Business Exceptions - BPEL

How to call a business exceptions through BPEL? Are we supposed to define a custom handler and call this through any activity ?
Pls respond if anyone has done this in projects...thanks

Importing RuntimeFault.wsdl is not required.
You need to model your projects wsdl to include business fault
Roughly I can put steps here
1.Define xsd to hold business fault content
2.Define message in your project wsdl pointing to Fault element in above xsd
3.Define operation in your project wsdl which includes fault
Example:-
<wsdl:operation name="GetEndorsingBoarder">
<wsdl:input message="es:GetEndorsingBoarderRequest"/>
<wsdl:output message="es:GetEndorsingBoarderResponse"/>
<wsdl:fault message="<prefix:messagedefined in wsdl>"/>
</wsdl:operation>
No I think you should be able to find fault from Throw /reply activity
Let me know if it works.

  • Handling business exceptions from DB adapter

    Hi,
    How to handle the business exceptions/faults raised from PL/SQL stored proc exposed via DB Adapter. From what I know there are two types of exceptions namely business exceptions which result into binding faults and runtime exceptions. The later are retriable exceptioons.
    So the scenario I am working with is a simple PL/SQL procedure which selects from a table and returns a value if found and raises an PL/SQL exception if select fails. I expect the second case to result in a binding fault and hence catchable in BPEL process or ESB as error topic.
    But when I try this I am always getting oracle.tip.esb.server.common.exceptions.BusinessEventRetriableException. More over as the name implies it's a retriable exception and it appears to me it's being re-tried by default before throughing this message. My question is shouldn't this be a business fault/binding exception?
    Am I doing something wrong here? What's the expected behavior for exceptions (buiness related) raised from DB adapter. I understand I can always catch these exceptions in PL/SQL and pass a relevation status OUT parameter. But I am trying to mimic a typical input/output or input/fault type of web service interfaction for PL/SQL procedure.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Rajesh

    Just my 2 cents, but you're talking about the integration of DB Adapter and ESB and I think Marc is talking about Bpel and DB Adapter and these have different functionalities for eror-handling.
    In ESB a framework has been added to be able to retry exceptions that are 'retryable business exceptions', which gives the user the possibility to for example recompile the procedure/function and retry the transaction that was defined earlier.
    I think if you want to add custom exceptions you will need to extend the BusinessRetrievableException to your own custom exception handling.
    I think this is a possible enhancement question for the exception handling-architecture that has been created for usage in ESB. Maybe this can be added to the 'enhancement requests for ESB'-list ... if that exists?

  • Throwing Business Exception from Human Task

    Hi,
    Can anyone point me to some examples, of how can I configure a Human Task to throw a business exception in a BPMN process ?
    I want to provide th user with the ability of completing the task normaly, or launch a business exception like, cancel the order, or lack of stock.
    I'm using Fusion 11g.
    Thank You.
    /RG

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply. But, I'm not sure I understood you correctly. What I want, is not to capture an exception after a human task, but to generate one in it. I want to add an error boundary event to a human task. The user can fill the form normally (for example a purchase order) and the normal flow continues or he can generate an exception (like cancel case, or lack of stock) that will be cought by the error boundary event.
    What I want to know is how can I generate a business exception inside a human task? For example in the interface.
    Is this the right way to do it ? Am I missing something ?

  • Seperating business exceptions and System exceptions

    Hello All -
    We are developing couple of mediated services  using SAP PI 7.0. Below is our requirement
    1.When the service producer indicates a business exception (it might be either a SOAP fault or error code coming as part of SOAP body) , it should be converted as BusinessException before throwing back to the consumer
    2. When the service producer indicates a System exception (it might be either a SOAP fault or error code coming as part of SOAP body)  and there is a system failure in SAP PI, it should be converted as System Exception before throwing back to the consumer
    My previous experience was with IBM Process Server, where it allows to do this. Can I achieve the same with PI 7.0
    Thanks in advance
    Rajeev

    Hi Milan-
    Thanks for the reply. We are not using bpm, since one of our expert told us that it can be a performance overhead.
    Is  bpm the only solution for implementing this way?

