Button to save form as custom name
Tried searching using various phrases on how to accomplish this task, but didn't have much luck.
I've created a form in Acrobat Pro XI, that contains various user-entered fields. I've enabled the form to allow Reader users to save their entered data. Ideally, I'd like a button on the form that allows the user to automtically save the filled in form using information from one of the fields.
For example, say one of the text fields is named OrderID.
User entered a value of "12345" in the OrderID field.
I'd like to create a button (or whatever) that saves the current form as "12345_Widgets.pdf"
Is this even possible?
If not, any alternative suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

edit: For what it's worth, I do know how to create a button that will Save As, allowing the user to enter a name. Guess that would be my fallback plan.
C
This is mostly for a small, internal, workgroup so each user would most likely run it from a local copy. I guess the form is more like a checklist that happens to also document what was done.
Currently, I'm using a Task form in Outlook. Figured I'd play around & see if I could make something similar in Acrobat.

How can I add a Save button ( not save as ) for a custom fillable form ?
idea is ti to have a Save button at the bottom of each page where the person filling
the form clicks the save button on each page.( it is a 12 page fillable form )
The only thing I was able to do was add a button that opens a Save As
dialog box only.
My experience lever is - end user-intermediate.
Thnaks.Thanks for the response.
I wonder why it wont allow.
If I can save ( as opposed to save as) this form by clicking the save icon on the menu bar, I am not sure why it is no possible to do so on page level!

Save the PDF Form with Field Name
HI Guys,
I have the Requirment in PDF Form.The PDF Form is generated with the Adobe Live Cycle Designer.After generating the PDF Form the user filled the details in the form and save the filled form.while clicking the Save button the default PDF name is displayed in the File name box.The Requirement is iam having one field in the form.The Field name value should needs to displayed in the File name box during saving.Is it possible.Once its possible please let me know.This is needs to be delivered very shortly.
Thanks & Regards,
SatheshKumar RYou can save the form with name generated from a field's value, but therefore you will have to install a folder level script first and design a custom save button in your form.
You cannot do this with the applications save or save as... buttons, and you also cannot rename a file on submit.
Here's an example form and a folder level script. (Maybe to complicated fdr newbies)

Using javascript you can show/hide ribbon on particualr page.
Open your SharePoint master page
Locate this line: <div
id="s4-ribbonrow"
class="s4-pr s4-ribbonrowhidetitle">
Change it to: <div
id="s4-ribbonrow"
class="s4-pr s4-ribbonrowhidetitle"
style="display:none">
Now find the end of the “s4-ribbonrow” tag and add following
block right after it: <Sharepoint:SPSecurityTrimmedControl
ID="SPSecurityTrimmedControl2"
runat="server"
PermissionsString="AddAndCustomizePages">
<script
type="text/javascript">
document.getElementById("s4-ribbonrow").style.display =
"block"; </script> </Sharepoint:SPSecurityTrimmedControl>
Save the new master page and publish it.
Or try this feature.

Making a "Save As" button on a form
I need to make a "Save As" button on a form created in Designer 8.0.
This will go on a form that will be enabled for Reader 8.0, so user can fill in form, save filled form, and submit via e-mail.
I have tried to figure how to add a regular Button, and add a simple menu functionality like "Save As" but cannot.
I need step-by-step instructions for this, please... and I do not know much about scripting at all.
TIA,
Glenn CauleyHave a look in the Help (index Script Editor => about). This should give you more insight into how the Script Editor is used.
For this example, you'd just need to select your button, make sure the 'click' event is in the 'Show' drop-down, select 'JavaScript' from the 'Language' drop-down and then paste the script into the script editing field.
Thanks,
Mike

Add button to PDF Form to save file to specific location
I have a simple form that is completed daily by various supervisors. I have successfully added a button to the form to email the form which then sends the form to an email group. Now, I'm trying to add a second button to save the form to a network location. I'm looking for this to be a one-click type situation, where the button then saves the form to the specified folder on the network.
Lets call our form "Form.pdf". I'd like the filename to be "Form - date - time.pdf" where date and time are fields on the form that are completed by the user. The location will always remain the same and will be a UNC path ie \\server\share\filename
All users are using Acrobat X standard when completing the forms, will be connected to the network and will have permissions to write to the file share.
This seems like it sohould be easy, but I cant figure out how to do it in Acrobat.
Thanks in advance for any help.It's only possible if you can install a script on the local machine of each
user. For more info, see this tutorial:

I have been creating forms in InDesign and pulling into Acrobat XI Pro to do form fields. My client would like to fill in the PDF form using Reader, save under a different name locally on their device, and redistribute. The problem I have is that, sometimes, they want to redistribute the form as Read Only. I know how to flatten the form on a mobile device, but uncertain how they can do that with a PC or Mac using Adobe Reader. I looked at FormsCentral thinking there might be a solution going that route, but don't believe there is. Any advice?
FormsCentral won't help with flattening a form. You could set up the form in Acrobat so that the fields are set to read-only, using JavaScript. Not quite the same as flattening but it's the best Reader can do.
Note that when Reader is used to e-sign a document, it gets flattened, but this won't be possible if you need to Reader-enable the form and under certain other conditions. -
ERROR: Your web form must capture customer name and email address.
Hi,
I keep receiving this error message when trying to checkout and submit a payment.
ERROR: An error occurred. Your web form must capture customer name and email address. Please fix this issue and re-insert your web form on your web page.
The strange thing is it's only happening in chrome. It works perfectly in IE and firefox, the form submits and takes me to the order confirmation page. I've tested it on multiple PCs so it's definitely a chrome issue. Does anyone have any advice as to what could be causing this issue with chrome?
Thanks,
PeteCheck your eCommerce web form in the admin has the ID - 211729
This is what the form ID is, if you have deleted it and made a new one it will not Marry up
The things you normally look for with this error is The first name and last name along with email fields have the right ID and name parameters on the input. The javascript is picking those up so it looks like that is working.
So next is the form in the admin marrying up with the form on the page or in this case the Registration Buy layout. -
How to get HTML form name for use in Portal Form's custom layout?
I want to add a date selector to a Portal Form but the NAME attribute of the FORM HTML tag is dynamic.
To add a calendar icon that opens a date selector, I add the following tags to the custom layout after the date form field:
<img src="/images/calendar.gif" height="16" width="16" border="0">
The <form field name> is static, but the <form name> appears to be dynamic (e.g. WWVM3115, WWVM3116, WWVM3117, ...).
The custom layout uses substitution variables for the form fields and labels. Is there a substitution variable for the form name?Here's the javascript function someone recommended several years ago (on an oracle portal forum) that I've used successfully to reference fields in non-portlet portal forms:
function findItem(pFieldName) {
var vFormElements = document.forms[0].elements;
for(var i = 0; i < vFormElements.length; i++) {
if (vFormElements.name.indexOf("."+pFieldName+".") > -1) return i;
document.write(i);
return -1;
You can then reference the portal form field name using the column/field name only:
document.forms[0].elements[(findItem('COLUMN_NAME_HERE'))] -
How do i fix the "web form must capture customer name and email address" error?
Hi all,
I have a webform that is submitting securely to the bc servers. I get the response:
{"SystemMessage": { "success": False, "message": "ERROR: An error occurred. Your web form must capture customer name and email address. Please fix this issue and re-insert your web form on your web page." }}
I have verified that the "FirstName","LastName","EmailAddress" are actually gettting sent with their corresponding values. I can't seem to figure out why i keep getting this error. Can someone please lend a helping hand?!? Thanks guys... here's my code:
var rAction = 'https://site.worldsecuresystems.com/FormProcessv2.aspx?WebFormID=85886&OID={module_oid}&OTYPE={module_otype}&EID={module_eid}&CID={module_cid}&CC={module_urlcountryc ode}&Referrer={module_siteurl,true,true}&JSON=1';
var rData = 'FirstName='+escape(fName.val())+'&LastName='+escape(lName.val())+'&EmailAddress='+escape (email.val())+'&Username='+escape(username.val())+'&Password='+escape(passwd.val())+'&Pass wordConfirm='+escape(passwd2.val())+'&BillingAddress='+escape(baddress.val())+'&BillingCit y='+escape(bcity.val())+'&BillingState='+escape(bstate.val())+'&BillingZip='+escape(bzip.v al())+'&PaymentMethodType='+escape(paymentMethodType)+'&CardName='+escape(cName.val())+'&C ardNumber='+escape(cNum.val())+'&CardExpiryMonth='+escape(expMonth)+'&CardExpiryYear='+esc ape(expYear)+'&CardType='+escape(cType)+'&CardCCV='+escape(ccv.val())
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: rAction,
data: rData,
success: function(msg){
console.log('success');
$('#result').html(msg);
error: function(msg){
console.log('error');
$('#result').html(msg);Ok -- after testing this out a little on my own I think it must have to do with not properly serialzing the data you are passing in the ajax function. In the example I linked to earlier they are just serialzing the form data and it works because it converts the data in the form's input fields to URL encoded notation.
If you aren't using an actual form on your site to mimick the example I linked to then when building your "rData" string instead of using the "escape" function for each of the parameter values, you should be using the "encodeURIComponent" function instead which instead of escaping characters will convert it to URL encoded notation. That's probably your issue. Here's more about encodeURIComponent(): http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/jsref_encodeURIComponent.asp
Try this with the rData variable instead:
var rData = 'FirstName='+encodeURIComponent(fName.val())+'&LastName='+encodeURIComponent(lName.val()) +'&EmailAddress='+encodeURIComponent(email.val())+'&Username='+encodeURIComponent(username .val())+'&Password='+encodeURIComponent(passwd.val())+'&PasswordConfirm='+encodeURICompone nt(passwd2.val())+'&BillingAddress='+encodeURIComponent(baddress.val())+'&BillingCity='+en codeURIComponent(bcity.val())+'&BillingState='+encodeURIComponent(bstate.val())+'&BillingZ ip='+encodeURIComponent(bzip.val())+'&PaymentMethodType='+encodeURIComponent(paymentMethod Type)+'&CardName='+encodeURIComponent(cName.val())+'&CardNumber='+encodeURIComponent(cNum. val())+'&CardExpiryMonth='+encodeURIComponent(expMonth)+'&CardExpiryYear='+encodeURICompon ent(expYear)+'&CardType='+encodeURIComponent(cType)+'&CardCCV='+encodeURIComponent(ccv.val ()) -
How to Disable Save Button in interactive form via sfp
Dear,experts
My requirement is that Disable Save Button in interactive form via sfp .Is there any options to do this or write Javascript/Formcalc.Please help!
Thanks
Vince.I found a adobe documentation that says that If you want to disable some toolbar buttons, you will have to use application-level Javascript. Looks like it is not possible from ADLC
Place the following Javascript code inside a .js file in
%ProgramFiles%\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\JavaScripts to disable the toolbar buttons:
// [File - Create Adobe PDF Using Acrobat.com], plus toolbar button
app.hideMenuItem("WebServices:CreatePDF");
app.hideToolbarButton("Weblink:CreatePDF");
// [File - Collaborate], plus toolbar button
app.hideMenuItem("Annots:FileCollaboration");
app.hideToolbarButton("Annots:CollabToolButton");
app.hideToolbarButton("CommentTask");
app.hideToolbarButton("SigTaskButton");
app.hideToolbarButton("SaveFileAs");
app.hideToolbarButton("Save");

