BW Sizing with multiple app. instances on Oracle 10g

Hello folks,
I have a few confusions to clarify as i am engaged in BW sizing exercise. Customer has a huge environment with multitera bytes of data and its expected to grow in size and also # of users too and they have multiple BW app instances (NW 7.0) running on Oracle 10g. Its a RESIZING exercise for post go-live in Production solutions and also maybe Delta Sizing for new expected growth.
I went thru all the docs on SMPsizing but wanted to clarify some stuff from folks who have worked on this kind of environment. I did not find per say  "BW Sizing" document for NW 7.0, all i found was something about BW 3.0 (http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/10e7e662-dc1c-2a10-d78c-a187d1a25f80) and also another document ASAP for BW sizing ver 3.1 / 2004. h hints to calculate Disk space, memory and Cpu. Will these assumptions or parameters .
Questions:
Do the parameters and assumptions in the above lets say about # of bytes to SAPs would be applicable to the environment i am working on i-e NW7.0?
For Space sizing to calculate size of InfoCube there is something called 2X disk space requirement of the largest fact table or at least 10GB (PSAPTEMP)....DO I have to add that to every cube for which i am calculating space size?
In CPU Data Staging part there are assumptions based on BW Benchmark like rec/hour/job= 750000, SAPS/batchjob= 350saps and then Maintenace Window = customer input...is this customer input is the window in HOURS when data load happens?
Also for same CPU Sizing Data staging #jobs={sum(delta upload)/maintenance window} / 75000....what is this  delta upload consists of?
SAPS that come out from CPU query and from CPU staging , do i sum them up together and then find out Partner BenchMark# or deal with them seperately?
I only see SAPS BenchMark available for hardware partners to compare for ONLY 2-tier systems although environemnt i am working on is 3-tier, would it be still valid?
You help will be appreciated, anyone.
thanks.
Manish

Hi, Venkat, I hope you posted the same question in other Data Warehousing also.
BW sizing
We have a tool called Quick Sizer in service.sap.com and if you provide the information to that tool it will give the BW Hardware sizing, you add 20% buffer to the final figure.
You need to give the following information...
1. No. of users i.e 3 kinds of users.
2. No. of Records Per day with Line Items.
3. Loading Frequency.
4. No. of InfoCubes/DSO's, Master Data Objects.
5. Future enhancemts like that.
It is better you ask Basis people about Quick Sizer and ask the above points to your Business and Functional People.
Thanks

  • Problem with two OC4J instances in Oracle 10g AS

    hi all,
i am using windows XP(OS), Oracle 10g Application Server.
when i create two instances of OC4j other than home instance, say instance1 and instance2 and deploy two different applications in two instances then i get "page not found" error.
both the applications gets deployed successfully and different ports get selected for both applications internally.
the thing is when i stop one of the above instance, say instance1 the instance2 works fine and doesnt throw an error. the moment i start instance 1 both the instance gives the above stated error.
    Can anyone help??
    thanks in advance!!

(I am not aware exactly and have the impression that, as the second page is a child, I guess it would take the same session).I'm not sure what "sub-page" or "parent page" means to you. If you're just linking from one page to another, "parent" and "child" don't really make sense since page A links to page B and B links to A quite frequently.
Assuming that you have to log in to access the site, it is likely that the two pages share the same middle tier application session. It is unlikely that the middle tier would hold the database session from the first request open waiting to see if the user eventually requested the second page. It is theoretically possible that you could code your middle tier this way but it is extremely unlikely that you would want to do so for a variety of reasons. So, when you say "would [the] session ... be changed", it is likely that the application session would be the same for both calls but that the database session would be different.

  • LDAP connections with multiple proxy instances

After configuring LDAP connectivity through the Admin application on a machine with multiple proxy instances I end up with:
number of proxy instances x LDAPConnPool times number of connections to the LDAP server.
Question: Is it possible to prevent some of the proxy instances from opening LDAP connections?

    Hi
Increase the IDLE timeout value on the LDAP server. Of course, this just extends the inevitable. Check if there is a way to disable IDLE timeout on LDAP server.

