Calculating heading/bearing between 2 gps points (x,y)

Do you guys have an idea how to calculate bearing between 2 points? Im trying to search answers in forums still i got no luck finding i..
Thank you in advance.

The only not completely-straight fwd thing in there is CF's omission of the atan2() function, as you pointed out.
However this is already-trod ground:
http://www.cflib.org/udf/atan2
Other than that, it's pretty much just copy and paste.  Oh and in CF it's pi() not pi (ie: a function, not a constant).

  • Bearing between two points

    This may be an obvious question to more experienced users, but I can't seem to find anything on it in the documentation.
    Is there any way to find the bearing of a line segment, that is, the angle between due north and the line between two points? It seems so simple, and Spatial provides a function to find a point at a specified distance and heading from another, so it seems like existing functionality.
    Thanks in advance - J

    Upgrading to 11g is one option.
    The other option is to write this function in PL/SQL yourself if you don't need a very accurate solution.
    This web page here gives a simple algorithm to find the bearing for two points.

  • Command for calculating the difference between channel points

    Hello guys,
    Please tell me if there is a command (or a way) to calculate the diference between channel points, and when there is a diference between points greater then a certain value, to give you where are those points.
    I record some CSV data, a force during time and travel, and I want to put on a graph the exact value when I have a decrease of force greater then 0,1N.
    Thank you again for your time.

  • Distance between GPS points

    I have an application where I am collecting GPS data and all is well, had no problem writing the drivers for gps communication but now I need to calculate displacement between my long and lat readings.  Is there a labview function developed to do this or do I need to figure out the calculations and code it myself.  I am trying to not reinvent the wheel.

  • Calculating a distance between random points.

    Hi everyone,
    so my situation is like this :
    1) I have created a graph containing random points (3 different series). And the graph have three buttons .The first button will plot 30 random points on the chart. the second and third button will plot random point with different colour.
    What I am trying to do now is I need to choose one random point from the 30 points, and calculate the distance from the chosen point to the qrand or qinit..
    How can I do that? I really have no idea. Help!
    public void ForBtn1()
    Random qrand = new Random();
    int[,] points = new int[100, 2];
    int qinitx, qinity;
    for (int i = 0; i < 30; i++)
    int pointx = qrand.Next(0, 100);
    int pointy = qrand.Next(0, 100);
    points[i, 0] = pointx;
    points[i, 1] = pointy;
    qinitx = points[0,0];
    qinity = points[0, 1];
    chart1.Series["Initial Point"].Points.AddXY(pointx, pointy);
    chart1.Series["Initial Location"].Points.AddXY(qinitx,qinity);
    //To initialize random points and initial point

    ForBtn1();

    int qrandx, qrandy;
    qrandx = qrand.Next(0,100);
    qrandy = qrand.Next(0,100);
    chart1.Series["Random Configuration"].Points.AddXY(qrandx, qrandy);

  • Difference in idoc adapter header mapping between SP14 and SP19

    Hi All,
    i have a very strange problem.......i have 2 XI systems : XI-sandbox and XI-dev.....
    XI-sandbox is on XI3.0 SP19 whereas XI-dev is on XI3.0 SP14...........
    I have a file->XI->idoc scenario which is same on both XI-sandbox and XI-dev....
    in receiver idoc adapter, i am using header mapping for sender service and in the sender service i am using XPATH of a field of control rec of idoc.........
    this scenario works fine on XI-sandbox which is on SP19 and the idocs are sent to SAP R/3 sandbox...........but this scenario on XI-dev gives error in SXMB_MONI in XI-dev of Call adapter - "No party conversion found".........
    So my question is that is there any difference in idoc adapter header mapping between SP14 and SP19.........
    Thanks,

    ><i>so i cant use apply control rec values from payload.........</i>
    rajeev,
    I know this has nothing to do with the original problem but please do bear.
    If I undertood you posts correct, the Sender Partner Name is set in the Idoc Control record in the field SNDPRN in the mapping using some mapping logic.
    Now, this is the partner name with which the idoc is to be posted to thge R3 system.
    if yes, then like I have pointed above, using "Take Sender From Payload" in the Receivcer Idoc Adapter is a better option as pointed in the SAP help as well.
    As you are already populating the idoc control ecord with SNDPRN just make the SNDPRT as LS and then select "Take Sender from Payload" in the receiver Idoc adapter and the Sender Partner Name will not be taken from SDNPRN just as you want.
    This is different from "Apply Control Records From Payload" .

