C4385 print quality problems in Windows 7

After an install of upgrade Windows 7 Ultimate from Vista 64, the printer will not work properly. I have installed the new drivers from HP. It seems to work OK on text and printing emails, etc. But, when printing a JPG, the top 3/4 of the picture prints only magenta and maybe yellow and the bottom 1/4 of the picture apprears to be OK. Help!!!!

It sounds like you have a bad color cartrdige or perhaps a poor capping station seal.  If you print a second page is it all OK?  What about a color copy?
If the second page is OK but a page printed the next day is bad again then the issue is probably the capping station and your unit will require service.
If the copy is bad in the same manner as the print from the computer I would suspect a bad color cartrdige.

  • Print quality problems on Fuji Xerox printers when printing from ArchiCAD and/or Preview.

    Hello,
We experience major print quality problems when printing directly from Graphisoft's ArchiCAD, Nemetscheks Vectorworks and from Apple's Preview.
Basically we see various artefacts on our printed drawings, e.g. line thicknesses change and hatched patterns / fills are reproduced with patches where the lineweights and clours change completely... which is not acceptable.
This affects the following Fuji Xerox printer models on both 10.6.x and 10.7.x with the latest FJX PPDs:
    ApeosPort C5540I
    Xerox LF6605 MF
The workarounds for us are to either print PDFs from Adobe Acrobat Reader or via the rather dated Accxess Tools, besides that we prefer at times to print directly from a given Software it is also not always possible to generate a PDF and print it from Acrobat Reader... especially since the latest Adobe Reader update to its print dialogue makes printing from it extremely tedious - in fact we are considering going back to 9.5.2
Obviously, we have approached FJX Tech Support and are awaiting a reply - however we are disappointed that this is happening on relatively new equipment and wonder if anybody else has already found a solution.

The symptoms you mention could be related to the FJX engine and Acrobat is masking this fault. To test, you can create a Postscript file from the print dialog of ArchiCAD or VectorWorks and then download this to the Apeos RIP. If this produces the same result as when using the printer driver from the applications, then it would indicate that the engine is not capable of handling the data being sent to it from these applications.

  • Officejet Pro L7590 Print Quality Problems - Black/Yellow Printhead

    Officejt Pro L7590 All-In-One
Running on Windows 7 64 bit, USB connected to computer
Approx 2.5 yrs old; has printed 30,000 pages.
Issue:  Black/Yellow printhead replaced about 500-1000 pages ago; new unit only tested as "Fair" in diagnostics, even though it was fresh outta the box.  Print Quality good.
About two weeks ago, printer refused to print, flashing ambler "!", etc., error message regarding black/yellow printhead.
Ordered replacement ($71 again -- ouch!  Whole printer only cost $199 30 months ago).Again, new unit only "fair" in diagnostic (original Cyan/Magenta printhead still reads as "good").
New printhead required much cleaning and aligning, and now prints with large gaps on a regular basis down the page.  Talked to tech guy @ Staples where i bought it; his only "helpful" suggestion was that most people just toss the printers the first time the printheads go bad.
    Print heads are separately warranted.
    My questions:
    (1)  What else is there that's screwing up my print quality,a nd is it fixable?
    (2)  Can i get my $ back on the two printheads that didn't fix the printer's problems?

  • C4780 scan this alignment page for best print quality problem

My C4780 photosmart printer is stuck in the "scan this alignment page for best print quality" loop.
i.e. It keep display this message and refuse to print.
My OS is windows Vista Home.
I had followed the steps in the user manual but still cannot fix this problem.

    Hi tsanchung,
From the description of your problem, it appears that the alignment process was not completed successfully.
I would recommend that you load the alignment page printed as shown in the section 'Step eight: Align the cartridges' in the link below to complete the alignment:

  • Print quality problems with bluetooth Canon ip90 printer?

I've had this problem on prior PBs and the canon website is decidely NOT helpful so here goes....
I have a pixma ip90v printer with a bluetooth adaptor added to my MBook. It prints fine and I had no problems adding it to my new computer (it was originally used on a PBG4 and I had the same problem which is...) - every now and then the print quality goes to a light purple as if it's trying to save memory. Has anyone else encountered something like this?

Try resetting the printing system http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14141
You'll have to reinstall your printer after the reset.

