Button with movie clipss

I using actionscript 2.0. My question seem simple. I am
putting movie clips onto the stage that have buttons within them.
However they do not work. I am sure if there is a tell target or
something else that I am not doing right. Should the code be on the
stage or within the movie clip.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciate.
Thanks,
Michael

the code can be on any timeline. you just need to use the
correct path. and you can't apply mouse handlers to the movieclip
and its child button.

  • Advanced Button with Movie Clip and Fading

    Problem: I'm trying to create a bottun that when you roll
    over it it plays a movie clip and also fades in and out on roll
    out. It is similiar to the three main navigating buttons on the
    following site.
    http://www.fjcruiser.ca/
    the buttons with the compasses that appear are the ones I am
    talking about.
    I already know how to make buttons, I just can't figure out
    the actionscripting to load the movie and also fade in and fade out
    according to roll over and roll out.
    Please help. Thank everyone.

    Amazingly, I actually know exactly how to do this. And it
    only requires about 4 lines of code in the _root layer and on the
    button.
    Instead of having the rollover load an external movie, you
    want the have the rollover execute an on(enterFrame) function that
    tells each newly entered frame of your movie to check to make sure
    the mouse is still on the button, and if not, send the movie
    playhead backwards.
    So, put that sampleMovie right on the stage with the button.
    Then write the code in the _root so that says: as long as the mouse
    is over the button, the movie will advance to nextFrame(). When it
    gets to the next frame, again the code checks to see if the mouse
    is on the button, if so, the movie is instruct to go one more next
    frame (which is tweening the fade, right?) again, over and over
    until the stop() at the last frame. But, if while while entering a
    frame, the code finds that the mouse is no longer over the button,
    it does the same thing but this time instructs prevFrame(), and so
    on, going prevFrame (backwards, in other words) as long as the
    mouse is not on the button.
    The result of the above is a gradual fade in and out,
    depending on whether the mouse is hovering. This, as opposed to an
    abrupt disappearing graphic on(rollOut).
    Click the below link for the .fla that demonstrates this
    technique (which, by the way, I learned from Joshua Davis'
    excellent book, "flash to the core". Check it out at Amazon, or
    wherever. Lots of cool tricks).

  • Animating a button with actionScript

    I'm fairly stumped on this one - but probably quite simple to fix.
    I need to animate the scale of a button with actionScript 2.0. I've inherited a project that was done with actionScript 2.0 and have decided to stay with this generation rather than rewrite the whole project. Anyway - I've created a sound object, it plays audio from the library and 3 seconds after it starts playing, I want to animate the "next" button and make it pulse to attract the users attention.
    Doing this by putting the button in a movie clip is not working as I am losing it's button states and besides it's probably far more tighter to program it.
    When the user rolls over the button it stops pulsing but still retains it's up, over and down states.
    Any easy answer?

    Thanks for your help Ned.
    I ended up making an advanced button with movie clips and using programming for all the states.
    Movies are so much easier to control than buttons.
    But you have raised something I had overlooked...setTimeout( )
    I was using setInterval( ) and then doing clearInterval( ) within the function so it would only loop once, which of course was problematic if the user beat the 'clearInterval' code by clicking on the button too early.
    Actually used setInterval( ) to delay all sound on the project - now going to re-program all that.
    Thanks

  • How do You create menu buttons that move up and down with a remote?

    I have six menu items that are linked to their proper locations. When I simulated it a Hand moves over the proper choice then when I click there we go.
    But on the DVD simulator you can't navigate. I thought maybe I would bring in one of the templates to use their buttons I can't get my images to replace theirs. Any help appreciated.
    Jerome

    Take a look here to make sure buttons are being set properly
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/buttons07m.php
    And download the movie if you like
    I create a button, then set the text and include highlights
    I then create another button, then set the text and the include highlights
    I then click on the menu and go to the inspector to see colors
    RED Normal
    BLUE Selected
    YELLOW Activated
    In simulater I then use the remote control and CANNOT navigate through the buttons
    I stop Simulator and then use Auto Assign Buttons Now Command, then relaunch Simulator and get the remote control to work
    Make sure to link the button to the track you want to go to.
    I thought the issue is that you cannot navigate the buttons with the remote control? If you only have one button on the screen, it will always be selected (Yellow in your project as described)
    If it is flashing Megenta and nothing happens, it means a target has not been set (or somehow you are targeting the menu again)
    So the only two condiitions you will see is yellow or magenta.

  • Macbook pro fails to read sd card with movies recorded on it, any ideas? I can view them in the video camera so know they are there somewhere. I am now thinking I should have formatted or initialised the new card before using it.

    My macbook pro is failing to read a new sd card with movies recorded on it. Any ideas please? A previously used SD card has downloaded without problems. I have tried using a card reader as well as downloading from the video camera itself, neither works.
    I can view the latest recordings on the video camera so know they are there somewhere. I am now thinking I should have formatted or initialised the new card before using it but didn't think of that at the time. Obviously don't want to do this now as it will wipe the movies.

