C200 M2 LFF does not see disks in boot menu after ESXi installation

So in front of me I have a brand new C200 M2 LFF with a single E5606 processor, 20 GB of RAM and an LSI Megaraid 9260-4i controller and 4 1-TB SAS disks. I've put the disks in a RAID 5 array I've created a 10 GB virtual disk and successfully installed ESXi on it twice, with a second virtual disk to be used as a datastore.
However, I can't get the thing to boot. It's not even an option. The only storage option in the boot menu is the DVD drive. If I look at the mass stroage controller configuration, in fact, SATA ports 0 through 4 are "not installed" and port 5 has the DVD drive.
I've tried fiddling with the BIOS settings without any luck.Currently the onboard controller is enabled and the SATA mode is set to enhanced (which seems to be the default and what is recommended with the Megaraid cards). This was a bundle (UCSC-DBUN-C200-102 per the packing slip, which seems to be a disti-only part number), so I didn't have to assemble anything and I would assume all the cables were connected in the factory. I've opened up the server, and as far as I can tell all the cables look connected.
Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I have to open a case with the TAC, that's fine, but considering that I can actually install the operating system it has to be something stupid I'm missing.

Thanks. I had actually tried that with the boot mode set at UEFI and it didn't work, but I gave it another try set at legacy and it works fine.
The documentation for this seems confusing to me, though. Isn't this RAID card considered a mezzanine card? The documentation here says to enable the onboard controller to get a mezzanine card to work:

  • E450 disk installation - format does not see disk

We have an E450 with three disk controllers.
One with four drives and two RAID controllers with eight drives. Both RAID controllers are RAID5.
The four drive controller has two 9GB drives.
One RAID controller has eight 9GB drives.
The other RAID controller has eight 18GB drives.
We have three failed 18GB drives and are trying to install new drives, but the system does not see them.
We cannot get the system to recognize the new 18GB drives, even when we put them into the two open slots on the four-drive controller.
Probe-SCSI sees the new drives, but format does not.

    Hi cnhllc..
I was wondering what steps you took to resolve this issue?
We put in 8 hard disks and the Solaris OS (format command) recognizes only 6 hard disks. All 8 hard disks are seen when we issue probe-scsi-all, but only 6 are seen using format command. We are running Veritas VM & Cluster Server 3.5.
Any advice will be greatly greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • UCS C200 M2 LFF can't see disk

    DETAILS
    Disk - SAS 7.2k 1TB
    VMware ESXi v5
I was following the configuration guide http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/sw/os/vmware/install/VMWARE-esxi-install.html to install VMware ESXi v.5 on a Cisco UCS M2 LFF which has a disk - SAS 7.2k 1 TB.  I did the steps from 1 to 9 correctly.  However, when I got the number step No. 10, I checked the Boot Options on the BIOS and I didn't find the Hard Disk Order.  I'm attaching the screenshot of BIOS - Boot Options that I see:
I checked the UCS option Inventory - Options cards on the Cisco Integrated Management Controller and I didn't find the hard drive, this is the image I see:
Finally, I decided to move the hard drive to another bay (No. 2).  However, the result was the same, the BIOS can't recognise the hard drive.
Even though, I tried to install VMware and it can't find the disk.
Any ideas why UCS can recognised the disk?
I really appreciate your help with any information or idea because I'm in a hurry to finish my installation.
    Thanks,

    hi padramas,
i'm experiencing identical situation from this thread.
This server was purchased on ebay where the tech removed the HHD and a raid controller.
i've set the bios to the above same setting.
    Recently I purchased new:
Cisco LSI 1064E Mezzanine Card SAS HBA
    1 SAS
    R200-SASCBL
    2 Cisco R200-D300GB 300 GB Internal Hard Drive - Hot-Swap - 15000 RPM - Serial.
the  sled are green are lit when the HHD are in place ( these are new HHD)
Used the url below to troubleshoot.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/115025-ucs-cseries-cli-00.html#concept2
Followed the the steps and see the HHD and the show pcie-adapter
    HDD_01_STATUS present
    HDD_02_STATUS present
    HDD_03_STATUS absent
    HDD_04_STATUS absent
    I receive the following
chassis # scope storageadapter SLOT-5 or any SLOT or SAS for that matter
Error: Managed object does not exist, show the show command to list vaild targets.
i've gone so far as to put a stethoscope while the HHD are in the server and can't hear them spinning.
Could it be a jumper setting or a cable that was removed before this server was shipped to me.
this is a lab server so i don't have a smartnet accout to open a TAC case.
    thank you advance