  • Print quality problem with Officejet Pro K5400

I purchased the above printer on August 8th of this year and I have really liked it until now. The print quality has gone to ----! I have done a chat with a technician, replaced any of the cartridges that might be low and it is worse than ever. Two thirds of the page will print  okay and then the last third is either blank or very poor quality. I have tried changing the print quality from draft to best and it doesn't help. What  recourse do I have? I can't find a real person to talk to.
Does anyone out there have an answer?

I purchased my Pro K5400 in May 2008.  In the beginning it was loud (still is) but the printing was beautiful.  Over the last three months the color printing is really bad.  I've replaced the cartridges with only HP ink, I've aligned printheads, I've cleaned printheads, I've calibrated the linefeed.  The diagnostic suggests I replace the printheads.  Really?  After less than a year?  It also sporadically feeds several pages at once.  And, I do a lot of printing of claim forms, it arbitrarily expands the left margin.  Oh, it also jams often.  Again, I believe these last two are due to a feeding problem.  I sent an online question and got answers back in somewhat broken English that seem hooked on just replacing the ink and cleaning the printheads.  Also, they gave me directions on how to clear a jam.  This I know as I clear jams all the time in this printer.  They are unable (perhaps due to language barrier) to answer the feeding/jamming problems.  I really see this as just a very bad quality printer.  I've owned other HPs and never had problems like this.  What is the best way to contact someone in the United States about this printer?

  • LaserJet 2600n Print Quality problem (with a scan showing the problem)

I'm trying to create areas of solid colour in order to use the toner transfer method of making printed circuits.  To do that I need to print really dark solid black blocks - when I try that I see uneven toner in certain areas.  This scan of the output shows the problem:
There are lighter areas (less covered by toner) at the bottom (page orientation wise) of solid black blocks - but only where there is a subsequent block of black below!  For example, the leftmost shape's bottom edge is fine.
I'm perplexed.  I'm very impressed with the configurability of the 2600n, and I get the feeling that there's probably a setting I could tweak to solve this, and I'm hoping that there's a laser printer expert reading this forum who'll have some suggestions.
    Cheers,
    Chris.

It looks to me as if you have your print quality setting in your printer driver set to standard or draft rather than set to best photo. This setting has to be changed in your printer driver which is accessed by the button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen when you are in the print module.

  • Epson/illustrator/mountain lion print quality problem

    Hi,
I just upgraded to mountain lion and now have problems printing from Illustrator CS4 and my Epson R1900. The print quality has drastically declined. I loaded the printers software update, tried every possible print setting but just can not get my files printed in a decent quality anymore.
I also tried to add the printer again but the response I am getting is : Can't install the software for the EPSON Stylus Photo R1900 because it is not currently available from the Software Update server.
However, according to Epson this model is compatible with Mountain Lion
Anybody else had this problem and/or a possible solution for me? Thanks in advance

I think the server might be busy or there are problems. Try later.

  • HP1280C print quality problem

So I finally got my friend to upgrade his aging powermac G3 (with OSX and pagemaker 6.5 etc) to a new Mac Mini, He bought inDesign CS2 and Photoshop CS2 etc. for it (got a good deal) so I thought all was well.
Then he goes to try and print one of his pagemaker files with it, and thats when the problems start, the greys aren't grey, they are blocks of random red/green/blue pixels, black lines aren't crisp but have jaggy edges, printed letters aren't crisp and black but have pixels all around them, sort of like it's trying to print anti-aliased but the printer interprets it as black & white and dithers everything.
I don't know how to fix it, short of buying a different printer? He makes publications for a living, things have to look good, and they did with the crusty old computer.
so, any suggestions on improving the print quality? we played with the settings in the print dialog, like forcing color or B&W, didn't seem to do anything.

    Which driver are you/he using?
Do you have Rosetta installed, so that legacy drivers can work?

