"Business" data unavailible?

I just updated to Tiger.. Why is that the "Business" on Dashboard gives me "data unavailable" message for everything?
what do you have to do to have it work?
or the area I am in is not on the network?
or any other reasons?

You should be able to choose the "i' at the lower right (when it is open so you must enter something first) of the business pages widget then it will flip around so you can enter your zip code and search parameters.

Business Data List View ONLY Displays records - Cannot Edit them

Using SharePoint 2010, I created an External Content Type. Data is coming from SQL Server. I created a new Read operation on my External Content type. I added a few filters in this Read View.
I have created a web part page in which I placed a Business Data List Web Part. In Web Part properties I chose the VIEW in question. I can now filter my External List data and the Business Data List Web Part displays them. But I cannot edit these
records!!!
From the web Part properties window, I can ONLY choose Views that are created from READ operations. How do I allow users to edit data and save data in the original source (SQL Server).

Error while crawling LOB contents. ( Access denied by Business Data Connectivity. )

Hi,
When I execute Incremental or Full Crawl I get 17000 error and only 1 success.
The error is:
Error while crawling LOB contents. ( Access denied by Business Data Connectivity. )
I went to Central Admin > Security > Specify Web application Policy > Search for the service account for crawl and it's "svc_SPSearch"
I went to Central Admin > Application Management > Manage Service Application > BDC Service > I select all the affected external sources > then Set Object Permission in ribbon > Added "svc_SPSearch" with execute rights > then
kick incremental crawl...
After this I still get 17000 error, 1 success.. Still an error.
I am not sure how the crawler's trust to FAST infrastructure works.

I have the same issue.
I have Configured the BDC Service application using SQL external content. The connection was successful and I am able to see the external content in the List "BDC Demo" . But when I search in the BDC Demo site it gives nothing.
So I checked in the crawl logs and identified that it shows " 1 " under error. to further drill down the issue , I went to click on "1" and see the error message : Error while crawling LOB contents SharePoint 2013 .
I have created an external DB named BCSDemo_DB for which I have granted my search Service account read& write permission.
I have added the same account under administrators for both secure store and BCS service applications.
I have done index reset , done a full crawl but the error still occurs.
Can someone please advise if I am missing something.

An internal database error occurred in the Business Data Connectivity Shared Service. SQL Error Number : 229

Recently i upgraded my SharePoint server 2013 to SP1, after the upgrade i received following message in manage database Status page " Databases running in compatibility range, upgrade recommended"
for Business Data Connectivity Database. Then i ran Sharepoint Configuration wizard, which fixed that error on that page but i am getting a error message while accessing BDCApplication page in manage service applications pagein central admin"

The BDC Service application failed due to a SQL Exception: SQLServer host WSQLD05\DV. The error returned was: 'The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'proc_ar_GetAdministrationMetadataCatalogByPartitionId', database 'sp_BusinessDataConnectivity_DV13',
schema 'dbo'.'
I checked the Db role of the service app pool account, it has SPDataAccess permission over the Database. i cant recreate another application without knowing the root cause. I hope i can get better option to troubleshoot the issue.

As per the error message, you can at least grant the BDC service application pool account the EXECUTE perimssions on the sp_BusinessDataConnectivity_DV13 database

BPM process to manage business data vs Business Data in RDBMS

Hi all,
I have so far seen BPM as a pure business process tool rather than a data management one even thought BPM provides for managing data. If in case, we have a nice Business Process, which also collects plenty of related business data, what would be the suggestion?
1. To store Business Data in RDBMS and provide BPM with just enough info. for the process.
(or)
2. To store Business Data in BPM Business Catalog & do away with RDBMS (ofcourse BPM uses RDBMS for dehydration )
In our project, we are discussing this and some points in favour of approach (1) are:
i. For web based applications with multiple UI forms to collect data, storing data in RDBMS is way better on performance than accessing/storing in BPM business catalog
ii. Data Retention of Business Data in BPM needs special consideration which may lead to dumping data eventually in RDBMS
iii. UI frameworks help build UIs quick with a known data model rather than over APIs exposed by BPM
iv. Reporting over an RDBMS data model is easier than over a Business Catalog in BPM
Are these points valid or is approach (2) having other advantages to consdier?

