C200 M1 PSU Fan speed varies

I have a C200 M1 running 1.4(3p), I am noticing some performance issues with this server, it just seems slow.  I went to it physically and you can hear the PSU fans spin up and slow down every few seconds.  Within an SSH to the CIMC I am seeing both fans vary from 2K to 7K RPMs every 3-5 seconds.  Here are the PSU details:

This server was running firmware 1.0(2) when I first found this issue, I have since upgraded it to the lastest code.  I have done a full shutdown and removed the PSUs and let it sit for a few minutes.
When the fan speeds are low, the CPU performance is very low, VMs running on it are slow.  Any thoughts??

  • Fan speed varies 0 - 42 000 !! on K7N2G-ILSR

    Hello people! :D
    I have MSI K7N2G-ILSR board. I use the on board cpu fan connector for my cpu fan.
    The problem is this: according to PC-Alert the fan speed varies very much: sometimes PC-Alert says the fan is spinning over 42 000 rpm/min REALLY! and sometimes it says 0 rpm/min (it is an enermax adjustable fan)!
    I didn't have this problem say 2 months ago, but now I have it all the time. I have to switch off the PC-Alert to use the PC. I have tried other surveillance programs too and they give the same result!
    I have the newest version of PC-Alert installed. Other details you can find in my signature below.

    The fan problem was a simple one: if fan rotates less then approx 2000 rpm/min mainboards bios can't detect the rotationspeed correctly!
    So I raised the rpms over 2000 & all is ok!

  • PSU Fan Speed Monitoring

    Power supply fan speed shows zero in BIOS and Speedfan software.
    Same zero result when fan signal connector is attached to PWRFAN1 or SYSFAN1.
    Visual inspection shows PSU fan is spinning.
    Fan speed 1 and 2 work fine.
    How do I get fan speed 3 in Speedfan and/or bios to show the PSU fan speed ?

    At least on my mobo, there are only 2 connectors that can monitor fan speed, CPUFAN1, and NBFAN1. The other 2 connectors, SYSFAN1 and SYSFAN2 , can provide power to run fans off the MOBO but do not have the ability to "sense" speed or control the speed.. I only have the CPU HS fan connected to the MOBO and the sensor wire from the PSU attached to NBFAN1. All other fans I have connected directly to the PSU.

    I,ve put everything on automatic and followed the instructions from this forum, butthe PSU fan keeps going at 4800. Anyone got any good solutions?

    Cnotemd - not strictly true.  Enermax makes PSUs with manual fan speed control (such as mine - see sig) and also auto control via mobo temp monitoring.  Check out the Enermax website for further details.
    It's a useful noise reduction feature to be able to control PSU fan speed if heat dissipation is not a problem.

  • CPU FAN Speed & Voltages Question?

    I have an MSI KT4 Ultra MB with a retail AMD XP2400 Processor which came with a Fan & Heatsink.
    1. My Temps are fine, gen However my CPU Fan speed varies & I get the following speeds indicated at various times - 4141, 4167, 4116, 4193. Is this OK? I do not believe my Fan speed can be controlled by S/W so I was wonsering why this oocurs?

  • Help with Fan Speed/Temperature Monitoring - 875P Neo Series 2.0

    My mobo manual doesn't explain the monitoring facilities available on this board and I would like confirmation of the following:
    My P4 Northwood CPU Fan as supplied with P4 is connected to CFAN1 and provides monitoring of temperature and fan speed and also permits fan speed control.
    My Northbridge Fan as supplied with mobo is connected to NBFAN1 and provides monitoring and  control of fan speed.  No temperature monitoring available.
    My mobo provides monitoring of system temperature but doesn't say how this is measured and at what location.   
    There are two other 3-pin fan headers on the mobo; one is labelled SFAN1 with Gnd, +12V and the third pin NC and the other is labelled PFAN1 with Gnd, +12V and Sensor pins.
    My new Antec 500W SmartPower 2.0 PSU has a monitoring cable that is wired with a black Gnd wire and a blue Sensor wire and, according to the Antec manual, is supposed to provide fan speed monitoring if connected to PFAN1 - I have tried this and get no information showing in either SpeedFan or Sandra.   ??? 
    My new Case fan, an Antec SmartCool, also has a monitoring cable but only has the third pin wired, presumably a sensor wire, and presumably could also be attached to PFAN1 instead of the PSU signal connector to provide fan speed monitoring.   ???   Obviously I cannot connect both the PSU and Case Fan sensor cables to the mobo because the SFAN1 connection has no sensor pin connected; I presume this one is just a power supply to a fan as an alternative to using a supply line direct from the PSU.
    Can anyone advise me on the correct use of the PFAN1 and SFAN1 connectors and what they are capable of.