  • New Canon Pixma MG2220 printer - install problems on Windows XP

I bought a new Pixma MG2220 printer and received it 2 days ago. I followed the instructions and installed it from the provided CD on my 10 year old Compaq S4020WM desktop computer upgraded with 1GB RAM and 1TB hard drive running Windows XP SP3.
The CD installation took a very long time to complete (maybe an hour or so) and things did not work right. In particular the My Image Garden software was very slow and sluggish to respond. So I downloaded and installed the latest drivers and software from the Canon website on top of the existing installation, which did not help. The My Image Garden software began crashing completely with an error message about a bad .dll file. After talking to Canon tech support on the telephone, the support tech admitted that this software CD was probably not compatible with my old XP computer. The My Image Garden software uses like 500MB RAM which is too much resources for my machine. So the rep had me uninstall My Image Garden.
At that point I decided to uninstall everything and start over from scratch because something was obviously not right. For example, the Canon MP drivers were using 755 MB RAM, which seemed much too large. Obviously things had not installed properly from the setup CD, in general. The date on the setup CD was 2011, so apparently it was 2 years old, and long out of date!?
So I uninstalled everything except the Canon registration and onscreen user manual. I also kept Windows Adobe RGB 1998 because I didn't see any way to uninstall it. I also uninstalled .NET 4 which the setup CD had said was necessary, as well as Microsoft XPS EP which My Image Garden had also told me was needed. Then I cleaned up my computer as well as possible with help of Revouninstaller and Ccleaner, which was necessary because things were very messy with many uninstalled remnants and incorrect registry entries. I feel lucky to have survived those tasks without having to reinstall my op system. It wasn't easy.
Then I installed the following 2 modules (only) downloaded from the Canon website:
    MG2200 series MP Drivers Ver. 1.01 (Windows 8/8...         01/31/13     14.07 MB
    File Name: mp68-win-mg2200-1_01-ejs.exe
This file is a driver for Canon IJ multifunction printers. You can install the following items of the software: MP Drivers: The driver for Canon IJ multifunction printer. IJ Scan Utility: The software that allows you to easily scan photos, documents, etc.
    *My Printer Ver. 3.1.0 (Windows 8/8 x64/7/7 x64/...         01/07/13     5.12 MB
    File Name: mypr-win-3_1_0-ea11_2.exe
This file allows you to easily change the settings such as the paper source settings and provides you with information on how to solve problems such as ink smudging.
I believe that's everything required to access all of the print, copy, and scan operations of this MG2220 printer. Based on my current understanding, I would classify everything else as optional. I use free Irfanview for editing and manipulation of images, which seems a satisfactory substitute for the other software.
I did not reinstall .NET 4 or Microsoft XPS EP, because apparently they're only required if you install the My Image Garden and/or Quick Menu modules. I also did not reinstall the Easy-WebPrint EX module which apparently only applies to printing with the Internet Explorer browser, while I primarily use Firefox, Chrome, or Opera browsers. And of course I did not reinstall My Image Garden nor the Quick Menu, which were so problematical originally.
On the bright side, the Canon MP drivers appeared to install correctly this time, using only 35 MB RAM (vs 755 MB previously). Also the Canon IJ Scan utility was reinstalled automatically as a part of that driver installation process. Those items have their own shortcuts. I found it useful to make one additional shortcut via Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes > "Canon MG2220 series printer", to allow easy access to all of the internal printer settings and variables. Like I said, I believe this is all that's required, in addition to some image manipulation software such as Irfanview. I deal mostly with documents and never print photos nor use cameras. Those who have large photo collections and/or cameras may need something like My Image Garden or Easy-PhotoPrint EX.
I previously used Lexmark printers for the prior 10+ years, where everything is controlled by software from the computer. I never had to use the buttons on the printer. That's obviously different with this Canon printer, which will take some getting used to.
I'm disappointed that there's apparently no way to enlarge or reduce the % copy size with this model. Is there? I also don't find any setting for lighter/darker when making copies. Is there? There are apparently no other enhancements or filters available when copying. Are there? Similarly, scanning seems remarkably unversatile with this model and I can't find any way to set a scan for ligher/darker or apply various enhancements/filters. Are there?
The printing seems OK, but I must still decide whether the very limited copy and scan options will be sufficient to my needs. I'm not sure yet. I might take it back for a refund and get something better, if I knew what was better. That's another research project. Suggestions?
    Thanks for any feedback.

Thanks for your info but the MG5420 is more than twice the cost at my local Walmart and Staples stores.
I thought I was being smart to buy the MG2220 as a later model(?), but it looks like the prior model MG2120 has more copier and scanner features according to the online specs at the Canon website (see copies below).
For example the MG2120 allows 25%-400% reduction/enlargement when copying, while the MG2220 does not. Can you verify this?
Also does the MG2120 allow for setting copying to lighter/darker? (I don't understand that complicated technical lingo in the specs.)
    Thanks.

