C4599 installing fine -- disappearing within a day or two!

Hi all!  I just bought a C4599 (have been an avid HP printer lover for over 10 years) and excitedly set it up and love it but I am having a recurring problem that may force me to return it for a different printer.      I have contacted HP tech support via email and rec'd very sparse help, thus far so thought I'd try here.  I *DID* search the forum and found one problem similar to this one but it hadn't yet resolved into a solution and it was a little different (he was saying his printer continues to work fine but only his scanner disappears -- in my case the entire printer disappears).
So here's the config:
(1) C4599
(2) Toshiba laptops, both running Vista (one is my wife's, one is mine) -- though there are certainly differences between the two from personal use, I do all the updates/maintenance on them (and they are identical models) so from a hardware point of view they are identical and from a software point of view they are nearly identical (with regards to service packs, drivers, etc)
(1) fairly experienced computer guy (prior retail bench-tech, current software engineer) -- not saying I know it all, no way!
The initial install and results:
  1)  Installed the printer via USB using my laptop, worked great -- configured printer to operate wirelessly on my LAN via DHCP
  2)  Removed USB cable and ran setup software again -- this time changing the setting to use the now wireless printer -- worked great!
  3)  Ran the software on my wife's laptop, setting the wireless printer up -- worked great!
  4)  After about a day I notice, when trying to print, the printer is no longer among my printer choices.  It's simply not there.   The HP Digital Imaging Monitor also says it's not there.
  5)  My wife's laptop shows it is connected to the printer just fine, and prints successfully.
  6)  I notice that in the NETWORK panel (on my laptop) the printer is still there -- but rebooting my laptop does nothing.
  7)  I reinstall the software on my end, printer is found -- works great!
  8)  Problem repeats several times on both of our laptops over several days.  Each time the symptoms are pretty much exactly as described above.  Each time one laptop can still use the printer, while the other can't (but don't read that to mean that never do both laptops see the printer, they DO!  Once I newly install the software on the ailing laptop, BOTH LAPTOPS CAN THEN SEE THE PRINTER -- AND USE IT!  But it's just a matter of time before one of them "loses" the printer... and sometimes both of them lose it).
  9)  I then changed the printer to a static IP that I know for sure no other device on my network will contend for (it's outside of the DHCP pool and everything else on my network is DHCP).  This did not resolve the issue, within a day or two the printer disappeared again.
 10) I emailed HP tech support and received a length document outlining how to open ports, disable security settings, etc.  While this seems helpful, it seems odd to me -- I would think that if I can see and use the printer (including scanner) with no problems for a day or two then things like closed ports and too tight security settings wouldn't be the problem -- but what do I know.
 11)  So I proceed with step 1 of the email from HP and at step 2 I am told to:
b. Then perform the below steps to scan using Embedded Web Server.
1. Open Internet Explorer browser.
2. Type the IP address of the HP All-in-One/ print server (as taken from the
Configuration page) into your browser.
3. Press Enter.
NOTE: Java must be installed on the computer. If you are using Windows XP,
it may be necessary to obtain the latest version of Java.
4. The Embedded Web Server will appear.
5. Select Scan, which displays the following options: Image Type, Image
Format, Document Size Adjust the settings accordingly.
6. Click the Scan button.
 12)  However, after doing all of the above and getting to step 5, I see NO SCAN "button" -- in fact, nothing really says "scan".  The web server page looks nice and has areas for me to see the wireless configuration (and change it) and do a few different things and the page looks complete --- but no "scan" function can be found.  I know the scanner normally works, though, b/c I have used it successfully a few times.
After emailing the results back to HP 3 days ago and not receiving a response, I'm getting to the point of giving up -- I'm much too busy to deal with a printer that needs to be reinstalled every day or two and return periods nowdays on most computer stuff is 15 days so I'm getting ready to just take it back in a few more days.  I'm hoping you guys here can help me fix this!  (PLEASE)
I know this is length but was trying to provide as much relevant info. as I could think of.  I appreciate any feedback that might result in this problem being fixed.
Thank You,
Bane

