Building dynamic LOV  using ADF components

Hi,
I am trying to do a dynamic LOV on an item data bound to an ADF component using UIX components. I have two LOVs and would like that on change of the first LOV my second LOV is populated based on my first LOV choice. How is the best way to do this?
Thanks,
Mia

Mia,
My suggestion would be to look into the Query Bind Params functionality of JHeadstart. The online help in the Application Structure File (it's a group level property) should help you along.

  • Problem - Creating a Dynamic LOV using duplicate value in select statement

    I am trying to create a Dynamic LOV by attempting to follow a pattern similar to the following:
    select shop_name d, shop_id r
    from shops
    order by 1
    However, I want to use the shop_name twice as in the following because I do not have any other unique identifier available such as a shop_id to associate with the shop name:
    select shop_name d, shop_name r
    from shops
    order by 1
    But I get an error where I am not allowed to duplicate the shop_name in the select statement. I read somewhere on this forum where it can be done but I can't find exactly how.
    Can someone tell or show me how to accomplish this?
    Thanks in anticipation for your answer.
    Thanks,
    Ric

    Ric,
    I just tried to do this on APEX 3.0, and it worked just fine with this SQL:
    select ename d, ename r from emp order by 1Perhaps you could put an example on apex.oracle.com or specify the error message that you're getting.
    So as long as you have uniquely aliased both columns, this should not present a problem.
    Thanks,

  • Help with building dynamic website using tutorial (was: I know this is a repost but I'm still stuck!)

    Perhaps this was missed by the group but here goes:
    I am slogging thru a dynamic PHP tutorial but  I cant continue without losing some understanding of the process due to ?
    I am trying to complete the following:
    Building your first dynamic website – Part 2: Developing the back end
    However,
    my Insert record form dialog (below) looks like this, and I need to change both 'title' and 'blog_entry' values (as shown above), but I cannot make that choice in my form.
    I am using DW CC with the Deprecated Server Behavior from DMX zone.
    I have made sure my results match the tutorial, but I cant get past the above inconsistency in functionality.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks folks!

    The Columns area indicates which form field is used to insert a value in each column. Although the post_id and updated columns are listed as getting no value, their values are generated automatically by the database.
    Check that the title and blog_entry columns are being assigned the correct values. If either is marked as getting no value, it means that you have spelled the names of the form fields differently from the column names. Correct this by selecting the column name in the Columns area and selecting the form field's name from the Value pop-up menu.

  • Managed bean can not be created. - dynamic menubar using ADF

    hi All,
    had to post the thread again to make sure it dint go un noticed!
    scenario:
    making dynamic menu navigation using ADFFaces, all steps followed as mentioned in SRDemo Sample. but still i get this error:
    error encountered:
    SEVERE:Managedbean menuItem_General could not be created.
    javax.faces.FacesException:Can't get value from value binding expression: '#{resources['erms.menu.gen']}'.
    more details here on last thread posted:
    ADF- managedbean creation error while making dynamic menus.
    plz help!

    We found the solution how it works... But its a little bit strange.
    Before we had the following on the sending part:
    connectionFactory = (ConnectionFactory) ctx.lookup("jmsfactory/default/FactoryName");
    destination = (Queue) ctx.lookup("jmsqueues/default/QueueName");
    We could not use EJB injection here as the place were it was used is a POJO.
    Now in our Job-Bean we do the following:
         @Resource(name="FactoryName")
         private ConnectionFactory connectionFactory;
         @Resource(name="QueueName")
         private Queue destination;
    and then we transfer the connection factory and queue to our POJO... and it works... From our understanding both should be the same???

    but in my case am populating the values in the checkbox using a webservice
    <af:selectManyCheckbox value="#{bindings.result.inputValue}" --- result is the list binding while adding a webservice to the data control

    Hi,
    as you need to persist the user change, you will need to have a look at MDS. See 31 at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/index-101235.html
    It has a createDepartments.jspx page that allows users to move the input text fields around. You can use code similar to the one used here to move panelBoxes

  • DYNAMIC LOV (list of value)

    Hi all,
    I have created a dynamic LOV using the sql statement:
    Select product_name A, product_code B from product.
    Can I make this LOV more dynamic by putting where conditions?
    For example:
    Select product_name A, product_code B from product where status = &STATUS
    &STATUS is a value from a given field as entered in a current form page.
    Is this possible? or are there other ways to to this?
    Thanks

    wow thats great sunil : )
    Can I also reference the value of P7_ITEM_NAME in anotheR item name like P7_COMMISSION?
    For example: I have two (2) item names: P7_SALARY and P7_COMMISSION
    P7_COMMISSION is computed as :P7_SALARY * 0.10
    So I do not have to enter value in the item name P7_COMMISSION as it is derived from P7_SALARY.
    Is this possible? if not why does LOV able to access it ; )
    Thanks a lot

