Calculating a count of rows where value matches another column value in the same table

Hi,
I'm struggling to do something in DAX that seems to me should be super easy (coming from a SQL world)!
That is to count all rows in column 1 where the value matches the current value for column 1?
E.g something like this:
[Col2]=Count of rows in [Col1] where value = this.[Col1]
Where the results are as in the table below:
Col1, Col2
A, 2
A, 2
B, 1
Anyone?

Thanks, that's perfect!
I knew it had to be something so simple, but after spending over an hour banging my head against those exact functions I couldn't get anything working!

  • Get Min value and another column value from the same row

    hi all - for each customer and product, I need to grab the row that has the min value for field Value1. I could've just done group by on customer and product and min on Value1, but I also need to grab Vlaue2 from the same row where the minimum value for
    Value1 lies.
    DECLARE @Temp TABLE (CustomerID INT, ProductID VARCHAR(10), Trans_Date Date, Value1 INT, Value2 INT)
    INSERT INTO @Temp VALUES (123, 'ABC', '1/1/2013', 10, 100)
    INSERT INTO @Temp VALUES (456, 'ASD', '1/1/2013', 40, 500)
    INSERT INTO @Temp VALUES (456, 'ASD', '2/1/2013', 90, 700)
    INSERT INTO @Temp VALUES (123, 'ABC', '2/1/2013', 20, 700)
    SELECT * FROM @Temp
    The output should be
    123, ABC, 10, 100
    456, ASD, 40, 500
    I know that I can just join the table to itself and get the desired output but I am dealing with a table that has millions of rows and I was hoping there is more efficient way to do this. any help would be highly appreciated...

    Here is a correction on your DDL to make it into nearly valid table.
    CREATE TABLE Sales
    (customer_id INTEGER NOT NULL,
    product_id CHAR(10) NOT NULL,
    transaction_date DATE NOT NULL,
    PRIMARY KEY (customer_id, product_id, transaction_date),
    value1 INTEGER NOT NULL,
    value2 INTEGER NOT NULL);
    Here is the current syntax for insertion:
    INSERT INTO Sales
    VALUES (123, 'abc', '2013-01-01', 10, 100),
    (456, 'asd', '2013-01-01', 40, 500),
    (456, 'asd', '2013-02-01', 90, 700),
    (123, 'abc', '2013-02-01', 20, 700);
    WITH
    X
    AS
    (SELECT customer_id, product_id, transaction_date, value1, value2,
    MIN(value1) OVER () AS value1_min
    FROM Sales)
    SELECT X.*
    FROM X
    WHERE X.value1_min = X.value1;

  • Updating values with in the same table for other records matching conditions

    Hi Experts,
    Sorry for not providing the table structure(this is simple structure)
    I have a requirement where i need to update the columns of a table based on values of the same table with some empid and date  match. If the date and empid match then i have take these values from other record and update the one which is not having office details. I need the update query
    Before update my table values are as below
    Sort_num     Emp_id   office      start_date
    1                      101     AUS    01/01/2013
    2                      101                01/01/2013
    3                      101               15/01/2013
    4                      103     USA    05/01/2013
    5                      103               01/01/2013
    6                      103                05/01/2013

    9                      104                01/01/2013
    After update my table should be like below
    Sort_num     Emp_id   office      start_date
    1                      101     AUS    01/01/2013
    2                      101     AUS    01/01/2013
    3                      101               15/01/2013
    4                      103     USA    05/01/2013
    5                      103               01/01/2013
    6                      103    USA     05/01/2013
    7                      104     FRA    10/01/2013
    8                      104     FRA     10/01/2013
    9                      104                01/01/2013
    Thanks in advance

    I do not have time to create the table with data but basically you should be able to code the following
    update table a
    set office = ( select office from table b where b.emp_id = a.emp_id
                                                                 and     b.start_date = a.start_date
                                                                 and     b.office is not null
    where exists ( [same query as in set]  )
    and a.office is null
    I believe that will do the trick.

  • Use value from tabular form column in the LOV where clause of another column

    Hi
    Using APEX 4.2 on 11g
    In a tabular form I want to filter the values in a Popup Key LOV based on the value of another column (same row).
    i.e. I want to get the value of one column and use it in the where clause for the Popup LOV on the same row.
    e.g. where COL 2 is a popup LOV
    COL 1
    COL 2
    1
    LOV SQL: SELECT a FROM b WHERE c = <value from COL 1>
    2
    LOV SQL: SELECT a FROM b WHERE c = <value from COL 1>
    3
    LOV SQL: SELECT a FROM b WHERE c = <value from COL 1>
    The value in COL 1 does not change once the row is created. It is a hidden ID field.
    Is this possible?
    Nick

    Anyone have any ideas?
    I thought getting the value from one column and using it in another column would be commonly used functionality... I just can't seem to work it out.

