BW BEX Queries and Analysis Authorizations

Hello....
Have an opportunity with BW BEX queries and Analysis Authorization...would like to see if anyone has had the same experience and if so is there a answer....
1) given a query....
2) given a analysis authorization with a info-object that has intervals defined to be both single values and ranged values
the following happens...
after the query is fired the starter screen appears...the info-object in question appears with the defined single values only....if....the window is opened....again only the single values appear...the range values do not appear...once the query is executed the only results given are those for the single values...
also if you re-fire the query and manually enter a valid value for the info-object that falls with-in any of the range values no result is given...even if there is data for it....the reponse given is no data found....
NOW...if the single values, for the given info-object, are removed from the Analysis Authoriization then the range values appear and work....
Is this a problem within in the query...or...is this a "feature" of the query...and thus must be "lived" with...
Terry
PS...this problem currently only happens if the window for the info-object allows for multi-selection....this problem does not occurr when the window only allows for one selection...

Hi,
This is a known problem with analysis authorization and multi selection IO selection criteria.
When you define the analysis authorization with ranges and when you try to enter single values on the selection critera of the query, then the system shows zero data.
You can run the query without entering any selection values for the IO in question only.
I have tried several combinations and still encountering the same issue.

  • Transport roles and analysis authorization with user assigned

    Hi expert,
I face with this problem transport roles and analysis authorization with user assigned. When I have created a transport request to move the roles and analysis authorization from development system to test system. I couldnu2019t maintain the user assigned, after transport I have to assigned manually all of user or create a program to fill AGR_USER table or there are other way.
    Thanks for your time,
    Luis

    Hi,
In role administration, you have the following options for transporting roles:
You can download the roles from one system and upload them into another
You can import the role from a remote system using RFC
You can transport the roles with the transport function.
Role upload loads all role data, including authorization data from a file into the SAP system. The user assignments for the role and the generated profiles for the role are exceptions in this case.
Transporting Roles with the Role Transport Function
           1.      Start the role administration function by choosing Tools ® Administration ® User Maintenance ® Role Administration ® Roles (transaction PFCG).
           2.      Enter the role to be transported and choose Transport Role.
The Mass Transport of Roles screen appears. You can control the default settings for the options Also transport single roles for composite roles and Also transport generated profiles for roles using Customizing switches (see Role Administration Functions in the section Functions of the Utilities Menu).
You should not change the authorizations profiles of the role after you have included the role in a transport request. If you need to change the profiles or generate them for the first time, transport the entire role again afterwards.

  • Role and Analysis Authorizations in BI

    Hello allo,
Since analysis authorizations contains carateritics like infocube, queries, activities., is using role and the PFCG transaction (authorizations object)in BI obsolete ? i.e is Analysis authorizations completely replacing Authorization objects (and PFCG) in BI ?
    thanks !!

    Hatem,
You have an option to use the old method however it's recommend to use analysis authorizations going forward.
Take a look at the sap wiki for analysis auth for more info or search the site for other good info.

  • Role and Analysis Authorization Transport

    Dear Experts,
I'm working with migration authorization project from 3.5 to 7.0. My doubt is when migrate in development enviroment enhancement each whith join S_RS_AUTH with Analysis Authorization which the role doesn't have any users assigning and transport to test enviroment where have a same role with user assigning. Do lose the user assign?
    Thank for all,
    Luis

    Hi,
I think it will orverwrite the Role. If you want to lock the target system against import of user assignments, you can goto sm30 (Table - PRGN_CUST). Make an entry - USER_REL_IMPORT (value - NO).
    Thanks

  • ' Character present in BEx queries and Workbooks

    Hi Guys,
I've got a problem with the ' character when executing a query or workbook.
This character only becomes apparent when clicking on a cell (appears in the formula bar in excel)  (usually apears in cells which does not have a value).
This character is proving problematic for users referencing the report results in other excel sheets.
Is there any way I can get rid of this?

