Calc issue

My Net Sales is stored with 123Entity, 456Channels and for various Locations. The Net Sales is aggregated at Total_Locations, my "ABC %" is entered in forms at 123Entity, 456Channels and NOLocation.
When I run my calculation at TOTALLocation.
ABC $ = Net Sales * ABC %
It does not give me the desired result, what am I doing wrong?

I could figure out that I am entering data at NOLocation and extracting data at various Locations and aggregating at Total_Location.
I changed the formula and using the cross-dimension in the formula. With FIX being on TotalLocation
ABC $ = Net Sales * ABC %->NoLocation
The rule gets validated and deployed, but gives an error in running the rule. Any pointers?

Dynamic Calc Issue - CalcLockBlock or Data Cache Setting

We recently started seeing an issue with a Dynamic scenario member in our UAT and DEV environments. When we tried to reference the scenario member in Financial Reports, we get the following error:
Error executing query: The data form grid is invalid. Verify that all members selected are in Essbase. Check log for details.com.hyperion.planning.HspException
In SmartView, if I try to reference that scenario member, I get the following:
The dynamic calc processor cannot allocare more than [10] blocks from the heap. Either the CalcLockBlock setting is too low or the data cahce size setting is too low.
The Dynamic calcs worked fine in both environments up until recently, and no changes were made to Essbase, so I am not sure why them stopped working.
I tried to set the CalcLockBlock settings in the Essbase.cfg file, and increases the data cache size. When I increases the CalcLockBlock settings, I would get the same error.
When I increased the data cache size, it would just sit there and load and load in Financial Reporting and wouldn't show the report. In SmartView, it would give me an error that it had timed out and to try to increase the NetRetry and NetDelay values.

I tried to double the Index Cache Setting and the Data Cache setting, but it appears when I do that, it crashes my Essbase app. I also tried adding the DYNCALCCACHEMAXSIZE and QRYGOVEXECTIME to essbase.cfg (without the Cache settings since it is crashing), and still no luck.

I had already had those values set on my client machine, I tried to set them on the server as well, but no luck.
The exact error message I get after increasing the Cache settings is"Essbase Error (1042017) Network error: The client or server timed out waiting to receive data using TCP/IP. Check network connections. Increase the olap.server.netConnectTry and/or olap.server.netDealy values in teh essbase. proprieties. Restart the server and try again"

Essbase Defrag and Calc Issue

I have a calcscript will runs against a BSO cube with 11 dimensions and it runs for 15 mins. The script does some calculations and rollups (AGG and CALC DIMS etc). I can see the blocks go from 15k blocks to 500k blocks at the end.
And then when I re-run the script, it runs for over 2 hours and of course it's due to the block explosions and all. And so, I do a defrag and clear upper blocks by doing a:
CLEARBLOCK UPPER;
CLEARBLOCK EMPTY;
After this the number of blocks goes way down to 25k blocks.
And still the calc continues to run over 2 hours. So my question is why this behavior? Is there anything I can do besides reloading the cube from scratch? I know if I do a complete clear it obviously runs the same timing again. But I want to be able to not have to do that. Is there a step I am missing?

Here are some tips:
- please review "intelligent calculation" - this feature helps when only a few blocks are changed to limit the recalculation to affected blocks
- your index cache may be to low - index has grown with number of blocks beyond your index cache size -> more disk IO than your setup can handle
- overall design needs tuning (block size / density / dynamic calculations / ...) -> contact a consultant
- what is the business case for 10 min calc time limit? Will users wait for calculation to finish?

BPC- Goodwill calc issue

We have tagged 4 accounts as SHCAP in TYPELIM property of account dimension.We are using this SHCAP as source account in one of our business rules, the system is considering only 3 accounts out of the 4 and completly ignoring the amount uploaded in the fourth account. We have tried following to resolve the issue.
1. We tried clearing the data of all four accounts and uploaded them again
2. We tried creating a new ID in the account dimension for the fourth account and tagged with SHCAP in TYPELIM
3. We tried changing the datasource of the fourth account

Hi,
Was this property value entry done in the admin client, or in the NW backend? If it is the former, please check in RSA1 to make sure that the value is there as the front/back ends can sometimes be out of sync. Typically this is with 7.5 SP07/SP08....incidentally, what SP are you on?
A few other things to do/check:
- Is the 4th dimension member after an empty row in the dimension sheet? NW does not like empty rows
- Is there any logic/business rules at all happening immediately before this calculation is attempting to take place? It could be that the data is not in the correct source location for the logic to work
- Go into logic tester transaction (UJKT), enter a SELECT statement that looks for all accounts with the property value SHCAP, then when you execute (simulate), the right-hand side should show the list of 4 accounts. If it is in this list then I don't think it's a problem with the member/property