  • Correlation Exception - BPEL - Proxy Service and Business Service

    Hi All ,
    Correlation exception
    Flow - BPEL - Proxy - Business service
    We are invoking a proxy service from a bpel process with a correlation set(property set as Yes)) and it works absolutely fine when the service is available But the problem occurs when the service is down or a remote fault occurs.
    In the fault policy we had an action saying that retry three times but when it retries three times with the same correlation set
    <Action id="ora-retry">
    <retry>
    <retryCount>3</retryCount>
    <retryInterval>2</retryInterval>
    <exponentialBackoff/>
    <retryFailureAction ref="ora-human-intervention"/>
    <retrySuccessAction ref="ora-terminate"/>
    </retry>
    </Action>
    It was throwing an correleation exception.
    since it was hitting the service wth same correletion set it was throwing an error. Is there any way i can retry for the same service with out exception
    Thanks,
    Raja

    1. No it can be any kind of request: binary, text, xml...
    2. ALSB support a lot of different transport/protocols:
    EMAIL, FTP, FILE, HTTP, JMS, EJB, TUXEDO. In ALSB 3.0 we will add support for ERPs: SAP, SIEBL ..., MQ native and SFTP
    3. It depends on the transport. For example for file, the client drops a file in the file system, for http it opens a http connection to the URL http://host:port/address etc...
    4. TCP/Socket transport is provided as a sample transport in ALSB 2.5 and 2.6. You can look in the weblogic92/samples/servicebus folder. You can also write your own transport if you like. There is a public SDK.

  • Is it possible to put xsl file at some other location except BPEL folder fo

    Hi,
    I want to put my xsl file in some location not in BPEL suitcase. If i use processXSLT function using full path. it thorws filenot found exception.
    So does it mean i can not put my file at any other location and specify absolute file path?
    Thanks,

    Hi, I'm also developing for PPC platform on Oracle Lite. Did you consider deploying the application as a plain set of files? When I was making the decision whether to CAB or not to CAB, I decided not to use CAB deployment and deploy our application as a plain set of files with installation steps described in the setup.inf file you mentioned. We also perform updates frequently, but we almost never update all the modules - just one of two files at the moment which makes quite small amount of data in comarison with the huge CAB which would need to be transfered to the device if we use the CAB deployment.
    The documentation contains some useful information about the setup.inf format - it's quite easy to understand and use. First of all you have to create a JAR package (which is just renamed zip file) containing your application files plus the setup.inf file and web.xml file. Than you have to publis this application using the mobile server web interface. After this initial step, mobile server creates a directory for your application in {OLITE_HOME}\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\mobileserver\applications\mobileserver. If you wish to publish a new version of your application than, you just copy the new files (or single CAB) and increment the version number in setup.inf file.
    I think you can find setup.inf and web.xml samples in the forum's history. If you won't be able to find them, I can post some examples....

  • Can't catch the exception when transaction rollback ,BPEL/SOA 11G,updated!

    Hi Guys ,
    I have two insert/update invoke actions through dbadpter in my BPEL process .
    When I set the GetActiveUnitOfWork property of those two db adapters to true ,it successfully makes the global transaction work . any of them failed will cause the other rollback.
    But the CatchAll brunch can't catch the exception in that case,
    I can only see exception message from the system output :
    02/11/2009 11:36:46 AM oracle.toplink.transaction.AbstractSynchronizationListener beforeCompletion
    WARNING:
    Local Exception Stack:
    Exception [TOPLINK-4002] (Oracle TopLink - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.1.0) (Build 090527)): oracle.toplink.exceptions.DatabaseException
    Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLIntegrityConstraintViolationException: ORA-00001: unique constraint (Table1_PK) violated
    from BPEL console , you can't even see the error , the process finished with no exception.
    When I set GetActiveUnitOfWork to false, CatchAll brunch is able to catch the exception , but global rollback is not working .
    I try all the other method like set the transaction property of BPEL to required , using checkpoint() in java embedding . it looks like only way is set GetActiveUnitOfWork to true, but can't catch exception.
    Here are some updated:
    Here is my process
    Main Sequence
    Invoke (dbadapter update)
    Invoke (dbadapter insert)
    Global CatchAll
    Invoke(jmsAdapter sendjms)
    if I disable the CatchAll branch , when insert failed , the insert will rollback as well, even GetActiveUnitOfWork set to false.
    enable CatchAll branch , even doing nothing in this branch , the update won't rollback when insert failed. it looks like when catch the exception , bpel seems not rollback , I try to add throw rollback in catchall branch, no any effect.
    any clue ?