I think I'm just backing up what you had on your original post, but here's what we typically tell customers when this comes up.
This has long been a best practice recommended by Oracle. In Oracle’s Performance Tuning for Oracle Business Process Management Suite 11g document , on page 17 it states:
"Minimize the amount of data stored in the process instance. Obviously, there is a tradeoff between the cost of storing data locally compared to storing keys and retrieving data for use within the process, which needs to be considered.
A reasonable starting point would be to model the process state to hold only values that are needed to control the process flow and keys to get any other (external) data on an ‘as needed’ basis. If retrieval is too frequent/slow, or the systems holding that data are not always available, then move more data into the process."
You touched on this, but decoupling the process payload and the underlying data for these reasons:
1. The underlying data and the processes typically have different lifecycles and need to be independent of one another
There is a need to maintain each at different times
They are typically modified by different groups of people with differing skills
The data stored in a database is typically the “source of truth” that sometimes must be able to be accessed and easily manipulated by applications outside of Oracle BPM; if stored as process instance data, instead of SQL extracting data from a database, the outside applications would need to access it through Oracle BPM APIs they are not necessarily familiar with
2. Lightweight process data persistence improves performance
The underlying message contract between the process instance and the engine that persists the payload should leverage key values where possible (think primary keys / relational keys from classic DBMS design patterns), rather than defining instance variables for every data element. The performance of the Oracle BPM engine is improved and the data for the instances are rendered faster.
The process instance is carrying the necessary process payload, rather than a bloated payload. Only the information germane to the current activity should be retrieved and rendered. This allows the application server to run more efficiently.
At each step in the process, the process payload is hydrated and then dehydrated (read from the engine’s underlying database tables and then written back to the tables). If this information is stored in an external database, there is no need for the overhead of this hydration and dehydration of large amounts of data to occur.
At each step in the process, if stored externally in a separate database outside of Oracle BPM, only the data required is read and / or updated when it is required to do so.
3. Decoupling helps speed development
Oracle BPM was built with the Decoupled Model View Controller (MVC) pattern in mind
One of its strengths is the architecture‘s business services layer that can make the source of the data transparent. Given a single key value stored in the process instance payload, services can be invoked from the process and the human steps in the process that represent the “real source of truth” that the business needs.
The MVC pattern’s model layer assumes that given the process’s key value, it is then possible to easily access underlying business data from a variety of sources including databases, EJBs and web services. Although storing all of the information inside the process payload can be considered one of the model’s business service sources, the overhead of using this in production systems is not recommended.
Once exposed, the business services can be reused by any business process needing the information.
User interfaces created with Oracle’s Application Development Framework (ADF) have out-of-the-box components and operations that take advantage of this MVC pattern. Some examples of these out-of-the-box patterns that do not have to be programmed include:
Database table information can easily displayed using Next and Previous that automatically retrieve the next or previous sets of rows
Similarly, scrolling in a table with many rows up and down renders data automatically
Both server and client side validations and rules
Database dropdowns and cascading dropdowns
Forms automatically created with Master / Detail patterns
4. Decoupling reduces the complexities arising from data synchronization
When orchestrating various external systems into a process, care must be given to account for “Systems of Record” and the purview these systems have over data values
Decoupling process instance data so that only key values are in the payload allow the Systems of Record to continually update the subservient element values without fear of stagnant data in the process
Participants in the process receive the most current data values when dealing with process instances
When data objects span several process instances, finding and updating data is easier if stored in a databaseExample: Process instance based on Orders. Several process instances may involve orders for a single customer. When the order changed, no problem, just find the process instance using correlations and updated it. When customer info changed, you need to synchronize any number of process instances. Placing the data in an RDBS made the solution simple. Simply updated the customer tables and all orders now have the latest info. No need to find related process instances and update them.
Some BPM events don’t carry sufficient information and need enrichment to process events. With data stored in the payload, there is no easy way to enrich the event data. This is especially true with ACM events. Events in ACM do not have instance information. Storing data in the database will prevent a costly work around using a dedicated process and correlations to get the info needed.
5. Decoupling facilitates the data capture for reporting and archiving
Keeping data in the BPM payload takes away the option to do custom reporting (outside of BAM) and archiving of business data.
Storing data in the RDBMS makes possible to create custom reports (outside of BAM) which would be not be possible or hard to do if all data lived in the BPM payload. Also, if you wanted to capture custom data changes or progressions thru a BPM and/or BPEL instance, RDBMS tables have a clear advantage over payload information. Payload (in most cases) would not have the data progression captured, and also reading data progression from the logs is not a recommended option.
Many organizations have data retention policy, which requires data to be archived and be accessible. Archiving and data accessibility is very limited if data is stored in the BPM payload.
6. The need for process Intelligence goes beyond the instance life cycle
Instances get cleaned up from process database and many organizations are interested in not only keeping the business data but also all the BPM related intelligence related to audit trail, KPIs etc. BAM data getting to BI cubes is one of the ways to ensure that intelligence lives on, but viewing process audit maps, audit trails and knowing what attachments were part of the process is a very common use-case. For the latter, the common patterns used are the use of UCM or other ECM products to store the correlated set of documentation that can be brought together in a Webcenter like content portal for historical research and auditability purposes. That, couple with an application database strategy to keep correlated application data would paint the full picture for the business users.

