Burning a music CD in iTunes produces a still blank CD

I've been trying to burn music CDs from iTunes. I click the "burn CD" button and the program responds and goes through the whole process of burning the CD. The CD even appears in the iTunes sidebar. Unfortunately, when I eject the CD, the CD is still blank and surface has not been altered. If I re-insert the CD into my computer, it shows up as a blank CD. I have also experienced problems burning files to CDs from Finder. Somebody please help.

the last time I tried to burn a cd from itunes, my system crashed and my optical (a new dual layer superdive installed less than a year ago) died... I haven't a clue what happened!
I ended up buying an external and though itunes recognizes it, when I try to burn an audio cd (mp4 to aiff), it goes through the entire process of 'seemingly' converting the files, the cd shows ALL the information, even when re-inserted into the drive... but there's NO actual information on the disc. It 'appears to play' but no sound comes out and there's no activity in the equalizer at all.
On external cd players, one player did the exact same thing and another just refused to even see the cd as readable.
I've also tried burning from Toast, which ALWAYS worked in the past, with the same result.
What's the point of purchasing music in itunes if I can't burn the music to cd?
has anyone been able to solve this?
thanks... namaste

One other thread said it was fixed by waiting till prompted by iTunes to insert the blank disk, instead of putting it in first. Does that work? Found a number of hits on this Googling.

  • How do I burn a Music CD on iTunes 8.2?

I see no burning tab in iTunes preferences, what am I doing wrong? Please provide simple instructions. Thanks.

Make a playlist of the music that you want to burn.
Go to the bottom of the page and click "Burn Disc"
You could also go to the help feature in itunes and type "burn disc" and it will tell you how.

  • How can I burn an audio CD in iTunes with my music library on an external drive?

I keep my entire music library on an external hard drive. I just tried to burn a playlist in iTunes, and iTunes goes through all of the motions (asks for a blank cd, says it's burning) and then it says "Finishing burning" for a while. Then iTunes tells me I have a blank CD in my computer.
I fear the issue is that the music is not on my computer. However, I've added all of the music folders to iTunes, and it plays them off of my external hard drive.
    Please help! Thanks.

Great suggestion.  I had quickly considered burning a disc outside of iTunes with Burnz only to learn that trial period had ended.  So...thanks to your 2x4 blow to my head, I tried a Finder burn and got an error, too: The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.  Doing a big of research indicates this might be simply a dust problem in my MacBook and can be resolved with some compressed air.  Checking my toolbox shortly and I'll report back!  Thanks!

  • ITunes 9 will not burn a music CD that can play on a CD player

Ever since I upgraded to Itunes 9 I cannot copy (burn) a music CD that can be played on any CD player device other than the MacBook. I tried changing the format preference from .aif to .mpg4a but it still only creates CD's that cannot play. I am not pirating anything. I copied my own bought retail music CD's onto the MacBook and gave away the CD's to eliminate clutter. In the past I have been able to copy them for my own use for the car or the bedroom where there is no computer available. This is so frustrating. Please help!

does the format of the original song make a difference? for instance, if the data is mp3 data, but you try to burn an audio cd, will that mess it up? I dunno. it didn't use to, I dont think. I have no idea about iTunes9
You could convert the songs to .aif in QuickTime before hand just to make sure iTunes9 isn't messing it up.

  • MetaData lost when burning to cd/transfer music to another itunes library

Ok so I am fairly certain this is a deep seeded issue. This is not an iTunes specific version or OSX specific version problem. It is cross system and happens on multiple different computers/variations.
Here is the problem I am experiencing.
    BASIC PROBLEM
    1. Create music track with Digital Performer.
    2. Export as AIFF
    3. Add to library of iTunes
    4. Make sure all track names and files names match in both the iTunes window and in the Finder.
    5. "Get Info" on file in iTunes and add all required MetaData (Artist, track, genre, etc...)
    6. Burn all tracks to a Data CD using iTunes.
    7. Insert CD into a separate Apple G5 and "add to library" in iTunes
    8. Some MetaData comes in fine with all artist, track etc...some songs have zero metadata and are labeled "untitled" with no genre or artist etc...
Based on much research and trial/error I have come to the conclusion that something is happening with OS X Finder/Operating System. If you "Get Info" on the AIFF file in the finder and you look under the "More Info" pane you will see some files have all the artist info, track info etc...and others have nothing under the "More Info" pane. The AIFF files that are burned to a data cd and then added to a new library that do come with metadata also have the correct data under the "my info" pane. The AIFF files that DO NOT come through and have no metadata also have no data under "more info" pane. This is the only difference between all of these files. The MetaData in iTunes is all correct but the Finder tells a different story when looked at under "More Info". So again to recap...
    1. AIFF w/metadata under "more info" shows up correctly
    2. AIFF without/metadata under "more info" shows up incorrectly
    Do not suggest the following.
    1. Change format to MP3..these are going to music libraries and producers...they all require .AIFF
    2. Burn a "Music CD"...all libraries and producers require "Data CDs"..so "Music CD" is out of the question
Thank you in advance to all who reply to my thread.

Burning a CD just to move files from one computer to another? That is like totally 20th century.
Just copy the file to a flash drive, and then from the flash drive to the other computer.
If both computers are running iTunes and on the same home network, you don't even need the flash drive. Just use iTunes Home Sharing.
If you absolutely must have CD, you can burn it from Finder.

  • Is it possible to burn a cd from music in my itunes?

I want to burn a cd from my itunes account.  I do not see a way to do it.  Could someone please help?  I am using a pc with windows 7.  Thanks in advance.