  • IMac does not see my external hard drive after recent update

Is there a reason why my external hard drive is not being 'seen' by my iMac after the most recent update to the system?

managed to solve it myself after reading some other information on other forums.
Powered hard drive and iMac down, plugged hard drive in, turned on iMac, connected hard drive.  Bingo.

  • W520: Unable to boot from USB - device does not show up in boot menu

I have a W520, and I am trying to boot from a USB key. The USB key is bootable, my old T61p boots just fine from it, and so does another computer I tried.
The W520, after pressing F12 on power on, immediately shows the Intel PXE agent and then some blue boot menu, which only shows hard drive and LAN as available boot options.
I have tried all three USB ports but the results are always the same - the USB device does not show up. Is there any trick or BIOS setting to enable boot from USB?
    Thanks,
        CS

    Hello Neil
Thanks for getting back to me
The issue was that the usb drives were disabled in the bios from the  Startup menu.
    To enable
    1. Enter bios
    2. Select boot
    3. If you do not see the boot device you require use the down cursor key until the "Excluded from boot priority order" becomes visible.
    4. Select the device you require (in my case USB HDD)
    5. Save and exit.
You can now boot from a usb stick and install the Linux distro of your choice :-)
    Cheers

  • Time Machine does not see old Time Capsule backsups after change in network setting?

    Hi all,
Just brought our TC to our summer home for the season and have a few issues.
Instead of using it as our router, I added it to our existing AEBS network.  After doing this, all of our macs did not backup for a day or so.  Once I noticed this issue, I pointed them all back to the TC drive and backups have begun again.
However, 8 months worth of backups are no longer accessible via Time Machine on any of the macs. The files are there on the TC disk and they sorta show up in Time Machine.  That is, they are showing up on the right hand side as dates and little lines, but these dates and little lines are dead links. (the equivalent of being greyed out and unavailable)
Why did this happen when simply changing the TC network settings?  More importantly, how do I fix it so my older backups become available again?
    Thanks!
    Stu

The grayed-out lines mean that whatever's in the Finder window wasn't backed-up on that particular backup.
Try selecting your Computer name in the Finder sidebar (or pressing Shift+Cmd+C) before Entering Time Machine.  That will show one folder representing each the volumes (disks or partitions) currently connected.  Without changing anything on the Today (Now) window, click one of the backups in question.  That should show a folder for each volume that was included in that particular backup.

  • Satellite 2400-103 does not show BIOS or Boot Menu

I want to rescue this beauty I found but I have one problem: after entering Bios Password Windows XP starts immediately, no POST no nothing.
I have tried the method that theoretically works: "Esc" key while Toshibe logo shows up and then "F1" when prompted, by laptots restarts when I hit F1. Also I cannot get to start from CD. I've read that you can boot from cd while you press "C" but it doesn't work. Can it be a CMOS problem?
Someone can help me? Tx and sorry for my bad english.

Main problem is that original owner only remembers Laptop password, not Windows password, and I cannot do anything without booting from other devices. Also the original recovery disks are long gone.
I've tried every key (F2, del, ins, F12, c, 0..), every method i've read but I get no results, just a "beep" when I hit Esc and the "Check System. Then press F1 key" message.
I'll try to get the Windows password so I can use de Password utility. Thanks for the help.

    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
    Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive is malfunctioning.

  • SQL server 2012 does not see local disks other than C being started under domain account (which is local admin on the server)

Hi all. We have a SQL Server 2012 installed to a fresh Windows Server 2012 Server. There is a service account domain\rusystem01 created to run SQL services. It is added as a Local administrator on this server.
The issue is that SQL Server does not see any local drives (other than C drive) on the server if we run it from this domain service account (for example, we cannot move any databases to any other drives or setup backup).
It works fine (and other drives ARE available) if SQL Services are started from Network service account or Local service account (which is not recommended by Microsoft). But does not work from domain account.
Any ideas how to fix this?

