Cloud Management Software alternative

Hi Spiceheads,
I'm quite new in my role here at IFX who are a small foreign exchange business with around 50-60 users. We currently use cloud management software called ControlNow which we use for Monitoring, Patch Management & Web Protection. Our license is coming to an end and I've been asked to look for any alternative software. The company is cloud-based and uses Office365.
Does anyone know of any good, affordable alternatives that they have tried & tested and can recommend to me?
here's what we currently use:
https://www.controlnow.com/
Many thanks in advance,
Scott

  • Alternatives to download management software

I understand companies like to do things "their way"  and I understand that proprietary download management software for products is good for some but not others.  Has adobe completely abandoned the option of downloading individual self executable Trial software?  I think it's a really stupid and unnecessary move if so.  Why not offer both options to customers. Think about it Adobe. Think about it for more than 5 minutes please.  This is not asking for the moon here.
    Thanks.

Thanks.  Appreciate the response, but I've been trying to download direct links on prodesigntools while logged into my adobe account and all I get is this message repeatedly:
    Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/PPRO/8/win64/PremierePro_8_LS20.7z?" on this server.

Update:  I seem to have found a way to get this method working okay.  Thank you very much for posting some helpful info.  Means a lot.

  • Creative Cloud management app failed to install, again, remedy, clue

It failed yet again today for me, but in a particular way, and thereby gave a clue at least of one probably unknown failure mode which I can pass on.
    - I was trying to install the very latest Creative Cloud manager, which self-announced itself today 12 February 2014 when I tried to use it to check for updated applications.
    - it downloaded and started to run, then failed with the very clever 'failed to install' small alert. A small alert for very small knowledge of the actual cause? Surely you can do better.
    - I went on the forums and found all the times and ways this has caught up others before. I saw the 'rename OOBE folder' trick, and remembered that thus was the only thing that would actually fix the Creative Cloud manager one or more times before on my computers.
    - thus I tried to rename OOBE after killing every Adobe-named app in the Windows 8.1 Task Manager, and failed -- due to some nameless program holding it open.
    - I then stopped and restarted the machine.
    - I thought a moment and realized I'd run another Adobe installer an hour or two before, to updated Premiere Elements 11 to the latest possible Adobe Camera Raw as its updater offered.
    - thus instead of renaming OOBE, I ran the Adobe Creative Cloud manager updater when it offered again towards the end of booting up
    - this time it succeeded, hence I believe that other Adobe ACR installer had been at fault, leaving files unclosed or otherwise locked within OOBE. That's the new clue to Adobe developers.
    - If this hadn't succeeded, I'd have stopped and restarted the machine again, and then renamed C:\Program Files(x86)/Common/Adobe/OOBE.
I think this renaming is a lot better way to proceed (stop/start, adding possibly safe boot with no startup apps if OOBE remains locked to renaming when that method may be needed) than using the AdobeCreativeCloudCleanup tool as the troubleshooting page recomnmends.
The reason: this benighted cleanup tool does _not_ offer any way to remove Creatuive Cloud manager itself, even though support here suggests that it does. You can only choose variations which insist on uninstalling all your Adobe programs, CS6 included with Creative Cloud ones. I am not going to do that except at extreme duress. So far renaming OOBE and thus forcing Creative Cloud to recreate it has fixed every one of the blind, unspecific, and prevalent errors with Creative Cloud.
I think that much better work can be done on this Creative Cloud software, but I am constrained by a particular American folk tale told to children, which suggests 'If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything.'
I can only say that respect will be gained not by talk, or telling a lot of complicated procedures to recover software that costs like an automobile.
Respect will only be gained by really involving yourself, learning, and then doing all of this correctly. That's what every respected software developer in the world does.

