Business Catalyst Help | Create RSS feeds

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/add-content-rss-feed.html

Thank you for the fast reply, Mario!
I did look at the blog details page as the help page indicated and i did have the RSS check box checked, however under the Site Settings the RSS page had no channels in it. So I had to create a new channel so I can have a link to the blog RSS. When I created the chanel and selected to populate it with BLOG POSTs it gave me that ugly 2 box fields where you move the blog posts from left box to the right box. So essentially you have to do this for the blog posts as well. Unless I'm missing something but I spent almost an hour trying to figure this out in the Admin. Whcih is a rediculous amount of time to spend on something that comes pre-built to any other system.

I want to ask also if the opt-in forms in business catalyst can be embedded on a different website that's not hosted in BC. Like other email clients (mailchimp, aweber etc.) you can embed their forms to any website.
Is this possible for the BC email marketing forms?

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/create-ad-rotator.html

The content editor on BC won't let you really move it around, per se.  To insert your ad rotator into a page you use a module: {module_adrotator} so you can just cut and paste your module code to where you want it in your HTML code.

  • Create RSS feeds from KM News

    Hi all,
is it possible to create RSS feeds from the standard News items created with Form Based Publishing (XML Forms builders)? In other words, instead if just displaying those news items in the portal, can they be displayed in an RSS reader as well?
Since it's all XML I would say it is possible, right?
    please advice
    Marcel

    Hi Marcel,
jRSS - Simple Java RSS Feed Generator
A simple java API to produce Really Simple Syndication (RSS) documents following the specification version 2.0
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/jrss/
    http://cephas.net/blog/2003/09/07/creating-rss-using-java/
So generate the RSS in the KM folder where your XMLForm datas are saved.
After that create a component that accesses this RSS and shows it. You can use RSS Viewer librarys to achieve this:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/rssview/
    So steps are:
    1. Create RSS and save as resource in KM.
<b>Create a Repository Service, which creates this RSS and also updates it when contents in the folder changes.</b>
    2. Read this resource using a component and create IView from this component.
I am sure that there are lots of other approches to implement this solution.

  • Business Catalyst Help | Add a sitemap

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/create-customize-sitemaps.html

There is no sitemap.xml link any more only under the old system. BC generates this automatically.
In terms of  the sitemap module that renders a list of items in a ul li format on a page this is under the site manager.
As with anything you see on the BC it also all depends on your plan.

  • Create RSS feed from HTML DB?

I've been using a streaming RSS feed extension in Firefox for several months now and get feeds from all over including asktom.oracle.com and http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/htmldb/index.html. Very cool.
Recently I've installed HTML DB and have begun creating some basic reports - nothing very dramatic as I'm just learning. Now I'd like to begin sending out RSS feeds from my HTML DB application to my RSS extension in my Firefox browser but can't find an easy way to do it.
I see several posts of others wishing to do the opposite (read RSS feeds into their HTML DB application) but nothing that shows how to create a feed from HTML DB.
I looked at Tom's description of his method at http://asktom.oracle.com/~sdillon/rss.html but this seems very cumbersome to me - is there an easier way?
I would think that there should be a "create RSS" feed button somewhere in the HTML DB interface when I'm defining the page's attributes.
Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions.

Actually, Tom's method is not as hard as it looks.
You can really just copy it all into your own procedure and replace the inner query.

That's not a Exchange Management Shell script its just a normal powershell script that uses the EWS Managed API
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd633710(v=exchg.80).aspx . So you can run it from any workstation or server where you have powershell and the Managed API library installed.
You will need to update the line
    Add-Type -Path
    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange\Web Services\1.2\Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.dll"
    To
    Add-Type -Path
    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange\Web Services\2.0\Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.dll"
To cater for the latest version of the Managed API.
You can scheduled powershell scripts to run using the Task Scheduler eg

  • Help - Changed RSS Feed

I was hoping someone could help me with this issue I have.
I have been using Libsyn for about 1 year to push my RSS feed to iTunes. It worked like a champ. My website is www.bowcast.com and my RSS feed was www.bowcast.com\rss.
Recently, I have redesigned my website and moved it to a new server. My website is working fine. I re-submitted my RSS feed to iTunes about 10 days ago (new feed - http://www.bowcast.com/index2.php?option=compodcast&feed=RSS2.0&nohtml=1). I have the following issues:
    1) iTunes has not been updated. It still has the old RSS feed, and my users are getting an error that the "old" RSS server could not be found (which makes sense because I have moved it. Therefore, my latest episodes are available on my new site, but not in iTunes.
    2) I actually want the "old" iTunes submission (i.e. the old artowrk that I submitted over a year ago) to be taken down and the new RSS feed with the new artwork be posted.
Does anyone have any idea what I could be missing? I contacted Apple support and they suggested I start here.
Any help you could provide would be greatly apppreciated.
    aroney

It still has the old RSS feed, and my users are getting an error that the "old" RSS server could not be found (which makes sense because I have moved it. Therefore, my latest episodes are available on my new site, but not in iTunes.
By submitting a new URL to iTunes (if you become approved) you have in effect created a duplicate listing in the Store of your podcast. The new URL doesn't have any connection with your previous listing . . . so your old listing will be the way it is forever, unless you still have access to Libsyn or you send in a request to get the listing removed. Also, none of your old subscribers will know about your new listing unless they specifically go looking for it.
It looks like what you wanted/should have done was to put in a redirect in your Libsyn feed so that you didn't lose any subscribers, and didn't create a second listing in the store. I would still recommend trying this if your new listing hasn't shown up and if you still have access to Libsyn.
As for your second question, when/if your new feed is approved, it will contain your new artwork and any new elements you have put in your feed.

  • Business Catalyst Help | Work with pages

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/using/pages.html

Ok, I can't seem to find a straight answer for this question anywhere online without something else I find contradicting it.
PLEASE can someone tell me if my clients can edit text and images on Muse sites within Business catalyst, admin?
Ido not care if it does not revert the changes to the muse application on my mac. I just want my clients to be able to maintain there text and images without contacting me.
If and when the design needs to be changed on the original muse file, I will simply update the Muse file to correspond with the site online then make the further changes after that.
I REALLY want to use Muse to create websites for my clients but if they can't update image/text content remotely then It's not going to work for me and 90% of freelance designers.
Please can someone clear this up for me.

  • Help: Editing RSS Feed Button for Feedburner URL

I have an RSS feed on my iWeb site - just the standard RSS item from the iWeb menu, but I'd like to change the URL to the feed to a Feedburner URL.
Is there any way of doing this without having a custom button? I can't see any way using inspector or anything...
    TIA

I think I'll just create a custom button with the RSS link on it, containing the link to the Feedburner feed.
After looking around a bunch, I'm not sure you can do this as an iWeb setting...

    Hi,
    Welcome to Business Catalyst.
From the sounds of your requirement it looks very possible to acheive what you are after with a combination of perhaps APIs and using our import features + custom report generator.
    Here's a list of our API calls -> http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/635/bc_635.html
Also the various import options within BC -> http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/kb/importing-data.html
Lastly our custom customer report generator -> http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/kb/build-customer-report.html
I would also if you haven't already go ahead and test out BC.  It appears identifiers are what would be "users" having back-end access to the system to either generate a report or email broadcast who may also need to analyze incoming data.
If still needing assistance please reach out to our direct support so we can help guide you further if needed.  -> http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
