Burning from iphoto--failing why?

I selected two albums that I just want to burn photo's to so I can get them on another PC. I selected the albums...had PLENTY OF ROOM since I'm using a DVD that I usually burn movies on....it gets almost complete and then fails.
Am I doing something wrong or is something wrong with iphoto and my superdrive? Its the first time trying to burn photo's within iphoto.
Thanks,
sheryl

Sheryl:
Is that DVD a -RW disk? If the files will fit on a CD I suggest you export them to the folder on the desktop and then burn that folder to a CD using the Finder. It'll be a much quicker burn and more reliable as RW disks have a greater propensity for problems than an CD-R disk.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • My book from iPhoto failed (error box) after 2h. 25m. download process

My book from iPhoto failed (error box) after 2h. 25m. download process.
I'm afraid to start the download process again without knowing why it had an error the first time.
    What should I do?

    Thank for the information…
Unfortunately, even if I delete iPhoto 1.1.1 from my hard rive I still receive the same error when I attempt to install 2.0, “You cannot continue. There is nothing to install”.
I did notice that the installation dialogue seems to be correct with the exception that I am not prompted to type in an administrative password (although I am currently logged in as an administrator).
Is there something I am missing?

  • Import from iphoto fails every time.

Import from iphoto fails every time.

It should not be a serious flaw, since this something that you only do ONCE. You don't want to use both organizer and iphoto. You'll have two sets of photos with no knowledge of each other. Import from iphoto is not meant to be a regular use item, only for the one time after you've decided organizer is what you prefer. It's fine to make a small test catalog while you decide whether iphoto or organizer suits you better, but to keep on using both is going to make you crazy in short order.

  • Is there a specific disc that will allow a 2nd burn from iPhoto?

I bought CD-RW discs thinking I would be able to burn from iPhoto to the same disc several times to back up my pictures but that's not the case.  Is there an iPhoto setting or a specific disc I need to use in order to do this?  Or do I need to wait to burn to a disc until I have enough to fill it? Thank you!

That's not how RW disks work. You're trying to append to the existing data on the disk. RW disks allow you to wipe and reburn on to the disk, not append.

  • Burn from iphoto keeps failing

hi. i'm trying to burn photos onto a dvd directly from iphoto. i've never had a problem doing this before. when i do it this time- it says it's verifying and then burning but then at the end it says the burn failed, and if i insert the dvd into the computer again- it just keeps making a noise and won't eject. i am able to burn a disc of images exported as jpegs onto my desktop, so i know something is working. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Because nothing else works on a MAC!
    Twaddle:
Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, JetPhoto, Expression etc etc. And that's just off the top of my head. Try searching on MacUpdate.
Also, both machines are 10.6.4 and totally up to date!
The version of iPhoto is what matters, not the version of the OS.
"The iPhoto Library is on a locked volume....
Often a symptom of a damaged Library, or of attempts at multiple access to a Library and so on.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • CD burn from iPhoto 9.1 failing

    Open iphoto 9.1
    select recent project
    Share menu -> Burn
    Choose Speed: Max
    Verify Burned data
    Mount on Desktop
    Click Burn.
A small blue bar drops down from iPhoto for 1/4 second and then slides back up to the top.
    Nothing else happens.
    CD is not burned
CD is no longer on the desktop.

What is your 'project' and it's size etc?
Try burning at a much slower speed also as this often has an effect.

  • Importing from iPhoto fail

I am new to Photoshop and just installed Photoshop Elements 11 on my Mac OS X.  Everytime I try to import photos from iPhoto the import process will go through until it is almost finished, then a notification will pop up saying that the import failed. Once I click "OK" on that dialogue box a new box will pop up saying that a few (6) pictures were unable to be imported for various reasons, but that the rest of my pictures were imported.  I am then unable to find any pictures anywhere in Photoshop Elements.  I have tried to import photos 7 or 8 times with the same result everytime.  How can I fix this so that I can begin to use Photoshop?

Yes, you can use iphoto with PSE but you don't really want to use both organizer and iphoto. If you want to make a test catalog to try organizer, export some photos from iphoto, put them where you want to keep them and use File>Get Photos>from files and folders. Eventually you will want to choose one or the other, since having two separate management systems that don't know anything about each other will drive you crazy.
If you want to use iphoto with the PSE editor you have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor in the iphoto preferences and send the photos from iphoto. You need to select this file, since this is the actual PSE editor:
You want to save, not save as in PSE when you do this. If you see the Save As window it's not going to work, so you need to save your changes without changing the name or format of the image. Then iphoto will remember your latest saved edits + the original file, although you have to lose the edited version to get back to the original. You may need to go to the editor preferences>Saving files and set On First Save to save over existing to make this work.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use file>Open in the editor to open the photos for editing, make any changes you like and then re-import the edited photos back to iphoto as new files. The advantage of this is that you can save as many different states of your image as you like, and you always have access  to your original photo.

  • Facebook photos will be deleted from iPhoto?  Why and How do I stop it?

How can I prevent my photos and albums on iPhoto from being deleted on Facebook?
I am using my iphoto offline and deleting photos but there is a warning about facebook photos wil be deleted as well.
I don´t want to lose all my photos that I posted while traveling.

Thaty is the way it works  --  changes in albums posted to Facebook from iPhoto or kept in sync - changes made in either place are reflected in the other
to avoid this you can change your factboo password and quit using iPhoto to post to Facebook
You can upload diretly to Facebook using Safari rather that iPhto in the future

  • Dvd burned from iPhoto not open

I burned the images of iPhoto on dvd.
When I try to open the dvd a message says: "the library of iPhoto is in a protected volume: Restart iPhoto with access reading/writing or restart with option key".
    Nothin happens. Why???

