Business management software

Does anyone know of an all inclusive software package that will group all the requirements of a contracting company as well as an integration with our blackberries . I'm talking about something better than simply accounting or quick books . I've been pitched this type of thing by phone solicitors but I want to hear from someone who has used this type of software and can give an opinion that doesn't swing on the sale of that product.
I need : bookkeeping , material / inventory tracking , estimating , word processing { that is compatible with every one else's office } , and here is the kicker , something that we don't have to be a programmer to understand.

Are you talking a CRM? Check out BigContacts - google it.. Takes a little customizing. There are others - but BC is not too expensive and can sync to BB, 2.0 coming mid-year will have QuickBooks integration. No programming for sure, but you will need a sharp key member to get it set up for your specific situation.
BTW, CRM = Customer Relations Manager. BC is an "online CRM" so accessible anytime anyplace. Can be tied into a marketing campaign so customer contact is scheduled and automated.
Hope that helps.

  • Lion Battery Management Software seems to be erratic.

The Lion OS X 10.7.2 battery management software appears to be very erratic.
I just brought a new MacBook Pro direct from Apple last week (late 2011, 15", 2.4 GHz, 8 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3, 7500 rpm disc) with Lion OS X 10.7.2 preinstalled, i.e., the latest and greatest. I was only getting 3 hours on a battery charge until it ran out. After searching the forums nothing quite matched (older models, different graphic cards, more constrained systems, Lion software upgrades, etc).
I have the screen brightness set to about 50%, the power option "put disks to sleep whenever possible", and the keyboard set to turn off the light after 30 seconds of non-use. On battery, I have "display sleep" at 6 minutes and "computer sleep" set to 10 minutes. So I am not pushing the power consumption very hard.
I ran a "repair" from the recovery partition and my hard disk had no problems.
So I tried the Reset Power Manager metioned in another thread:
    Shutdown
    Depress Ctrl+Option+Shift
    Power on
Hold for at least 10 seconds
    Power on
and that extended my battery charge to 6 hours, not quite the 7 hours advertised. (I even tried it on my mid 2009 Mac Book Pro 13", Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 and its battery life was extended by about .67%).
But I started seeing odd reporting in the "time remaining" in the battery icon. The "time remaining" would fluctuate by as much as 20% in a just a few seconds, going either up or down! For example, it would jump from 4 hours to 3 hours, then up to 3.5 hours then up to 4.5 hours, down to 1.3 hours, and back up to 4.0, and so forth whenever I changed the state.
So I watched the "battery charge remaining" over several hours with different states:  (WIFI on/off, start/stop applications, turn Thunderbird/Firefox to offline and back to online; Thunderbird is not an issue because I have it set to check for incoming messages every 2 hours not every few minutes) and I monitored using the Activity Monitor and the widget iStat Pro. The cpu was reported to never exceed 2% busy, user+system, and free memory never fell below 5.9 GB with minimwl swapping and paging, i.e. the machine was basically idle even when I had WIFI on with Firefox watching Adobe Flash video from the net, which is purportedly a CPU hog (it is not).
Has anyone else seen this erratic battery software managemt behavior? Does any have an explanation?

I noticed in some archived threads that someone suggested changing "time" to "percentage" because "time" remaining is calculated every few seconds and is very sensitive to changes of state as I noted in my post. I don't see that "solution" as much use because it doesn't tell me "percentage" of what? The amount of charge left? What I really what to know is "how long will my charge last?". 70% of 3 hours is something quite different than 70% of 7 hours. It seems to me that the time remaining ought to be calculated less often. The value is reported in hh:mm. I don't see much point in calculating it every few seconds. Once a minute would actually be more accurate.

  • Project/Task Management Software for iMac, iPad and iPhone

    Hi,
I work at a Espresso Bars company in Sydney and we have a small but busy Design & Marketing department.  We're looking for the best, yet simplest software so we can manage all the marketing and design projects.
I've seen a few good Online Management Software but they are quite expensive ($25+ per month per user).  The good thing about those systems is that you can access it from anywhere and people can collaborate, ask questions about a project, give feedback about a design, enter a new task or tick as completed, etc... And you can use it on an iMac, an iPad and an iPhone.
I came across Projector for iMac and iPad, but it is not online, if you want to share the project from iMac to iPad you have to conect your iPad to your computer and sync it.  It also works by projects, so there is no way for you to see in a single screen all the projects you're currently working on and the process of them.  So, although it being very user friendly and excellent UI, not sure if it is what we want.
I wanted to ask you if you know about another Project/Task Management Software that we can use on an iMac, iPad and perhaps and iPhone as well.  Something that you either buy the app once or if you have to pay a monthly fee it needs to be very low.  If it is online it would be much better! but everything would work I reckon.
User friendly and good UI software are preferred.
Thank you so much for your help!
    Cheers