  • ADF Components vs Trinidad Components licence

    Hi,
    Can I use ADF Components instead of Trinidad Components to deploy an application in Tomcat without to pay a licence?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    - Why is a preview release ? when we can get a production release ?
    Its not only ADF Faces but the full Fusion stack that makes the release train. The ADF Faces RC components may be in a better shape than some other components, but this doesn't make them earlier to ship. There is no date for the production release and until then we release technlogy previews. Hoe that production isn't too long away anyway
    - Oracle would give us technical support ?
    No. You can work with your local Oracle organization to see if - depending on the project - they will step in and help you with advice and hints, but there is no official support for the technology preview
    - How much the product and support cost ?
    If you use Oracle Application Server then the product licence is covered. Support is a separate contract and I suggest you get in touch with your local Oracle sales force to get the pricing for your case
    - There is a Oracle commercial plan for the future.
    There is no statement of directions available yet.
    - And how about Apache RFC Proposal ? when they will start ...
    As soon as possible. Its accepted and incubation can start when the sources are ready. Still, we have to go by the rules of the Apache community. I don't expect the open source community to have a first release before next year (with ADF Faces it took us almost 1 1/2 to get out of incubation)

  • Dynamic LOV on form in update mode

    I have a link to a portal form that specifies the primary key as below:
    Portal30.wwv_user_utilities.get_url(
    'application.form_link',
    'primary_id',to_char(id),
    '_primary_id_cond','=');
    This works well. I can access the form in update mode for the specified row. However, on the form I have 2 combo boxes: one is for make of vehicle and the other for model. The make combo box uses an lov derived from a simple table query. The model combo box is a dynamic lov using a query based upon the value of the model. When entering the form in update mode, it fails to set the make bind variable to anything, so the model is left blank with no options. How can I set the value of the make bind variable on the link so I can get the dynamic lov for the model to be populated correctly?
    (I have already tried to add the model to the url link, to no avail).
    null

    Hi noor,
    When I click the link button I am opening the userdefined form and filling the corresponding document number details manually.
    Do you mean, you're filling the form, field by field???
    If so you're doing it wrong. That way the form has no connection to the correct Database record and cannot update it.
    The correct way is as follows:
    Put a DocEntry field in your form and bind it to the DocEntry database field.
    Set this field to NOT Visible by default.
    When a user clicks the LinkButton, you change the form mode to FindMode, make the DocEntry field visible use the oForm.Items.Item("DocEntry").Specific.Value = "" method to set the correct value to the field (use the DocEntry number NOT the DocNum) and use the oForm.Items.Item("1").Click() to open the correct record.
    Then the user can change the value it needs without errors.

  • Help required building ADF-Swing/ADF-Faces using ADF Business Components

    My question is in regards to how you can go about building a light swing application to an ADF model?
    In particular if I were to say that we were developing a 3-tier project whereby we had a database tier, a series of EJB-ADF façade session beans to the database (middle-tier), and a swing client communicating with the session beans (view-controller tier), how would you go about developing these screens?
    In particular can we develop these screens using ADF-Faces and also ADF-Swing?
    The EJB session façade beans of course are ADF app modules with customised methods. The methods would return back customised DTO objects. These DTO objects are wrappers to row objects ADF would create. This would be mainly due to making these facade beans web service enabled (Oracle state that these methods cannot return oracle.jbo objects if they are to be web service enabled).
    This would be typically deployed to an app server, like Oracle App Server 10G.
    Could you please have a look at this, as I am doing a lot of research into this.
    eg. Taking example from oracle magazine sept/oct 2006
    with slight enhancements
    package oramag.frameworks.example.common;
    import oracle.jbo.ApplicationModule;
    import oramag.frameworks.customdto.EmployeeDTO;
    public interface HRService extends ApplicationModule {
    void deleteCurrentEmpAndCommit();
    EmployeeDTO findEmployee(int employeeId); // new method
    import oramag.frameworks.customdto.EmployeeDTO;
    public class HRServiceImpl extends ApplicationModuleImpl {
    public void deleteCurrentEmpAndCommit() {
    Row empRow = getEmpView().getCurrentRow();
    if (empRow != null) {
    empRow.remove();
    getDBTransaction().commit();
    public EmployeeDTO findEmployee(int employeeId)() {
    EmployeeDTO employeeDTO = null;
    EmployeesImpl employees = getEmployees();
    employees.setNamedWhereClauseParam("EmployeeId", employeeId);
    employees.executeQuery();
    if(employees.hasNext()) {
    EmployeesRowImpl employee = (EmployeesRowImpl)employees.next();
    employeeDTO = new EmployeeDTO(employee);
    return employeeDTO;
    public EmployeesImpl getEmployees() {
    return (EmployeesImpl)findViewObject("Employees");
    Now given the above code snippet, how could you turn this into an ADF-Swing/ADF Faces application so that if a user using the swing application enters an employee id, then the application will execute the query on the app server, the app server in turn returns the results to the client, and the client finally display the results. Typical MVC example.
    Cheers
    Rodney