  • SP2013: Scaling search with multiple app server

    Hi Team,
I am scaling a new SP environment with multiple App Server.
I have used AutoSPINstaller to install SP2013 and Search. My search components are spread across all servers. All Search components on all servers and I have a blank publishing site as part of my content source.
My issue is when i start full/Incremental crawl. It keeps on crawling for the whole day and do not produce any crawl error neither it stops. We waited for even 2 das but the crawl kept on going on.
Any help will be really appreciated.
    Thanks Ba$va

    Hi Basva ,
Follow these steps (one at the time) to reset the Content Source crawl:
    Start -> Run -> Services.msc -> Restart the “SharePoint Server Search 15”.
Make sure  the Application Server Administration Service Timer Job working .
Navigate to Central Administration-> Manage service application->
    Search Service Application,
Reset Index and see if that fixes the problems.
Go into the Services.msc  on each server and change the "RECOVERY" method of the “SharePoint Server Search 15” from "FIRST FAILURE"  to "TAKE NO ACTION" so that the service did not restart before
all the servers had their "SharePoint Server Search 14" stopped.

  • BSPs configuration with multiple apps servers

    Hi Masters,
This is regrarding configure ICM and BSPs on our production box with multiple application servers.
We have our production box in a cluster environment.
The central instance is dbciSAP and apps servers are sapaps2 thru sapaps6. The database is on shared disks. Whenever the central instance fails sapaps2 takes the control and become as dbciSAP but the main dbciSAP never become a application server when ever sapaps2 acts as dbciSAP. Since we have configured load balancing concept in production environment the users can login to system thru any application server. This is waht our environment.
As part of our production box to SAP 4.7 upgrade from 4.6C, we are asked to configure the environment to deploy BSPs. We have successfully configured and deployed the BSPs in our DEV and QAS system  (Both are central instances with no application servers) except production box which is due in the next month.
The process we follow to activate BSPs is as follows:
1.Define an ICM service port in /etc/services file.
2.Add the ICM related parameters in instance profiles.
3.Make sure the ICM status is active in SMICM tx.
4.Activate the BSP services in SICF as per OSS note 571484.
Now, the question is how to configure the same ICM service and activate the BSPs since we have multiple multiple application servers.
Subsequently What I am enquirying is:
Do I need to define ICM service ports on each and every hosts where the application servers are running?
Do I need to make changes to each and every instance profile of the application server?
What are the differences in configuring ICM services on central instance and application instances?
Appreciate any help in this regard.
    Thanks and Regards
    Murty Patchipala

    Grasshopper,
I think what you should really read up on is the SAP WebDispatcher.  If are serious about running BSP/ICM across multiple app servers, this is the key technology:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/42/5cfd3b0e59774ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm  This may also answer some of your questions about profile parameters.
Other than that I can share what we did.  We did activate the ICM and services on all app servers and central instance.  The service ports of the individual servers aren't that important now because of the WebDispatcher (at least they aren't visible to the user).
Yes we did make some of the ICM profile changes in each instance profile.  If your settings are the same, consider using the default profile.   Are their particular settings you are interested?  I will look over ours, but I don't remember any huge differences from APP server to Central Instance.

