bundle' that with your build application and install it together, although I usually prefer Not to do that, and make that a seperate step because it is rather large, and if the target already has it, then it is wasted space.  Speaking of run time engine, I have seen negative reactions to it by my customers, but after sitting down and explaining that, with few exceptions, every application requires a run time engine. It is just that some are bundled with windows, or installed through windows update.  Once explained, it usually quiets the opposition. [Paul steps off soap box now]

Yes, I've done this with build servers though not with the development desktop.
    You'll need:

I would like to try and simulate the motion control of my system before i hook up the motion control card. But when I use the VI in flex motion contro took kit it asks for address or something and gives me an error. Can't I just simulate without hardware?

    Hello,
The only way you can use FlexMotion without any hardware is to set it up as Open Loop Stepper Control. Otherwise, you will get errors when no encoder signal is fed back to the controller.

    ?<br><br>Sridhar.
You are not right. It is possible. With LV 7.0 and previous versions (I
don't know if this still works for 7.1), the executable will run correctly
if lvrt.dll and the other support files are in the same directory. So you
could, for example, put your executable on a thumb drive. Copy all files
    and folders in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\shared\LabVIEW
Run-Time\7.0 directory to the thumb drive as well. Then your supervisor
could just run the program from the thumb drive without copying anything to
his computer. Or, if you want the drive back, he could copy the entire
contents to his drive without using an installer.
But this begs the question, if your supervisor is evaluating executables you
are creating in LabVIEW, what's the problem with installing LV Run-Time on
    his computer?

  • External Application without portal ?

    Hi all
I have several applications built in JSP + BC4J , deployed in Oracle Application Server 10G (9.0.4) , operating system is windows 2000 server.
Application server middle tier and infrastruture are in the same server.
I have added all applications to SSO as External Application
I'm not using Portal, so, how can i make this applications "visible" to end user ?
Should i built and JSP page wich lists all External Applications, asks for login/password if authentication cookie not exits ??
is there any other way of doing it without portal ???
    Best Regards
    Rui Madaleno

    Rui,
actually the External Applications implementation is completely separate from the Portal and does not require it to function. (The external Applications Portlet is a simple interface to expose the list of external applications.
If you are looking for a simple interface to expose the list, it is much as you describe. Building a simple Partner application which has links referencing the appropriate SSO server URLs. Storing the links in a table and simply querying them allows for a simple interface that can be secured/modified withour haveing to change the page itself.

  • How can i run the example programme without hardware

    Hi,
We are using NI-9233 for our Project. We would like to run the example programme, the NI-9233 getting started(host).vi ... I would like to ask that how can i run the Programme without Hardware.& How shall i get the input signal (simulating signal)?because we would like to test it while we are waiting for the hardware to be delivered .

    Best regards

As Mike indicated , " you can use MAX to simulate some (not all) DAQmx devices. There's a NI-USB-9233 device that you can probably use. Open MAX, then expand "My System", the expand "Devices and Interfaces", then right-click on "NI-DAQmx Devices" and select "Create New NI-DAQmx Device -> NI-DAQmx Simulated Device". Select the device from the list. See the online help for MAX for further help.
If you don't see "NI-DAQmx Devices" in MAX you need to install NI-DAQmx. You can download it from NI here. "
    hi,
the link you gave me to download is "NI-DAQmx Devices" ... There is no software to download for Labview 8.2.1. So should i use 8.1 or 8.3 instead of 8.2.1 ? If not, can you tell me the CD no. that includes the "NI-DAQmx Devices" folder of Labview 8.2.1 version? Because we can get the cd from our school's component store. Thank you so much.

    Hi
This is a known issue addressed by CR205204
As you said, IBM actually does not have rt.jar in its JDK - they have moved contents of rt.jar into various jars.
IBM is not using org/apache/crimson/tree/ in their JDK at all.So the error shows up in the end of build even if it succeeds
You may need to add crimson.jar to wlwBuild classpath, since it is not part of IBMs JDK.
Note: the build will work even w/o crimson.jar giving a non build related IDE exception in the very end.
    Thanks

  • Deploy simple Labview applications without installing the Labview runtime?