    Yes.
Just go ahead and burn the DVD which will finish up with whatever aspect the project is.
A 16:9 aspect ratio has nothing to do with hi-def,  it's just that hi-def in the last 10 years has adopted that ratio but it was used long before then, together with 4:3, for standard def DV.

  • Using music purchased from iTunes in a slideshow/DVD

I purchased some music from iTunes to use for a slideshow that I am creating. I want to burn this slideshow to a DVD. Is this possible? I read in another forum that it was not. If this is correct, is there a way to work around this issue?

Finding "a way to work around this issue" goes directly against the terms of usage for the forums in terms of discussing ways to get around copy protection methods.
I would offer that my asking for a way to "work around" the problem may not have been the best choice of terms. It is one that is frequently used in other forums when users are discussing how to solve a problem. However, my intent was not to violate either copyright laws or the terms of use of this forum. Certainly it would be very foolish indeed to ask how to do so in a discussions site operated by the same company that produces the software in question!
The DVD I am working on is for personal use, a slideshow of a family vacation. I purchased the music from iTunes to use in the DVD. I am aware that I can burn several CD's (5?) for each song I buy. I concluded, perhaps incorrectly, that this DVD would constitute one of the allowed burns.
Copyrighted music is handled differently depending on which iLife application is being used. With Garageband, it is impossible to import DRM music into the program; any editing is obviously out of the question. Yet, the same musical selection can be imported into iMovie, and it is also possible to edit it.
Perhaps my question should be: Do I have to follow any special procedure when burning a DVD that contains music purchased from iTunes? I remember seeing something about this some time ago; I have not been able to find that post. I was hoping to get the answer in this forum.

  • Error 4280 for Matshita UJ-831Da - Burn no longer works w/  iTunes.

    23 Dec 07
    MY SYSTEM:
    Sony laptop
    CD/DVD drv = Matshita UJ-831Da
    iTunes ver. 7.5.0.20
    PROBLEM:
    1. Burn quit working when iTunes upgraded to 7.2.
    2. I now get Error 4280.
    3. The only change was an upgrade to iTunes.
    4. No other software, or OS, changed on the system.
    5. Burn always worked with old ver. of iTunes.
    6. Burn still works with Win Media Player.
    7. Burn still works with all other software.
    8. iTunes will not upgrade itself now, nor allow "down"grade.
    9. Slowing burn speed does not eliminate error 4280.
    10. "Run Diagnostics" causes whole system to freeze and crash.
    11. Creating new account on system does not eliminate error 4280
    12. Creating new account on system does not eliminate freeze / crash.
    13. I have credit with iTunes store that cannot be used until fixed.
    QUESTION:
This is an Apple iTunes ONLY software problem. What is the fix?
    Thanks,

For my Matshita UJ-831Da CD/DVD drive, the driver version showing in device manager is 5.1.2535.0. I just now clicked on "update driver" and the reply was that a newer version could not be found.
But why would doing a "Run Diagnostics" in iTunes now freeze / crash my whole system when it never did before? It only began doing that after it also began failing to burn CDs. Again, the iTunes software is the only software that has ceased to burn CDs.
Several months ago, I finally reached by phone a girl at Apple tech support who first denied there were any known problems. But when I told her that the web was full of thousands of people screaming about this very issue she recanted and admitted that iTunes was having these problems, that they had posted the fix for some of the other CD/DVD drives but not mine. She then said, "but if you pay $35 I'll tell you how to fix it." Absolutely unethical. That's like buying a car then being told that there's now an extra fee for being told how to start it. She may have lied about knowing what the fix is, but either way it's absolutely unethical.
The problem is iTunes. iTunes changed and now won't drive the same current drive it worked with when iTunes accepted my money, in advance, to purchase and burn music at future dates. iTunes should fix the problem.
I'm willing to go through the leg-work, to try all of Apple's instructions here, but Apple also needs to follow through with this.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Getting music from one iTunes account to another on the same iMac computer

I have a iMac and my family all use it. We all have our own profile/account logins. My daughter has her own iTunes account (but with my credit card) and i have my own itunes on my own login profile account with the same cc # and expiray date/etc.... She insists on having her own account and to have her own music on her own ipod touch. I have my own ipod touch. However, I want some of the music that is on her account on to my account (and thus my own ipod). I am the 'administrator'of the iMac.
I don't want to have to pay for the same songs/albums twice. My daughter doesn't understand this whole concept of saving money and paying for things more than once.
I also don't want to burn her music onto a CD and then import onto my account for several reasons: it is a hassle as well as i may not be able to have the cover art if i do it this way. Can anyone suggest what to do?

Log into her account and open iTunes.
Select the songs you want in iTunes, then drag them to \Users\yourusername\Public\Drop Box\.
Quit iTunes, log out of her account and back into your account.
    Open iTunes.
File -> Add to library and select \Users\yourusername\Public\Drop Box\.
Or move those files to \Music\iTunes\iTunes media\Automatically add to iTunes\ folder.

I did this already and after that I geet the screen with an option to download ITP ( I already have)
    any help here?

If you're just trying to merge multiple iTunes libraries, you can use Apple's Homeshare feature. You will need at least two computers and just sign in to the account you want to keep on your newest Mac. Then sign in to one of the other accounts on another laptop and turn Homeshare on on both computers. You should be able to drag over the music files you want onto your new iTunes library. Then just rotate through the accoutns on the second computer or just rotate through the computers that the accounts are on.
Not sure if this is what you're trying to do. But I do agree with varjak paw that you can't merge accounts, but you could try to move everything into one library.
