Business catalyst cost confusion!

Hi guys,
I am a little be confused with business catalyst costs!
I have a yearly Adobe cloud membership !
Could anyone explain if 5 sites could be hosted in business catalyst (no trial versions) and that's included in the cloud membership price?
and if I want 5 mores or 10 sites ?
There is a cusiness catalyst membership pricelist but I don't understand wha't Adobe means with "users" nothing about how many sites in that membership!
here is the pricing http://www.businesscatalyst.com/pricing/monthly
but is it for individuals, just for one site, for already cloud members ? Missing infos...
Could you please help me understand?
AA

Hello,
Along with a yearly subscription of Creative Cloud you get 5 free site (on WebBasics Plan).
If you wish to upgrade the site plan then you would need to purchase that Site plan. Or  if you want to have 5 more sites, depending on  the siteplan you choose for those sites, you would need to pay for those site plans.
Now the cost and features included in the different site plans is mentioned on thispage : http://www.adobe.com/products/business-catalyst/buying-guide.html
The cost mentioned is per site. So if you have 3 sites on webMarketing plan (On monthly basis) you would be charged US$18.88 per month x3. The users mentioned there are the number of Admin users you can add to the site (who have access to the Admin panel/backend of the site).
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Sachin

  • Need information on the art of the possible with Business Catalyst

    Hi
My wife is setting up an online Business that will sell downloadable language resources (for learning foreign languages). These will include worksheets, soundfiles, and also animations (that are being done by a separate animator).
I am a 'rusty' Java developer and have said that I would do the IT for her.
We have purchased an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription as she is doing the worksheets in InDesign, and they will be sold as PDF's.
I have mocked up the beginnings of a website with Muse, but was intending to use that for getting the look and feel right, then replicating it in Java and HTML5.
However, today I started looking a Business Catalyst and seeing what it could do, but I am confused about it.
Would I be able to sell downloadable items using the eCommerce features?
Can I set up a mock shop on the free BC site?
How much does the eCommerce upgrade actually cost? Like I said, we are a Creative Cloud subscriber.
There will be some features that I will need to code, perhaps talking to another database, I understand that you can call out from the app to your own webservices etc?
    Thanks for any help.
    matt

    Hi Matt,
BC sounds like a good solution for you from the little bit you shared.
Do you mean javascript or java? Java doesn't run on BC as FYI.
    Here are your answers:
Would I be able to sell downloadable items using the eCommerce features?
Yes you can. BC allows you to have media downloads for purchase.
Can I set up a mock shop on the free BC site?
Yes, you can start a free trial site that will allow you build and try out BC. Once you are ready to go live with the site you would pay to upgrade the site to a live site.
How much does the eCommerce upgrade actually cost? Like I said, we are a Creative Cloud subscriber.
The price is $38.88 per month (USA pricing. AU differs - more info here on pricing: US Monthly Pricing | Adobe Business Catalyst ) with Creative Cloud you have five basic sites with BC but to "upgrade" you pay the regular price for BC sites.
There will be some features that I will need to code, perhaps talking to another database, I understand that you can call out from the app to your own webservices etc?
There are APIs that allow you to talk to other services and send information back to BC.
You can find more answers by reading the KB: BC Help & support
On a side note, if you need help getting started with Business Catalyst I would happily offer my services. Send me a PM if you need additional help.

  • Business Catalyst is more than Muse

Just in case anyone feels worried about BC when they watch or are watching the Creative Cloud Live event...
Adobe event, they have their software, one is Muse which works with BC. They are covering A LOT of products in a relative short time, this is just a launch event, get people excited and show up the basics stuff.
So do not think BC is just being Muse, It wont.

    Hi Liam,
I just saw in a related adobe forum this Adobe employee response about Muse and using BC as a CMS system:
    1. Apr 23, 2012 12:01 PM (in response to Wild Bucky)
Correct AnswerRe: A New Muse User
    Hi Wild Bucky,
Login capabilities or user specific private content as part of a Content Management System are not features currently available in Muse. CMS features will not be part of the Muse 1.0 release. We intend to add CMS features to Muse in the future that will work with Adobe's Business Catalyst platform. Business Catalyst already has CMS features (see http://www.businesscatalyst.com/product-tour/overview for more info), but Muse isn't yet able to take advantage of them natively.
    Best regards,
    Corey
I believe I also saw another post talking about adding eCommerce functionality to Muse.
I was wondering your take on this. It concerns me as it dilutes my message that as a BC Partner I can provide more robust functionality than product like that. I'm surprise to hear that the road map may include allowing Muse to natively create deep functionality and confusion that will happen trying to explain to a client why a Partner BC site would be more appropriate than a Muse site.
    Your thoughts?

