I know this isn't the right thread, but I didn't know where else to post this.
I am looking for the best business software. I need to be able to work with money, inventory ect. I sell cosmetics and need a software that will work for me

While there are people who run their businesses almost entirely on AppleWorks, I'd hesitate to recommend beginning that process at this point in AW's development cycle.

Standard uses of log4j in designing business software

I'm currently doing a research on the standard usage of the 5 levels of Log4j. My question is that is there a standard convention of which level to use when we program? Like should we use DEBUG more often than INFO? I understand that there are certain circumstances which require us to use a specific level. However, how about when we don't have the special cases; which level do we use usually (esp. when we write programs at the production level)? Is there a general concensus/convention/standard?
Also, what is a good approach/standard for logging entry and exit of the method?
I know that this might be a quite specific question. I'm also trying to find out what other programmers/companies are doing...(do they have a standard way of using it?) But It seems really hard to find exact information I'm looking for. If anyone could offer some outlets for finding the solutions to my question, that'd be great. Thank you.

This is a bit off-topic, since this forum is dedicated to Java Business Integration (JSR 208) specifically, rather than general business software topics. Also, JBI provides direct support for the standard Java logger. Other loggers can be used by JBI plug-in components, but these should be either adapted to the standard logger, or else the ability to correlate activity by multiple plug-in components will be lost, or at least made very difficult.
I'm not aware of a general consensus about use of logging levels, and separate loggers. In general, it is good to remember there are two separate audiences for logs:
- users, wishing to understand the behaviour of the application (particularly misbehaviour!)
- developers, wishing to understand the technical behaviour of the application.
There are two separate domains. The user needs to understand what is happening in terms of application domain concepts. The developer needs to understand what is happening in terms of implementation domain concepts. (In O-O these can intersect.)
For each type of logger audience, the various logging levels are used to develop a more and more detailed picture of application activities, as the level is increased to finer granularity. Each level should develop a coherent, consistent explanation of applicaition activity. It helps to have project guidelines about what should be logged at each level, so that levels are used consistently throughout an application.
The actual guidelines are a product of the application domain itself, pragmatism, and developer "taste." We've all seen logging systems that permit flexible, useful diagnosis of troubles experiences by production systems, and we've all seen counterexamples: logging systems that produce meaningless data, or that cripple the production system when turned on at the lowest logging volume. We tend of imitate those successful examples, and avoid repeating the failures.
There are academic studies of using program traces of a specific kind to help validate the program (i.e., the trace can be demonstrated to be coming from a correct or incorrect implementation). These studies don't look at logging levels, as far as I have seen: they assume a trace that is related to a formal model of the application, which is much different in purpose than most application logging.

InDesign invoices or business software suggestions

Hello,
I've been using InDesign to create all my invoices with the help of Excel to calculate amounts, taxes, etc. Of course, since i have to manually enter everything in my ID file, sometimes mistakes happen....
Someone once told me in these forums that he had stopped using ID for invoicing and had simply bought a business software. That's great but which one? I would still like to use my "template" in these software (as a background) and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions as to which software is the best?
I'm from Canada (tax purposes) so only US software might not let me add another custom tax. Yeah! In Québec, we have the highest tax rates in the WORLD..... ;-((

I use Quick Books have designed my own Invoice color and all, then I use the setting pre printed Invoices and when you set it up in the template spaced correctly it will print in all the blanks.

What is the best home and business software program to run on a Mac?

What is "home and business software"? Are you looking for a word processor? Spreadsheet? Financial planner? Calendar? Database? Your question is much like walking into your local hardware store and asking for "the best tool" without specifying what job you're hoping for the tool to do.

A photo upload application in my business software will no longer work, as I keep getting the message "Application Error General Exception"; how can I fix this?

This seems to be tied in with an update to Java 7, but my software won't allow me to proceed w/o the update. As soon as I update Java, the system gets corrupted and I just continually get the above message. I've done all I know to do, and I'm on my 4th 'restore', all the way back to June 14th. I really need this resolved, as my livelihood depends, in part on uploading pix I take in the field.
I'm using a 2.3Gh dual-core PC w/ 4 Gs of RAM on a totally updated WIndows XP operating system using Mozilla Firefox.
PLEASE, if there's a fix readily available, or if you can help me find one, I would be most seriously grateful.