Jeff, thanks equally for coming back on this.
    - I did begin the process on the page you linked.
    - when I got to the step running the CC Cleaner tool, it offered me no option to remove the Creative Cloud Manager -- only to remove all my apps, which are largely CS6. This is counter to the suggestion that you can remove just the manager, and not welcome as you will understand.
    - it was at this point that I recovered the procedure of just shifting OOBE out of play. When this wasn't possible due to invisibly held open folders or files, I realized the problem might have been due to the earlier Premiere 11 ACR update (you have to think a bit for reasons why it might want to do that...).
    - Thus when I stopped and restarted to assure a clean reboot, I thought to just let the Creative Cloud Manager try again when it offered this.
    - Without further intercession, this time the Creative Cloud Manager succeeded.
I would say that the move-OOBE-out-of-play to force recreate (or sometimes it has been move a certain file in OOBE) is a much preferred repair that has always worked for me in the numerous failures of Creative Cloud Manager over the last year. We don't really want to spend the hours and take the risk of removing all our Adobe CS and/or CC applications, plus adding all of their updates again, as you will also understand.
This points to a way Adobe could very much lower the agony of the Creative Cloud Manager, its updates and its crossed wires. I do appreciate the problem, though not why at your budget levels it hasn't had a definitive response. Some experience directing projects and having to take over offshore team management directly might suggest where you are finding the difficulty, at least.
In the mean time, why not put in place a recovery for failed Creative Cloud Manager activities including updates, which would simply and automatically do the task of accurately renaming the OOBE folder (for each attempt, no matter how many times  it had been done before)j, then triggering a restart followed by reinstall and information recovery of the Creative Cloud Manager? It could be something like Microsoft's Fix-Its, for convenience, which would also leave open a doorway to reversal if somehow necessary.
I suggest you might lower the incidence of this genre of problems by a very large factor if you were to do so, replacing the presently procedure with its flaws for those employing Adobe software.
Anyway, I hope the suggestion leads in positive ways for your products, and wish your team a good day.

  • 12c cloud control software costs extra or free with normal support

    Hi,
I am interested to use 12c now, as I have managed enough databases with 11g Grid Control.
I have read some docs about 12c licensing, but I would be thankful if someone could answer me himself. My questions is: Whether one is required to buy extra or separate license to use 12c cloud control software to manage Data Guard setups for example, or it's not required if one has Enterprise or Standard support license, or may be its free if someone has DIAGNOSTIC & TUNING PACK license?
    # 12C files to install cloud control:

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi Ken,
Wow, I've logged into adobe and never seen your response until now.
I need to make the forums more of a daily stop I guess.
Thank you for your response, When I go to the Archives, it states I have none. In addition, previously when I'd tried to move items to the archive, they just disappeared
Currently my desktop is not connecting at all, Everytime I connect, it's states "We have now logged you out" and requests I login again.
    I have of course rebooted,
Gone into taskmanager, killed all the relevant threads,  tried again to login through the desktop, no luck, I'll have to uninstall it, make sure the threads are killed, then reboot it and then reinstall it, but I've not had the time to do that.
On another note, and just as a point of reference, myself, personally, I hate these "cloud" file repositories (not to be confused with adobe cloud services which I love) but the file repositories themselves imho, are a blackhole of resource usage when one doesn't/isn't using them,
Is there a way we can use it more of a "ftp" sort of thing, when I want to I can  put files there?  There is no way to "Download" the repository, no way to download the folders.. only individual files and then it takes I think three different steps before the download starts.. I find this very inhibiting.  Just an fyi. for what it's worth.
Please, feel free to contact me,
I'm on g+ chat [email protected]

  • Creative Cloud Manager is installed, but why is the icon gray?

Creative Cloud Manager is installed, but why is the icon gray?

