C++ and Objective-C and input/output dialogs

i am writing C++ Tools that will be run from the command line in Unix. If I want to ad dialogs for selecting files to open for input and/or output
Is there an easy way to do this? If not, do I have to do the dialogs in Objective-C? Can C++ be used inside a Cocoa application, for example, to have a Objective-C main the calls C++ functions for all but the dialogs?
The bottom line is that I want to be programming primarily in C++, but would like to have a bit more functionality with file selection.

David-
You can do this on one of two ways. The first is to complete your C++ tool as a command line program then call it from a Cocoa application, using NSTask. A more conceptual discussion is here. Look at the sample code for Moriarty on the ADC site for an example of how to do it. Also, there's some information at CocoaDev on the topic.
You can also mix C++ and Objective-C in the same project. Apple has some information in the Objective-C reference at the ADC site. This page at CocoaDev also has some information on C++ and Cocoa.

  • Leopard Disk Utility and Input/Output error messages.

This post is describing a problem I had and how I managed to fix it. When I was researching the Input/Output error message I was getting a couple of people had mentioned this fix on the apple discussion boards, so I thought I would add my fix to support them. (Isn't google fab!) I've no idea if this is the right place for this so please bear with me.
Okay a bit of background:- over christmas we treated ourselves to leopard and as my laptop is now three years old I decided to do a complete reformat and installation. I used my 60GB iPod as an external harddrive and backed everything up. Installed Leopard no probs and was a very happy bunny.
The problem:- I then wanted to remove everything off my iPod. So I thought "I know I'll use Disk Utility".... I tried it with the 'default' setting and got an Input/Output error message straight away (irrespective of whether I did it as an extended journal or not.) When I tried it with the Zero Out option (can't remember exactly what it's called) it came up with the Input/Output error message right at the very end. Argh! iTunes and Finder no longer recognised it, but Disk Utility did.
My research:- After using google I saw some guys on here talking about formatting proper external harddrives using leopards disk utility and they were getting the same messages as me. It turns out it is a fault with Leopards Disk Utility. So I did what the guys recommended.
The solution:- (Thank god I had tiger!) I put in my tiger installation disk, clicked 'install tiger' and restarted the laptop. I clicked my my language, but then rather than going through the actual installation process I went to the top menu bars and chose Disk Utility (using tiger's disk one rather than my laptop's leopard one.) And erased the iPod there. Now when I quit the installation and opened my laptop up properly it worked, both iTunes and finder could see it!!! (I just had to restore my ipod in itunes - and now I'm happily transferring all my music back!)
I hope this helps someone in the same position as me!

I took it to work to use my Windows PC to try and format the drive, but got the same problem. I figured either the drive (it's a 2.5" that used to be inside my AlBook) or the external housing it lives is was faulty. Only way I could test without spending more money is by putting the 2.5" drive inside my powerbook, and booting the (Ti) powerbook from a bootable firewire ipod. I successfully booted from the ipod, and had the same problem with the now internal drive: only visible in disk utility, any attempt to erase fails. Also, I plugged the small 10 GB drive that WAS in the TiBook (but which I removed to put the other, problematic drive in) into the external housing, and it connected to other machines just fine.
Turns out the problem is the hard drive itself.
So now my question becomes: If disk utility can see the hard disk when it is connected (I have it back in the external enclosure now), but gives "input/output error" messages when I try to erase/format it, is there any way I can salvage this drive? It's an 80 GB drive, and I was looking forward to making it my internal TiBook drive (replacing the old 10 GB drive that's in there now).

  • Input/Output And Method Not Found Problem

Ok so firstly I think I should apologise on two fronts.
Firstly, 'cause this is probably posted in the wrong board but I'm not sure this was suitable for the Swing board just 'cause I've been using Swing? And secondly 'cause the code I'm gonna post is so shoddy I would think this constitutes as flaim-bait. >_>
In my defense this is purely for a little class project to give something to write some documentation on so I'm really not too bothered about the efficiency or ace-mazingness of the end result. I just want it to work.
    To the problem at hand.
I'm trying to write a program that asks the user a question and then outputs their answer to a file, from which a tally of answers can later be made for the purpose of displaying "results".
My problem is I've been having problems with the input/output of saving the answers given to the program.
I'm still learning and input/output is probably my weakest subject (other than, y'know, being good at Java). I've had a bash at it in the following code but all it does it overwrite what is in the file with a single answer so no list of results accumulate. I generally don't have an idea what to try for that one so any pointers would be appreciated.
Also, my second problem is, in trying to gather results by tallying what is contained in the file, I've run across a problem with the charAt() method not being found and I'm not sure why. Isn't that method a part of java.lang?
    Here's the code thus far:

Oh, and in trying to work with it a bit further I realised I'm having a few problems with runtime errors due to exceptions. The first was due to the array being assigned out of bounds (fixed in the above code). But the second reads the following:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
         at Loadingsaving.load(CaseStudy.java:330)
         at QuizResults.(init)(CaseStudy.java.259)
         at GUI.(init)(CaseStudy.java:34)
at CaseStudy.main(CaseStudy.java:15)Not quite sure what this one means or how to handle it. =\

A NullPointerException means a method has been called on a null object, or a variable that isn't pointing to any object. Your Exception points to line 330, which is:
length = s.length();A NPE on that line means that s is null. So let's look at where s is set:
    if (br.readLine() == null) return answerarray;
else s = br.readLine();s gets it's value from br.readLine(), so that method must be returning null. You have a logical error here. Look at your If-Else. It reads a line, makes sure it isn't null...then it reads another line. Well what if that line is null? You are performing 2 reads here instead of 1.
Since your If condition returns a value, there's no need for an Else. The code will continue on until it reaches another return. Try this:
    s = br.readLine();
    if (s == null) return answerarray;

  • Macbook 2.1 and Western Digital BPVT input/output errors

Hi.    After a hard drive failure in my macbook I tried upgrading to a 320GB Western digital BPVT hard disk. Unfortunately the macbook can't seem to read the disk properly when plugged in internally and it shows the capacity as 2.3TB and gives an input/output error when I try to erase the disk (it does show correctly the Description WDC WD3200BPVT).
The hard disk itself works.  If I plug it into the sata caddy my windows 7 PC can see it, format, write and delete to it. AND if I plug the same caddy into the macbook as an external disk it can read it and write to it etc.  The only difference I can think of is the caddy doesn't support S.M.A.R.T and as soon as the disk is put in internally I get the 2.3TB capacity and input/output errors.  That said I put the hard disk in a HP laptop and it recognised the hard disk internally and installed the OS ok.
I tested the macbook with a scorpio blue BEVT 500GB and that works perfectly.  So I know it's not the controller or capcity issue. Is it the BPVT?  People on the discussion say this drives works fine, I'm just not sure if I'm missing something.  I was fixing this computer for a friend and not 100% when it comes to Macs.
Has anyone seen this issue before?   Is there anything I can do to get the hard drive to work in the mac..
    Hardware used:
    Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD3200BPVT Hard Disk Drive,320GB, 5400rpm, 8MB Cache, SATA 3 Gb/s
    MacBook 13" circa mid 2007 (model 2.1)

Hi, unfortunately not, I never found a fix.  I had to swap the disk for a BEVT.
The BPVT worked in a 2009 MacBook.  It appears to be the older 2007 MacBook can't read a BPVT, I tried a lot and couldn't get it to work.

  • Email End-Point Input/Output missing

I'm trying to configure an email endpoint but I am unable to configure the input/output parameters.  I found the below thread which sounds exactly like my problmem except the solution does not work.  If I go to AdminUI, I do not see how to change it from variable to literal.  Any other ideas?
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2629358#2629358
    btw, I'm using LC 9.0 SP2.

    Hi
The issue referred to in your link was actually resolved in SP1 for 9.0.
Since you are using SP2, you should not be required to change anything in adminui.
Did you mark your variable as "input"?
If you do this, then you should see and Inputs/Outputs tab on the email startpoint.
If you then add %SUBJECT% in your Input data filter, this should not require you to do anything else.
Once deployed, if you then look in the adminui, this input should appear as Variable not literal.

  • Simultaneously read more than one input and generate output

Is it possible To simultaneously read more than one input and generate outputs depending on these inputs? If this isn't possible what is the best way to go about making some sort of timed loop that will read an input, read the next input, decide whether or not to output and so on. Hope someone can help. Thanks.Message Edited by Esmith13 on 05-25-2005 01:36 PM

    Hi,
You should look at the synchronized examples for analog input and output that can be found in the example finder under:
    Help>>Find Examples>>Hardware Input and Output>>DAQmx>>Synchronization>>Multi-Function
These will get you started to being able to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
I hope this helps. Have a Great Day!

  • Hi, I have a hard disk failure so to recover my data I am using disk utility to restore the data on an external drive while booting from a second external hard drive. When I perform the operation it gives me an input/output error and stops. Any tips?

Hi, I have a hard disk failure so to recover my data I am using disk utility to restore the data on an external drive while booting from a second external hard drive. When I perform the operation and after having selected both my destination and source drives, the operation begins but soon fails due to input/output error. If I try to create an image of the drive it gives me the same error message. Any help would be much appreciated.