    >Any ideas how to fix this?
Apply NTFS ACLs for the folders (and perhaps volumes*) for SQL Server.  Use the Per-Service SID, rather than the Service Account for the ACLs so they survive changing the service account.
The per-service SID is "NT Service\MSSQLSERVER" for a default instance and "NT Service\MSSQL$InstanceName" for a named instance.
*Volume ACLs are set in Disk Management.

David, would you please clarify what do you propose? I open D: volume on the Disk management and grant NT Service\MSSQL$DEV account with Full control permissions. Restarted SQL - no effect. Still only C: is visible for SQL.

  • Migration Assistant Does Not See Attached External Disk

I just purchased a MacBook Air to replace an aging MacBook Pro.  Both are running the latest Mountain Lion (10.8.3).  I want to move my files from the MBP to the MBA using Migration Assistant.  I first tried doing this over wi-fi, but when I learned it would take more than 99 hours, I chose to cancel the operation.
So I connected a new Seagate HD to the MBP and configured Time Machine to back up to it.  I let Time Machine run all day, creating hourly updates after the initial backup.  I then disconnected the drive, attached it to the MBA and rebooted.  I ran Migration Assistant and chose to migrate from a Time Machine backup.  However, Migration Assistant does not see the disk.  Yet the disk is mounted on the desktop, I can read and write to it, and I can see the Time Machine backups.  Only Migration Assistant seems unable to recognize the disk.
This isn't the first time I've had problems with MA (see my posting history).  When it works, it's terrific - my new computer has all the settings and preferences as the old.  My applications are all registered and operational.  So I'm very frustrated that I can't get it to work with my new MBA.  It really does diminish the experience of getting a new computer.  That, plus I don't want to spend days and weeks moving things over manually, re-installing, etc.
C'mon, Apple.  Why is Migration Assistant so difficult?  I'd chalk it up to user error, but this many times?

So, finally after fourten hours of unattended "migration," I let it continue overnight and in the morning found that the time remaining had not moved a minute.  I canceled MA and found that not one iota of data had transferred.
As far as I'm concerned, Migration Assistant ranks lower on the Apple success list than Open Doc, Newton, Pink and Taligent.
Now I have to manually install software I want to use on the MBA, apply licenses, and all the other stuff I would expect from Windows.
    NOT happy.

  • I am connected to time capsule via wi-fi but air port says not connected and disk utility does not see it

I am connected to time capsule via wi-fi but air port says not connected and disk utility does not see it. I had it connected via ethernet and it still did not see it. Then i disconncectd it from ethernet and did the Wi-fi connection and am able to post this message but air port still does not see it.

Disk Utility will not "see" the Time Capsule, so no need to waste any more time on that issue.
but air port still does not see it.
Not sure what you mean by "air port" here.

  • Migration assistant does not see my time machine disk

I had an issue with my hard disk on my imac in which I had to re-format and reinstall the OS. Since 10.7 is not available as a "rescue reinstall disk", I had to reinstall 10.6. When that finished, the install asked if I would like to transfer my stuff from Time Machine. I said "yes". Unfortunately, my time machine disk does not show up! Migration Assistant thinks my "macintosh HD" system disk is the only disk available as the time machine backup. So I skipped migration. I went ahead and did all of the OS upgrades to get back to 10.7.3. I re-connected all external disks (I have 4-the time machine disk included) and tried migration assistant again. The only disk migration assistant still thinks is available as the time machine backup is the macintosh HD system disk, not the one called "Time Machine Backup". Time machine backup is a western digital 2TB usb 2.0 disk.
    So....
I decided this morning to re-do everything again (since I still could not get my data back). Guess what?!?! the same thing is happening! Migration Assistant thinks that the macintosh HD is the time machine disk and does not see any others - even though the disk is there and mounted!
Please help! I would like my data back, but I am not able to pay Apple at the Apple store or a phone call to them for help!
    Thanks!
    Diana

Those are your backups.  Migration Assistant shows the name of the disk and system that were backed-up, not the disk they're on.  It will not show the disk you're running from.
See the tan box in Using Migration Assistant on Lion.