    Please follow the mentioned steps:
    1.  Navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE and rename it to OOBE.old
    2. Enable root account: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528 and log on to root
    3. Disable any security software if installed on Mac
    4.Delete opm.db file located at :MAC : ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
(opm.db file is present in your user library. This library is hidden from MAC 10.7 onwards.
So in order to locate that,
Click on Go at the top
    Select Go to folder
    type ~/library/
This will take you to the library folder and then you can locate opm.db file at Application Support/Adobe)
    5. Download CC desktop from www.creative.adobe.com and try to install it. Incase you are not successfull then please Check the Activity Monitor and see if AAM process is running, if yes then try to kill the process.opm.db file needs to be deleted in order to process further. WIN 7 and 8 (64 bit):
Rename OOBE to OOBE_old located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
    Relaunch the Browser
    Go to https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud
Sign in with Adobe ID and password and download CC desktop app.

  • Creative Cloud Manager - updates

Why does creative cloud manager have to be updated more regularly than would be consider normal And when I do try it won't unless I remove all protection to my computer. I also have to remove PDApp.log.
I am not alone with this issue as indicated by forums. Yet I can not get a direct answer from Adobe

Ian Cleland please see the Adobe Creative Cloud Service Access Documentation for IT section of http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html.  This will give you information regarding required network access and permissions necessary to configure in a secure environment.  This should provide the information necessary to modify your security software settings.  If it doesn't then you may want to apply a default setting provided by the manufacturer of the software.
In regards to why the Creative Cloud Desktop application is updated I would recommend reviewing the release notes at http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/release-note/cc-release-notes.html.  You can find a list of the changes which have been made.

  • Cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS)

    Hello
Does anyone know where can I find documentation on how to configure SaaS with WAAS?
I'm looking to setup salesforce application on the WAAS for WAN optimization out to the branch office. All I can find is whitepapers that talks about what it does. I need detail steps on how to properly configure it or examples showing how to.
Do you just build an SSL service connection to *.salesforce.com?
How will the traffic from the branch office be able to route to salesforce.com when they have their own local ISP?
Do you add static routes for all of the possible IP addresses for the application out of your Data Center? If so, this makes it very difficult to manage since the cloud service can change their IP address at any given time.
I would appreciate for someone to give me a simple example to follow. :-)
    Thanks in advance!
    John

    Hello John,
I am not an expert on this but still PLEASE read the following on detailed, you will find most of your questions answered:
Simplified Deployment Model for Cloud-Based Services
Cloud-based  software-as-a-service (SaaS) providers such as WebEx.com and  Salesforce.com primarily use HTTPS to securely deliver services to their  clients. Using Cisco WAAS SSL Application Optimizer, Cisco WAAS can  optimize delivery of these services to the remote branch-office users  who connect to these services through a backhaul connection to the data  center.
However,  the solution poses some unique challenges related to simplifying the  implementation and deployment model. Typically, SaaS providers have  multiple SSL server farms with multiple hosts spanning several data  centers. When a client initiates an SSL connection request to a server  located in the SaaS server farm, the Cisco WAAS SSL Application  Optimizer needs to map the destination IP address in the incoming SSL  request to an SSL accelerated service to present the right SSL  certificate to the client to perform an SSL handshake.
For  SSL services that are hosted in the enterprise data center, the IT  administrator knows and controls the SSL server IP address and can  provide it to the data center Cisco WAAS. But for an SSL service hosted  at a third-party SaaS provider cloud, the SSL server IP address is not  controlled by the IT administrator. Also, there may be not just one but  multiple server IP addresses even for a single SaaS service, and these  may be subject to change.
To  simplify the deployment model for SaaS optimization, Cisco WAAS  provides support for domain names in the SSL accelerated service  configuration. This model can be applied to any cloud-based SaaS  applications such as Salesforce.com and WebEx.com. For example, when an  SSL accelerated service is configured in the data center Cisco WAE with a  wildcard domain name (for instance, *.webex.com) option, the Cisco WAAS  SSL Application Optimizer performs a reverse Domain Name System (DNS)  lookup on the destination server IP upon receiving an SSL connection  request from the client, and if the IP address resolves to a host that  matches the configured wildcard domain name (for instance, *.webex.com),  then the appropriate SSL accelerated service policy is applied to this  connection (Figure 3).

    hope this helps!