it is possible searching for business data in sxmb_moni for example a order-No. The reason is that a customer want know the time the order is executing or this happened without an error or trying to send the order again. Normally only with the message searching is possible?

Outlook 2013 - Calendar issues: Suggestions cannot be provided because free/busy data could not be retrieved

I noticed recently that I cannot see anymore free/busy information for my own organization colleagues.
I'm using Outlook 2013 (latest updates) upon Exchange 2010 (SP ?).
The suggestion DO work on my account using OWA.
Other users w/Outlook 2010 have no problems.
I tried to run "outlook /cleanfreebusy" but that switch isn't supported anymore in outlook 2013.
Anyone can help ?

I didn't say two but three places.
Actually, my wording is a bit confusing. In terms of where you go to remove them, it is indeed "Program and features" and "see installed updates". Now within there, I had the KB listed several times (3) under different products (like "Microsoft Outlook 2013"
and "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013") and I had to uninstall the KB from all three entries.
Note that, as per Robert Sparnaaij (http://www.howto-outlook.com, http://www.msoutlook.info)
: "I’m aware of the issues but they are not as black and white as the article(s) suggest(s) and not that widespread either to do a general recommendation to uninstall
a security update. In case of the IMAP issues, they are actually wrong.", and "It was said to
be fixed with Path Tuesday for December (December 10) but unfortunately somehow the Outlook 2013 update missed the cut. It got published on December 13 after all but only was approved a little over 24 hours ago as KB2850061. However, at the moment, only the
downloads are available but not yet the KB article nor are they currently being offered via Microsoft Update so unfortunately, the issue will drag on a bit longer. I’ve just published an article about it here:

Update Statement With Decode and Business Dates

Hello everyone,
I need to write a UPDATE statement using business date rule. In general, the due date is 30 days from the checkout date. If the due date falls on a Saturday or Sunday then the loan period is 32 days.
I know that to test for a weekday, I'd need to use the to_char function in Oracle with the format of ‘D’. I did some research and found that to test which weekday November 12, 2007 falls on, I'd need to use the expression to_char(’12-NOV-2007’,’D’). This function returns a number between 1 and 7. 1 represents Sunday, 2 Monday, …,7 Saturday.
What I really would need to do is write one UPDATE statement using an expression with the Decode function and the to_Char function:
UPDATE book_trans SET due_dte = expression
These are the transactions that will need to be updated:
ISBN 0-07-225790-3 checked out on 15-NOV-2007 by employee 101(book_trans_id=1)
ISBN 0-07-225790-3 checked out on 12-NOV-2007 by employee 151(book_trans_id=2)
ISBN 0-201-69471-9 checked out on 14-NOV-2007 by employee 175(book_trans_id=3)
ISBN 0-12-369379-9 checked out on 16-NOV-2007 by employee 201(book_trans_id=4)
I manually calculated the due-dte and wrote update statement for each book_trans_id:

As you can see, it's very cumbersome and I'd just like to know how to incorporate everything in one Update statement:

so that if due date falls on Saturday or Sunday, the loan period is 32 days; weekday, loan period is 30 days.