  • Looking for a Project Management software package for macs

while I'm on the hunt for some good business software for my mac, I am also looking for a good project managment program, in the spirit of MS Project, but "Apple-ized".
Open to suggestions from somebody with experience.

My company has a web-based project productivity management software called ActiveFocus which works on any type of machine.
Check out the demo and let me know what you think: http://www.activefocus.net/AFDemo/AFLogin.aspx
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Best Contact Management Software for Mac

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I can't find it anywhere. Plus, I'm not sure if I'm even in the right place. But, can you tell me what contact management software works the best for Mac?
Also, I'm new to using such software, is there anything specific I should be looking for when choosing one?
    Thanks!

I'm sorry to say there isn't much around. It has been a bit of a weak spot for Mac / OS X for ages - but things are possibly improving.
Any CRM solution for OS X needs really to co-operate with Address Book and iCal - so you can sync your stuff out to PDAs or whatever, and use them in Mail / iWork / Office 2008 etc. that are already written to work with such info in AB and iCal. If it doesn't, you end up with a closed-off app that can't easily work with you on the machine, and which then has to re-do code that already exists. Odd design constraints in earlier versions of iCal and AB made this harder - they were not very aware of other systems / apps. But this is changing in Leopard, and there are some promising things on the horizon (though none really useful solutions avail yet).
Of those out there, probably the best notional app is (in my view) Now Software's Nighthawk (http://www.nowsoftware.com/nighthawkSubsite/index.html). It is written by a team with a solid track record of CRM development on Macs, and is apparently designed to play nice with iSync and the rest. Trouble is it doesn't yet exist - rumours of a public Beta have been out there for months, but the date keeps slipping. Could be a good thing, or signs of major problems - who knows. Realistically you'll not see anything commercially viable from them before April next year I reckon.
But waiting could be good. The other attempt we've seen is SOHO Organizer by Chronos Software. (http://www.chronosnet.com/Products/sohoorganizer.html) In description it does the business - iSync / iCal / AB compatible. But it has had a troubled development, and there is lots of grim sounding reports of trouble with the app on the net. The developers are not very kind to themselves with not much disclosure and (at least last time a looked) a restrictive demo / preview policy (you get one trial period, and that's it, for ever! Even if they bring out a major version number change). My personal experience is that they tell a much better marketing story than they deliver in software - but I've steered clear of the app for a long time now (after a seriously bad experience) but who knows, they might well have caught up with their ambitions by now.
There are many others about that are really central web-based systems - which is fine provided you don't want to use Mail / AB / iCal or sync any of this to your phone / PDA / .Mac or whatever.
So, nothing much going on now. But ever hopeful...
If anyone knows more / other stuff - would be good to know about. We're still travelling hopefully.

  • Management software for VIC [M81KR] card "Cisco VIC Ethernet Interface" - Win 2k8R2

    Hi,
I am configuring a blade presently that has a VIC (M81KR) card installed.
In the UCS profile, I configured 4 vNICS
    - 2 vNICS for Public (One on Fabric A, one on Fabric B)
    - 2 vNICS for Private (One on Fabric A, one on Fabric B)
I have installed the OS (Win Server 2008 R2) and the Ethernet Drivers (Cisco Ethernet Driver).
What I want to be able to do is to bond/team the links together and tag VLAN traffic.
-- I've downloaded the Utility ISO from Cisco, however there is no management software for the VIC (That I can see). There is only software for:
        + Broadcomm, QLogic & Emulex..
    Any assistance is appreciated!
    Cheers, Chris.