  • Sun management software

    Hi,
we are looking at sun management software and noticed that it costs about $300+ per client.
what is an alternative to this which is less expensive or free?
what are you other admins doing?
    thanks,
    ~jv

I, too, have been trying to sort out the options and tools for supporting Solaris 9 and 10.
This maybe behond the scope of your question but here is some of what I've uncovered in the last couple of years:
The class Intermediate System Administration (SA 239) has you download the recommended patch cluster and install using ./install_cluster. This works but you will not know which patches will be installed until after the fact. So this process does not support preparing for any changes made by the patches.
The only other process that I have used involve using a non Sun script - pca from http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/intro.html This perl script has many options but the "pretend" option makes it easy to determine which patches will be installed and what revision of the patch is currently installed.
Here are some of the sources I use to try an keep up with patches and other technical details of supporting Solaris
If you have a SunSolve account you can subscribe to email alerts at:
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/editSubscribedDocuments.do
There are 6 "collections" of "New Documents". I receive a single daily email. The email contains a numbered list (with URLs) for each collection that has New Documents. The collections are:
BUG             (includes bug number and very short description URL)
INFODOC         (includes short description, the INFODOC number is imbedded in the URL)
PATCH           (includes patch number short description/title and URL)
SRDB            (Symptoms and Resolutions - includes short description and URL)
SUNALERT        (including short description and URL)
TROUBLESHOOTING (including short description and URL)Another source for patch information is the SUNSOLVE[SM] PATCH CLUB report (sign up at https://subscriptions.sun.com/subscription_center/ecomm.jsp). This a weekly email with four main sections. The first section has one line for each new patch with a short title/description. The second section has an entry for each patch with more details (includes keywords, synopsis, Solaris Release, bugid's fixed and other details) - but no URLs. The thrid section is a list of Withdrawn patches. The fourth section has an entry for each withdrawn patch that includes reason and recommendation details.
SUN(SM) ALERT WEEKLY SUMMARY REPORT is another source. This one covers "critical hardware and software issues". It includes the Sun Alert ID and URL. Sign up is at the same URL as the Patch Club report above.
    have good weekend,

  • I accidentally removed my iPad from iTunes in the cloud manage devices.    is there any way I can restore this?

I accidentally removed my iPad from iTunes in the cloud manage devices is there anyway I can restore this?

    Hi Eric Ferguson,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For troubleshooting on this, take a look at this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • How can I put back my iPhone as a device in View My Account iTunes in the Cloud Manage Devices?

I went into this list and noticed that I had my old iPhone 3Gs and my new iPhone 5s listed as devices. I also had 2 PC's listed.  So there were 4 devices associated wih my Apple ID.  Here is a little background.  When setting up my new phone, I had mistakenly given the new phone the identical name as my old iPhone 3GS, then realized that was a mistake because it would be hard to differentiate between the 2 phones in lists (for example: Restore backup lists is a very good example).  So I changed the name of my new phone so it would be different.
My old phone was called Bruce's iPhone and my new iPhone was called Bruce's 5s.  Even though I had changed the name of my new phone, the list of devices under View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Manage Devices had the 2 phones still listed with the same name, Bruce's iPhone.  I was able to tell the difference by the date the devices were established, but I did not like that.
So I used the 'Remove' button and deleted the listing for the newer listing of Bruce's iPhone.   Now, no matter what I try I can not get that new name and that device to get back on the list.  There are now 3 devices only.
Since I did this, I have developed the issue where when I sync, the system hangs on Step 7 of the Sync, "Waiting for changes to be applied". I stopped it after 3+ hours.  Then I restored my most recent backup (to the Cloud) and the next Sync worked.  I have no idea if the above action on my part is in any way connected to my developing the syncing issue.
Does anyone know how I can get that device, my new iPhone 5s, called Bruce's 5s back on this list of devices?  I seem to be able to do all the actions I want to with the devicer and my Apple ID.  But the coincidence of the above change that I ran into didn't make me smile either.
Thanks in advance for any input/help?