  • Summing Selected Rows in Column Depending on Value in Another Column

    I'd like to sum only the values in selected rows in a given column depending on the value of another column in the same row. For example, suppose I have a table (please disregard the underscores, needed for correct alignment):
    ___A____B____C___D
    1__5___10___15___0
    2_20___25___30___1
    3_35___40___45___1
    4_50___55___60___0
    5__sum(D=1)
    In cell B5, I'd like to compute the sum of only rows in column B for which the value of the corresponding column D is 1. In this case B5 would be 65.
    How can I do this using functions? Is it possible to do it for a variable range of rows without specifying each row individually?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    You should place your formula to other collumn then calculated ones or in another table. You will be able to calculate whole collumns with: =SUMIF(D;“=1”;B)
    Formula for your example is: =SUMIF(D1:D4;“=1”;B1:B4)

  • Conditional inclusion of column cells based on value in another column?

    I was wondering if something like the following is possible -- I've looked through the forums and Numbers user guide but can't figure it out:
    Suppose I have a column A of sales figures, and columns B and C which basically have different attributes (say, color (yellow or green), size (small or large), and material (cotton or polyester)).
    I want to run basic statistics on various combinations: e.g. all yellow items regardless of size, all green cotton items regardless of size, all large yellow items regardless of material, etc.
    I want to be able to specify something like this:
    'Compute the average of every cell in column A where column B=="green" and column C=="large"'
    Is there a good way to go about doing this? Would I want to attack the problem using categories, sorting, and multiple tables? Or is there a way to conditionally include cell values from a range based on the value of that row's cell in another column?
    Thanks for any help.

    All I can think of to solve the quartile and median functions is to have another table of the same size as your original table that gets populated with just the items that match. Then you can do the quartile and median (and average) on that table. It's a one-at-a-time affair; you can only do one selection of size, color, and/or material at a time but you can get the median, mean, and quartiles of it. Of course, you could have multiple copies of this second table if you want to do more than one comparison at a time.
    In the attached file, unhide the hidden rows in Table 2 to see the formulas that do all the work.

    A standard disclaimer, the mutating trigger error is telling you that you really, really, really don't want to be doing this. It generally indicates a major data model problem when you find yourself in a situation where the data in one row of a table depends on the data in another row of that same table. In the vast majority of cases, you're far better off fixing the data model than in working around the problem.
    If you are absolutely sure that you cannot fix the data model and must work around the problem, you'll need
    - A package with a collection (or global temporary table) to store the keys that are modified
    - A before statement trigger that initializes the collection
    - A row-level trigger that adds the keys that were updated to the collection
    - An after statement trigger that iterates over the data in the collection and updates whatever rows need to be updated.
    If you're on 11g, this can be simplified somewhat by using a compound trigger with separate before statement, row-level, and after statement sections.
    Obviously, though, this is a substantial increase in complexity over the single trigger you have here. That's one of the reasons that it's generally a bad idea to work around mutating table exceptions.

  • ITunes match tracks different volumes from the same album

    Using iTunes Match.  Among other reported problems, after downloading Matched tracks to my master iTunes library to replace lower bitrate versions, the new tracks from the same album have different loudness or volumes between the tracks.  Is this because iTunes Match is matching the songs to different versions of the same album?  Where some albums have been 'remastered' or such, that the recorded volume between the albums is different?  But instead of matching tracks to the same version of the album, some are being matched to different versions of the same album?
    Quite offputting to listen to a single album where track to track loudness changes suddenly.
    PS, I'm not using SoundCheck on my Mac.

    Same problem here. I'm an "album" kind of music fan and when I'm listening matched albums that the sound quality and voulme changes I get really put off. Case in point B-52's self-titled album: tracks 1,2, 5 & 7, nice and loud; 3, 4, 6, 8 & 9 tiny sounding in comparison...Hello?  So far iTunes Match is not worth my money. I'd like to hear form an Apple iTunes Match repersentative to know if this issue will be resolved. As it is, is not very useful. Please fix the problem. Also many of my albums show that a track or a few will not be matched but uploaded to the cloud which means more of my albums will be spotty sounding as tracks will have different bit rate, etc. There is no real excuse for not matching whole albums as oppose to single songs. I read somwhere the 'typical" case of the Beatles "Abbay Road" album not matching "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" on most users. I think is silly to say the less. Albums matching not single songs, please!!!

