.CAF and File Transfer Problem

It seems like the iPhone SDK limits the codec to .CAF for applications. It seems like Garage Band handles this extention quite well; however, I mainly use a PC. I was wondering what Audio Editing software people use that can handle .caf.
Quicktime Pro can convert to .MOV, but was wondering if there was an easier way to import these files into iTunes.
Basically, I have recordings of lectures and work related items using the program iDicto, but perfer to have the files organized in iTunes.
On a side note, iDicto recently had an update which allows 3 different recording qualities. I use the best quality, which makes a lecture ~100MB; however, when I go an try to transfer this file to my PC via Bonjour/WEBDAV(?), it will stop at ~30-50MB; giving me an incomplete recording.
I was wondering if this was a bug in the application, or if the iPhone has difficulties transferring larger files. Any information would be greatly apprecaited, and if you have some downtime and want to try and reporduce this on a iPhone, iDicto is currently being offered has a free trial.
Thanks again,
Mark

I have the same problem... When trying to upload large files from iDicto using bonjour, the application crashes at around 30MB.

  • File transfer problem

    I have a 2009 intel iMAC running 10.6.8.  Several months ago it developed a file transfer problem.  When transferring files to an external server via ethernet cable, most of the time it will only let me transfer one file at a time whether is a small word document or a large video file that is several gigabytes.   Even with transferring just one file, the elapsed time bar will not indicate the file has completely transferred.  It stays open and appears as if it is still trying to transfer even though the file size transferred is equal to the size of the file.  Plus the only way I can close the the transfer bar is to relaunch finder.  Then when I go to the folder it was transferring it to, the entire file will be there.
    Suggestions?

    Have you tried restarting the external drive and the computer?

  • New to MacBook - slow LAN file transfer problem

    My new MacBook is painfully slow when wifi-ing to my house LAN.
    I turned in my old G4 iBook for a MacBook (2GHz C2D, 2GB, 10.4.9, all updates). I have a LAN that consists of a wired 1G Ethernet backbone (a Mini and a Powermac G5 are wired in) and a Snow AEB that provides 802.11g wifi access to the LAN. The wired LAN connects to a D-Link GB Ethernet switch so the wired systems can exchange files fast. The switch connects to a D-Link EBR2310 router that connects to a cable modem to ComCast. The router has the latest firmware (1.05, it's an 'A' version router).
    The Mini, G5, and MB are static IPs on the LAN. The D-Link router passes out DHCP addresses >100, with addresses <101 reserved for static LAN IPs. I use static IPs for network reliability when recovering from power outages and other unforeseen glitches. The LAN has worked very well in this configuration, with fast file transfers among machines and good stability.
    With my old 802.11g G4 iBook, I was able to watch DVDs that are stored on an external FW drive connected to the Mini. No stalls, no pauses, no dropouts - MenuMeters showed an average throughput of about 700KBytes/sec on the iBook when viewing a DVD. I used both VLC and DVD Player with good results.
    With my new MacBook, I can't view my DVD files. 802.11g network transfer rates to the MB (indicated by MenuMeters and by Activity Monitor) vary rapidly from a high of about 1.1 MBytes/sec to 20 KBytes/sec. Movies stall, skip, etc.
    Simple file copies from one system to another are also much slower with the MacBook - an average of ~100KBytes/sec vs. ~ 1.5 MBytes/sec with my old iBook. In short, the MacBook is dog-slow in file transfers from the other machines compared with my old iBook when using the wifi connection, with no change to the network infrastructure in going from the old laptop to the new. I would like to fix this.
    My AEB is set up in bridge mode (simple access point) with WPA2 security. All three Macs are completely current with latest updates, as is the Snow AEB. The MB has 4 bars of signal strength. Slow file transfer problem does not change when moving the MB to or from the AEB.
    Curiously, when I download a large file (like the Intel 10.4.9 combo update), the MB shows a steady ~800KBytes/sec download speed, with none of the speed variation it shows with file transfers from either the Mini or the G5. File transfers to/from the MB to either of the other Macs are very slow.
    Both the Mini and the G5 have Airport cards: when I switch them from wired Ethernet LAN to wifi LAN, they transfer files between each other at ~ 2MBytes/sec - about what you'd expect from an 802.11g protocol. So the slow file transfer doesn't seem to be due to the AEB, it seems to be specific to the MacBook. When I connect the MB using its hardware Ethernet port, files transfer just as fast as the other systems.
    I have tried these measures, without effect on the problem:
    - power off/restart of every component in the system;
    - changing the AEB to an open network mode;
    - changing the MB from static IP to DHCP;
    - toggling IPv6 on/off;
    - running no applications other than Finder on all systems;
    Activity Monitor on the MB doesn't show anything sucking up CPU cycles during file transfers. I have plenty of RAM. The only thing I've changed in the network is the swap of the iBook for the MacBook.
    Can anyone suggest what else I can try to make acquisition of this nice shiny MacBook a step forward, rather than a step back? Thank you!