Once you have identified a candidate for enhancement via BDT (i.e. u2013 no SAP-provided dialog/screen exits), how do you find out what the application object is so that you can determine if it is an object registered for the BDT?
All BDT-enabled applications call function module u201CBDT_TBZ0A_GETu201D to find out specifically what, if anything, has been enhanced.
Put a break-point in the function module.
Execute the transaction that you are hoping to enhance.
When your break-point is hit, look at the value assigned to variable IV_OBJAP. This is your application object.
If the break-point is not hit, chances are that your application doesnu2019t use the BDT.

Business data tool

Hi,
There is one problem in BDT. I want to display a dialog box in BP transaction which contains the list of addresses. From that dialog box i want to select one record & want to transfer it into the Address fields. This dialog box i am displaying at the time of the save. Here i am using DSAVC event of transaction BUS7.But the problem is that i am not able to transfer data from that dialog box to BP screen fields.
If anybody work on that please inform me.

Import WebSite and Business Data Connectivty Services together

Hi,
On my development environment (SharePoint 2013 server), I have a web site that contains a documenbt list. This document list is linked to some Business Data Connectivity Objects. (I have some external data columns plugged on my BDC objects).
Now, I need to import this web site and these BDC objects on another environment.
I need to do it with power shell commands, so I do like this :
$MetadataStore = Get-SPBusinessDataCatalogMetadataObject -BdcObjectType "Catalog" -ServiceContext http://localhost
Import-SPBusinessDataCatalogModel -Path "<path>\BDCmodel.bdcm" -Identity $MetadataStore
New-SPWeb http://localhost/MyWebSite -Template "STS#0"
Import-SPWeb -Identity http://localhost/MyWebSite -path MyWebSite.cmp -Confirm:$false -Force -ErrorVariable errors -UpdateVersions Overwrite
The two importations are OK but my document list does not find my BDC model. The link is broken.
Is there something special to do to manage and keep the link between my document list and my BDC objects ?

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to use PowerShell commands to import a site and BDC model into another environment.
I recommend that you can try to use the following PowerShell commands to check if it works.

Import-SPBusinessDataCatalogModel -Identity $catalog -Path ".\RinkNetModel.xml" -force -ModelsIncluded -PropertiesIncluded -PermissionsIncluded -Verbose -ErrorAction Stop -ErrorVariable $err
Then, you can check if the model successfully loaded and if you can use the External Content Types that the model contain.
To display all BDC models in the metadata store, type on one line the following command:
Get-SPBusinessDataCatalogMetadataObject -BdcObjectType Mode -ServiceContext
http://SP01:12345 -Name "*" | select Name
To display all the external systems in the BDC metadata store, and to display the type of external system together with its entities (external content types), use the following command:
Get-SPBusinessDataCatalogMetadataObject -BdcObjectType LoBSystem -ServiceContext

Error when click Manage in Business Data Connectivity Service Sharepoint 2013

Dear all,
In Sharepoint central administration, I click manage service applications. Then, I click New > Business Data Connectivity Service. After create new Business Data Connectivity Service, when I click Manage to manage this new Business Data Connectivity Service,
there is error "Cannot complete this action as the Business Data Connectivity Shared Service is not responding. Please contact your administrator." In event viewer, there is error ""The BDC Service application is not accessible. The full
exception text is : The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Negotiate'. The authentication header received from the server was 'NTLM'.
I have tried to delete and create the BDC Service application, but it still did not work. I have tried to restart BDC Service and do iisreset, but it still did not work.
Please help. Thank you.

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you get an issue about the Business Data Connectivity Service.
To quickly and accurately find the issue, I recommend you can check the event log and ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.
For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS
You can check the ULS log by the methods here:

Partner number in Business Data Toolset

hi all,
I´m using the Business Data Toolset to do some maintanance on customer own fields by saving the Business Partner. Actually I wrote a function module and put it into the event DSAVB. How is it possible to read the actual Business Partner number in this special event?
