BW-statistics: looking for 0TCTQUERY in 2004s??
Hello there,
I want to make a query where I want to see the queries and their statistics(like the last user, the frequency, the queries that didn't being used the last three months etc.) But when ik look in the old 0BWCT multiprovider, I can see the key figure 0TCTQUERY, but when I look in all the 0TCT cubes en multiprovider, I can't find it. Doe somebody know how I can get the name and information about the queries???

0TCTQUCOUNT is not the query counter. I tried this and it didn't work because this key figure is actually the counter for navigation steps.
I am in the process of developing a query using 0TCT_MC01, but the real query counter infooject which is 0TCTWTCOUNT is not being populated somehow, even though I turned on the statistics collection for the workbooks and web templates.
If I am successful, I will share the results with the community.

Hi Florent,
Since these are MQ messages, it might be possible to find
such statistics in MQ. Also, I think that MQ stores a
redelivery count in their messages - so you can likely
instrument your application code to get at the count.
Note that 7.0 actually does support exactly once with WL MDBs driven
by MQ. If you use transactions you can infer some stats on redeliveries
by checking the relevant transaction statistics for rollback counts.

convenience.

JMS Integration of Foreign Vendors with BEA WebLogic Server
The following notes are derived mostly from "http://dev2dev.bea.com/technologies/jms/index.jsp".
For additional questions, a good forum for WebLogic questions in general is "newsgroups.bea.com". These can be mined for information by using Google's newsgroup search function.
JMS Integration Overview
- For integration with "non-Java" and/or "non-JMS" platforms, see "Non-Java Integration Options" below.
- For a foreign JMS vendor to participate in a WL transaction it must support XA. Specifically, it must support the javax.jms.XA* interfaces.
- In WL versions 6.0 and up it is possible to make synchronous calls to foreign JMS vendors participate in a WL transaction as long as the foreign vendor supports XA.
- WL 6.0 and 6.1 MDBs can be driven by foreign vendors non-transactionally. They can be driven transactionally by a select few foreign vendors (MQ is not part of the select few)
- WL 7.0 and later, MDBs can be driven by foreign vendors transactionally and non-transationally.
- WL 6.1 and later WL provides a messaging bridge feature. Messaging bridges forward messages between any two JMS destinations, including foreign destinations, and can transfer messages transactionally or non-transactionally.

Non-Java Integration Options
- WL JMS has a JNI based C client which is available for Windows and some UNIX platforms. This C client supports 7.0 and up, and will be officially packaged with WLS in 9.0 (virtually unchanged). The C API is currently only supported through the jms newsgroup. See "JMS C API", here:

Unlike most other approaches, the IIOP client approach also allows the client to begin and commit user (JTA) transactions (not configured).
- If you already have a BEA Tuxedo license, one option is communicate through BEA Tuxedo (which has various APIs on Windows) and configure a WebLogic Server to respond to these requests via the WTC bridge. Search for "WTC" in the BEA docs. Unlike most other approaches, the Tuxedo API approach also allows the client to begin and commit user (JTA) transactions.
- Another approach is to interop via web-service standards. Or even to simply to invoke a servlet on the WL server using a basic HTTP call from Windows. These in turn can invoke the JMS API. There is a white-paper on "Interoperability Study of BEA WebLogic Workshop 8.1 and Microsoft .NET 1.1 Web Services", that demonstrates web-services here:

- Yet another approach is to use a third party product that is designed to wrap any JMS vendor. There are even open source versions. In no particular order, here are some examples: Open3 WinJMS, CodeMesh, Active JMS, SpiritSoft
- Finally, there are .NET/C/C++ integration libraries that not specific to JMS, some examples are JNBridge, Jace, and CodeMesh.
Notes on MQ Remote Capable XA Clients
Until recently, IBM MQ JMS clients could not work transactionally unless they were running on the same host as their MQ server. This is a limitation unique to MQ that was relaxed with the introduction of IBM's new "WebSphere MQ Extended Transactional Client". See:

The product is new, and for some reason, configuration of this client seems to be tricky, even when WebLogic is not involved at all. Oddly, the main sticking point seems to be simply making sure that class paths refer to the required IBM jars:
- Required on WLS where MQ objects are bound into JNDI:
com.ibm.mq.jar, com.ibm.mqjms.jar
- Required only if MQ objects are bound into JNDI on a different server:
com.ibm.mq.jar
If there are problems when using this client, first get it to work using a pure IBM client without any BEA classes involved. Once that is working, search the WL JMS newsgroup for answers and/or contact BEA customer support.
Notes on Oracle AQ Integration
If problems are encountered integrating Oracle's built-in queuing (Oracle AQ) JMS client, there is publicly available wrapper code that can aid integrating AQ directly into MDBs, JMS, or the messaging bridge. The solution is titled "Startup class to bind AQ/Referenceable objects to WLS JNDI", is not supported by BEA, and is posted to:

Caveats:
The solution doesn't directly support concurrent consumers. Perhaps Oracle requires that concurrent consumers each have a unique JMS connection? As a work-around, parallel message processing can be achieved indirectly by forwarding AQ messages into a WL JMS destination - which do support concurrent processing.
Up-to-date versions of Oracle may be required. For more information, google search the weblogic.developer.interest.jms newsgroup for "Oracle" and "AQ".
The solution doesn't seem to support transactions, it may be possible to extend it to do so.
MDB Thread Pool Notes
WL7.0SP? and WL8.1 and later support the "dispatch-policy" field to specify which thread pool an MDB uses to run its instances. In most cases this field should be configured to help address potential performance issues and/or dead-locks:

(Note that "dispatch-policy" is ignored for non-transactional foreign vendors; in this case, the MDB "onMessage" callback runs in the foreign vendor's thread.)
MDB Concurrency Notes
Queue MDBs driven by foreign providers can run multiple instances concurrently. Topic MDBs driven by foreign providers are limited to one instance (not sure, but transactional foreign driven topic MDBs may not have this limitation). The size of the thread pool that the MDB runs in and the "max-beans-in-free-pool" descriptor limit how many instances run concurrently.

Looking for a client appointment app
I'm looking for an application for a friend who is a personal trainer. And if such an application doesn't exist, I'm considering writing one (I'm a software engineer)
The application would maintain a database of clients, and a schedule of appointments with them.
For each client, the following data needs to be maintained: contact information, current statistics (weight, body fat percentage, strength) as well as a history of statistics. Clients pay for a package of sessions in advance, and the app would keep track of how many prepaid sessions remain, updating that number with each scheduled appointment and each payment. Every client has recurring appointments, several per week, but rescheduling is common, and needs to be easy. And the app should be able to print out a year report for taxes.
I was thinking that it should interface with Address Book for contact information, and Calendar for appointments.
The main app should run on Snow Leopard, but mobile access through an iOS 4 sister app would be great. (Although if it works with Address Book and Calendar, their synchronization through MobileMe might be sufficient)
Is there any such thing? There must be other trainers, and other professionals with similar needs.

Where to look for the computed stats collected using gather_table_stats
I have used analyze command before but new to gather_table_stats.
I have executed gather_table_stats procedure as given below. Now where to look for the statistics estimated and also what are the important parameters I need to look in the stats ? Any major difference between analyze & gather_table_stats ?

PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.The command "analyze table" is deprecated for gathering optimizer statistics. But it is still the only command to get for instance the chained rows. This command is no longer maintained for new features, so if you use this command to collect statistics, it might not collect all needed numbers for the optimizer so the plan could be wrong.
The package dbms_stats is collecting all the figures that the optimizer needs to genererate an optimal access plan. All new database features are incorporated only here.
The statistics numbers can be found in the normal tables like USER|ALL|DBA_TABLES, ...TAB_COLUMNS, ...INDEXES, ...IND_COLUMNS etc. There you can find for instance number of rows in table, clustering factor for indexes and more numbers like this. They are not really needed for us human beings, they are used by the optimizer to generate the access plan. -
I'm looking for a document management system
Hi there,
I'm looking for a way to organize, sort, and make searchable about 1200 Microsoft Word Documents. The way our company uses them is to search for individual documents, and also to group them to create customized packets that are used for training.
Once a group is created, I need a way to print easily. The other problem is that 60% of the documents are designed for learning so they have an instructors filled in part, and a learners blank part.
Question 1: Should I separate each document, make the instructor version a separate file? Today, it is one file, with page 1 for the instructor and page 2 for the learner (some docs have more than one page.
Question 2: Does anyone know of a web plugin or app that will take a collection of word documents, and automatically combine them into 1?
2 years ago, we created a php searchable system and uploaded all docs into it. It workds pretty well for organizing, searching, grouping, and adding comments about the docs... BUT when it comes time to print, it only downloads a folder filled with all the SEPARATE word files. They are numbered, but because they are not one doc, page numbering is a bear, and each doc has a instructor and learner page... for printing, the trainer needs to tell the office staff which page to print for each handout. the instructor copy or leaner copy. Once a master is made, we photocopy it. So the question: Is there an easier way to create 1 file with all the pages? Like convert to PDF or to a single MS Word document?
Any suggestions are welcome!
PS: while we are an all mac shop, we do have a dedicated webserver running linux that we could use.
PPS: I will have interns this summer, so if the solution involves converting all of our MS word docs into something else like pages, I'm all for it...It sounds to me like DevonThink might just replace the php system that you already have.
One way to tackle this might be to look at automating the combining process, rather than changing the overall management system. Various thoughts:
If the docs were pdfs, a program like CombinePDFs would let you drag and drop all the files onto a screen, re-order them if necessary, and then hit Merge (actually, I think Preview would let you do this, in Leopard). That might help. However, I don't think it would put on page numbers.
I'm pretty sure Acrobat would let you combine the PDFs and add page numbers, or perhaps take the combined pdf file and just add page numbers to that. (Not sure if this might require Acrobat for Windows)
Alternatively, you could tweak the docs themselves so that they use a form of chapter numbering, eg: "PDF Introduction-1, PDF Introduction-2" and "PDF-Advanced-1, PDF-Advanced 2" and then not worry about the page numbers. I wouldn't exactly recommend this, as it's pretty useless to say "turn to page PDF-Intermediate 3" and have people find that page, but it's been done.
Since they are already Word docs, though, it might be best to stick with Word. Word 2008 has Automator and Applescript, and it should be possible to write an Automator or Applescript such you just drop the documents on an Automator app, and it combines them, adds or updates the page numbers, maybe creates a Table of Contents, and spits out an assembled document.
That said, I don't know how to do that. There is a Combine Word Documents automator action, certainly. You could try asking over in the Word forums:

This will work best if all the docs are formatted consistently, based on the same template. If they are not consistently formatted, then the formatting will probably change when you combine them in Word, and that would be an argument for converting them to PDF before combining them. It should also be possible to create an Automator action that will convert all the docs in a folder to PDF.
I doubt there is going to be anyway to automate the instructor/learner copy--someone will have to do that manually, but it does suggest that if you create separate files for each one, it will be easier to do the search, download the found files from the resulting folder, and then manually just delete the learner file from the folder rather than having to open up the instructor file and delete part of it.
So, some potential experiments to try. Hope that helps.

Looking for A Powerful Database App

I know this is not the best place to ask this question but I didn't have the choice. I am looking for a good database software to make databases for a bit everything: books, CDs, players list in video games, etc.
I have been using FileMakerPro for a long time and this program is great but I grew tired of the interface....even if you can do anything with it I don't like it.
So I looked on the web, I tried iList Data but it is not complete enough for me. And I just heard about AppleWorks. Someone said on a forum that it is better than iList Data.
Is AppleWorks what I could be looking for regarding what I want to do with a database? I want something complete but more userfriendly than FMP.

As much as I love AppleWorks and use its DB module, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone as a 'new' purchase for one simple reason.
Apple last updated AppleWorks in 2004, noted they were building the successor to AppleWorks in 2005, and declared AppleWorks EOL with the introduction of Numbers in iWork '08.
EOL doesn't mean that the application no longer works, just that Apple no longer sells, develops or supports it.
For someone familiar with the existing version and used to its quirks and foibles, that's not a major problem. For someone coming to AppleWorks cold, it could be.
FMPro is a relational database application, and capable of far more than AppleWorks (a flat file DB). The appearance of the interfaces is similar, as both were designed at Claris, now FileMaker.
OpenOffice.org and NeoOffice (based on OpenOffice.org) both have database capabilities. You may find their learning curves a bit steeper than FMPro's.
Database Options For The Macintosh offers further information on desktop and server DB applications for Mac.

Looking for an iPod classic original Apple brand carry case.
Does anyone have a classic iPod original Apple brand carry case? I'd love to buy it (them) from you! I use mine to carry my iPod and iPhone on my belt, but mine has been with me for 6-7 years and is wearing out. If you have one of these sitting around in GOOD shape (with belt clip still attached and not damaged) I'd love to take it off your hands!
I don't have the original pouch (I don't even know what that is), but I did find this case I was looking for, and yes it was on eBay, and the guy was selling a bunch of them and I got 4 for like $4.50 each... what a deal. I think the original one I bought back in 2003 or 2004 was $30. So now I have 4 of these at the ready so when they wear out or break (like the previous ones I've had all did) I've got more.