  • Standard authorization concept versus analysis authorizations

    Hi
I am bit confused about the necessity of maintaining both.
    Example:
I have designed an analysis authorizations for CO (Controlling), named CO_001:
    InfoProvider: 0COOM_C02
Thereafter I have put the authorization object S_RS_AUTH into a role (standard authorization object) with CO_001 as value in BIAUTH.
Is there still a need to maintain authorization objects for Business Explorer or Business Planning, like:
S_RS_COMP (limiting to the InfoProvider mentioned in the analysis authorization)
S_RS_PLSE (limiting to a special aggregation level of the appropriate InfoProvider mentioned in the analysis authorization)
What happens when there is no limitations maintained in the role for these auth objects, "*"?
Which concepts dominates the other one?
    Thanks
    BEO

    Hi BEOplanet,
S_RS_COMP will give you access to the Infoprovidor in BEx so this will be access level security.
Then Analysis authorization will give you the data level security within the infoprovidor (like what data you can see within the infoprovidor)
There fore you need to maintain both S_RS_COMP and Analysis Authorizations.
To your question ,if you have maintained the cube 0COOM_C02 in Analysis Authorization and S_RS_COMP has only 0PA_01 then the Query will fail since you dont have access to the cube 0COOM_C02 in S_RS_COMP.

    Karthik.

  • Rational approach for Analysis Authorization:

This post is regarding the implementation of Analysis Authorization.  Considering the role based approach; please let me know the optimized way to implement the analysis authorization such that there will be very low maintenance.
For e.g. I have queries which need to be restricted at data level PLANT wise. So I mark the characteristic 0PLANT as authorization relevant. There are 150 plants so I create the 150 Analysis Authorizations and put each one of them in roles (1:1) resulting in 150 roles. In addition; 151th Role and Analysis Authorization for ALL plant access.
Now to restrict the queries themselves, I create a Role with object S_RS_COMP , S_RS_COMP1 (For queries) ; S_USER_AGR  and S_USER_TCD( for  workbooks).
Then I create a composite role  with above 2 single roles (one containing AA and other role for Query restriction)and assign it to user.
Now suppose when I need to restrict data at some other level say DIVISION wise. Then I would be again creating analysis authorization for all the divisions and putting them in roles.
Using this approach ; there would be many roles and analysis authorizations. Also during production support it may be cumbersome to debug the errors.
Please comment if any other approach for implementing the above scenarios.

    Hi,
I had a similar requirement where in we had 178 plants and each plant manager has to see their own site by default in the selection screen when they run the query.
By defalut it should display there own site but its not restricted to only that site. Managers can also look into other sites but by default they wanted their own site to be displayed.
So I have created DSO and did mapping with username and store. And in query I created a variable in plant of type customerexit and written exit in CMOd using I_STEP 1. This solved our requirement. But to restrict to particular site i guess we can extend the routine in cmod.

  • Aggregation authorization within analysis authorizations

    Hello,
The BW developers have created several queries that use aggregated data. When testing the queries with the end user ID (assigned to an end user role and analysis authorization), it is failing due to missing authorizations, particularly b/c of the following:

In the BI documentation, it specifies that : (colon): allows only aggregated access to data (e.g. allows information on all sales areas only on aggregated level –not on particular countries). Is this ( specified as a value within the particular characteristics? I also tried to select the "aggregation authorization" icon within txn code RSECADMIN and this did not help.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Updated: For the analysis authorization, for these characteristics, in addition to the specific values, there is an entry for ":" and this did not resolve the issue.

  • Can I create one single  crystal report using 2 bex queries

    HI all,
I have 2 bex queries and has to develope a single crystal report .Is it possible???? If so, than how to connect two bex queries  and develope  one single crystal report.Any other option is also fine. I mean ....no need to use crystal..( I can go for one single webi..).But need to know the approach ...
or else...can I create universe on 1 bex and other universe on other bex ..and go for one single webi report..
Only problem is client is particular about one single report(either crystal or webi)
if i go for webi ...I know we can use link universe option but I dont know whether it works fro OLAP environment.
Please let me know if I can link OLAp universes and go for 1 single webi report.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mahathi

You can use either CR or WebI.
In CR Designer create the report using the SAP toolbar (Create report from query) based on the 1st BEx query. Then use the Database expert (first entry in the Database menu) to add an additional connection to your 2nd BEx query (+Create new connection->SAP BW DX query). You can then join the results of the 2 different queries in the database expert also.. Please note that if you do NOT want to join the result sets, then it is more efficient to use subreports. Create two different CR reports, each based on one of the BEx queries and then use one of those as your main report and insert the other one into it as subreport. Once embedded you do not have to keep the separate .rpt file of your second report.
For Webi you must build 2 universes, each based on one of your BEx queries. In your report you can add multiple queries based on different universes. You can join the results sets here by using the Merge dimensions button in the report editor area.
    Regards,
    Stratos
PS; Keep in mind that joining a large number of rows at report level (either in CR or WebI) can cause performance problems. If this is your requirement, how many rows do you expect to get back from each individual query?