Parallel Calc Issue

We are currently running 6.5.1 on our NT server and have encountered inconsistencies in our aggregations when using the parallelcalc settings. We have two processors and are trying to use both of them in the calc. Has anyone run into a similar problem? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Rich, I agree, we are using 6.5.3, and parallel calc is kicking butt. When I originally benchmarked parallel calc with 6.5.1, I was disappointed with the results. In all cases, serial calcs were running faster. As far as Hyperion's recommendation that you leave one processor free for the os and for thread distribution, I suggest that users test different configurations. We have found that using all four processors on our 4-way boxes yield the best calc times, four processors are close to 20% faster on average than just 3 processors. Jeff McAhren Dallas, Texas

Formula in FR

Hi All,
I am really experiencing very wiered kind of behaviour from Hyperion FR in terms of Formulas.I am simply applying Sum of 2 rows with Sum(row[1],row[2]) and it is showing me Error in the cell however Formula is correct.
Also When I open the report for the first time none of the formula seems to work,for the second time some of it shows me the value and for the third time all comes up correctly.
Any insights on the above said behaviour.

I've seen weird calc issues when either:
- the rows being calculated are below the formula row,
- or the cells values are #missing and cause text errors when calculated.
You could also try writing the calculation as:
row[1,2].sum
This is better syntax - using the . property and faster too!

@XREF not transferring data

I am trying to transfer data from source to target where target has the following dims:Time (dense),version (dense),Year (dense),Product (sparse) and Hierarchy (sparse)the source: Time (dense),Measures (dense),version (dense), Year (dense), Product (sparse) and Hierarchy (sparse)the dimensions are the same except for the Measures dim which appears in source and not target. My calc command is:"Total Assets" = @XREF(FundsProfitdb,"Total Assets","Funds Profit");where Funds Profit is the measure in the source db. I get no values on the target db after running this. Any ideas?

I assume the Total Assets member in the target is part of a dense dimension - if it is, the issue could be block creation related.If the target database starts out empty, this calculation will not create blocks for you. Depending on what you are trying to transfer, there are a couple of solutions:1) Use the @XREF calculation after you load the target cube with some initial values. This will create blocks which the calculation can then populate with some values from the source2) Re-arrange the formula to place a sparse dimension member on the left hand side of the formula. This approach may not be practical, based on your database config. is there any limitation with calc manger and substitution variables?

FDM:Issue with Launching Essbase agg calc cript after FDM load complete

Hi experts ,
I am using a upshell batch to run FDM custom VB script to process 12 months data file which is running fine. All level 0 data is sucessfully loaded into Essbase.
But now the problem is to launch Agg calc scipt in Essbase. I tried 2 options but having following issues:
1-
If i am giving Agg script name in Validation entity and runs the load Up-To-Consolidate then FDM runs that agg script after each month load (ie: 12 times) but i just want to run that agg script after complete 12 months data load from FDM to Essbase.
Is there any way i can set Calc script to run after all data is loaded in Essbase ?
2-
If i call tha Essbase batch (which call MaxL to run the calc script) in AftLoad event script then again script is running 12 times after each load. Can you please suggest if i can modify the VB code with IFcondition here ? (ie: IF period is 12 then call \\Essbase server\***\.Batch) ? If possible please provide the sample code as i am new to VB ?

I guess you are using Batch Loader from your custom script??
Then you could use BatchAction to execute your maxl batch when the batch processing finishes.
In that way you would have only one execution after your 12 period file is processed.
I would suggest having a look to "Batch-Load Single Multiload File (Up To Check) Process" section in the FDM API Guide.
If your file is Multiload file you could also use MultiLoad Action Script.
For example, for multiload action you could say something like:
If Month(objLSItem.PstrTBPer) = 12 Then
That code checks period being processed is December (in case you load from Jan to Dec)

Calc script prompt issue in workspace

Hello Gurus,
This issue is related to running Calc scripts from EPM Workspace 11.1.2.2.300.
Browser : IE8/IE9
We are facing an issue where users are able to run CALC from workspace successfully.
But they are not getting prompt as CALC XYZ ran successfully.
The browser just keeps showing CALC XYZ is processing. If we check in logs, its shows Calc has already completed its execution.
Can this happen if we have a slow network? Or is it a bug as the calc seems to be completing on the required time in the background (when checking logs) but the front process keeps going on.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Yes we are on planning 11.1.2.2.300
Following is what happens --
<li> We open workspace and login to a planning application.
<li> We navigate to the Business Rules from Tools.
<li> We then run the Calc script from within Workspace for that application
What happens is the calc should be running for ~ 3 mins (it runs for approx same time when we check the logs) however the workspace keeps showing that it is still in progress even if it exceeds ~10 mins, giving us a feel that the calc is still running which is not the case as the log file has the appropriate time when it completed.
We then have to manually close the UI which shows that the calc is still running as it had already completed.
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Calc Manager Template issue

I have an issue creating templates in Calc Manager. I can open it in Graphical mode, but I dont see an option in edit tab to convert it into script mode.
Any inputs on this?

The script mode of templates are not supported as it can have DTP consitions that drive the generation of the script and hence can not be converted to script.
You can create a template and drop a script component and write all your script there.