  • Single SOA Suite Install with multiple oc4j instances and java processes

We right now have 5 BPEL processes and 5 ESB processes all running under one java.exe process. We would like to seperate some of
them out into their own java.exe processes without having to install more
%ORACLE_HOME% instances of SOA Suite. I can create an oc4j instance but of
course it doesn't have any SOA Suite stuff deployed to it. I tried to see what
the install would do with this new oc4j instance but it wants to create a new
%ORACLE_HOME% with an entire installation of SOA Suite.
Is there some sort of way to clone oc4j instances that have SOA Suite deployed to them so that you
    don't need multiple %ORACLE_HOME% instances?
    ### How is this Issue Impacting Your Business ###
We really don't want to have a lot of %ORACLE_HOME% instances to have to maintain. We are
migrating projects over from our current integration server product and we'll
have potentially dozens more BPEL and ESB projects. We definitely want to
group and isolate projects so that outages of one project do not bring down
    others that are unrelated.
We are currently experiencing periodic problems with one BPEL project that requires recycling but all the other BPEL and ESB
projects get recycled also. If we could put this project into it's own java
process without creating another SOA SUITE instance, it would be a big
    help.
    ANSWER
    =======
You can create multiple domains in BPEL or create multiple systems/groups in ESB to group different projects.
    MY REPLY:
    =========
We have been using systems/groups in ESB but they all run under the save java.exe process. I would assume that having a seperate domain in BPEL would also run in that same java.exe process.
Right now, the one BPEL project we have a problem with will gobble up all the JDBC connections from time to time and that requires a recycle of SOA Suite, which means all BPEL and ESB projects that run in that java.exe process get recycled also. We're working that issue in a different ticket.
It would be nice if the SOA Suite installation would install against a new oc4j instance and not assume it has to create a complete %ORACLE_HOME% instance. The components of SOA Suite seem to be J2EE based components.
Scenario: I already have an oc4j instance called oc4j_soa and a complete %ORACLE_HOME% installation of soa suite. I then create a new oc4j instance from Enterprise Manager. Then I would deploy the esb-dt, esb-rt, orabpel, etc. components of SOA Suite to that new oc4j instance and modify the necessary config file so that it can work with OHS and the SOA Suite Databases. Is this possible?
Does anyone have any experience with this or do people typically install multiple complete installation of SOA Suite with mulitple Oracle Homes?

    Hi,
yes, on metalink you get in touch with real experts....
You have to install serveral application servers to get different ORACLE_HOMEs.
For each one, you can install a BPEL PM.
But: For each BPEL PM you need your own database instance, or you have to configure them as a clustered BPEL installation.... (but i do not know if this work with non RAC DBs)

  • Multiple apps (instances) same server?

    Hi all,
Are there any known issues with having multiple apps share the same weblogic.jar file?
I have a Tomcat server that has the same app installed twice; Productive and Test.
When both are started, they seem to be unable to read from their queues. The following exception was thrown:
[Security:090398]Invalid Subject: principals=[jndi, Deployers, Monitors, Operators]
When we only started one instance (either Productive or Test) the single instance worked perfectly.
Now, we have installed both instances on seperate servers and have started both and they also appear to be working perfectly - however, it would be more ideal for us if we could get them working in harmony on the same server.
Is it not possible to share the weblogic.jar file?
              Cheers,

    barnes,
              Thanks your response.
The application (both) do create their own threads (daemons), but I can not see how they could be intertwined.
I've ran tests to make sure they do reference their own settings (memory) and all seems to be ok.
What I can't test is the internal workings of Tomcat, maybe somehow something goes awry internally there!?
When I get a chance, I'll run some more tests... If I get something working, I'll post the results here (if I get the time).
              Cheers

    i'm a student
i am developing a database application

but i didn't find any option for doing so in that product
if there is pls tell me where it is?
if not pls tell me how to manually create it?

yaa i'm sure about that .
i want one more instance of database. Can you perhaps explain why? I have a fair share of production and development servers - and not a single one of them needs to run more than one database instance.
So I'm interested in what requirement you are trying to satisfy by using two database instances on a single platform.
Oh yeah - if you want to create a custom XE instance (different SID, different tablespace sizes, more/less PL/SQL stuff installed, hack standard), make a copy of your XE db creation script (in your XE's +$ORACLE_HOME/bin+ and called createdb.sh ) and modify that for your needs.
PS. even with a different SID, only a single XE instance can be run at a time - you can however have 2 different ones defined and then use one at a time (e.g. testing international settings, init param differences, etc.)

  • Using ORADIM to create instance on Oracle 10g R2, windows platform

Please I used the below command to create database instance to startup at the same time as of the OS is starting up.
ORADIM -new -sid ORCL -SRVC OracleServiceORCL -STARTMODE auto -SRVCSTART system -PFILE C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\DB_1\DATABASE\INITORCL.ORA
But When I shutdown the all system at OS level, and restart it, the OracleServiceORCL shows up as Started Automatic in the services tool, but when trying to connect ot the database, the following message appears Connected to an Idle instance So I have to startup manually the database.
It's any thing wrong with my ORADIM command?
    Thanks for your cooperation