  • Business Catalyst

    Hi,
I've been a partner with Business Catalyst for a number of years now and have numerous sites with them. As part of the Creative Cloud membership it says I can have 5 sites. I currently pay for all my sites with BC so I guess my question is:
Will the next 5 sites I make live not cost me anything, or can I convert 5 of my existing sites to free ones? Also is there a type of site that's included or can you have all the modules? I've tried to find more information on this on the Adobe site and not found it.
    Thanks,
    Adam

The 5 free sites are webBasic sites and at this time you cannot upgrade them (though that feature is coming).

  • How do i install business catalyst and typekit with creative cloud if they don't show up?

I just recently signed up for creative cloud and learned about muse.  I would like to take advantage of the business catalyst and typekit, but when i open my application manager, neither are available for download.  Am I missing something here?  are they built into the other program downloads?  I'm confused–please help.

    Am I missing something here?
Yes, you are. They are merely services built into Dreamweaver, Edge and Muse and accessible via the respective BC and CSS panels in those programs.

  • Business Catalyst Folders and Module Manager Feature

    Hi,
I have created a Business Catalyst Site using the extension in Dreamweaver. I am a new Creative Cloud member. I have also viewed many tutorials.
    I don't seem to have the full range of folders in the test temporary BC site I have created I dont recall seeing these folders when I created the site. I am missing;
    Web apps
    Modules
    CRM
    E- Commerce
    E-Mail Marketing
I was particularly interested in module templates for photo galleries but I don't seen to have this feature. When I am in the BC Admin Console viewing a web page and select the module manager (blue circle with a + sign)  I was expecting a list to appear on the right hand side.
The grey module manager button also does not seem to be available.
I would rather not create a new site as I have done a fair bit of editing. Is there anything I can do ?
    Kind Regards, Matt.

    Hi,
The current site is still in trial I just moved it to a higher plan for you to test.  In order to use an actual live payment gateway you must upgrade the site from trial to a purchased "webCommerce" plan.
I believe there may be some confusion on the type of site plan you get along with your CC subscription.  Please note the 5 entitled site will come under the "webBasic" plan and for higher plans you'll need to purchase additionally.

  • Business catalyst and  adobe web hosting in Japan

Hi ! I am new to here and confused about differences for business catalyst in Japan and United States.
I have been learning how to develop web page using Muse, Dream Weaver, HTML, etc..for trial creative cloud before I buy.
I live in Japan and I am wondering if there is much deferences between business catalyst for U.S. and Japan ( I guess Japanese version named Adobe Web Hosting)
Using Adobe Web Hosting in Japan, It is so limited that I can do in online web application menu and system is not so complicated as U.S. business catalyst.
because I am still in trial version or Is it limited like it in Japan.
What I want to do with business catalyst is just create web page and put some product in for e-commerce and start little shop however there are no menu for e-commerce or even SEO things, etc...
I may be still logging in U.S. business catalyst so I can use full servieces. but...
if anyone know Please tell me.
    thank you.

There is only one universal Business Catalyst.
What I think is happening here is that the site you have created is under a plan that does not include eCommerce- so what you need to do is:
Either create a new one under Web Commerce
    or
Upgrade the existing one to a paid Web Commerce plan
    or
Ask Support to upgrade your trial site to Web Commerce.

  • Business Catalyst and Creative Cloud - I'm completely lost - help!