Disk Utility only creates a image of the drive, so it's no help getting exactly what you want, which is your files. If the file structure is messed up or the drive is failing then it's no help.
If you have a external boot drive and you can't access the internal non-booting drive though the typical Finder and windows to transfer your files via drag and drop methods, then you need to install Data Rescue on the external boot drive and it will do as best as it can to recover your files. (works on non-encrypted/non-Filevaulted drives only)
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Are you sure you have hard drive failure, or that OS X isn't merely not booting?
Because if the drive is working physically, then there is a host of fixes

If the track you want isn't available in the Australian iTunes Store, then you will have to look for another source from which to purchase the music; another download store, import CDs, etc. Otherwise, contact the artist and/or the applicable record company and urge them to release the music in the Australian iTunes Store.
    Regards.

  • Difference in analog input and analog output values

i am using 6014 DAQ card for providing motor speed reference voltage to Driver and reading back speed
feedback voltage using LabVIEW 6.0. For this i have used AO Single Update and AI Single scan. Both are in the same while
loop. The loop has a Wait timer of 50ms. When i take a plot of Analog o/p and input, i get a shift
between input and output. Why is the shift or the time not synchrnised..please help..When the while loop wait timer is 200ms instead of 50ms, the shift is not there.

I believe the problem is 2 fold. First if you are using traditional DAQ, or DAQ 6.9.3 or before, the driver is single threaded. Therefore the 2 VIs will not run simultaneous. Try DAQmx and you may be more successful.
The other is that you are using higher level 1 point VIs. In general they are not the best to use in a time sensitive loop. You are better off using hardware timing, rather than software timing. With hardware timing you have more control over the synchronization of the 2.

  • [SOLVED] Input/Output error, read and writing ..

This is my brand new Seagate 500GB disk making troubles, it is formatted with NTFS for easier accessing trough Windows because it is sometimes plugged into an external case.
    [dezza@dezza ~]$ sudo rm -rf store/BADDIR/
rm: cannot remove `store/BADDIR/tonsi-tonsi.r09': Input/output error
I don't hope this means it's broken Cause I filled it to the limit with valuable stuff ..
I tried remounting and rebooting ..

  • Run emigall with a "mig.object" and "input file" as parameters in a job?

    Hi!
I'm looking for a way to run emigall with a "mig.object" and "input file" as parameters in a job. We will use emigall in a data load step of a process. Is this possible? Is emaigall designed for this use?
Thanks for any help and suggestions.
    Best regards.

  • Pb of input/output error between iPod and my PBG4

    Hi
    I have a iPod Nano 2Go and I get all of the problems listed here : wether I try to restore or use the Disk mode, nothing worked ;
all that I could get was a message of error : one saying "1418 error" and other saying "input output error". I tried everything
all I only did was disconnect the ipod when I didn't have to do it.
I have this ipod since last month, and I am really disapointed of that problem
the worst is that Apple doesn't seem to care about it.
Is anyone getting any idea about that...???
    Thanks
    Kriss / F.Guiana

I suggest that take a read the following first, and find a PC connect your iPod with it and follow the instruction

  • Xbox digital audio input and then output through MacBook digital audio port

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before but I'm trying to output a Dolby Digital (I think AC3) signal from my Xbox 360 into the MacBook's digital audio input and then output it through the digital audio output. I can output 5.1 sound from the MacBook itself but I can't get the Xbox audio to pass through. I don't know if the audio is at a sample rate not supported or needs decoding or what!
    Any help would be appreciated!

If that doesn't work, I'm not quite sure.
A combination of the Audio MIDI Utility (in Applications/Utilities), SoundSource, LineIn, and Soundflower (http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/) might work, otherwise I'm stumped. Your best bet is probably a dedicated external USB or FireWire audio interface.

  • 2 inputs and 1 output.

    Hi all,
    This is my first post.
    I use an arduino 1 board to read 2 (x & y) analog signals.
I would like to command 1 pwm output on the bases of the 2 analog signals.
The idea is create a table 3x3 in wich x and y axes are based on the values of the analog signals and the output is the pwm output.
I have tried in several modes but no succes.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    thanks for the reply.
I woul like to realize a simple PWM controller. I made the same writing the SW in C and it was working, but no flexible and without a graphical interface.
    Well...
    inputs:
Two analog signals; range  0-5V f(t).It could vary very fast in the time. I use two simple potentiometers to simulate the voltage variations.
    output:
    PWM: range 0 - 255. connected to a led.
I woul like to have the possibility to change the PWM with a table m X n where m is related to input 1 and n is related to input 2.
I will post the the SW tried by me as soon as possible. Now... dinner!
    thanks all and best regards!