    Thanks,
Maybe I didn't explain exactly what I was expecting with the standby database, these steps are what I did, to resolve the issue
ENABLE THE STANDBY DATABASE TO STARTUP FROM SPFILE
Step 1: create a newly spfile from the current pfile
    SQL> CREATE SPFILE='C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\DB_1\DATABASE\SPFILEORCL.ORA' FROM PFILE='C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\DB_1\DATABASE\INITORCL.ORA';
    Step 2: Rename the INITORCL.ORA TO SAVE_DATE_INITORCL.ORA
    Example: the C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\DB_1\DATABASE\INITORCL.ORA became
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\DB_1\DATABASE\SAVE_24072007_INITORCL.ORA
Step 3: delete the former sid created
    C:\ORADIM -delete -sid orcl
    Instance deleted.
Step 3: Change the Oracle service to start when the OS start
C:\ ORADIM -new -sid ORCL -SRVC OracleServiceORCL -STARTMODE auto -SRVCSTART system -SPFILE
    Instance created.
Now When I shutdown the whole system and start it up, the standby database startup. the only thing is that the standby database startup a read-only mode, defautl with oracle 10g this is fine for me, because the MRP is stopped but the log shipping is not stopped.
So eventhough the system admin shutdown the database server at OS level without letting me know, tha standby should continue receiving archived log files.
I'll just need to monitore the lop apply process and start it to apply archived log files received
    Thanks

  • Editable views with instead of triggers in Oracle 10G

    Hi,
We are attempting to migrate our database application from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10G. We have found that we are getting the error [ORA-03113 end-of-file on communication channel] when we attempt to insert multiple rows into database tables using editable views equipped with INSTEAD OF triggers. When inserting multiple rows, we are using a single insert statement of the form insert into...select from. Strangely enough, when the select query within the insert statement returns a single row, the insert statement is successful. We also noticed that if we issue a commit right before executing the insert statement, the insert statement is successful regardless of the number of rows being inserted. But this is not a viable workaround as the current transaction contents needs to be maintained. We did not have these issues in Oracle 9i. Does Oracle 10G have any known issues with editable views equipped with INSTEAD OF triggers? Are there any settings in the INIT.ORA file that can resolve these issues? Thanks for your help.

Confirmed. If you use 2D input, or change the Z dimensions so they are different, you will get the results you expect in 10g. Otherwise - a line.
I'm not sure why, and can't see a bug report on that in support, but obviously it was recognized and fixed as you indicate.
Try it with 2D input, and it will work:
    select sdo_aggr_mbr(
    SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, NULL, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 3),
    SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(-10, -10, 10, 10))
    from dual;
    Or with different Z values:
    select sdo_aggr_mbr(
    SDO_GEOMETRY(3003, NULL, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 3),
    SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(-10, -10, 1, 10, 10, 11))
    from dual

I'm not sure does I understand your requirement good?
    But if so:
You have 2 computers and from both you want to access one single Oracle database.
If this correct then you need only on one machine to install XE Server and on another machine ONLY XE Client.
After that you need to copy tnsnames.ora file from computer where XE server resides to according directory where XE client resides.

    Hi All,

Have a webpage in front-end where in turn, it opens another page (session is carried through) and a few rows will be inserted to this table from the webpage (through a function) on submit and the current page will be closed.
From the parent page, if I open the sub-page data inserted in the temporary table are held and displayed (another function to fetch the values in the Global Temp table).
The Problem in Oracle 10g (Production) is, this is not happening properly. When I close and open the sub-page, not every time I get the data stored i.e if I close and open the page 10 times, atelast 4 times the data is missed in the page (I am not getting values from temp table) randomly.
But this does not happen in UAT (which has Oracle 11g installed) as I get the data in the webpage consistently. After passing UAT, when we rolled out to Prod, getting this issue which we are unable to get what could be the reason.
It is very hard to debug using GTT dynamically in prod. It takes time to get Oracle 11g installed in Prod.
    Can anyone suggest?

Is it possible to have 2 forms services in the same Oracle 10g AS (like creating our own reports server in the same Instance).

but i still have one issue. The issue is
I am unable to have 2 icons path (for the 2 applications)the icons path is taking from the dafault path of /forms/icons(in forms.conf file) for both the application even though i make entry for second application as /formstest/icons in forms.conf file(formstest is my new forms server for second application).