HI,
I have an XDP file designed by Adobe Designer 7.1 with the following hierarchy of elements:
-form1(root)
--Button
--tmpForm (subform - Repeat subform for each data entry )
---ST (Text)
Now, this XDP file generates an Interactive PDF form with Reader Rights enabled by the Adobe Document Services.
On click of button, the following javascript is executed on client side:
var df = _tmpForm.addInstance(1);
df.ST.rawValue = "HI" ;
xfa.host.messageBox( "Instances" + tmpForm.all.length ) ;
On clicking the button, i get the length of the instances of the subform and the size increases on each click, but no element is added "visibly" to the pdf.
But when i try to do the same by saving the XDP file as Dynamic PDF form for Acrobat 8.0,and open it using Adobe Acrobat PRO 8.0, it works fine.
My question is,I s it not possible to add subforms dynamically in PDF's generated by Adobe Document Services with Reader Rights enabled?
Or, is there something that i am missing?
Please guide.
Thanks.

SiddharthaHi,
you can't change the behavior of the save button in the browser nor in Reader/Acrobat.
You can add a custom button within your form which calls a custom script from a folder level script using the browserForDoc method.
The browseForDoc methos is the only one whcih can change the name in the saveAs dialog.
Here's an example., you can run from Acrobat console.
You need to combine it with the solution from the other thread to make it work with your form.
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2266799#2266799%232266799
var oRetn = app.browseForDoc({
bSave: true,
cFilenameInit: "MyForm.pdf",
cFSInit: "",
if (typeof oRetn !== "undefined") {
this.saveAs({
cFS: oRetn.cFS,
cPath: oRetn.cPath,
bPromptToOverwrite: false -
Can I use "Delete button" in intaractive form?
Hello Expert.
Please tell me the phenomenon of interactive form in Performance Management(MbO or OSA) .
I use "off line" solution.
Now our customer would like to delete button as delete some objectives who does not entry any comment.
Can I use this delete button in interactive form?
I cannot find the delete button in this form...
Best regards,
MakotoYou should try the LiveCycle Designer forum, but from my experience with Acrobat forms it's not possible. What you can do is either save the file using the desired file name and path (without user interaction), if the script runs from a trusted context, or you can prompt the user with the desired file-name for the file, but not enforce them to use it, nor populate it into the Save As dialog itself.