    Hi,
    Did you want to use the Live Migrations for that?
    We recommend that you configure separate dedicated networks with gigabit or faster speed for live migration traffic and cluster communication, and these networks should be separate from the network used by the management operating system, and from the network
    used by the virtual machines.

  • IChatAV and file transfer over wireless network

    Hi there...
    I'd like to let you in on my predicament. Firstly, a bit of background.
    I decided to buy my folks an old iMac from eBay in Australia - and pay for their broadband connection - so that I could video chat to them from the UK, and they could see my 5 year old son for the first time in 4 years. Cute, eh?
    Well, everything was working fine until I decided to go wireless in my home about 3 months ago. I have a static IP address, and purchased a nice new Airport Express to integrate into the system. I allocated my G5 iMac it's own network address (10.0.1.2), and the base station the master address (10.0.1.1). From there, the base station communicates to the router via the static IP... Sound ok?
    Anyway - NOW (or, for as long as I can recall), I CANNOT for the life of me send files over the connection. Video chat and audio chat are fine (although OCCASIONALLY it takes a few goes to be able to see THEM on my computer - I think their bandwidth isn't THAT stable at 512Kbps down and 128Kbps up) - however, the correct ports have been unblocked on the OSX firewall AND the Airport Express base station.
    And just so that you know it's not the folks' fault - I can't send documents/images over the network to friends I KNOW are competent (or, at least more competent than my parents!). There's always an error message at the receiver's end, and the file I'm attempting to send just times out.
    Has anyone any suggestions as to how I might be able to resolve this problem before I expire from old age?!?
    Your thoughts are REALLY appreciated!

    Hi Ralph
    I can see where that might be the case, but file transfer worked flawlessly BEFORE I went wireless using the same modem. The only way to unblock ports on my router is to turn NAT off - it creates a DMZ, so it permits unhindered 2-way traffic...
    It's a pretty confusing piece of kit. Maybe I should just get a Netgear anyway!
    I have a laptop on the wireless network as well, and file transfer works a treat between it and the iMac. All I can think of is that because I'm now working on a LAN, there's a blockage to get out to the "Real World" - even though it's easy for video to pass through.
    I'll check my unblocked ports again, just to be sure. I'm unfamilar with the term "Jabber" - is that what Apple decided to call one of the elements of iChat? Excuse my ignorance...!