    Hi All,
    We are also facing a similar kind of issue.
    We have a simple BPEL which will makes use of JAva embedding to call an end point to check its availibility.
    The Java code for cheking the enpoint connectivity is below
    try{
    boolean endpointAvailable = false;
    long start = System.currentTimeMillis();
    int endpointTestURL_port = 8445 ;
    int endpointTestURL_timeout = 500;
    String endpointTestURL_queryString = "" ;
    String endpointTestURL_protocol = (String)getVariableData ("endpointProtocol");
    addAuditTrailEntry("endpointTestURL_protocol: " + endpointTestURL_protocol);
    String endpointTestURL_host = (String)getVariableData ("endpointHost");
    addAuditTrailEntry("endpointTestURL_hostl: " + endpointTestURL_host);
    URL endpoint = new URL(endpointTestURL_protocol, endpointTestURL_host, 8445, endpointTestURL_queryString);
    addAuditTrailEntry("endpoint object is created" );
    String endpointTestURL = endpoint.toExternalForm();
    addAuditTrailEntry("Checking availability of endpoint at URL: " + endpointTestURL);
    // Configure connection
    HttpURLConnection connection = (HttpURLConnection)endpoint.openConnection();
    connection.setRequestMethod("GET");
    addAuditTrailEntry("The Method is Get");
    connection.setConnectTimeout(5000);
    addAuditTrailEntry("Timeout is 500 ms");
    // Open connection
    connection.connect();
    addAuditTrailEntry("Open Connection");
    String responseMessage = connection.getResponseMessage();
    addAuditTrailEntry("Recieved availability response from endpoint as: " + responseMessage);
    // Close connection
    connection.disconnect();
    endpointAvailable = true;
    if (endpointAvailable)
    setVariableData("crmIsAvailable", "true");
    else
    setVariableData("crmIsAvailable", "false");
    catch(Exception e)
    System.out.println ("Error in checking endpoint availability " + e) ;
    addAuditTrailEntry("error message is : " +e);
    When we run the above as a seperate java program it runs fine i.e goes to the catch block and catches the exception.
    But when we run it within the java embedding in BPEL(11G) it gives us the follwoing error.
    The reason was The execution of this instance "490001" for process "default/GMDSSalesLeadsBackMediationInterface!1.0*soa_e1a6362f-c148-417c-819c-9327017ebfa4" is supposed to be in an active jta transaction, the current transaction status is "ROLLEDBACK" .

    So when the error occurred, the first BPEL process invoke activity is waiting for the human action. The moment I clicked on the activity label in the Activity tab, I am getting this error.

  • BPEL fault policy takes more time, when rethrowing

    Hi All,
    I have a scenario where BPEL fault policy is taking more time to re-throw the fault back to BPEL
    Scenario:
    1) Partner link service throws as business exception
    2) This exception is first caught by BPEL fault policy, this in-turn will invoke "oracle.apps.aia.core.eh.BPELJavaAction" & then it is re-throw's back to BPEL process. Then time while rethrow'n back to BPEL process it taking too much time.
    Environment:
    SOA suite : Version      10.1.3.4.0 with AIA
    Hi all , any updates on this
    Edited by: user535670 on Aug 19, 2009 7:43 PM

    Abap team debugged and found out that there was an issue with RFC in ECC system.
    RFC connection was not working. it was causing the flow to wait for 1 mins. Basis fixed the issue to make RFC working. now interface works without connection time out.

  • Deployed processes stopped showing up in BPEL console

    Hello,
    Our BPEL processes stopped picking up business events; BPEL console dashboard is empty. After, restarting oc4j_soa instance on secondary node, BPEL process picked up business events. After few minutes, BPEL process showed in console.
    After one day, BPEL processes disappeared from console.
    Following is the error message, I see in soa_err*.log on all nodes after the last successful pick up.

    Also, EM console does not show any web services for ORABPEL application.
    What do I need to do make the deployed process show up in BPEL console?
    Regards,
    Siva

    I ran into a BPEL_OC4J_SOAP_Provider error today and it was related to my proxy. The proxy on my local machine with JDeveloper would allow a WSDL with an unqualified name through. For instance, the machine kronos:7779 would validate, compile, and deploy from my machine. But looking up the WSDL on the server would produce the above described error. When I changed the name of the server to kronos.whatever.com:7779 it worked as expected on the server.

  • Customize faults in bpel.