Hi Bane,
First off, the C45xx series of printers do not have a scan feature from the printer's internal web server. Sorry about the bad advice from HP on that one -- they should know better.
Next, what firewall are you running on your laptops? I'm wondering if the network port used for device discovery is blocking the HP software access to your LAN?
When you lose the ability to print, can you still browse the printer's internal web page? Also, when you lose the ability to print, does power cycling the printer help at all?
I know you set a static IP address for the printer. Have you considered setting a DHCP reservation for both the printer and laptops so that your router always assigns the same IP address to the laptops?
Finally, what brand of wireless-router are you using? Are you using encryption?

  • Can't open Microsoft Office 2011 even after unistalling then reinstalling. Error message comes up before launch. What do I do? Can I fix this? I need to activate Microsoft Office within 15 days!!

I recently got a new MacBook Pro Running on OSX Mavericks and used Time Machine to move my documents and applications. However Microsoft Office Student/ Home applications did not work and requested a product key. I did not have the product key for it as I had installed Microsoft a long time ago, so I purchased a new Mincrosoft Office 2011 Student/Home Pin to install Microsoft Office. Everything installed fine, however when I go to open it it failed to open.
I need to activate my Microsoft Office within 15 days apparently and this is done when the application is launched. However none of the Microsoft Office applications do Launch (not Word, Powerpoint, Excel or Outlook).
Whenever I tried to open one of the named above the Microsoft Error Reporting App would pop up and list the errors. I was advised on other support pages to disenable this app so I have done that but now Word is now giving its own error message saying:

This indicates you had a bad install. You need to completely remove Office and reinstall using your new CD Key. See instructions here. Do not do the simple remove, Use the COMPLETELY REMOVE ALL FILES steps.

You don't purchase a PIN. A PIN is generated when you install Office. You need a CD Key. If you bought Office365, you activate online.
I have issues with the Microsoft User Data - are there supposed to be two? and where exactly do they belon. They are in the Documents file at the moment.
Unless you used Outlook or Entourage you can delete both Microsoft User Data folders. When you install Office it will create a new one. Only Outlook & Entourage used this folder for data. W,E,P stores it's data in the User's Library/Application Support/Microsoft folder now.

CS2 is very old and reached its "end of life" a while back.  So probably won't run on modern operating systems.  If you can still run it, you'll need to uninstall what you have and re-install with the download link below to activate it.

  • CS3 InDesign & Illustrator Install Exit Code 7; Other CS3 Apps Install Fine

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse... (no offence to horse lovers out there - it's just an expression)
I'm having trouble performing an silent install of the CS3 suite from a network share on Windows 7.  I've read through a number of posts on here, one of which was a 3 page post on this issue where Mac & Win 7 users alike posted failures, successes and how they got there, and another about removing the OS check feature from the application.proxy.xml file (which didn't work for me; unless I did something wrong...?)  Unfortunately for me after trying much of what was suggested, I'm still facing a brick wall.
All these machines are Core 2 Duo's clocked at no less than 2.2GHz, have 4GB of RAM, have over 100GB of free disk space and are running fully updated/patched installations of Windows 7 32-bit (x86) with Office 2007 Enterprise.
When I try to install the suite silently it fails with 'Exit Code: 7', which according to the CS3_Deployment.pdf means "Unable to complete the silent workflow."  If I take out the "--mode=silent" switch, the GUI launches and installs fine.  I took a look at the compressed log file & searched for "Return value 3", "ERROR" and "FATAL" for clues, but its vague and nondescript.  I didn't copy/paste the entire log in this post for brevity's sake, but you can check it out here:

Instead, however, I do want to touch on just a few things from the log:

I've got some initial questions that pertain to what's in the log file:
The areas in bold:  Since the same install also fails on Windows XP machines, what does this mean exactly?
The areas in italics: Can anyone expand on what that means?
The underlined areas: What 'Policy' is this referring to: Setup's own internal policy (like the OS check) or something else?
Here's what I've done so far:
Went through the 'Run a silent installation of Adobe Creative Suite 3' document
Went through the 'Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4' document
Used the Adobe Support Advisor to go through the logs, but it always says that no problems are found.
Recreated the install & uninstall XML files, twice, via the "setup.exe --record=1" method for each application & the entire suiteNot that I think this is important, but I was never prompted to enter a serial number when creating the .XML files.
Renamed the XML files for each application (e.g.: Photoshop-install.xml; CS3Suite-install.xml; Flash-remove.xml etc.)
Copied the XML files to a common folder on a network share (e.g.: \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs)
Created install batch files for each application, including the suite, that install via the following command"\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\Setup.exe" --mode=silent --deploymentFile="\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs\Photoship-install.xml"
Tried the installs with & without the "--skipProcessCheck=1" switch but there's no change.
No applications are running during the installs.
Verified my application.xml.override file was in \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\payloads\AdobeDesignSuitePremiumen_US_Volume
Verified I didn't have any strange characters in my application.xml.override fileI deleted and manually retyped all double quotes just to be sure.
I noticed that the "installSourcePath" property in the install.xml files created point to a local location rather than, what I would expect to be, the installation source folder where I copied the contents of the DVD to.  On a whim I changed it to point to the copied DVD files but that didn't seem to help either so I changed it back.
    FROM: <Property name="installSourcePath">C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\498b43b77cac072081a5692bfc52804</Property>

Aside from Acrobat Reader 9.4.0, Adobe Flash Player 10 (ActiveX & Plugin) and maybe Shockwave 11, these machines never previously had any other Adobe products installed.
For what its worth, uninstalling Acrobat Reader 9.4.0 doesn't seem to help either.  I didn't try removing Flash Player or Shockwave [yet].
Using the install XML files I created via "setup.exe --record=1", when I run installs for the individual applications silently [via batch files] one at a time, all applications install fine except for Illustrator and InDesign: Exit Code 7.
This may further help suggest my application.xml.override file is fine.
Even more interesting is that I get the same error on Windows XP and Windows 7 machines alike.  (See the image below taken from an XP machine; the same happens on Windows 7 machines so it doesn't appear this problem is OS specific.)
Other than removing Flash Player, Shockwave and ripping out our Anti-Virus solution (Sophos), which is going to be difficult, is there anything I've missed?
Anyone have suggestions on why Illustrator and InDesign don't install?

I spoke with Adobe Support today and was directed to this support article:
    CPSID_84332 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84332.html
Although this article speaks to CS5 installations, even though I thought I made it clear that I was working with CS3, I decided to give it a shot anyway.
The first comment passively suggests troubleshooting [all] "install errors using Creative Suite 5 install logs", which links you to CPSID_84451 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/844/cpsid_84451.html.  But again, its CS3 I'm having trouble with and I've already linked, what I believe to be, a more appropriate CS3 [and CS4] log troubleshooting document in my first post.
Step 1 requires restarting "your computer in a minimized state before running the installer." - This isn't at all optional nor ideal when we're talking about silent installations, especially when they can take place in the middle of the day - its highly distruptive, or deployments in general.  Plus, I'm not interested in developing a package that will perform the steps outlined and then undo everything.  Its important to note that this isn't a one-off problem: every machine that needs to have CS3 installed experiences this problem.  But for what its worth:
I did as instructed in the troubleshooting documentation but it didn't work.
No other applications fail to install, and all but these lone Adobe CS3 apps install fine; what gives?
Step 2 is to perform a repair installation of the Windows Installer.  (FYI: Windows 7 ships with 5.0, my version is 5.0.7600.16385, and for the record there doesn't seem to be a redistributable download available at this time.)  I can't use this as part of my silent installation package because it calls you to run `sfc /scannow` which is time consuming and, if something is found, often requires a reboot.  Fortunately for me, "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
Step 3 is to preinstall Adobe Air and the AdobeHelp payloads:
AIR isn't part of the CS3 DVD, it has to be downloaded & installed silently (via -silent -eulaAccepted if you don't have the redistributable package); this was done but didn't help.
There isn't an 'AdobeHelp' payload, only 'AdobeHelpViewerAll', which will not allow a manual instalation so I can't do that.
In summary, these tips unfortunately did not solve the problem.