    Hey smoothdurban,
    I've seen Brad's code, and trust me, it's worth the effort to let him help you get it up and running - it's definitely the most ideal way to solve this problem.  However, as Brad said, there are multiple ways to tackle this - both interactive and programmatic - so in the meantime, I'll take a second to detail one of the interactive and sure-fire ways to find the average of data between two points on a single channel.
    We'll use"Flags."  Set up your VIEW graph exactly as you did on your original screenshot, using Band Cursors to approximate the beginning and ending X-values representing the range you want to examine.  Next:
    1. Click the "Set Flags" button () that is a part of your 2D Axis System.  Note that you can hold down the Shift button if you ever decide you want to do this on more than a single curve at one time.
    2. Select the "Flags: Copy Data Points" button that enables after Flags are set.
    3. This creates new channel(s) in the default (bold) group in the Data Portal that contains only the Flagged data.
    4. Select DIAdem ANALYSIS.
    5. Select Statistics » Descriptive Statistics.
    6. In the Channels input, select the newly created channel containing your Flagged Y-Data.
    7. Ensure that the Arithmetic Mean parameter is set.  You can preview the data and the result in the dialog before pressing OK to execute the calculation.
    You may have noticed that in the Descriptive Statistics calculation, one of the parameters that you can set is the range of channel rows to operate on - so, if you know the row numbers of your beginning and ending X-values, you could just simply run the Descriptive Statistics calculation and use this parameter to operate on a row subset of your original channel instead of the entire channel.

  • IPad's Roaming Between Access Points

    A company with 460 Cisco Access Points is using iPad Mini's to control lighting and other things, the iPad Mini's are roaming between access points VERY SLOW, they are dropping 45-50 packets between roams. iPad 2's and iPhone's are roaming just fine, if they drop any packets it's a max of 5.
    Is there any differance in the NIC's that are in iPad 2's and iPad Mini's? Or is there a setting for fast roaming?

    Hi,
    It seems that these APs are not aware of each other, I would suggest you look into a controller based solution, that means you need some sort of controller base AP system to get this seamless roaming feature, I also suggest you check whether there's compatibility
    issue for the device with product vender.

  • Customizing distance between data Points on x-Axis

    Hi,
    I want to draw a LineChart.
    I have these Timestamps [84, 1000, 34000, 34699, 439999] who
    are represanting the x-Value of DataPoints along the X-Axis.
    Unfortunately the distance between 2 datapoints along the
    x-Axis is always the same, that means that between the points with
    x-values 84 and 1000 is the same distance along the axis as between
    the points with x-values 34699 and 439999.
    But the distance between points with x-values of 34699 and
    439999 should be much greater than between 84 and 1000.
    How can I customize the distance between data Points on a
    LineChart to solve my Problem?
    I really dont know right now!

    What happens if you convert the time stamps to Dates and use
    a DateAxis?

  • Google maps "get directions" between two points stopped working in firefox

    When using google maps to find directions between two points "Get Directions" it will just sit there loading... never finishing and showing the routes between the locations.
    This used to work fine about a month ago. I have not done anything, expect update Firefox.

    I can still get the basic directions to work in Google Maps, but recently the 3D driving directions has stopped working, and I'm pretty sure it stopped just about one Firefox update back. I realize this function is gravy to many people - a toy - but for someone who uses visual cues it has been extremely useful for imprinting the information in my mind, familiarizing myself with the route ahead of the drive. When I am traveling without a 'navigator' - a passenger who can read the directions as I drive - this is a huge help. Today I got a message about updating the GoogleEarth plugin, which I did - twice! Still no 3d directions, though suddenly the GG 3d driving simulator works. This has to be a FF problem :-(

    I want to draw an arc between two points.. i can't seem to be able to figure the math but i'm sure this is fairly simple and somebody has done this before...
    Thanks in advance.

    that's correct...you need three points to define an arc..
    the reason i said two points is that i'm doing a diagram editor and i have to let the user connect pairs of objects using arrow, arcs, lines etc...
    any help is greatly appreciated...

  • Connection between 2 points in a geodetic coordinate system

    In a geodetic coordinate system the connection between two points is a geodetic line or "great circle" (the shortest connection between two points on the surface of the earth).
    Since Oracle 9i distances and queries like "Is a point outside or inside the polygon" are computed correctly for a geodetic coordinate system.
    Even though a circle or arc is not allowed in a geodetic coordinate system (like WGS84 - SRID 8307)
    arcs and circles are used in geographic applications like aeronautical maps.
    Frequently a special area is defined like this "10 nautical miles around airport XXXX"
    and this area is shown as a circle in aeronautical maps (in the projection).
    The function SDO_UTIL.CIRCLE_POLYGON (in Oracle 10g) is very useful to construct such kind of areas and for queries like
    "Does the area belonging to airport XXXX overlap with the area belonging to airport YYYY?".
    For Oracle 8i we had to write special PL/SQL code.
    Another type of connection between two points that is frequently used is a line of equal latitude (parallel).
    Many boundaries are defined like "from meridian (longitude) 30°E to meridian 31°E along parallel 47.5°N".
    If this line is a border of a polygon and if we use a direct connection (geodetic line) and we ask if a point is
    inside or outside the polygon, we will not get the correct answer if the point is close north to this line.
    We have to approximate the line and add points e.g. every 0.1° longitude (30.1,30.2,30.3...), then the answer will be correct.
    My question:
    Are there plans to support circles of equal latitude or generally rhumb lines as a type of connection between two points?
    Karl Mann

    There are no plans to support rhumb lines, also know as loxodromes, and including the special case of parallels of latitude, at this time. Note that it is easy to simulate such rhumb lines with a sufficiently dense set of sampled points. Such a densification is implemented implicitly for parallels in the VIEWPORT_TRANSFORM function so that the concept of the "geodetic minimum bounding rectangle" can be supported, primarily for visualization applications.
