  • Tools for business analysis

    Dear All,
I work as an IT business analyst in the retail domain (IS retail), currently I do not use any tools in my routine day to day work when gathering business requirements except for VISIO for process mapping.
I seek guidance regarding the tools available, its importance to my career and access to learning material or any other details that may be of use.
In short, how can I improve my competency in this field of business analysis?
Looking fwd for replies at the earliest
    Thanks.

    Arun,
Your role as a IT business analyst in the retail domain has a suite of tools and activities to work on to improve the performance of your team, organisation and process.
You are responsible for the business process improvement in your organisation ! In a more quality language, I would rather call it continual improvement.
You should become a Business Proces Expert (BPX) and this role should evolve (has evolved) from Business Analyst and has strong focus on tools, technology and implementation methodology.
Business Analysts used to focus on one application like SAP R/3 before, however today, in SAP NetWeaver, they need to understand many more components, need to implement end-to-end processes that run across multiple systems and between your partners.
There are more tools and that are listed below:
    1) SAP Solution Manager
    2) SAP Exchange Infrastructure ( eg.,Business Process modeling )
    3) Visual Composer (build analytics) MDM (Master Data Management)
    4) ARIS for Netweaver, toolset from IDS Scheer for achieving process orientation
You should assess your technical capabilities and fill in the holes (that more interest you) with some targeted training in NetWeaver, Composite Application Framework or Visual Composer.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers
    Senthil

I have table like above and needs to  get incentive flags, quarter, total successfully billed, not successfully billed next quarter, not successfully billed but active by next quarter, not  successfully billed and inactive by next quarter
I designed the query but  difficult to test is this working fine or not
    SELECT
    t1.incentive_flag
    ,t1.year
    ,t1.quarter
    ,total_successfully_billed=COUNT(t1.customer_id)
    ,not_successfully_billed_next_quarter=SUM(CASE

    END)
    FROM
    #successbilled customers table
    GROUP
    BYt1.incentive_flag
    ,t1.year
    ,t1.quarter

    Hi,
Your second approach can be recomposed as below.
    use testDB
    CREATE TABLE successfullybilled([year] VARCHAR(4),[quarter] INT, q_end_date DATE,customer_id INT, incentive_flag INT, active_date DATE,inactive_date DATE,max_q_end_date DATE);

  • Impact Analysis: Business Area, Profit Center changed for Sales Order type

    Hi All,
Can you please let me know the impact of changing the Business Area and Profit Center for Sales Order Document types.
    Scenario:
Let's say that sales document type ZOR has been used for sometime. On this document x number of sales orders have been raised, delivered and invoiced over the years.
Now, if you change the Business Area and Profit Center what would be the business impact.
    thanks,

    Hi,
First of all itu2019s not a good business practice to change the Business area and Profit Centre.
However if at all l you change the Business area and Profit centre the following is the impact::
Business Area: effects the sales order in accounts assignment at Header level.
Profit centre: effects the accounting part at Item level
Overall in MIS reporting w.r.t Profit and Business Analysis in Finance will be affected.
    Thanks and regards

  • Business Analyst

    Hi all,
I am doing my masters dissertation on " The impact of visual composer upon Business requirements gathering and evaluating the ability of Netweaver suite of tools will help the Business analyst role."
Can any one help me regarding this, by giving any information or resources.
    Thanks in advance
    regards
    prudhvi

    Hi,
No-one seems to have picked this up and so I'll offer my views.
You need two attributes to be a Business Analyst.
    1. Relevant experience - which you have
    2. Training in the concepts and principles of Business Analysis.
I would recommend that you focus on learning the concepts and principles of Business Analysis. You can self-teach the concepts, but the learning the principles is harder and I would recommend going on a course for that. There are many around and - surprise, surprise! - my company offers an excellent one called Fundamentals of Business Analysis geared at people just like you. In four days you learn about being a Business Analysis from project inception through requirements capture, process and data models to managing your analysis products through to delivery. Its a course geared at making you an active Business Analyst rather than a specialist in any one methodology (they all cover the same ground, and are variations on the basic BA themes).
There are BA qualifications but - as a practicing BA myself - I have never needed them. This is an emerging profession and standards are not rigorously applied. Experience and an understanding of the concepts and principles should be enough to get you to your next role as a (Senior?) Business Analyst. And in my experience of recruiting BAs having the experience, theory and principles will put you in the top 5% of analysts immediately.
Please visit www.ba-solutions.co.uk for more info and/or contact me should you wish to discuss further.
    Kind regards,
    Guy

  • Automotive  - SAP business process certificate

    Hi everyone,
I am a newbie to SAP and i am interested in BPM. I have a strong background in business analysis and project management but with little SAP implementation project experience.
I am interested in the Automotive Industry to obtain the new SAP business process expert certification.
Can anyone point me in the right direction in relation to the following?
Automotive (CKD or OEM) SAP solutions/modules
business process modelling tools in relation to SAP
advice on how to break into the BPM career from an SAP perspective.
    Thanks
    Nader Hanafy

    Hi Hanafy,
Giving a pointwise reply to ur queries. Hope this helps.
Automotive (CKD or OEM) SAP solutions/modules- Please visit the link https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/bpx/automotive. Ithink it will bea good starting point.
business process modelling tools in relation to SAP- There are many modelling tools available but I would recommend ARIS which is mostly widely used. Please visit  www.ids-scheer.com
advice on how to break into the BPM career from an SAP perspective. BPM is a very niceh area in conjuction to SAP projects. I hope u are aware of SAP  implemenattion phases. BPM is emerging as a must do step before business blueprinting which is the core of any implementation. ARIS can be well integrated with SAP solution Manager and SAP is promoting this in a very big way. there are sucess stories for these which I can share with you.