  • 575 LRE and data transfer problems

    575 LRE and data transfer problems
    Hello,
    I have a connection from my provider using the Cisco 575 LRE, configured for 10 Mbit/s. I don't know the make and model of the switch but I assume it is likely a Cisco device also.
    I'm experiencing problems with the LRE connection whenever big files are being transfered simultaneously in both down- and upstream directions to/from a PC. The data transfer may slow down to a stall and all WAN connectivity may become momentarily blocked. Transfer speeds and reliability always seem good as long as big files don't get transferred in both directions at the same time.
    What could cause this problem? My service provider says that they see no problems in their end and they are unable to help me. I don't know how extensively they have looked into any possibility of problems though.
    I've tried different 100Mbit network cards, replacing ethernet and phone cabling and changing duplex settings and MTU, but nothing has completely solved the problem so far. Forcing network cards to full-duplex does prevent the worst slowdown and hanging described above, but limits upload speed to around half of the maximum available.
    Not sure if this is meaningful here, but my service provider claims they have the switch my CPE is connected to configured for full-duplex, but when I have a PC network card set to autonegotiation, it will always result in a 100baseTX half-duplex link with the 575 - this is the case where I get maximum speed in either one direction but also the mentioned problems with bi-directional transfer.
    I don't know what more I can do to the PCs here to solve this problem and I don't have access to configuring the CPE device, because I don't own the switch it is connected to. I can only think of trying to ask my ISP to read this thread if someone has a possible solution that requires actions on their behalf.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    The problem, as you describe it, is most likely cabling ...it could be the cable between your PC(s) and the 575 (most likely), or between the 575 and the switch.
    What you are seeing are the effects of crosstalk (signal from one pair interfereing with the other pair), that's why you see it in full-duplex mode and not (so much) in half-duplex (with half-duplex, only one side talks at a time).
    The only part you would be likely be able to change would be the connections on your side of the 575 ... so, try another cable; preferably a store-bought cable and in good shape (twisted, crushed, kinked, stretched, and poorly constructed cables are a Very Bad Thing).
    LRE was designed to handle voice-grade cabling, but if you're at near the extreme length, you may see some degradation.
    Good Luck
    Scott

  • Creative Zen USB and File transfer probl

    Am the unhappy owner of a brand new Creative Zen touch 20gb mp3 player which apparently works with usb 2.0. After installing the software which came on the cd (file transfer software and nomad explorer) the Zen appears to get recognised by the pc with no problems when i connect via the usb cable. The Zen also displays 'docked' which is all very well. However if i select say 0 tracks to download to the player the xp progress bar seems to halt at around 60-70% and eventually the program (nomad) complains that the operation cannot be completed. I noticed that the small hard dri've in the player feels as though it is 'spinning down' around a similar time to the message being displayed. If at this stage i refresh the players view in nomad explorer it can be found with no problem....its just i cant write to it until i unplug the usb from the zen and reconnect. I spoke to creative who told me that because my pc (in system devices) reports that my usb is an 'open host' adapter...this means it cannot supply adequate power to the player....but surely USB2.0 is USB2.0 and if something claims to be USB2.0 compliant that would be the end of the story? The usb card im using is a usb 2.0 pci card and is also pretty new. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    I have tried various usb ports, usb and2 conections ( I have both), various cables and combinations and the same happens. I have also tried win xp and win98, and other disks I have with the same result. I have managed to transfer 20 os so mp3s (a small proportion of those I have been trying to transfer)after 3-4 hours hard labour but never the contents of a full folder. After a proportion of the files are transferred then Zen touch becomes 'busy' or 'not connected'. Obviously there is no way I can continue like this and it will have to go back.
    I have tried the slightly newer driver but this did not work at all and I had to roll back to the one that came on the CD. I feel that I have given it a fair shot trying all the workarounds.
    Is is a USB power problem? Should a powered usb hub cure it's If so why?
    But is this surely is Creative's problem. It is obviously a known issue but what are they doing about it's Putting out Zens which are prone to this problem is not good practice. Any solutions out there?

    Hey,
    If you tried it on a friend's computer and you're still having problems then it may be a problem with the Zen. Before you call or e-mail tech support, here is what they will tell you do to first before they really get in depth with helping you. Go into Rescue Mode (there is an explanation on how to do this at the top of the forum) and do a disk clean up. After that, try it. If that doesn't work then click the reload OS option which will take the firmware (like windows to your PC) off the Zen. Don't worry you can easily put it back on. Go to Support>Downloads>select Zen Touch, etc, etc. and download the latest firmware and run it. Hopefully that will fix it....
    I had some connection problems myself with my ZT as soon as I got it as well. and simply reflashing the firmware fixed and now I love my Zen. I hope everything works out for you.