  • BW Bex query and Webi question

    Hi All.
Just a quick question on Bex queries. We are selecting a Bex query as a source for universe. However on the webi side we only want to see a subset of the data.
    1) The question is Would this rerun the entire BEX query on the BW side ? Or is there a better way to design the universe ?
    2) Also are there any best practices on how to desing Webi reports from BW BEX queries and also Infocubes etc ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi puneet,
The WebI builds a query on the BEx results. The query is related only to those items used in the WebI report. However, the BEx query must have the results in it, as the WebI does not execute it. I am not aware of a best practices document.
    Regards

  • How do i access multiple bex queries in one crystal reports??

    Hello Experts,
I have 10 cubes and 30 bex queries on it and i need to create 3 final crystal reports on these 30 queries.
I am on BI 4.0 & CR 2011. but my client is not on correct SAP patch ie., he is on 15+ but he must be on 23+ to access multiple bex queries on CR 2011 Database expert. (I am unable to see bex queries in Database expert to link couple of bex queries)
And my client env doesnt have SAP EP for SAP BW Netweaver Connection to create a connection to access cubes or queries in IDT.
Do my client env need EP? so that SAP BICS Connection will work in IDT?
How do i approach to achive this...
    Thank you...

    Hi,
have you checked the option "allow external access" in your query? SAP Toolbar will find all queries but the database export needs this flag to be set.
Using multiple queries within one crystal report is using the "multi database join feature" of crystal reports. You can link your queries by key fields and crystal will join them in memory. So when there are many queries or many datarows this can be a huge performance killer.
Actuallly one of our customers is running a report which has more than 20 BEx queries linked together. It runs just fine.
Please be sure to set your joins correctly. E.g. crystal will try to make a join on the "key figures" sturcture if you let it create a suggestion or it will try to link on all fields of an infoobject. This will bring MDX errors.
So you should be setting your joins correctly - the [infoobject]-[20infoobject] fields are fine for that.
I hope you can use some of my words.
    Regards
    Thorsten

  • Crystal Report with multiple BEX queries

I have a Crystal Report that uses 6 different BEX queries.  The report needs to display the results from each query, there is no need to join these queries.  The Crystal Report is using subreports and displaying the data one BEX query after another.
The issue I have is that these BEX queries all have the same mandatory variable.  This is causing Crystal to prompt the user to enter the same variable filter once per BEX query.
If we change the BEX queries so only the first BEX query has a variable and use Crystal to filter the other 5, the performance is unacceptable.  My guess is the other 5 queries are experiencing client side filtering instead of the filter being passed down to BW.
Is there a way to have multiple BW queries with the same variable and have Crystal only prompt the user to enter input one time?
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
My understanding of the issue is :
--You have 6 Bex queries and are displying on after the other becaused you have inserted all these queries as sub report.
--All your Bex queries are having same parameter / prompt / variable which will take user input and filter the data.
--Now the report is prompting the user to enter prompt / variable 6 times.  You are looking for an option to proimpt only ones insted of 6 tiems.
If I understood correctly follow the method to link sub reports to grab the parameter value form main report parameter :
Right click on sub report go in Change Subreport Links, select main reort prompt / varieable and then select sub report prompt / parameter / variable.
Do the same for all your sub reports.  This will eliminate asking / prompting the same parameter value several times.
    Thanks,
    Sastry

  • Creating a universe on Multiple Cubes or Bex Queries

    Dear SDNers,
Can we create a single universe on Multiple cubes or DSOs or BEx Queries and how do we do this?
Can you plese tell me step by step.
    Thanks,
    Swathi.

    Hi swathi,
yes, we can create multicubes from single universe from webi rich client/deski, create a single report  from BEx Query it makes as single micro cube.
and Next Edit Query--> Add Query--> select same universe.  This Query makes as another Micro cube.   so you can design a report from those Microcubes. if you add additional object to query panal the microcube updated from data base.

  • Copy queries and reports from production to qa

    Hi,
One of our customers has up to now created their BEx queries and reports directly in production
But from now on they are going to create them in dev and then transport to qa and prod.
Is there any way to transport the already existing queries/reports from prod to qa?
    BR,
    Linda

    Hello,
You have to set up the transport ( Your BASIS can prepare transport landscape )  to bring the query transported from Prod to test environment
But you can copy Workbooks from Production to develpment.Open the workbook from Production ,disconnect from server, then save as new workbook or existing workbook..now log into Dev system and save workbook under required role.