  • Error starting Acrobat X Pro: ...You need to deactivate another computer within 32767 days to use

The serial number xxxxxxx...  is already in use by the maximum allowed computers. You need to deactivate another computer within 32767 days to use this product.
Installed CS6 Design Std (which included Acro X Pro) from DVD.  All the apps work except for Acrobat, which gives the above error.  The s/n in the error is different from the s/n used for installing Design Std.  Per support, fully uninstalled Design Std and any other Acrobat related s/w, then ran a "cleaner" that they provided.  Reinstalled CS6 Design Std from DVD ... same problem.  Already wasted over 4 hours on Adobe support chat.
    Thanks.

This suggestion from Adobe Tech Support did NOT work either...
Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support.
I understand that you are unable to activate Acrobat X Pro.
From the error message it seems like Acrobat is taking the standalone serial number and not from the suite.
Have you tried uninstalling only Acrobat and reinstall it from the CS6 suite? If not, then please perform uninstall Acrobat and reinstall it as trial.
Once the reinstallation is completed, first launch a product from CS6 like Photoshop and then launch Acrobat X and check if it works.

No need to apologize, Jim.  I think your rant was justified.  For years people have been telling me how easy the Mac was to use.  Imagine my frustration when I finally learned from friends and users that it takes weeks or months to make the transition from Windows to Mac.
Still, I agree that I acted to too hastily when I returned my mini-mac to the store only three days after I bought it.
I'm going to try again, this time with an iMac.  This time I'll keep it.  Since this thread is for the mini-Mac only, I'll probably be starting a new one for the iMac.
Why did I decide to try again?  Well, I do like the faster speed and compact hardware of the Macs.  I also like the fact that I can install Windows and use that for my programs until I transition completely to Mac, IF I make the complete transition.
Thank you all for your suggestions and advice.  I have paid attention to what you said.

  • Looking for Help - DCM Item to check if Computer Rebooted within 7 days

    Hi,
I would like to use DCM to tell me if computers have rebooted within 7 days.  I would like to audit compliance for this reboot status.
I would like to target my Windows servers (14K of them) to tell me if they have rebooted recently.  Is there a way to do this in SCCM using DCM?
I've been looking at WQL query and think the LASTBOOTUPTime is a good place to check for the (well) last boot time.  But I am having trouble figuring out how to evaluate 7 days and use DCM to report on this for compliance.
    Does anyone have any ideas...
Note: I have seen post on how to do this using hardware inventory data - but this is too slow for me as our hardware inventory SCCm client schedule is set to 2 weeks for servers.

Thanks for the script, we are using to see which system haven't rebooted on 35 days.
We had a few false non-compliant results based on the computer regional settings.
I updated your script to and changed it look at days rather than hours.

  • I installed lightroom 5 with a 30 day trial and it finished. Yesterday I installed cc and when I open LR5 I need a serial number. What do I do/how do I get one? Please help Tank you

I installed lightroom 5 with a 30 day trial and it finished.
Yesterday I installed cc and when I open LR5 I need a serial number.
What do I do/how do I get one?
    Please help, Thank you.

Your photos remain in place, the catalog you have been using will remain. After you install Lightroom from the CC, all you have to do is open your existing catalog and continue right where you left off.

  • TS1967 I have just bought a new computer and downloaded latest version of itunes.  It has all installed fine, but when I sync my ipod, it shows all the songs but won't play any of the songs in that library.  Also, I can't add new files.

