Calculated key figures before aggregation

Hi,
I'm having trouble creating a new calculated key figure. Here's the situation.
I have two key figures: stock, value A. Now I want to create a new calculated key figure (in 3.x) using both key figures. The calculation would look something like: "stock * (value A == 0)". Now I want this key figure to work before aggregation. When creating this calculated key figure however I am unable to set the aggregation setting to before aggregation. Now, with any other key figure besides stock, this is no problem. Something like "profit * value A == 0)" works fine and I can set the aggregation setting to before aggregation. I suspect the reason I can't use stock in a calculated key figure set the calculate before aggregation is because of the exception aggregation of the stock key figure. It's set to last value in exception aggregation.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
Alex

Hi Alex,
please read this:

The reason that somtimes the propertie is available or not depends on the key figure type - e.g. if it is complex or not. I think that here is a lot of info available in the forum.

  • How to calculate key figure before aggregation for complex formular?

    Hi, buddies
    <b>Here's the simplified senario</b>:
I have a cube, in which the characteristics are 'Calendar Day' and 'Hour' (values are 01~24), and the key figures are stored by day and by hour.
What I need is very simple, a query to display calculated key figures only by Calendar Day. I don't need Hour information.
So I create a query: column charact is Calendar Day, rows are several calculated key figures.
    <b>Now the problem is that</b>:
if I don't put 'Hour' as row in the query, I'll get WRONG result. But if I put 'Hour' as row in the query, I'll get CORRECT result, but all the 'Hour' details will display, which should be hided.
<b>I know the reason is that</b>:
the calculated key figure that I create should be calucated before aggregation, not after. But since the formular is pretty complex, I can't change the 'Time of Aggregation Calculation' in key figure's property. (It's greyed out.) So I have to put 'Hour' as row in the query to force calcuation 'before aggregation' in query and set the property 'Calculate Result As...' as 'Summary'.
    <b>My question</b> is:
whether there's any other way to force calcuation 'before aggregation', so I don't have to put 'Hour' in the query.
If no, is there a simple way to hide the 'Hour' details and only display summary result ON THE QUERY LEVEL? (
<i>I can hide detail lines by using web template, or maybe using VB in excel. But I can't use either of them. I want to hide the details on the QUERY LEVEL. So I can use the query directly in any other reporting tools, like Visual Composer.</i>)
    Any idea?
    Wei

    Hi, Sudeepta
    Thanks for your reply.
I did try to set 'No display' for 'Hour'. The result is that the Characteristics 'Hour' doesn't appear on the query result, but the detailed line of key figures still display on the result. It looks like the followings: (I put summaries on the top/right)
    Date  1/1  1/2  Overall result
    KPI1    10        11   22  (sum line)
    KPI2    20        21   41  (sum line)
    KPI1    12        13   25  (detailed line)
    KPI2    13        13   26  (detailed line)
    KPI1    11        12   23  (detailed line)
    KPI2    12        12   24  (detailed line)
I want to suppress all the detailed lines and leave sum lines on the result.

  • Calculated key figures from multicubes before aggregation

    Hi,
I am calculating a total using a calculated key figure
that has one key figure from a multicube and two other key figures from another multicube.
Also I factor the total using a variable with a replacement path on the dummy attribute (Constant) to "force" the calculation at the material level.
    Cost = Cost(CUBE1) / Quantity(CUBE1) * Quantity(Cube2) * ZVRMATER1
    Problem:
If I split the calculation this works before aggregation at the material level. Also this works fine using calculations that use key figures that must be calculated before aggregation if they all are from the same cube at the time.  The required formula above will not work (zero divide) since during selection the OLAP processor retrieves in phases and with value 0 from the key figure of CUBE2.
Any suggestion on how to solve this without new back-end development?
    Thanks.

  • Exception Aggregation for a Calculated Key Figure in a Structure

    Hello BI world,
Please can someone tell me if it is technically possible to use "exception aggregation (count) in a calculated key figure within a structure.
The definition of the structure is:
    Rows: Characteristic (Selection) = Problem type (0CATCODE_FE)  = "AF01"
    Colums (Selections) Month 1 , Month 2, Month 3, etc .. Total
Details of the selection for each month
                           0CALMONTH = Variable (offset+1 for Month 2 , 3 etc)
                                   1KYFNM = CKF
    Calculated Key Figure (CKF) =
General Tab:  = Key Figure "0CAUSE_CNT"
Aggregation Tab - Exception Aggregation = Count All Values
Ref Characteristic = Problem type (0CATCODE_FE)
Calculation After Aggregation = not ticked
Local Calculations Tab = All "Nothing Defined"
What I am trying to achieve is the "count" of "Category codes"  for each month specified in the structure.
I have looked in the cube and there should be a "category Code" count of "9" for Jan 2008 for notifcation type AF01 but the query shows 0?
Thanks in advance, points will be awarded.
    Steve