  • Is it possible to make a button with multiple paths?

    Hello and good day Everyone
    I want to make a flash game with a map leading to various places for example school or beach like this http://www.yotreat.com/sites/default/files/190-160_1286.jpg
    if the player goes to the school she will find the teacher, and if the player goes to the beach se will find the coach.
    How can I make the player (for example) talks to the teacher at school, returns to the main map, and goes to the beach to talk with the coach, yet if she goes to the school again, the dialogue with the teacher won't be the same with first dialogue?
    =>>> Is it possible to make a button with different paths to go? As if you've watched frame A, then you push the same button again it will take you to frame B??? <<<=
    Sorry for my confusing description... I hope you get the idea >,<
    Im so desperate... I've been searching for articles about this since yesterday and I still can't find one to solve this problem of mine.
    Making games is my dream... I've made some very simple games, but I want to try a new level of difficulty
    Please help me? (>o<

    Thank you for the advice, sir Ned Murphy!
    Yes, I try to use variables now, but face another problem with it... would you please tell me what's wrong with my script?
    Here, in label: "School" I type:
    on (release) {
    if (point = 0){
    gotoAndStop("dialogue1");
    else if (point = 10){
    gotoAndStop("dialogue2");
    else {
    gotoAndStop("dialogue3");
    (it's only a testing, so I only use these 4 labels)
    and in label: "dialogue1", "dialogue2",and "dialogue3" I type:
    on (release) {point += 10;}
    on (release) {
    _root.gotoAndStop("school");
    The result when I test movie:
    1. At "School" (shows point=0), I click the button,
    2. then occurs "dialogue2" (shows point=10), I click the button,
    3. then back at "school" (shows point=20), I click the button,
    4. then occurs "dialogue2" again (shows point=10)
    even the first shot is wrong
    point=0 should be the entrance to "dialogue1", but all I can get is "dialogue2"...
    Please tell me what's wrong with my script, sir Ned Murphy,
    Thank you very  much

    Tami

  • Flash Newbie needs help with Movie Clips/Action Scripting

    Hi -
    I'm having a problem with my movie clips playing
    simultaneously and cannot, for the life of me, figure out what I
    have done wrong. I'm new to flash, so I may have set something up
    incorrectly, but here's what I have so far:
    11 layers, total: 1 layer with 10 control buttons, each
    button with the following actionscript:
    on (release) {
    gotoAndPlay(85);
    Where the number changes in relation to which keyframe the
    next movie is on.
    I have 10 movies, total, but they are only movie clips,
    essentially photo slide shows with audio, made all in the library.
    The problem happens when I click on the second or third
    button. Not only does the movie that I have selected begin to play,
    but all of the previous clips do as well, so it all sounds quite
    garbled. I don't know what I am missing in the action script, as my
    Action Layer has a stop command on it at each keyframe where there
    is a new clip to play.
    I have tried to add a stopAllSounds command, but I'm afraid
    that doesn't do anything because it is not a "sound file" per se,
    playing in the timeline.
    I'm at the end of my rope and really need some help in
    figuring this one out. My project is hanging in the balance on
    this, as I have scripted everything else correctly and it runs
    beautifully.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Caroline

    Each layer has a blank keyframe before and after each
    movieclip. Each movie clip is at a different frame. Even with the
    blank keyframes added, the second video starts to play and then the
    first video begins to play. Same happens if I click on the third
    button. Third plays, and starts 1st and 2nd shortly thereafter. Is
    there an action script I can put in that will tell the timeline
    that, when a button is clicked, no matter where the movieclip is,
    it will stop and start the newly selected movieclip?

    They do not have to be on the same layer, but they should not
    exist on the timeline for the entire movie, just where they are
    necessary.
    Lets say you have three movieclips ten frames apart on the
    timeline. Mc1 (movieclip1) is on frame 1, Mc2 is on frame 11, and
    Mc3 is on frame 21. Mc1 should only be on the timeline from frame
    1-10, then it should not exist on frame 11. This way if you jump to
    frame 11 only Mc2 will play, because Mc1 isn't on the timeline
    anymore.
    They do not have to be on the same layer.
    It may help if you email me the file. My address is on my
    name on the lefthand side of this forum post.

  • Just started using Safari, 5.1 on Win XP.  Places where there used to be check boxes now have little buttons with triangles on them; clicking them seems to have no visible effect.  Help!

    I just started using Safari, using Safari 5.1 on Win XP.  Any place where there used to be a check box, there's now a little button with a triangle on it.  The triangle changes orientation as I move the mouse cursor around, but there is no visible change if I click on it.  Yet it appears that I must click on it to check, or uncheck, the box; I just can't tell whether it's checked.  If I can't get this to work better, I'll have to give up on Safari.  Please help.  (Note: there's one at the head of this thing saying "Mark this discussion as a Question - this encourages people to answer for points and helps you track answers."  I clicked on it, but don't know whether it's checked or not.  That's a fairly minor example.)

    Can you provide an SSCCE that demonstrates this behavior?