Assuming it is a stand-alone program:
If you need to stick with an older version of Java until that software is updated, you can disable Java in your web browers to protect against its vulnerabilities. Naturally this will disable some website features (for example, this uploader on sites that use it). To disable Java in all browsers, you can use the Java control panel, security tab and uncheck the box to use Java in browsers.
(I don't know whether that takes effect immediately or after exiting and restarting the browsers.)

Business Software for Blackberry 8330

I want to store and read Word, Excel, and PDF files on my Blackberry memory card (2G). Preferably these files can be uploaded from my desktop computer and saved from email attachments.
Crackberry.com offers two programs that seem to do this, eOffice and Master Doc.
Any feedback on these programs or others to accomplish my goal will be appreciated.

With your 8330 upgraded to OS 4.5, you will get DocumentsToGo (WordToGo and SlidesToGo) for free, and then you can update the initially installed application to include SheetsToGo for free. All can be read and opened from your Media Card.
For PDFs on the Media Card, you will need either BeamReader or Repligo. Both have beta PDF on-device applications.

Business tax software for mac?

Anyone know of business tax (estates) software for Mac? I'd rather not use Parallels, Windows, etc.

I've been an eBay Power Seller for several years. When I started out I was using a Dell with Win/XP and I purchased Intuit's Quickbooks Professional 2006. I've since dumped my Dell, gone to two iMac's and a MacBook Air. Unfortunately, I have not found an AFFORDABLE, easy to use, and easy to migrate to product that runs natively on the Mac. I am using VMware's Fusion V4 and Win/XP under it. The QB Pro still plugs along doing a great job of keeping my bookkeeping straight. I've got a couple ham radio related programs that do not have Mac counterparts, so I can't say that Fusion is used strictly for QB.
While I can't give you a suggestion for business software for the Mac, my suggestion is that you shouldn't 100% rule out a Win-based product. Performance-wise, my Win apps are very fast running under Fusion.

Is it unlawful to sell my used final cut studio version 3 software?

I had listed my software at eBay after deauthorizing it from my Mac Pro. Was I under a contract with Apple that prevented me from reselling the software?(I'm afraid I don't have time to read pages of fine print.) Here's the message I just received from eBay after the closed my auction:

eBay heavily "overprotects" copyright owners.
The BSA is hired by Apple to look out for copyright violations. They simply go after everything without any investigation. eBay plays along and so you are the one with the problem to do something completely lega.
Here is the relevant section of FCS's SLA:
3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the Apple Software. You may, however, make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, original media, printed materials and this License; (b) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (c) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License. All components of the Apple Software are provided as part of a bundle and may not be separated from the bundle and distributed as standalone applications.
This means that you are allowed to sell the package if you are the original owner of the software.

What is license count of installing or use O365 Pro plus software per user for Bussiness

Today in our office given demo of Office 365 usages and license details , but i am little bit confused on licensing.
They told we can use Office 365 Pro Plus software into 15 Device ( 5 Windows PC + 5 MAC + 5 Mobile or Tablets).

Error when installing Lenovo solutions for small business [Screenie included]

Hello everyone.
Recently, I tried opening the pre-installed Lenovo solutions for Small Business software on my Lenovo e530 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit version (Upgraded from Win 7 Home Prem 64-bit) but failed after getting a message for encountering a critical problem of some sort. I then tried restarting my computer and that did not solve the problem. And then, I decided to install an upgrade version of it from this website http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS030146. But before that I uninstalled the previous version by uninstalling Intel Small Business advantage customizations with Revo Uninstaller and I deleted all the related folders too with a thorough scan. Out of my expection, I got this message below saying that I could not proceed due to some unspecified error. Has anyone encountered the same problem before? Does anyone have a solution for this? I'm not sure if that's my computer's problem or from the driver itself. Thank you for your attention to this issue.

This should be configurable under msconfig. This is a program that you can use to tell your computer which programs you want to start when Windows starts. To get to this program, type msconfig into the search bar in the Start menu. A window should appear. Check under the Startup tab and make sure that the Lenovo Solutions for Small Business program does not have a checkmark next to it. This should prevent this program from starting up when your computer turns on.