    On FileZila click on the User Accounts Icon. The dialog box will show you  defined users. By default only anonymous is created.
    So you need to create a local ftp username and passowrd. Then assign it a home directory under shared folders. This will be the dfault location a remote clietn will look for files and where you would find the ISE upgrade package, for example.

  • N96 PC file transfer problem

    Hi, I have just bought a brand new N96 few days ago. Everything was fine at first but when I tried to transfer files from PC to phone using latest version of Nokia PC Suite i ran into problems. File transfer just freezes in the middle of the transfer and a message says something like "connection to the phone lost" . This does not happen all the time, sometimes i transfer e.g 2 songs and on third it freezes. It happens also while installing *.sis files, and transfering images, videos, etc.
    Message Edited by casualiis on 23-Nov-2008 05:26 PM

    I hope you are using the usb cable!
    for transferring a large number of files to the handset, it is a LOT quicker to put the n96 into 'mass storage' mode.
    open the menu, open tools, open connectivity and select USB. change the usb mode to mass storage.
    once you have reconnected the handset, it will appear as drives under my computer.
    dont use PC suite when in mass storage mode, as it wont work correctly (and it will moan at you)
    NOTE: you will now need to unplug the phone from the computer using 'safely remove hardware' that is next to the clock in windows, or you will end up damaging data.
    also, if you still cant transfer files to the computer in this way, you might have to do a disk check.
    mass storage mode is a lot quicker than pc suite mode!
    Give it a go, and report back!

  • Firewire File Transfer Problem/  Dual Drive G4 to iMac

    Bought a new iMac. My old G4 (OSX10.3.9) has two internal HDs (30Gb & 40GB <my startup>) but only 30Gb drive shows up in target mode. Can't mount 40 Gb drive on iMac desktop to do file transfer when G4 is in "Target" mode? Called Apple "help" and was told to connect FW cables with a "Powered FW hub". No luck! Only 30GB shows up (Disk 0) and 40Gb (Disk 1) doesn't mount! Any suggestions?
    Louie ([email protected])

    Mike and Karn
    Thank you both for your helpful and knowledgeable suggestions. Earlier this afternoon, I took my G4 to a local Mac store where the tech fixed the "problem" in 5 minutes for NO CHARGE. He just moved jumpers making the hard drive I wanted to use as a "target" now readable and the other as the slave. I have busily been transferring stuff to my new iMac.
    Too bad the "Applecare" telephone "tech" which I waited well over an hour to speak with a few days ago did not the simple and correct answer but instead told me to by a "powered firewire hub"!!
    Thanks, Louie

  • Incoming file transfer problem

    Whenever I accept a file transfer from a friend, iChat freezes up and the rainbow wheel shows up. After a few seconds, my whole computer becomes agonizingly slow. Just switching between apps or waiting for the dock to appear can take around 5 seconds. I have to force quit iChat and wait for my computer to calm down a bit before opening iChat back up. After I re-open it, I'm able to accept the file transfer immediately without trouble. However if I accept a file transfer later on, the same problem occurs.
    I've looked around, but haven't been able to find any information about this problem. Help is much appreciated.

    In iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings what port is iChat logging on to the AIm servers with ?
    If it is port 5190 log out of AIM and try port 443

  • Bluetooth File Transfer Problem with Video Clips -...

    Hello!
    I am posting this problem even though a similar one is claimed to be solved ...
    I have a similar Problem with BT video clip file transfer in my E5-00 as someone had earlier with music files (SW up to date). Except that in this case the files are unique video clips received from one of the latest Samsung Android phones via Bluetooth (don't ask me which format).
    Tried the obvious first, using Windows File Manager over USB. Even Windows Search could not locate the files, not even using wildcards.
    Also tried using Ovi Suite Syncronisation, but the files did not appear in either Photos/Videos or Messages (even though the files are in the SMS Inbox - does not make sense why).
    The problem in applying the solution approach presented here for Music seems to be that the files cannot be played at all in my E5-00's. Therefore I don't get as far as to the menu where the E5 would ask whether or not the files should be saved or not.
    So far I have not been able to connect to an old bluetooth laptop (Windows XP) so that the Bluetooth Exchange would connect let alone seen whether the BTexchange works in this case or not.
    Is there any other chance of getting to the files through the directory structure? If so, please give me the (Windows) directory path? Any other advice than switching to Android?