Calc All issue

Hi All,
I donno, normally how long it will take to run CALC ALL on a medium size data base. For me it takes for ever. Until now I never completed CALC All script successfully. Some times I waited for 8 hrs or more than that, I didn't see Calc all completed successfully message. Did anybody has this issue. Any help will be really appreciatable. I am really stuck here. Please give me some really good suggestion on this. Thanks in advance.

There are many best practices , but ensure that your design part of the cube is perfect.
Coming to the calculation part , if you are doing incremental data load , then use fix in the calculation script
for ex; if you are loading data for the month of Mar08 to your already existing cube , then
FIX (marc08)
cal all
--correct syntax, OK
this way , you are not redndantly calculation for other part of the database.
Secondly, take care of few members ,which have formulas.If you can make few as Dynamic calcs,then they wont participate in the caluclation ,rather those member formulas come active ,when a user retrieves.
These are very few of them.

Business Rule calc manager issue while executing through Planning Smartview

Hi,
I am working on Hyperion Planning 11.1.2 and I have created few business rule in Calc manager. When user is opening it through Hyperion Planning webforms its working fine.
I have attached the rules on webform and they run on Save and use member on data form and Hide prompts.
All these properties are checked. So user enter the number on Planning webform and hit on save rule will cruch on the POV members.
Please help me on below 2 issues:
1.When user is using the Smartview Planning and opening webform in Smartview while exceuting the rule its throwing error. Can't run the rule.
What is the exact provsiong I need to give so that they can execute it from the Hyperion Smartview Planning also.
Currently HBRAPP is Interactive user
and Application level is Interactive user and Essbase write access
If I am giving Administrator access they are bale to run the rule, I can't give Administartor acess.
2.While running rule even with admin access its not taking the POV, its taking the default mebers which I have given while creating the variables.
However from Planning web it takes the POV selection of webform,
Please suggest why the same thing is not happening from Hyperion Smartview.

Subtotal issue when subtotaling on a calc field built using CASE function

Okay, I hpe I can explain this well. May be possible that this is something cannot handle in Discoverer. I am using Discoverer Plus to develop a new workbook - cross project expenditure inquiry. A requirement is to not allow a worksheet user to see labor cost (since possible to figure out someone's salary) amount unless they are allowed to view labor cost. I have a function that returns a Y/N value that tells me if they can view labor cost. That works out just fine. So what I am doing is taking my database cost column (which is defined as Number(22,5) in the Oracle table. I create a new calculated column, basically like this -
CASE WHEN expenditure type <> LABOR THEN cost WHEN view labor cost = 'Y' THEN cost ELSE NULL END.
That calculated column is working just fine. I am seeing my desired results in that column. Okay so far.
Next, the users want subtotals by project organization and project. So I created a new total. When I did that, my subtotal row amount is blank.
Okay, I have seen this happen with NULLS before. Like in the gl_je_lines tables, where the accounted_Dr and accounted_Cr may be null, and have to do a NVL function to convert the null to 0 and allow me to subtotal on the column in a Discoverer workbook.
So I tried creating a second calculation -
NVL(Cost,0)
So I return the cost if not null, otherwise I return 0. Second calc column results look okay.
Now I did a subtotal on the second calculation. Oops. Wrong result. Amount is shown as 0.
For grins, I went back to my CASE statement on my first calculation and changed the ELSE condtion from NULL to 0. When I did that, the subtotal on that column changes from a blank (Null) value to a 0 value. Well, better, but still just like my second calculation subtotal.
Obviously the users have the option to export to Excel and subtotal in Excel.
Does anyone know of a way to get a good subtotal in this kind of situation, where I am attempting to subtotal on a calculated field that is built on a CASE function? Or am I out of luck when it comes to Discoverer?

Okay, I did find a workaround, though I do not understand why the workaround works, but why the way I first tried to get a subtotal did not work. What I did is that I had to go to Discoverer Administrator. I picked my folder and did an Insert/Item. I created my new item building the same CASE statement that I used in my worksheet to create a new calculation. I then closed Discoverer Plus and reopened Discoverer Plus. Opened my worksheet. Edited the worksheet and brought in my new (derived) item from my folder. Then I created my subtotals for this secured cost amount. Voila. I get a number now, and the subtotal amount appears to be correct (still testing/verifying, but looks okay so far). So I deleted my subtotals on my calculated column and then deleted the calculation, to get that stuff out of the report. Sure would be nice if there was documentation in the Discoverer manuals about this.

Jexport CDF issue with Calc Manager

I have JEXPORT function which works fine as a essbase calc script.But when I try to validate in Calc Manager using EPMA Hyperion 11.1.1.3 ,It gives error
'Error:Unable to resolve UDA,attribute member or dimension member with value,name or type "" rule Capex.Capex.CAP_Jexport'
Note :It is a EPMA Application.
Can we not use CDF in calc manager fro EPMA?