Still not working? Not sure why? Have tried both answers and just not counting...
Is there any restrictions on using "exception aggregation" in a calculated key figures in a structure?
The structure is in the columns and it is a selection that includes the CKF with the exception aggregation plus a restriction on calendar month using a variable?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Exception aggregation for calculated key figure

Is it possible to have exception aggregation for calculated key figure in BW 3.5? As per Note 1151857, it is possible, however this note applies to BI 7.0.
As per note 152638, it is possible in older version only simple ckfs like 'CKF = Base key figure'.
Is there any workaround to define exception aggregation for complex CKFs in BW 3.5?
My requirement is like this -
CKF = (sales quantity - forecast) %share (sales quantity).
Aggregation for CKF over time should be sum whereas, for all other characteristics calculation of CKF should be done after aggregation(normal scenario).
So, defining exception aggregation of CKF as 'Summation' over time should fulfil my requirement.
I can not use calculate result as 'summation' setting for CKF because of following design of report.
    Report contains structure(characteristic)
    Elements of structure are -
    Last 3 months(April - June)
    Last 3 months - 1 (Mar - May)
    Last 3 months - 2 (Feb - Apr)
    and so on...
When data is aggregated for each element of structure, base KFs will be aggregated and calculations will be done on that.
Changes in the backend are also not possible because, normal aggregation of CKF-alike in backend will be summation for all characteristics.
Is there any way in BW 3.5 to model such a scenario?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Anup Kulkarni

Sum of individual values of CKFs is not same as the Calculation on 'sum of basic key figures(result of basic key figures)'.  - Yes, you are right.
I need to aggregate CKF over time as SUM. However, calculation for result of all other characteristics should be based on results of basic key figures and not the 'Sum of individual values of CKF'.  -
What i understood is that whenever the time char is in row, then result should be simple on the sum what ur getting but when other char are there then it should go for calculation based on the sum of key figure.
If im not wrong in getting ur point.
How can two differenct activites be perofrmed on same key figure depending on the characteristic .....!. For this u have to think some other possibility or let somebody else update the thread.

  • Error after upgrade: cannot calculate calculated key figure

    Hello Experts,
We've recently upgraded from 3.5 to 7.0. We have still a problem we don't know how to solve regarding some queries containing some CKF with "before aggregation".
When trying to open these queries in the new BEx 7.0 we get one warning and two errors:
    Warning:
Time of calculation "Before Calculation" is obsolete
    Errors:
    1. Cannot calculate calculated key figure "XXXX"
    2. Query "XXXX" could not be opened.
Searching the similar posts in this forum I've seen I could edit the queries and change before aggregation to exception aggregation and it should work in this way, but the problem is I cannot open the queries anymore.
Have you faced a similar problem?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Problem in Calculated Key Figure in BEx 7.0

    Hi All,
    In Bex 7.0
We have a requirement where we need to display a key figure which is having unit price of an Article. In our InfoProvider we have Article, Store and Date and the report is based on Article. As we have to display only the latest price we have created a RKF by putting a restrcition of the latest date in the date range on the the unit price key figure. But still unit price is getting aggregated over stores.
For example if there are 10 stores and the unit price of an article is 5, then data displayed is 50 and not 5.
We tried to create a Calculated Key Figure using the above RKF and an exception aggregation Average of all detailed value that are not zero, null or error on reference characteristic 0PLANT. Its working fine when the query is restricted to one or two Articles. But for all the articles it gives the following error messages.
    1. Error while reading data; navigation is possible.
    2. Error occurred during parallel processing of query 17; RC3
    3. Error executing physical plan: AttributeEngine: no 6952
    4. Error reading the data of infoprovider ZXMSC01$X
    5. Amount of data that is to be read from the BIA server is too large
    6. The following error 6952 occurred in BIA server
    7. Error executing physical plan: AttributeEngine: not enough memory;BwPopMerge pop1(setIsLastMerge(1)),in executor::Executor in cube: p03_zxmsc01
Can anyone tell me the solution for the above error. Or if there is a workaround to our requirement.
    Regards,
    Sachin

    Hi,
    Could be a memory issue.
One of your cube in on BIA which is causing the Problem.
So executing the query in RSRT by selecting Do not use BIA index option.
If the query is executed with out any issue then take the cube out of BIA and push it back.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards,
    Raghu
P.S : Also please let us know if this query is live and it is an issue that you are facing after executing it properly for few days.
Or this is a new query created and testing now and in the process got this error?