I have just bought a new computer and downloaded the latest version of itunes.  It has all installed fine, but when I plug my ipod and sync it, the music library shows all the songs and videos that are on there, but won't let me play them.  Also, I can't add any new songs to the same library.  It saves them elsewhere. I have had the previous version on another computer and it worked just fine.  I have been online trying to find an answer but nothing.  Hope someone can help me. Thanks

Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.

  • I did a factory reset on my late 2008 MacBook from a Snow Leopard disc. It installed fine, but as soon as I began to use the computer (safari) it froze. Couldn't even force quit. So I held down the power button to turn it off, and now it won't start up.

I did a factory reset on my late 2008 MacBook from a Snow Leopard disc. It installed fine, but as soon as I began to use the computer (safari) it froze. Couldn't even force quit. So I held down the power button to turn it off, and now it won't start up. It goes to the grey Apple screen and just sits there loud as can be. Help! Please keep in mind I've not done anything like this before and am going to need a little hand-holding. Thanks in advance.

Hi. Don't worry it's nothing serious. Insert the Instal Disc (Snow Leopard) and press the C button while turning on the computer. Once you see the desktop, go to Utility and choose Disk Utility. Select the Macintosh Partition on the left window pane and then click on Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions on the bottom right corner. Wait for both processes to finish. Click on the Apple icon (top left corner) and choose quit. Your computer should restart. See if it reboots normally. If not you can always reinstall the OS following the same steps. Good luck!

I have Adobe acrobat pro extended plug in and microsoft silverlight plug in installed fine on my firefox , however it seems doesn't work . How to check them ? I knew doesn't work , because when i am using IE , i can click right mouse button, then options to "convert to pdf document" appeared. While when i used firefox it doesn't , how to check

you can get an acrobat 9 pro trial version here, if you follow all 7 steps:  http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
i'm not sure if your license for the extended version will work with the non-extended version but, give it a try.

  • CANCELLING CREATIVE CLOUD WITHIN 30 DAYS!

I tried to cancel my Creative Cloud subscription within 30 days via web as stated on e-mail I received during sign-up, but I can’t find the option to cancel. Then I tried to call the customer service to cancel and as of now, I have spent almost 2 hours already and still cannot cancel the subscription. The call always goes to the customer service in India and they don’t have right to cancel my subscription. They tried to transfer me 2 times to the next level support and got disconnected during the transfer. I called again and was told I was being transferred to someone who could help and sat on hold for 30 minutes! I hung up called again which was promptly answered, I asked to speak to supervisor but was not given to one. He was very apologetic for my trouble. He said he was going to transfer me to cancelation person and I have now been on hold for another 30 minutes waiting for this person??
It was so easy to sign-up but sounds impossible to cancel. I was told during sign-up that you can cancel within 30 days. I tried to cancel this few days back from the web but cannot find the option. Today is the last day and I try to get it done via phone but as of I am writing this message, I am still on-hold.
I have been very sick this past week and was in hospital and I have no energy for this!
I hope someone can help me! My order number was AD006182719 and my case # 209690467
If I cannot cancel by today, I will dispute the payment with the credit card company. Seriously, I felt cheated over this try for 30 days and cancel if you dont like it deal! I love photoshop and light room but I don't need creative cloud it is too advanced for me I don't need it.

I am having the same problem. I have called three times and received a call back once. Emailed twice. Chatted three times. And no one will cancel my membership. I started to cancel within the 30 days but could not get help to do so. Now it's past the 30 days and I do NOT want to pay a penalty of $140+. I am very discouraged by the horrible customer service. I want my membership cancelled and I will not pay the penalty. I have a case number. 211758661
I have read so many similar problems for others .... that we tried to cancel within the 30 days (I signed up Aug 12, 2013) and basically help was ignored until after the 30 days. No one in India seems to be able to help, that is extremely clear. I was "escalated" finally in October, but never received a reply. Escalated again today ! This is ridiculous for a company like Adobe.  i'm trying to cancel with my credit card company too, but they can't do anything until I have a cancellation number. I'll try with my case number.