  • Printing quality problem

We spend incredible amount of time to find out how to how to make
reliable print from EXE done in LV6.0.2 under W9x,WinNT, W2K. But we
    have no solution.
First we used direct print VI panel, after VI competition, but there
are many problems with it. Then we left it and switched to report
generation, now we are at the same situation.
-Report generation does under WinNT and W2K different size of report
on printer printout, NI-support suggest: LET USE W98.
-Using W98, printing on printer with page format A4, EXE crashed.
    NI-support
    suggest: LET USE WinNT,W2K
-Another problem: after printing to printer, the memory space used by
LV is growing while using report generation VIs after every print even
though I closed report reference. Each print make
    app. or LV allocated
memory 3 MB higher. The newly allocated memory is no more released and
all VI's are after 3to 5 printouts really slow.
Seems to me probably nobody is using report generation VI's, because
there is no way to use it.
Seems to me also, that the only way (but painful) how to print from
LV6.0.2 is the same, which exists since LV4 - print panel after
competition (the same solution as 4 years ago...). Even this solution
is really bad under W98 printing to HP printers - we can see very
often that EXE crashed after printing, or sometimes fonts have correct
    size and sometimes not.
The only reliable way is: using VI server function, generate
physically BMP file on hard disk and then this BMP print out using
paint.exe(MS-paintbrush). Printouts are reliable, but because of
generated BMP they look like from ZX Spectrum or Atari age. Also we
can generate HTML physically to HDD, but there is no way how to ensure
the same size of each item on print (HTML <-> MSexplorer problem)
    , so
it is unusable. Also unusable is to force customer to buy and use
MS-word to be able print from our application done in LabVIEW.
Maybe we are doing something wrong, but we cannot to find the problem.
    Thanks for any help.

I don't have any complaints about printing from LV - well, not many, anyway.
First things first - there is a known bug in the 'Print Panel at Completion' method of printing, under LV6.0.2, when running under Win95/98. It involves LV not releasing resources, causes font corruption, and ultimately an assert/crash. It DOES NOT happen under WinNT/2K. If you MUST run W95/98, you can specify 'bitmap printing' as a workaround, but this is very slow.
Apart from that, I have generally excellent results using print on completion under LV6, usually to an HP LaserJet. A few things I've learned:
    1) Disable scaling in the VI print setup - this just confuses things. Size the objects on the VI panel to fit the printable area (LV uses 72 pixels/inch).
    2) Create
the 'print on completion' VI as something that is never shown onscreen - don't try to make one VI do onscreen presentation and printing.
    3) Paint the background of the printing VI white.
    4) If you drop a graphic on the printing VI's FP (like a company logo), get a BIG, high res image. After pasting it, shrink/resize it w/in LV. When it prints, the full resolution is retained and used.
    5) Paint control/indicator frames and 'stuff' either white or transparent. These things can really clutter the printed results.
Hope this helps - I've used this method to produce some really sharp test reports, certificates of conformance, etc.

  • Acrobat 7.0 Printer port problem with windows 7.0?

I installed adbobe acrobat 7.0 standard on my new computer (windows 7.0), and I get this message: "warning 20225 adobe 7.0 ws unanle to setup adobe printer port." Does acrobat 7.0 work with windows 7.0?

If you are able to open Acrobat and Distiller, then you may be able to create a work-around. If the Adobe PDF printer was created, but not the port, then change the port to a "print-to-file" setting. Then open Distiller and setup a watched folder that you would print the file to. When you print the file, you may have to set the file extension to PS rather than the default PRN. The file would be a PS file and the extension is only to help the watched folder setup. Then try to print to the Adobe PDF printer and see if the watched folder will do the job. I am not sure and have not tried it on Win7 (I have AA9) but it is an option to try. If it does not work, then it is time to upgrade -- may be a good idea anyway.

  • Laserwriter 16/600 PS print quality problem

This printer has given us years of faithful service but has recently started producing smudges at regular intervals down both margins. I installed a new HP toner cartridge which seemed to help for a while but the problem has returned. I'm hoping that there is some preventative maintenance I have foolishly been ignoring,
    Can anyone provide any suggestions?

    William,
You mentioned regular intervals. Each roller has a different diameter. By measuring the distance between smudges, you can determine which roller is the culprit. Measure and post back. OR, check here for more details.
    http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/
Cleaning the fuser roller is a good place to start. As long as the toner does not smudge like wet paint, the heating element is doing its job.
    Good luck.