  • Calculated Key Figures - Result row sum is wrong

    Hello all,
Using the example below, I built a calculated key figure for TotalPrice (material amount * material price per unit).  I set TotalPrice to calculate the result as a "total".
OrderID OrderLineID MaterialID Quantity PricePerUnit    TotalPrice
    1                 1                1            1              5.00           5.00
    1                 2                2            1              3.00           3.00
    2                 3                1            2              5.00          10.00
    2                 4                2            1              3.00           3.00
    3                 5                2            3              3.00           6.00
    ResultRow:   -                 -            7            19.00          27.00
Now, if I remove OrderLineID and MaterialID drilldown (or from the query rows), I get the following (wrong) results for TotalPrice:
    OrderID Quantity PricePerUnit TotalPrice
    1                 2              8.00         16.00*
    2                 3              8.00         24.00*
    3                 3              3.00           9.00*
    ResultRow:  8             19.00         39.00*
    - wrong results
Is it possible to be able to remove the orderlineid and materialid fields from the query rows and still get correct results for TotalPrice?
    Thanks!
    -B

I solved the problem by adding an Exception Aggregation to the TotalPrice calculated Key Figure.
To be more specific, I added an Exception Aggregation (set it as type "Total"), then set the reference characteristic to OrderLineID.
As a result, the exception aggregation takes into consideration the orderlineID row when calculating the total price (quantity * priceperunit).  Therefore if you place the orderlineid in the free characteristics instead of the query row, the calculation is still performed correctly.

  • Calculated key figures Vs local formula

    HI,
I am having 4 queries on a cube.
i am now using calculated key figures instead of local formulae.
I want to know "which is better in performance wise/ or may be pros and cons of using each one."
    Can any one clarify me.
    I know that
1.when we select the option Calculation after aggregation will improve performance.
2.we can do some more things only with Cal. Key Figs using formula variable.
Here my concern is not that.
I am concerned about general case like -
i have to add, multiply or divide some direct key figures and use some data functions like nodim, NDIV0 functions.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Raghu

    Hi Raghu,
Formulas cannot be directly reused, but if they are saved to a global structure, then the structure may be reused. If you are creating a calculation that will be widely used, it is best to create it as global...this helps a lot when you need to revisit the definition, and make changes as one chnage is reflected in all queries.
However, there are some functions like SUMCT, SUMGT, SUMRT, %CT, %GT, %RT which are available only to the formulas (local), so if you need to use them, you cannot use a CKF.
In addition to the differences, A formula can only work on other formulas/selections already in your query (in the same structure as your new formula), while a calculated key figure can only work on other key figures, calculated key figures or restricted key figures. However both can use formula variables.
CKF are calculated at the time of loading data.
Your Formula calculates at the time of running the query.
    Hope this helps...
    Regards,
    Yokesh.

  • Can a Calculated key figure be derived from characteristic value?

    Hi,
I would like to know whether BW allows to derive a calculated key figure based on a characteristic value. Let us say we have a row like
    PLANT-DAY-INVENTORYQTY
and based on my plant value, I want to have another column 'CALCULATEDSCRAP' which is derived from 'PLANT' and INVENTORYQTY (I know this is a crude example, but will do for my need)
Is there any way in BW to get this logic implemented?
    Thanks,
    Ajay Das

    Hi Tom,
I have a very similar problem. In my if logic i compare to dates  but I don´t understand what you meen by
"Therefore I suggested to add an attribute to convert the characteristic in a number and use this number for the if logic."
For the moment, the condition calculates each field individualy correctly but doesn´t treat them as numbers when aggregating.
    Thanks in advance,
    Victor.