Looking for a Project Management software package for macs

while I'm on the hunt for some good business software for my mac, I am also looking for a good project managment program, in the spirit of MS Project, but "Apple-ized".
Open to suggestions from somebody with experience.

Planning Oracle in e-business Solution

My company is in the process of evaluating Oracle in conjunction with a -business software package.
Potentially the clients On-Line to the Database could be in the thousands at any one time.
Are there any guidelines as to what configurations you should have it terms of the installation of Oracle and hardware that you should be using.
Are there any books/papers that have been published that look into how many concurrent users Oracle support before Oracle starts to degrade and the hardware needed for this.
I assume it is not a 'Suck it and see' process.

it's a bit difficult to know where to start with this, but....
have you checked the log file from the report to see what the error actually is? - without this any answers will be largely guesswork.
A few pointers though...
If you area creating an extension to EBS, then you should create a custom application. If you do not, you are likely to lose your custom code when you upgrade. You will also need to have the appropriate directory structure on the server.
Did you copy the rdf file in to the right directory?
Try those tips first and see iof the report runs now.

Question: Why hasn't Palm put its software in an ereader? Its a perfect fit.

Maybe I'm missing some product out there, but why is Palm putting all its effort into Pre's and other micro screen phone devices, all aimed at twenty-somethings with good eyes, and not into ereaders? Look, I'm over 50. My eyes don't focus on miniature letters. I DON'T read books or anything else on a phone screen. I'm not going to watch movies on my phone, nor surf the net (slowly, I might add). What I am going to do is do all the things I currently do on my Palm TX: Schedule my appointments, keep notes (DayNotez is not really available on any other platform), use databases and spreadsheets, etc. You know. Business type of applications.
Then I see the ereaders popping up everywhere. Perfect. Big screens (or at least considerably bigger than my TX screen). I was sure that Palm, which has the best operating system for such applications, would surely join the fray! Nope. Instead Palm is out trying to compete with the iphone for twenty-somethings who want to play music videos on their phones.
Listen up Palm: There is a huge and growing population of people over the age of 40 who want a WORK application, like the Palm handhelds, that operate on a larger screen. Imagine a Kindle with a Palm operating system! I could carry all of the books I need, many of which are work related, AND keep my schedule, AND put all my other very useful Palm applications on my device.
WAKE UP PALM! Put your system on an Ereader!

This is precisely my point. Palm is trying to compete, using its new OS, with the Apple iphone. It won't win. Moreover, the presumption of phone based systems is that the eyesight of the users is good, or even excellent. This is true if you are in your twenties, or maybe thirties. It isn't true in your 40's of 50's. I also read ebooks on by Palm TX. Its just a bit too small. I can buy an ereader, which I will probably eventually be forced to do because I need a larger screen for larger text, but then I will have two devices to carry rather than one. The bulk of the U.S. population will be over 50 in a few short years. They want their PDA's. Imagine this: If Palm, or the new owner of the operating system, put its system on an ereader (which, by the way, are still in their infancy), it could create a device that is 1) an ereader; 2) a PDA; and 3) able to use other products like spreadsheets and databases. All of this would be on a screen large enough for a person with less than perfect eyesight (i.e., pretty much anyone over 40) to use. Moreover, for work purposes, resource books and documents could be carried inside the ereader/PDA along with calendars, contacts, spreadsheets, and everything else. An "all in on" product. Hmmm, sounds like what Palm used to be.
As it is, Apple's itouch and iphone have really minimal business software. Most ereaders are limited to reading books bought online from one bookseller or another. I haven't run Palm's new system, but if they made it so it actually works like a PDA rather than a toy for watching movies on a miniature screen, it might work as the basis for a ereader/PDA.
In any event, I find it sad to see Palm trying to compete in a market where it is highly likely to be swept away. In the meantime, the perfect niche exists for its original software, where it excelled and where its expertise lies. Either Palm enters the ereader/PDA environment quickly or it will be left in the dust. In fact, Apple's new ereader seems oriented toward the PDA market. The problem is, it will likely have the weak functionality of the itouch, which treats business uses as an afterthought. As much as I like the dazzle of Apple's itouch and the like, Apple never has obtained the daily nuts and bolts functionality Palm had with its old operating system. In fact, no one has. But bet on it: If Palm doesn't act quickly, someone will. Maybe the company Palm so foolishly sold its old operating system to.