    [Labview 8.21 - Windows XP]
Hello and a happy new year to all !
I have coded very simple Labview applications that basically read text files (exported from Ms Excel), make some string operations, array sorting and at the end write another text file that is then imported in Ms Access. Now I would like other people from the School parents association to use this application on their own PC but ideally without having to install the Labview run-time;  for various reasons one of them being that they are not administrator of their PC, another reason being that I feel bad to ask them to install 100Mb of programs on their PC to execute my <1Mb applications. All that I can assume is that they have Excel and Access installed on their PC.
I have read some postings on the Forum and in the Knowledge base from which I understand that the only way to use my application without the Labview runtime is to build a shared library that maybe I could then link via a VBA code from inside Excel or Access. But I cannot find any usable example on how to do that practically. And maybe it is not possible.
What is the easiest way to run such very simple Labview compiled applications on a PC that does not have Labview installed? Is Labview not at all built for such use?
Thanks a lot for your help and ideas.
    Christophe

You will need to have the runtime installed. There is a lot of other languages that also have the need for there own runtime, but they are commonly installed with the OS, so you don't realize it. Just building a dll won't solve this.
There might be a hack possible, though. People have managed to strip down the required installation and been able to deploy the required parts of the runtime only. If you want to go this way, search on LAVA. But I'm not sure if it works with LV 8.20, and you will need to invest some time to figure out the minimum requirements. But be aware that it is a hack, so it's on your own risk.

  • Java Web Start 1.6 fails to start application without Java Consol on Vista

    Hi All,
I've faced with problem related to starting my application in IE 7 on Vista SP1 using Java Web Start (JRE 1.6.0_12 and 1.6.0_13). I suppose that issue appears after 11th update of JRE 1.6 since it works fine before.
There were set settings to indicate initial and maximal size of the Java heap in the JNLP file.
Application consist of 2 JAR files and they are signed with the same certificate.
When user tried to start application there is no any activity after accepting certificate. After starting application javaw.exe just disappeared from processes list without any message or error.
When I changed default setting in Java Control Panel to show Java Console, I noticed that the application began to start. But it's not a solution of the issue, since all customers cannot be required to turn on Java console.
I believe this is a bug in JRE as the application starts with Java console and doesn't without it.
When I browsed the web looking for the solution or an advice I found Release notes for 1.6.0_014 where it was said that 6u14 Java Web Start failed to launch and notifies that JARs were not signed, if an insecure Java system property was specified in a sandbox JNLP file. In spite of that 14th updated wasn't used and there was no notification I tried to start application without settings for the Java heap and it worked.
Could someone help me with advice, since the application cannot be started with default heap size settings.
    Thanks in advance.
Edited by: vovanst on Jul 28, 2009 8:06 AM

    Hi,
as the 6u15 just arrived and the above mentioned bug should've been fixed (though I was unable to verify through the release notes), the error is still in there.
We have no timestamped jars, neither ours nor the bouncy castle ones, all certs are valid, ours is self signed.
    6u13 runs, 6u14/6u15 won't.
I followed the instructions here: http://bouncycastle.org/devmailarchive/msg10415.html to no avail.
The bcprov.jar is wrapped in its own jnlp and referred as extension from the "main" jnlp.
The interesting parts of the stack trace are these:
Caused by (via getCause): java.lang.SecurityException: JCE cannot authenticate the provider BC

         at javax.crypto.Cipher.getInstance(DashoA13*..)
         at javax.crypto.Cipher.getInstance(DashoA13*..)
For me it seems there's a problem with resolving the url of the bcprov.jar, which would explain the lack of a delay which normally occurs when JCE verifies the signature of the bcprov provider classes. The error pops up almost instantly.
I'm clueless what to do now. Did Sun really achieve to completely destroy JCE provider functionality in Javaws, forcing us to use an alternative implementation?