Okay, I am a Creative Cloud subscriber. It is my understanding that I can host five websites with Business Catalyst. However, I did not design my site using either Dreamweaver or Muse and so I just want to ftp my files into one of my sites. But I can't figure out how to access a control panel for Business Catalyst through Creative Cloud (the cloud control panel just keeps telling me to download Dreamweaver and Muse). I tried access it without the cloud, through Business Catalysts website directly, but all it would do is sign me up for a trial version as my Adobe login did not work for Business Catalyst. This whole system is completely confusing to me - I feel like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole.
What am I missing? Is there a panel that I can access through the Cloud that will allow me to ftp my files into one of my sites? Or, if I go to Business Catalyst directly is there a way to link it back to my Creative Cloud panel? How do I set up the 5 sites I get with being a Cloud member if I'm not using Dreamweaver or Muse?
Any information or point in the right direction would be helpful!
    Thanks,
    Deona

  • Dreamweaver error when using Business Catalyst module tags in template

    Hi all,
this is a recent and very distruptive error I have come accross in Dreamweaver CC.
When editing a document attached to a Business Catalyst template in Dreamweaver,
I was getting an error message (attached) saying:
"You have made changes to the code that is not marked as editable. If you retain those changes, they will be lost the next time you apply a template update to this file. Do you want to retain the changes until then?"
This happened every time I added a new html tag to the page, p div etc... which made DW unusable for editing files.
Having not got any useful help from BC support, they told me to contact Dreamweaver support!
In the end, I found through troubleshooting that it was the content holder module tags from Business Catalyst that were causing the problem,
I had recently converted my Header, Footer, Scripts etc to Content Holders in the site admin,
and when I removed these tags from my template and replaced them with the original html the problem disappeared.
The problem was happening on both my macs so the problem looked real to me,
but from searching online I couldn’t find people with similar issues, which made me think I must be doing something wrong.
    As an aside,
I find the workflow between Dreamweaver CC and Business Catalyst, particularly in relation to DW templates very confusing.
I couldn’t find any up-to-date best practice guides for using DW in the Business Catalyst workflow that discusses the real issues I get every day:
    - Best practice DW template editable region for {tag_pagecontent}
    - BC pages updated from DW lose their page titles {tag_pagetitle} in BC admin (always causes problems for me)
If anyone is having these issues and found a way to get around them I’d be very interested,
I hope that this post will help some people who run into the same problem.
    thanks, Kieran Mahon.

I found what may be at least a temporary solution to this problem. The error seems to something to do with the template file not having been updated, so whenever DW reads the file it looks like the template code has been changed (which of course it hasn't). It may be to do with the way BC treats the template code on the server side, as it seemed to start happening after I had downloaded some files from the server.
I opened the affected page and clicked Modify->Templates->Update Current Page and so far no error messages. Just one gotcha though. If you have any BC tags or Liquid code in your templates, DW converts it all to some kind of gobbledegook, so before you update the Template, copy all of your editable code and then paste it back in once the update has been done.

  • Changeing a site from Muse to Dreamweaver in business catalyst

HI guys, I have used various forums in the past to answer many questions about web design but never have I actualy asked a queastion - I really hope someone can help me please! (I can't seem to find a simple answer anywhere!)...
    So here goes...
Being new to web design I created my very first site in Adobe Muse. My reasons for this were coming from a graphics/ print bacground the transition between the programs were really easy. I created my muse site quickly and uploaded it to business catalyst (incredibly easily) under the domain  www.keep21.co.uk.
However as I progressed in learning more about web I decided to try and move away from Muse because I wanted to have more control of the code. For this reason I started to learn Dreamweaver. Being a person who never does anything by half I decided I would start from the basics and firstly learn HTML and CSS before I looked into the program. Having gotten my head around that I created a root directory and began to re-create the site I had built in Muse by hand-coding it into Dreamweaver. I made a few changed a long the way to simplify the design and I am now happy enough to take this site live (replacing the muse site I'd already created). HOWEVER.......... I have noooooo idea how to do this and have become very confused.
Can anyone please explain how to do this please? So to re-iterate I am looking to replace the files I have on business catalyst for the site 'keep' with my new dreamweaver site.
When I started the site I created a root directory and have four basic pages within the folder (index.html, about.html,pricing.htm and contact.html) I a lso have images, templates and CSS ready to go.
    Any ideas?
    Kind regards
    Hannah

    Hi INTW,
While in Dreamweaver, Go to Site>>Manage Sites...  >>Import Business Catalyst Site
Login if prompted and then select the site from the list and choose your current root folder
A connection will be automatically setup.
If you left the download entire site checked, the current remote site folders and files will be downloaded to your root.
All you have to do is upload your new files then go to your admin and set the 'site's start page'.
That's all there is to it.
PS, id suggest you 301 redirect the old pages instead of deleting them.