  • Buttons in Movie Clips, Movie Clips in Movie Clips

    Here goes. I have a scene with a button in the timeline, that
    targets a frame in a movie clip, which is essentially the content
    area of the layout. this is the code used:
    on (release) {
    textmov.gotoAndPlay ("challenge");
    This works fine and dandy. Now the problem. Within this
    "Content" movie clip, i have another movie clip with a button in
    it. This clip is designed to tween in then upon clicking a close
    button tween out. When I test it the button doesn't have rollovers
    like and I can't get it to talk to the clip above it to play the
    close tween.

    > I am still struggling with the fact, that upon testing,
    buttons in movie clips

    any graphic symbols

    in the FlashPlayer.
    is there any place you could kindly upload the source file
    for me to check ?
    > Do buttons operate independently of the Movie Clip
    timeline they are placed in?
    that is correct, button should work independently to movie
    clip.
    it only react to mouse upon entering the HIT state (which is
    invisible to user)
    and stops reacting once the mouse is off that state.
    > I have one Movie Clip with a one frame time line, should
    a Button symbol work
    > it it?
    of course it should work...
    Try to upload the source, let us check it out for you, spare
    you time on guessing :)

  • [iPhone SDK] non-rectangular button with png

    Is there any way to create an image button with a png. but make it so that the transparent areas are not hittable?

    Now we're cooking with gas! Thank you so much for your
    assistance!
    The only issue left;
    is it possible for the Events to penetrate through, so that
    if two elements slightly overlap, the transparent part of obj1 will
    allow a onclick (and subsequently the onmouseover) event on el2,
    preferably dynamically so that I don't have to add event handlers
    between the two.
    Is there a simple way or do i need to calculate the overlap
    using the x/y coords and width/height of each element, then
    manually dispatch?
    here's where I'm at thus far (with this discussion)
    Firstly, the class for the movie clip,
    then our frame.

  • Creating a button with text in FlashCS5

    I am fairly new with using FlashCS5.  I just finished the class and created a button with text in it for class but now when I need to do it for a project I can't seem to get it to work.
    I am trying to create a simple start and stop button to start and stop a Flash movie.  I can get the buttons to work without any text, such as the word start and stop in the middle of each.  Everything I've tried to do with the text on the button turns out the same.
    What happens is that in Flash the buttons appear to work fine.  The little hand with the finger shows no matter where I place my cursor on the button but when I test them the area where the text is does not allow the click to work.  I have tried specifying a hit area and made sure that the hit area was larger than the entire button but still the middle where the text is doesn't work.   Outside of the text area works fine.
    Any ideas?  I've spent 4 hours on this.

    Thank you for the reply but what I am doing is much simpler.  I am creating a gray rectangle and putting text in the center.  I am then selecting both the rectangle and the text and converting it to a button.  I am then editing the button from the library and adding a keyframe to the hit area, drawing a rectangle around the button to establish the hit area.
    I am enabling simple buttons and when in Flash it appears fine.  It is when I test that the area where the text is doesn't function as clickable.

  • Working with movies in Acrobat

    Jerry
    I found this issue from February 2010 this person seems to have the same problem as me. Perhaps this text explains my problem better?
    I am getting into creating a multimedia PDF, with links to a number of FLV videos and I have some basic questions:
    Can       the floating video box be positioned where I want it or does it      always  have to appear in the upper right of the page as it does now?
    Is      there a way to force the video box to close when the video is done?
    Is       there any control over the frame style of the video box? Specifically,      I  would like to see the 'x' in the upper right corner of the box      that is  used to close the player be made larger and more obvious.      Can I do this?

    You can't do that as a link just takes you to a location, it can't control what happens after that.  What you could do is create separate PDFs of just the one product that you link to, but that opens up more problems too.

  • Deactivate a button until movie clip is complete

    I am creating several self study courses for my company's
    intranet. I added buttons for nextFrame and prevFrame to allow the
    user to navigate at their own pace. My problem is that a frame may
    include a movie clip that needs to play before the next button
    appears (or is activated).
    Thank you from an old dog trying to learn new tricks.

    Hello!
    Maby you could disable your button with this little script in
    the timeline:
    YourButton'sInstancename.enabled = false;
    That will disable your button.
    Enyways, if your problem is what I think it is.. you might
    reslove your problem by making the movieclip like this:
    Start by making a new movieclip. Name it as you would like
    it.
    In the first frame of your MC (movieclip) start making the
    animation with tween and whatever you want. When the animation is
    done, make a new layer INSIDE your MC and on the frame where your
    animation stops, drag in the button, or make something and convert
    it to a button. Make sure you have this script in the same frame as
    your button: stop() ; So, when the animation is finished, the MC
    stops at the button.
    After that, just type the script inside your button. Like
    ex.:
    on (release) {
    gotoAndStop("scene 1", 1);
    You have to change scene 1 to the name of your scene which
    you want to go to after clicking the button, and change 1 to the
    framenumber you want to go to.
    Hope this helps!
    Happy smile,