  • SUM two ROWS in the SAME Table

    I have a problem with this issue. I want to sum two rows from the same table, but I don´t know how to do that. I tried to do it with CTE, but always I get the same error "Ambiguous". I would like to ask you, if there is other manner to get that

  • Color a column based on value in another column in tableview

    I am using a tableview iterator to display data in a bsp page. I want to color a cell in particular column (column 4), when a value in another column (column 2) on that same row is greater than 20. I can color the cell in column 2 but am not able to color the cell in column 4. How can I accomplish this?
    This is what I have. Looks like val1 is losing it's value.
    CASE p_column_index.
        WHEN 2.
          ASSIGN p_row_data_ref->* TO <row>.
          ASSIGN COMPONENT 'ZTGT' OF STRUCTURE <row> TO <col>.
          VAL = <col>.
          IF VAL GT '20'.
            val1 = p_row_index.
            p_style = 'celldesign:CRITICALVALUE_DARK'.
          ENDIF.
        WHEN 4.
            if p_row_index = val1.
              p_style = 'celldesign:CRITICALVALUE_DARK'.
            endif.
        WHEN OTHERS.
    do nothing
      ENDCASE.

    The reason val1 is "loosing its' value" is presumably because you have defined it in the method as a local variable. So each time you call the RENDER_CELL_START method it is is newly initialised. So if you make this an instance attribute it will retain its' contents across method calls.

  • Update one column while getting the value in another column

    Is it possible to in one single SQL statement update two columns in a table while at the same time obtaining the value of another column, on the same row, in the same table, and independently (that is, the update of the columns has nothing to do with the data that I want from another column)*?* Of course, I can do this in two operations, one being a "select" and the other one being an "update", but since I am in the same table and even on the same row, is it really necessary to make TWO database calls? That's why I want to combine the the two SQL-statements, for reasons of presumed effiency.

    At least not in terms of SQL.
    JDBC requires a 'statement' but in SQL (depending on the data source) that can include multiple statements. An obvious example of this is a stored proc but there are other ways as well.

  • Copy values from a filed to another in different blocks in same table

    Hi All,
    How to copy value from a filed to another field in different blocks in same form ?
    example if i change value in Field A of block 1 it should reflect in Field B block 2 and again if i change in Field B block 2 it should reflect in Field A of block 1.
    values will change twice or thrice then it will not change. It is happening like that.
    how to do this ?
    Regards

    Same table / different blocks
    I guess, both blocks will be marked for update, and when your user presses commit, the same table will be updated twice!
    Are you sure that this is what you want to do? Is the same record current in both blocks? If so, you better use 1 block (it can be spread over several canvases and windows) and synchronize the items with the "synchronize item" property.
    Anyway: If you can't apply the synchronize-property bcos the items are in different blocks, you can synchronize with 2 when-validate-item triggers.

  • How can I align two different text row in the same table in two different way (one centered and the other one on the left)?

    Hi,
    I want to center two different text row that are in the same table but one on the center and the other one on the left. I put a <span> tag hoping that it has been overwhelmed the table's class properties The .bottomsel's font-family and the .Cig84's font-family and colour work but the text-align don't: they're both on the left.
    These are my source and CSS codes:
    Source:
    <table width="600" border="0">
      <tr>
        <td class="bottomref"><p><span class="bottomsel">| <a href="index.html" target="_self">Main</a> | <a href="about.html" target="_self">About</a> | <a href="clients.html" target="_self">Clients</a> | <a href="contact.html" target="_self">Contact</a> |</span><br />
          <span class="credits">Credits: <span class="Cig84">Cig84</span></span></p></td>
      </tr>
    </table>
    CSS:
    .bottomsel {
      text-align: center;
      font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;
    .credits {
      text-align: left;
    .Cig84 {
      color: #F00;
      font-family: "Comic Sans MS", cursive;

    Use paragraph tags with CSS classes.
    CSS:
         .center {text-align:center}
         .left {text-align:left}
    HTML:
    <table width="600" border="0">
      <tr>
        <td class="bottomref">
              <p class="center">This text is center aligned</p>
              <p class="left">This text is left aligned</p>
        </td>
      </tr>