  • Business catalyst transfer hosting / domain name issues

    Hello,
Hopefully someone can help with this. There is no information to be found anywhere about this anywhere. So here goes..
-Basically I have a an old site using my  .com hosted away from CC. I also have a newer version of my website hosted at CC and using the same .com BUT using the 'Business catalyst" tag"
-I now want to shut down my old site hosted away from CC-to free up the .com so I can use me new website WITHOUT having to use the Business catalyst tag (While remain being hosted on CC)
This is what my other host has asked me to get - (and that Adobe has no information on)
    My old host:
"In order to transfer the domain name to your new provider (CC) you need to organise the following:
.co.uk domain - In order to transfer the .co.uk domain name,
we need to be given the new 'Nominet Tag' for your new provider (CC). We can then switch the tag at our end and your new provider (CC) can gain access to the domain name.
.com domain - In order to transfer the .com domain name, your new provider (CC) will need to request a transfer of the .com domain from their end. We have unlocked the domain so this can be requested. Once they have done this, we will be able to provide an authorisation code that will enable them to complete the transfer."
Please help. This is very confusing..
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!!

    Hi,
If planning on reusing a domain for another site...
First you need to remove the domain from our old site/host. Once you have done this you can then add your domain to whichever site you require.  Then set up your DNS accordingly whether you want to host with BC or externally.
    Adding domain references:
    http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1741

Let me know if you have any remaining concerns.

  • In-Browser Editing disapears on some pages of my site in Business Catalyst

I uploaded an Adobe Muse Site to Business Catalyst as a temporary site so my client can proof it and learn how the in-browser editing works. The first two pages allow the elements to be edited by way of the Edit or Click buttons, but any of the inner pages do not have the ability to be edited. These pages can only be reach using the main navagation menu placed at the top of each inner page.
I should mention that I'm using the "Upgraded Content Editor" in "Site Settings" "Beta Features".  If I turn that beta feature off, then there is no way to navagate to other pages because there is no "Pages" menu item present.
    Please Help!
    Thanks

Sorry for the confusion, but the problem occurs after getting into the site.
click on one of the locations then under the login is a link saying “Temporary Login Link”  which will bring you to the home page
    this link:
    http://allaboardparentproof.businesscatalyst.com/AdminConsoleXT/icecube/home---on-the-huds on.html
you can edit these elements, but then click on any othe menu link - “Menu” Forms” etc.
The problem is when you get on any other page the edit ability disappears.
And if you look at the url you can see that it hasn’t change since the Home page.
If you replace the “home” in the url “home—- on-the-hudson.html” to “Menu” then it works properly.

  • Business catalyst upload folders

    Hi,
I have my website design in muse and I am using filezilla to upload to site right now. I am in the process of updating the site with new e-commerce and all into BC. I have a folder  not too big 67mb with lots of sub folders and files that I want to upload into BC. Looking at file manager into the console I cannot find a way to upload this folder with all its content in one step.
Does anyone have any idea how to upload a folder and all its content into BC with min effort?

  • Using Business Catalyst for Newsletters - Several Questions

Hello everyone - I hope the format of this forum question is okay.  I have designed our company website with Muse and we host it with Business Catalyst (webBasics+).  We like it a lot and are looking to possibly upgrade it to the next package (webMarketing) simply because of the potential for newsletters (as well as all of the other benefits like blogging and the helpful modules).
My company currently uses Constant Contact for our quarterly newsletters and holiday emails and we send to about 2800 people.  It seems obvious to me that we should ditch Constant Contact as we pay more than $50.00/month and I think it is very limiting as far as being creative goes.  It just makes sense that I should use Bc because I already use it...and the 5,000 newsletters is only $6.00 more.
    My questions are:
Are there a lot of templates to choose from?  100's? 1,000's?
Is it easy to create my own template?  Do I need Dreamweaver (Only have Creative Suite and Muse)?
Is it easy to transfer an email list I have? We have software called ACT and I am a little unsure how this works but I assume there is a certain file type we can export and just upload into Bc.
Are there options to have links to social media (facebook, twitter, etc.) in the newsletters?
Are the newsletters limited in size?  I think Constant Contact limited the width of an email to 600 pixels - occasionally we had text in a graphic we made in Photoshop - so things go a little fuzzy.
Add-on question from #5 Are there ways to layer graphics on top of one another in the newsletters aside from flattening it in Photoshop?  This was the most limiting factor in Constant Contact.
I appreciate any help with answering these questions. Again, I think it is pretty obvious and maybe you have some things to tell me that I am completely clueless about.  I basically have to make the pitch to the powers that be and I want to make sure I have a lot of the ends covered.
    Thanks!