    - System temperature is measured at the Winbond W83627HF sensor chip located in front of your PCI slots.
    - PFAN1 does indeed monitor PSU fan speed if the PSU has a fan speed reporting header.  Not supported by some monitoring software (if Speedfan can't detect it, it doesn't support it.  At least not until Alfredo's next revision).
    - SFAN1 provides power only, no monitoring.
    - Try a different monitoring software and see if it can detect the sensor monitoring your PFAN1.  There are other monitoring software out there you can try, such as the CoreCenter that came with your motherboard, or Motherboard Monitor 5 or PCWizard (though you cannot adjust fan RPM through those programs).

  • Weired voltage cpu temp and fan speed readings

    Built this system last week when i install core center I get no 3.3 v readings. cpu temp plays between 18c to 60c and the fan speed from 800 t0 6000rpm. Check in the bios all voltage readings are fine but cpu temp and fan readins can be way off. Also installed lastest versions of mbm and get the same results. Flashed bios to latest version also. Cool and quiet is not activated.     Well sorry to say I solved the problem for good. Contacted MSI support. Only answer I got was Maybe the board was bad. Got it exchanged from the store and got an Asus av8 deluxe rev.2 instead. Everything runs fine. It was my first MSI board and sad to say it gave me a lot of headaches and configeration problems. The new setup ran great on the first try. Don't  think I will buy MSI again in the near future.

  • Heat/overheat and fan speed: worry?

    My imac is 27 inch mid 2011
    after i use my imac for 30 min, the machine is getting really hot on top. It happens fast if i play game like Leauge og legends in windows bootcamp, but it also gets really warm when i just surf on safari/internet. So no matter what i do, as long as i use imac, it gets really warm. Can anyone tell me why it gets hot? and sometimes fan make really loud noise, like imac is going to explode or melt itself. But my imac have never shutted down caz overheat.

  • Fan speeding up and down.. whistling

    Hi,
    I have a fan that's speeding up and down in the top of my mac pro. It's not the graphics card, but up in the top compartment and sounds like it should probably be replaced.
    I know my mac should still be under warranty since it's really been under a year since I bought it, but is this something that's covered?
    if not, is it possible for me to even take these out and replace them myself-maybe with something more robust? Where would I find a part number?

    Anything is covered and given the cost of a PSU or something.... AppleCare Backups UPS and of course monitor system temps and even fan speeds with something like iStatPro or Hardware Monitor.
    I would consider trying to take it in while you can and before there is real harm. PSU failures happen. If was a corroded wire lead, but if it is something else....
    I found AppleCare on Amazon to be slightly less.

  • Msi rx 3870 OC fan speed problem (constant@%24 fanspeed)

    hi all. i'm new to this forum and i need help.
    i got a problem with my graphic card. when i look my fan speed with gpu-z, it shows my fan speed@%24 constant. and when my card reaches somethink like 65 C my screen becomes blur then my monitor can't detect card and show black screen. i'm newbie so i don't want to do something silly with rivaturner or ati tool. i install last version of ati 9.6 this could be for this or this is a bios bug?!

  • Do more HDs increase minimum fan speed?