    Unfortunately I have reached an impasse.  If I touch a video clip (in organizer) the system crashes.  I mean locked up cold. I'm not sure what has caused this but I do know that I will not be able to communicate correctly or sufficiently with you in order for you to help me out.
    I've found PS and Premier to be very difficult to work with.  Very, very frustrating.  Photography, both still and video, is not as enjoyable as it once was.
    Again, I very much appreciate your initial help and if I get to a point where I've improved my situation ... I'll reach out again.  Thanks

  • Large file transfer problems over client/server socket

    Hi,
    I wrote a simple chat problem in which I can send files from client to client. The problem is when I send large files over 101 MB the transfer freezes. I do not even get any error mesages in the console. The files I am sending are of any type (Ex mp3, movies, etc...). I am serializing the data into a "byteArray[packetSize]" and sending the file packet by packet until the whole file has been sent, and reconstructed on the other side. The process works perfectly for files smaller than 101MB, but for some reason freezes after that if the file is larger. I have read many forums and there aren't too many solutions out there. I made sure to use the .reset() method to reset my ObjectOutputStream each time I write to it.
    Here's my file sending code:
    byte[] byteArray = new byte[defaultPacketSize];
    numPacketsRequired = Math.ceil(fileSize / defaultPacketSize);
    try {
    int i = 0;
    reader = new FileInputStream(filePath);
    while (reader.available() > 0) {
    if (reader.available() < defaultPacketSize) {
    byte[] lastPacket = new byte[reader.available()];
    reader.read(lastPacket);
    try {
    if (socket == null || output == null) {
    throw new SocketException("socket does not exist");
    output.writeObject(lastPacket);
    output.reset();
    output.writeObject("DONE");
    output.reset();
    output.close();
    socket.close();
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Exception ***: " + e);
    output.close();
    socket.close();
    else {
    reader.read(byteArray);
    try {
    if (socket == null || output == null) {
    throw new SocketException("socket does not exist");
    output.writeObject(byteArray);
    output.reset();
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Exception ***: " + e);
    output.close();
    socket.close();
    reader.close();
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("COULD NOT READ PACKET");
    Here's my file receiving code:
    try {
    // The message from the client
    Object streamInput;
    FileOutputStream writer;
    byte[] packet;
    while (true) {
    streamInput = input.readObject();
    if (streamInput instanceof byte[]) {
    packet = (byte[]) streamInput;
    try {
    writer = new FileOutputStream(outputPath, true);
    writer.write(packet); //Storing the bytes on file
    writer.close();
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Exception: " + e);
    else if (streamInput.equals("DONE")) {
    socket.close();
    input.close();
    break;
    catch (Exception e) {
    I'm looking for any way I can possibly send large files from client to client without having it freeze. Are there any better file transfer ways other than socket? I don't really want FTP. I think I want to keep it HTTP.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.Thanks!
    Evan

    I've taken a better look a the code you posted, and
    there is one problem with the receiving code. You
    keep repeatedly opening and closing the
    FileOutputStream. This is not going to be efficient
    as the file will keep needing to be positioned to its
    end.Yes sorry I did change that code so that it leaves the file open until completely done writing. Basically I have a progress bar that records how far along in the writing process the client is, and when the progress bar reaches 100%, meaning the file is complete, the file.close() method is invoked. Sorry about that.
    I also ran some memory tests using the "Runtime.getRuntime().totalMemory()", and "Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory()" methods. I put these methods inside the loop where I read in the file and send it to the client. here's the output:
    Sender's free memory: 704672
    File reader read 51200 bytes of data.
    767548 left to read.