Just to add to Simon's comments, we rely on fabric failover rather than a teaming driver.  This take the load off the host and puts it on the adaptor hardware.
The only other use case I've heard of for the teaming is in full width blades such as the B250 & B440, where customers may want to team across the two adaptors for great redudancy.  As the MTBF for the adaptors is extremely high, this wasn't seen as a priority/concern.  If you have another business or technical requirement that FF will not solve, please let me know so I can feed this back to our development team.
As for the VLAN driver, at present you need to configure unique NICs for each VLAN.  I've pushed on this request for some time and I'm told it has been planned for a future release.  I'll check to verify which release the Palo VLAN tagging driver (for windows) is tentatlively planned for and get back to you.

    Robert

  • Calendar as part of Blackberry Desktop Manager Software

    Hi All,
It would be a good idea to have the BB Calendar as part of Blackberry Desktop Manager Software, so appointments could be entered on the PC and then sync with a BB or the other way about.
I don't have an enterprise server, just plain old MS Outlook on my PC.
    Regards,
    Leslie.

    Hello,
As what I assume to be a business strategy, RIM specifically does not provide a PIM/Organizer with their software. Rather, they provide conduits to various PIMs so that the user has a choice as to which PIM they prefer. See this matrix for which PIMs are supported by different versions of the RIM DTM software:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB12268&sliceId=1&docTy...
BES is not required in order to sync a calendar to a BB. You can indeed sync, with the tools available today, bi-directionally calendar, contacts, email, etc. etc. etc.

  • Is there such a thing as good money management software for the Mac?

Hi, I'm looking for good money management software. I've got Quicken on my PC laptop, but the laptop is old, and I want to switch over to managing my checking account on my iMac. I don't need much, just to be able to track my bank accounts, reconcile them, and look at my cash flow.
I've looked at Quicken Essentials, but it's laughable, and the reviews on Amazon are horrendous (no surprise - Intuit is not known for the quality of their products, and they don't seem to care much). I've got Quickbooks for my business (not a fan, but I didn't have a choice), but don't want to track my personal accounts there as well.
Does anyone have a program that they use and like? I've also got an iPhone4, so it would be nice (but not a deal-breaker) if it had an app for it as well.
    Thanks,
    Sue

In the PC world I know that Worldox does this but I cant seem to find something for the mac. I tried to get some help with this a while back when I was starting my business but had to make do with what I had and have been busy since then. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Cloud Management Software alternative

    Hi Spiceheads,
I'm quite new in my role here at IFX who are a small foreign exchange business with around 50-60 users. We currently use cloud management software called ControlNow which we use for Monitoring, Patch Management & Web Protection. Our license is coming to an end and I've been asked to look for any alternative software. The company is cloud-based and uses Office365.
Does anyone know of any good, affordable alternatives that they have tried & tested and can recommend to me?
    here's what we currently use:

  • App-V 5.0 SP2 Standard & Middleware Package Publish by RES Management Software?

    Hi @all,
actually i am sitting by a customer packaging App-V 5.0 SP2 PAckages with Sequencer.
I have made Standard and Middleware-Packages.
Did somebody can say me how to publish App-V Packages (Standard & Middleware) by RES Management Software?
F.e. an App-V Package looks like this
    AdobeAcrobatStandard80_DE.appv
    AdobeAcrobatStandard80_DE.msi
    AdobeAcrobatStandard80_DE_DeploymentConfig.xml
    AdobeAcrobatStandard80_DE_UserConfig.xml
    report.xml
How can i define Connection Groups, that i can make connections between Standard and Middleware Applications?
    Greetz Berni

If you don't use the App-V Management server nor ConfigManager to deploy App-V packages, you have to create a ConnectionGroup definition XML file manually and then add the individual applications as well as the connection group definition to a client machine.
To create the ConenctionGroup XML file, you can use Notepad, Tim Mangan's
Appv_DefConnGroups or powershell (for instance as described by Aaron Parker on
    Stealthpuppy)
adding the App-V packages and the connection group(s) to a client can be done with powershell (but their might be some special features for that in RES already)

my Extensis suitcaseX 11.0.4 is no longer working with my system OSX10.6.8, what is the best and cheapest font management software to use that's compatible with this system and my existing CS design software?

If you upgraded to Snow Leopard, then it would seem that Suitcase 11 is not compatible with Snow Leopard and you'd need to buy Suitcase Fusion 3 for $99.95.

Are there any security management softwares available these days for OS 8.6 through OS 9.2? Something which lets the computer owner turn off firewire and USB is what I'm looking for.