    When we use custom faults in bpel we get as follows:
    <Faulthttp://xmlns.oracle.com/BPEL4http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/>
    <faultcode>client:BusinessFault</faultcode>
    <faultstring>business exception</faultstring>
    <faultactor>cx-fault-actor</faultactor>
    <detail>
    <BPEL4faultMessagehttp://xmlns.oracle.com/BPEL4>
    <Code http://xmlns.oracle.com/BPEL4>9710</Code>
    <Summary http://xmlns.oracle.com/BPEL4>Invalid xml document. According to the xml schemas, the xml document is invalid. The reason is: Error::cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid content was found starting with element 'ns1:input1'. One of '{"http://xmlns.oracle.com/BPEL4":input}' is expected. Please make sure that the xml document is valid against your schemas. </Summary>
    </BPEL4faultMessage>
    </detail>
    </Fault>
    That is whatever our custom fault structure is defined in bpel it comes under the detail tag as above.
    Is there a way we can customise that by replacinh the code in the faultcode and summary in the faultstring tag so that we have the fault structure as
    <Faulthttp://xmlns.oracle.com/BPEL4http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/>
    <faultcode>9710</faultcode>
    <faultstring>Invalid xml document. According to the xml schemas, the xml document is invalid. oops... sorry... I had typed it in as there is no way to copy that 'error message' on to the clipboard from the BPEL FLOW depiction.
    it must have read 'HealthCareWorkFlowProcessRequest'...
    the problem is not with the typo... :(
    Am not able to find the root cause... but the flow fails when invoked from my web application...

  • Runtime Exception - Need Help

    Hi
    I have a simple BPEL process to test the exception handling. It basically consists of a Invoke to call a EJB and a catchAll around the invoke. If there is an exception due to the Target EJB not available , the catchAll catches the exception, but if there is a runtime exception thrown in the EJB such as a NullPointerException, the catchAll does not capture it and also i'm not able to even access the instance, the instance itself vanishes. I have included the detailed log below..
    can some one shed some light on this..?
    Thanks in advance
    Sam
    The log contains activities of creating a new instance from Dashboard and click on the 'Flow' in console

    hmmm for some reason when you call your EJB and it throws an exception, the JTA transaction is marked as rollbakc so the BPEL EM engine fails to save the instance.
    Could you please provide us some additional pieces of information:
    obversion.bat.
    The exact exception that your EJB throws.
    JTA configuration of your bean
    Have you looked at the BankTransfer demo?

  • Unable to handle fault thrwon by BPEL in ESB

    hi ,
    my bpel process(syncronous request&reply) is throwing the remote fault and my ESB process is not picking the fault even both fault schema are same.
    error message:
    <MSG_TEXT>An error occurred for port: BPEL_OC4J_SOAP_Provider: javax.xml.rpc.soap.SOAPFaultException: business exception.</MSG_TEXT>
    can any one throw some light on this.
    PS:my bpel fault schema is not part of response schema( so cant use reply activity inside fault handling section)
    Thanks,
    Narasimha.

    There is a bug in the ESB, what version are you on. If on 10.1.3.3 you will need to apply the latest MLR patch.
    cheers
    James

  • BPEL and ESB Qry

    Hi All,
    I am quite not understanding the real flavour with ESB..,can any one explains.I am finding more times what ever ESB will do,we can achive same with BPEL..is there any specific points where ESB is very good..
    pls share your thoughts
    Thanks
    Murali

    ESB is:
    - faster then BPEL
    - does not have a dehydration store
    - can route messages
    - can do simple transformations (xslt)
    - can hide
    It does not have
    - the BPEL language
    - complex exception handling
    - does not have versioning
    - human workflow
    - business rules
    BPEL/ESB are both using the same adapters
    Hope this helps you

  • SimpleApproval BPEL example - help

    Hi,
    I'm having trouble with the last step of setting up SimpleApproval. The section from the instructions is called "Create S2S Trusted Application", and also activating the BPEL process within Content DB.
    Here is my setup. Everything is on one Windows XP machine:
    - OAS Infrastructure 10.1.4
    - Oracle Content Database 10.2
    - Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.1
    How is runS2S.sh supposed to work on Windows? Is this step necessary? Is there any way to create the application entity with Enterprise Manager?
    When the user "matt" uploads a document in the folder "Development", it doesn't trigger the workflow and the BPEL process isn't activated. The file domain.log has the following message (see below). Is this because there's no S2S trusted application?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Tom