    While browsing around here I've noticed that a lot of people have a HD/Expan.. fan speed of around 500 and about the same for the power supply.
    My readings are always higher (even right after switching it on when all temps are still really low): My HD/Expan fan speed is never below 800, and the PSU seems to have a minimum of 600.
    I believe the reason for this may be that I have populated all four HD bays. Can somebody confirm that this would result in higher minimum default settings in Leopard?
    Also, I wonder if there's a way to 'switch some HDs off'. While in OS X I only actively use two drives on a regular basis. The third one is used for TimeMachine and the fourth one is hardly ever accessed since it's my Bootcamp drive.
    Any ideas how I can lower the fan speed (and hence the noise level)?

    I realize that more drives emit more heat; what surprised me is that even while they are still cool (30C) the fan is already up at 800rpm - where it stays even when the drives' temperature increase. That is why it appears the 800 rpm seems to be a minimum. I guess to really find out the correlation number of drive/rpm I need to remove some drives.
    As for the graphic card, I have an ATI 2600 which I cleaned thoroughly yesterday after reading about the ATI 1900. Yet, not much dust at all (actually I was surprised on how little dust I found in my Mac...seen a lot worse in previously owned PCs).

  • Psu fan sensor

    i have a new psu which has a wire for the fan sensor with a 2 pin plug attached but i cannot find anywhere to plug it into on my k7n2 board.
    my question is  am i blind or does this not need to be attached to the m/board being that the 2 fan points on the m/board are already being used

    I've just upgraded my PSU to an Antec unit. I've a few Q's of my own and thought i'd tag along rather than start a new thread.
    My MSI Supplied PC Alert software has displays for System Fan , CPU Fan And PSU fan can i presume that the fan that is sitting on my Northbridge Chipset is supplying the System Fan speed.
    Would it be OK to run the northbridge fan via a spare molex+adaptor and plug my Antec PSU sensor wire into SFAN1. I would think it was more important to have the CPU and NB fans on constantly and let the PSU vary the case and PSU fans - any idea's on this ??
    I Think that the Antec PSU has a certain amount of logic built in and can vary the fan speeds depending on the Temp , does anybody know if it can do this independantly (with an inbuilt temp probe) or does it need to be plugged into one of the MoBo Fan pin-outs.
    I can't get over just how quiet my computer is after fitting this new PSU , i keep checking to see eveything is still whirring away, it's so quiet. The (brand new) Fan supplied with my CPU is a right rattler when it starts up, it is easily the noisiest fan on the machine, possibly noisier than the 5 other Antec fans put together !
    Sorry if these Q's are a bit basic , i always think it best to ask before frying anything.

    My PSU has a 3-pin fan signal connector. Its labelled PSU fan monitor connoctor. Is there anyway I can connect this the mobo so that it can be monitored. I tried connecting it to S_Fan2 but I suspect this is for powering a fan, not monitoring.

    if you got a passive northbridge cooler, just use that connector on NB_fan1 (or something similar named)

  • No PSU fan

    My KT3 Ultra 2 does not see my PSU fan.
    I have tried PC Alert 3 and 4, as well as speed fan.
    It simply is not there.
    I am using bios 5.6.  5.4 was supposed to support low rpm fans.
    Anyone have this same problem or know a fix?

    I have a Antec True550 EPS12V 550W power supply, I am curious about the blue/back wire ... it says PSU FAN MONITER CONNECTOR. It's a 3 pin connector. Does MSI 865PE support this? I wonder, since the power supply has auto temp controller for salience.

    But it will Not Speed up or Ramp Down Without you Adjusting it Manually, as there is No thermal sensor , The Only thing that it will do Is Report the PSU'S Fan Speed in RPM'S...But If the NB Fan Header did have a Thermal Sensor (Or the Best would Be The Sytem Fan Header But this Lacks even the Speed Monitoring Function as it is only 2 Live Pins) But if they Both Had Thermal and Speed Sensors, that Would Make these Boards Absolutely Complete, As That Is My Main (and Only) Gripe about these 2 Boards, is the Lack of Fully Functional Fan Headers, and Put 4 of them On the Boards, Like almost everyone else does, Not that I use them as I Use my PSU to Power my Case Fans, But it would be Nice just in case I decided to use them, and for the people that do rely on them......But I have Already Suggested this in the MSI Survey..............Sean REILLY875