    Hope this helps.
    1) When using Adobe BC I can use dreamweaver cs6 as well, correct? Yes. BC works in DW CS6
    2) If i download Adobe BC on my computer to build the website can I also use it on another computer to keep the products updated? I read that it's online so i'm assuming this can be done for no extra cost but i want to make sure. Yes you can have SFTP access from any computer.
    3) Can you host your website using godaddy or other hosts while using business catalyst? NO, BC is a hosted solution. You can although host email services third-party (i.e. Gmail).
    4) Lastly, if you were to make an ecommerce website for a CLIENT how would you do it? WOuld you use business catalyst or other software such as, authorize.net and a shopping cart? BC includes a full-featured shopping cart (http://www.businesscatalyst.com/features/online-store), so you would manage products in the backend. A payment gateway like Authorize.net or Paypal will be needed (http://www.businesscatalyst.com/features/payment-gateways).

  • Business Catalyst vs Drupal Comparison

Have a client with 3 sites on Business Catalyst and they have been using BC for over 5 years. They are the Australian subsidiary of a multi-national organisation and head office is looking to standardise worldwide on Drupal. The Australian CEO has asked for help in developing a comparison of Business Catalyst to Drupal so that she can counter the head office move. They have no internal resources to maintain the website and have always engaged our services for website maintenance, updates, SEO, etc. The industry this business is in is highly government regulated. Only one of the sites uses eCommerce and this is handled by us and an external logistics company. On a second site the visitor can request information (already packaged)  which we post as the client cannot see the names/addresses (due to government regulations).  As a result, email marketing is not possible.
Was wondering if anyone has some real recent comparative information please as opposed to what can be read on the internet. In particular I would be looking for information on maintenance, updates, security, plugins, ease of use ......
    Thanks
    Geoff

    Hey Geoff,
You could spend hours on this but the critical difference outside of features, scope of what you can do etc because that is really dependent on the exact needs of the project etc. If you feel you can do what they need to do in BC as well as drupal then your looking at the core factors:
    - A BC system that has its system closed off for better security, PCI compliance validation and high security features. To achieve the same in Drupal will be extra cost and there will be the constant cost and development that they would have to pay more on to achieve similar.
    - Support - Adobe run the servers on Amazon using some of the latest tech, resources, monitoring etc there is. They do this, they support both the hardware and the software side of it and that is factored into the yearly costs that they would be paying. For Drupal they would have to pay the server fee's, people to support them, hardware maintenance, the software and so on. You can always turn to Adobe for support on the site, Drupal may have some basic support but not as much.
    - Updates: BC is seamless and backwards compatible. There is a bug Adobe fix it, not you or the client, with Drupal that is something someone will need to do, any custom work on Drupal when there is an update needs to be re-done or maintained, any changes to code that will be needed to be able to support the update will need to be done. Any security breaches that come out because it is open source will need to be action right away. BC does not suffer from that same issue because it is closed off system but if there are updates and fixes that need to be done - They do it. And again that is part of the monthly cost - For a big Drupal site and this being important thats cost on top.
    - All in one features. You very may well get SSL certificates, site hosting, Email Campaigns, plugins all under the cost of what BC charge but that will be several different bills each month/year VS BC which is a one of to one company and thus easier to manage.
    - Integrations. Yep you may get better email campaigns with mail chimp but you have to setup and maintain the API connections between your drupal site and BC etc.
People like things like Drupal because your not restricted, But as you start to factor in all this - the costs start adding up and the internal work to maintain and handle a site takes up time.
With BC you can focus on the SEO, Digital marketing etc more, You either have to pay more or have more staff to handle that and maintain the website.