  • COPA calculated key figures and scheme on R/3 side

We have created calculated key figures on the R/3 side and inputted formula (which is essentially the scheme/basic formula in transaction KER1) for this key figure.  We then checked off this key figure in the COPA datasource.  These key figures are only adding and subtracting certain elements for a particular record.  In RSA3 on the R/3 side, this key figure is calculated correctly.  In BW, in the PSA, it's calculated correctly.  The problem is when it goes to the ODS.  It gets no values.  All 0's.
Does anyone have any ideas?  It's straight forward mapping and I'm thinking it's a bug, but wanted to check if there was anyone that had this problem before and some "hidden" config had to be done.
    Thanks,  Mark.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Calculated Key figure Complicated

    Experts,
I am struggling with the design of a report which requires the following fields
Payer      ShipTo     PH2     Year     Units     Price     Sales $     Price input
    HD     1234     1301     2006     16      $19.00       $304.00       $19.00
    Lowes     9999     1301     2006     100      $19.60       $1,960.00       $19.60
    Lowes     9999     1303     2006     300      $29.00       $8,700.00       $29.00
    HD     1234     1303     2006     200      $32.00       $6,400.00       $32.00
Above is what is directely coming for the cube. I need to calculate "Base Price" which is the average of "sales" by PH2. for example the report will like like following
Payer      ShipTo     PH2     Year     Units     Price     Sales $     Price input     Base_Price
    HD     1234     1301     2006     16      $19.00       $304.00       $19.00      1132     Sales Avg by PH2
    Lowes     9999     1301     2006     100      $19.60       $1,960.00       $19.60      1132     Sales Avg by PH2
    Lowes     9999     1303     2006     300      $29.00       $8,700.00       $29.00      7550     Sales Avg by PH2
    HD     1234     1303     2006     200      $32.00       $6,400.00       $32.00      7550     Sales Avg by PH2
Any thoughts on how I can do this...
    Help will be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Raj

    Hi Yashu,
Create Calculated Key figure on sales, and select properties od that CKF and on Exception aggregation select Average of all values <> 0, and exception chareteristcis as PH2.
    hope this helps

  • Using Explorer with Calculated Key Figures from BEx (BW 7.31 / BI 4.1)

I'm looking for suggestions on how to leverage data from calculated and restricted key figures in BEx (from a BW 7.31 system) with Business Objects Explorer (from a BI 4.1 system).  Our current process involves some complicated workarounds and with the implementation of BI 4.1 and I'm hoping to streamline things a bit.
Here is what I had in mind...
An information space (indexed daily) sitting on a universe (hopefully UNX) that referred to a BEx query on a multiprovider in BW.  My understanding was that universes would be able to consume BEx queries (including their restricted and calculated key figures) in 4.1.  Based on a recent post (http://scn.sap.com/thread/3417905), it appears that the feature that I was hoping for may have not made it into the GA release.  Obviously, I could move the calculations and restrictions into BW ETL or maybe into the universe, but since that work has already been done and lives in the queries, I'm hoping to use them!  Also, we could use a different tool such as WebI, but at this point the user base is comfortable with Explorer and we would like to continue to use it.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks!
    -S

    Hi McDowell,
Regarding to the BEx connection in Explorer, SAP provide two solution
    1. BWA connection
    2. Unv on top of connection
For the UNV situation, you could use the calculated / restricted key figure in the system but please assgin the aggregation level for them (Database delegate is not supported if I am not wrong)
    Also plese consider two points
    1. Data size (UNV cannot support large data size)
    2. Scheduling (Explorer does not support event trigger? correct me if I am wrong)
    Best regards

  • ELSEIF in calculated key figure

    Dear gurus
We have recently upgraded to NW2004s, and would need some help on the formula for my calculated key figure. This calculated key figure is meant to replicate IF... ELSEIF statement, depending on what the user enters. The logic that we have are as below :
IF Var=1, then display key figure A
ELSEIF Var=2, then display key figure B
ELSEIF Var=3, then display key figure C
ELSEIF Var=4, then display key figure D
where Var is a Formula Variable, Processing By User Entry/Default value.
The formula that we have originally, in BW3.5 is :
    <i>(Var == 1) * 'Amount in TC' + (Var== 2) * 'Amount in Comp Code' + (Var == 3) * 'Amount in Parall USD' + (Var == 4) * 'Amount in Hard Cur' </i>
This formula has served us well in BW 3.1 to BW 3.5, and never had any problems with it. However, when we migrated over to BW 7.0, we could not get values for this formula (eventhough we have data in our cubes). The only data that get is when we key in Var=1, but when we try with Var=2, 3 or 4, no data is displayed in our key figure.
We tried to debug, but somehow we could not figure out how the new BW7.0 calculates these type of key figures, and whether is there a change in the formula variable. We believe that the problem may lie in the way that BW 7.0 interprets the formula above, and only obtains the first portion of the formula (Var==1).
We would appreciate any helps, and of course, points will be awarded if problem can be solved.
    Thanks a lot

    Dear all
With some luck in searching, I manage to find an OSS note which depicts this error and resolve it. For those who have the same problem, please use this OSS Note 994194.