You're accessing it wrong. You don't try open that Library, instead you open iPhoto normally and the disk appears in the iPhoto Window.
    Or
Copy the library from the DVD to your HD. Then open it.

  • Backup CD's burned from iPhoto require updating EVERYTIME they're inserted!

When I insert a CD that contains albums that I burned as backup from an older version of iPhoto and try opening them in iPhoto 6, I'm stuck watching an "updating photos" dialog box for the next 5+ minutes. To add insult to injury, this happens EVERYTIME I insert this CD.
I don't need to import these pictures again, I just needed to access some old ones that I backed up. Is this really how iPhoto works??? Am I to believe that when I backup photos in iPhoto 6 then try to open them in iPhoto 8 (somewhere down the road) that I will experience the same thing??? Please tell me I'm missing something here.

No one really knows the shelf life of CDs and DVDs yet, especially the ones we burn ourselves. I've seen estimates as low as 5 years for DVDs. But what is certain - they do degrade and are not permanent.
All backups, no matter what the media, must be regularly maintained and updated. It's the nature of the beast. Consider the variables: media formats, computer systems, interfaces. I've got a perfectly good, 8-year-old hard drive storing some precious info, but what good will it do me if I can't find a computer that uses the right kind of cable to connect it? I remember when USB was brand new. [What came before USB, anyway?] And what about that little Basic program I wrote in 1987 and stored on a 5-inch floppy?
I would not expect the CDs I burn today be of any use 5 years from now. It would be great if they were, but who's to say for how long personal computers will still be reading optical discs? The next great innovation could be just around the corner.
Okay, I'm on a soapbox, to be sure. And the matter at hand was much more simple than where I'm taking it here. But maybe you get my point: backups will need updating, at periodic intervals and after any major software or hardware change, no matter how you create them.
[Step off soapbox. Exit stage left.]

  • Burning from IPhoto

I have prepared a slide presentation with three different songs from iTunes. When I preview it in iPhoto, the music is all there. When I burn it to iDVD and play it back, only one song shows up. What am I doing wrong?

I tried making a soundtrack last night after reading this post. I made the soundtrack, it worked in iDVD when I previewed it (when importing the music didn't work) and then tonight I burned the dvd. The sound quality is horrible - echoes, instrumental louder than the vocals. I am very discouraged and ready to give up! Am I just missing something obvious?
One workaround is to make a slideshow soundtrack by
making a single long track of music from purchased or
    regular music:
    1) Burn your desired playlist to CD in iTunes.
    2) Make sure you have itunes Preferences set to "just
open the CD and not automatically play or import the
    songs."
    3) Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open.
    4) Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to
join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
    5) Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
    6) When done, make a new playlist named after the
    slideshow.
    7) Put the new combined track into the playlist.
    8) In iPhoto, select this playlist for your
    slideshow.
You can also Share/Export the slideshow to Full
Quality DV; import the resulting Quicktime movie into
iMovie and add the music there (or do the whole
slideshow in iMovie). If you have Quicktime Pro, you
can Share/Export the slideshow (like above), but then
open the resulting Quicktime movie in QTPro, and
copy/paste your music from within Quicktime.
(Thanks to John Keller for typing all of this out in
    a previous post!)

  • Since upgrading to Lion, my PC recipients are not receiving photos I attach to the email sent from iphoto. Why?

Since I upgraded to Lion, my photos are not attached to emails. Example: I select photos in iphoto, click Share and send the email.
Recipients tell me that there is 'nothing attached, no photo attached."  Can you help?

This doesn't work for me at all. I tried entering exactly the same information that I used to set up my regular email account and I'm still getting an error message. I even tried switching to using my gmail account and neither one worked. Then it got hung up and had to repair my database! I have a lot of photos on my Mac (thank goodness they're backed up) and I was really sweating it for a moment.
Apple is so easy until it's not. I find this to be really aggrevating and I'm irritated that it hasn't been fixed. In fact I did an online search and someone described this same problem in detail and it was exactly what was happening to me. Same error messages.
I'm frustrated that Apple keeps updating it's operating system and then we go through these glitches.
And while I'm at it, I have never had such a frustrating time using my login information as I have to get into this forum! Why do they make it so difficult? There's just something about the way it's worded that get's me messed up every time. Meanwhile, at least get iPhoto fixed!

  • Sharing photos from iphoto 11, why does the photo information not upload when I click with share via email?  How can I make sure the photo information and location are shared when the photo (s) are shared.

When I go to share photos in iPhoto 11, The photos transfer to the email I'm sending but the photo information and location don't.  The older version of iPhoto did it, why not this version?  What am I missing in the process of sharing via email?, Thank You.

When you share to email do you get the following dialogue:

  • Multi or Open session CD burning from iPhoto

I stumbled upon this quest in iPhoto, but it could apply to all iLife or Apple CD/DVD-burning equipped apps that use the burn icon.
Where is the burning preference to set multi-session (or open session) before clicking the shutter icon to burn, for example, an album of pictures in iPhoto?
In helping a Window's friend, who brings me her digital camera to download her pictures and burn a CD. There is usually only 10-20MBs worth of photos on her camera each time. I'd like to keep the session open on a CD-R to keep adding to the disc in lieu of burning (wasting) a new disc each time.

    Hi Scott,
multi session burning is not supported within iPhoto.
I suggest you import her images using Image Capture. The default location for the downloaded images is loose within the Pictures folder. Once you set up Image Capture you can click the options button to create a new folder to download the images too. You can then use this folder to burn your multisession CD.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.