I have trying to run a Active-sync Device Statistics report to get all the details for active Sync users, but report show only last four digit of device phone number for few users and for most of the users its blank.
Is there way if we can get Device Phone number for active sync users.

Im looking for a report showing the costs for a range of sales order line items, exaclty like KOB1 but for sales orders. KVBI does exactly what I want but the material filed is not populated.

Looking for an (external) Vendor Supported DVD burner
Hi all,
For years I've been working with pleasure on my 700 MHz eMac, despite of the loud fan noise. The only thing is that not until now I regret the fact I didn't bought the SuperDrive at the time, for budget reasons.
Looking for an external solution, I encountered the LaCie FireWire DVD burners, but those machines don't seem to be cooperative as it comes to iMovie and iDVD. Apparently Apple don't consider them equal to 'their' SuperDrives
What brand and type (or part number) should I be looking for to have the external drive be recognised as a Vendor Supported device?
Please, somebody help me here. Otherwise I will have to ask a new Mac with those specs for Christmas and that means waiting another year....
OlafPatchburn is a free software download that allows you to use Apple's iApps application such as itunes for burning of non native drives. Your OS will most likely be ok with the new drive for playing movies & audio cd's but have you tried burning with your drive? If you have iDVD this will most certainly not be supported by your drive due to special firmware within Apple superdrives that technically you cannot get around. Though if you have the version of iDVD with iLife 05/06 it places a disk image on your desktop so that with application such as Roxio Toast you can burn freely with.

I need to start by learning how to create some more deep,
striking images,
perhaps in the web graphic area or basic design. I am

Macromedia suite of products, MX 2004. I have never used
Photoshop, just
Fireworks, but seems that most good designers use Photoshop -
should I get
that and train on that, or will Fireworks do, if so should I
upgrade to 8 on
everthing? And so I am looking for some assistance in the
training area,
even perhaps getting certified in DW? Thanks for any help!

Current Employment statistics report for Department of Labor
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has a Current Employment Statistics (CES) requirement that they are looking for companies to start to providing to them monthly.

Task Privileges for Existing Users - Looking for a global update solution
After some reading I understand that if you set the task privileges for the PUBLIC user in the Privileges section of Discoverer Administrator (10g), any new user created in the system will pick up the privileges you have assigned to the PUBLIC user.
I currently have 4000+ users who have access to Discoverer Plus and the ability to create/edit queries. I want to limit who can access Discoverer Plus functionality to approximately 150 users.
I have changed my PUBLIC user to NOT have privileges but this will only affect new users. Is there any way to restrict 4000+ users without having to go through each user individually and set the privileges.
I am looking for a global update solution. I am wondering if this can be done through the back-end.Hi Mezzobella
If you change the rights for the public user then other users, who have not been manually adjusted in any way, will automatically pick up the public rights. Therefore, if you have a lot of users that are not changing this means that at some point in their life you will have clicked OK or Apply on the screen with a user displayed. This now assigns the rights to that user as opposed to inheriting them from the public user.
What you are describing is the perfect reason why you should not administer Discoverer using user accounts but to use roles or responsibilities instead.
In your case you are now somewhat stuck. The programatic way to revoke these rights is to drop rows from the EUL5_ACCESS_PRIVS table but this could take longer than doing inside Discoverer. Basically, when a user has been granted privileges one row per privilege is inserted into this table. The column AP_EU_ID contains the ID of the user. The column GP_APP_ID is the one that tells you what privilege a user has. Here is a list of the privileges:
1000 Desktop / Plus Privilege (U)
1001 Create / Edit Query (U)
1002 Item Drill (U)
1003 Drill Out (U)
1004 Grant Workbook (aka Sharing) (U)
1005 Collect Query Statistics (U)
1006 Admin Privilege (A)
1007 Set Privilege (A)
1008 Create / Edit Business Area (A)
1009 Format Business Area (A)
1010 Create / Edit Summaries (A)
1011 Not used as far as can be determined
1012 Schedule (U)
1013 User is never required to schedule workbooks (U)
1014 Save workbooks to database (U)
1015 Managed scheduled workbooks (A)
1016 This is an apps mode EUL
1017 This is the user's assigned language
1018 User is allowed to change password
1019 to 1023 Not used as far as can be determined
1024 Create Link (U)
Note: A = Admin privilege, U = User privilege
Theoretically you could manually delete rows from this table and that will revoke the rights. In reality, Oracle do not like it when inexperienced users manually the EUL as you could corrupt it. Therefore, any manual updates must be done with utmost caution after making sure you back up or have a copy of the table you will be updating - just in case.