    The tutorial is for ADF BC used with JavaServer Faces.
    While the tutorial doesn't cover it, we also support drag and drop development for Swing and visual WYSIWYG layout for Swing panels and windows, too. For a very simple example, watch screencast #4 on my blog here:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2005/06/24/jdeveloperAdfScreencasts.html
    One thing I have noticed is that when using ADF business components, when the app module returns a custom DTO object like the above example, it returns the data in a element structure according to the data control palette.
    You don't generally ever need to create your own custom DTO's when working with ADF for use by client UI's. The only situation where can be necessary -- until we simplify this in the JDeveloper/ADF 11g release -- is when you desire to expose custom methods that can return sets/arrays of typed row structures through a web service. However, web services are not involved/required in building 3-tier Swing applications.
    When dropping onto a page it does so like a string and doesnt give option to display the data in a read only form etc. Is there anything we need to do, to get the functionality.
    It's more of what you don't need to do :-)
    Just leverage the active data model that the ADF application module provides. You can read more about it in section 4.5 "Understanding the Active Data Model" of the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers on the ADF Learning Center at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html). Your UI's bind to view object instances in the data model, and your UI's are automatically kept up to date without needing to write methods that return data. I short article I wrote that preceeded my writing the ADF Developer Guide content on this topis is here:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2006/01/26/theAdfBusinessComponentsActiveDataModel.html
    I know that when dropping a view object you get this functionality. Also was wondering if we were to pass an object of thios type back to the model it might not give us the rich functionality like input forms, like what Oracle provides if we were to drop a enitity view object.
    Just use the active data model and everything becomes totally easy, with no changes required to switch between local or three-tier deployment configurations.
    Trying to do everything with hand-coded DTO beans is really going the hard way.
    Could you help us regarding this?

  • Creating dynamic LOV in form builder 6i

    Hi All,
    I am new to form builder.
    I want to create dynamic lov, means
    Project type
    Client
    Work_type(thsi is also lov) ->> 1) Billable
    Reason (this is also lov) ->> 1) Billable
    Work_type(thsi is also lov) ->> 2) Non-Billable
    Reason (this is also lov) ->> 1) Fresher
    2) Project Manager
    As shown above, Suppose the project type is client then I will select either "Billable" or "Non-Billable" value.
    If I am selecting Work_type LOV as "Billable" then it should display "Billable" value in reason LOV
    or if I am selecting Non-Billable value from Work_type LOV then reason LOV will display the list of value as Fresher and Project Manager.
    Please help me, its very urgent.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Bluetooth

    Bluetooth,
    This can be accomplished by creating two seperate record groups; one for Billable and one for Non-Billable. Then - in the WORK_TYPE When-Validate-Item (WVI)trigger - when the value is "Billable" you assign the Billable Record Group to your LOV or if the value is Non-Billable, then you assign the Non-Billable record group to your LOV. Your Record Group queries must return the same number of columns and the column names must match. If your record groups need to have a different number of columns and column names, then I would just use two seperate LOV's and assign them to the item accordingly. For example:
    /* Sample WVI trigger */
    DECLARE
      lov_id    LOV;
      item_id   ITEM;
    BEGIN
      lov_id := Find_LOV('YOUR_LOV_NAME');
      /* Option 1: Change Record Group of LOV */
      IF ( :YOUR_BLOCK.WORK_TYPE = 'BILLABLE' ) THEN
        IF ( Get_LOV_Property(lov_id, GROUP_NAME) != 'BILLABLE_RG' ) THEN
          Set_LOV_Property(lov_id, GROUP_NAME, 'BILLABLE_RG');
        END IF;
      ELSIF ( :YOUR_BLOCK.WORK_TYPE = 'NONBILLABLE' ) THEN
        IF ( Get_LOV_Property(lov_id, GROUP_NAME) != 'NONBILLABLE_RG' ) THEN
          Set_LOV_Property(lov_id, GROUP_NAME, 'NONBILLABLE_RG');
        END IF;
      END IF;
      item_id := Find_Item('YOUR_BLOCK.REASON');
      /* Option 2: Seperate LOV's */
      IF ( :YOUR_BLOCK.WORK_TYPE = 'BILLABLE' ) THEN
        IF ( Get_Item_Property(item_id, LOV_NAME) != 'BILLABLE_LOV' ) THEN
          Set_Item_Property(item_id, LOV_NAME, 'BILLABLE_LOV');
        END IF;
      ELSIF ( :YOUR_BLOCK.WORK_TYPE = 'NONBILLABLE' ) THEN
        IF ( Get_Item_Property(item_id, LOV_NAME) != 'NONBILLABLE_LOV' ) THEN
