Calculation on server side in Sharepoint Online

Hi,
I'm searching for a solution to make the calculation on server side in Sharepoint Online, because CAML-Query don't have aggregation functions like sum.
My Problem:
I have 3 Lists in Sharepoint Online ("Projects", "Timesheet" , "Project Rates").
The "Projects" list has the columns "Title" , "Amount" , "Invoiced" (this Value should calculate dependent on the Timehseet Entries multiplied with the rate for that specific Project and Employee).
The "Timesheet" list has the columns "Time needed" , "Project" , "Employee".
The "Project Rates" list has the columns "Project" , "Employee" , "Rate".
In the Timesheet list I'll sum the column "Time needed" GroupedBy "Project" and "Employee" and multiply this result with the column "Rate" from the "Project Rates" list,
if the values of the columns "Project" and "Employee" from the "Project Rates" list are the same value as the columns from the "Timesheet" list.
After that calculation a progress bar should display the percentage of "Amount"/"Invoiced".
At the moment I'm using Javascript for calculating the "Invoiced" value and displaying the progress bar in a column of the "Projects" list.
Now, I do not want to make the calculation on client side, because the iteration over the different lists brings the performance down.
greets
Patrick

hi
other options are to implement provider hosted app or regular WCF service in different server, which should communicate with SP online e.g. by using client object model or you will send data for calculation to them. It will move code execution to the server,
but I'm not sure that it will make whole process faster.

  • Get local sql server data in sharepoint online

    Hi
      Can anyone tell, how to  get local sql server data in SharePoint online.

    Hi Partha,
    Are you taking about local content db to SharePoint Online, if yes then there is not direct way to restore your local content db to online instead if you have small data then you can save your site as a template including content and the upload that template
    and create site on online using that template.
    Below mentioned link might also help:

  • SharePoint Online IE 11 Unable to View Document Library

    I have a user that is using Windows 7 and IE 11. Whenever they open any sharepoint site, they are unable to view documents. They see the webpart title, but nothing underneath. I know this happens with the "Links" list as well as document libraries.
    Newsfeeds work fine.
    I have tried compatibility view, deleting cache, cookies, history, restoring advanced settings, and resetting the browser. None of these things work. I know it is not a permissions issue because I am able to log in as the user and I am able to see everything.
    Any ideas?

    There's conflicting ideas on this.  WebDAV handles explorer views on the server side.  SharePoint used to (don't know if it still does) have it's own built in version of that.  But when it's asking for username/password, that sounds to me
    like an ISS authentication issue, or a permissions issue.  Since you probably own it, I doubt permissions is the problem.

  • Yammer used for page comments in SharePoint Online, initially says "The feed you've requested does not exist"

    I am trying to use Yammer for a per-page comment platform. This seems to require placing a Yammer embed in each page and configuring the embed to use Open-Graph.
    Why does the feed initially say "The feed you've requested does not exist." for every new page? The default should read "There are no messages
    in this feed."
    My embed code looks like this:
    <div id="embedded-feed" style="height:400px;width:500px;"></div>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="https://assets.yammer.com/assets/platform_embed.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript"> yam.connect.embedFeed({

    , header: false
    , footer: false
    , promptText: "Comment on this page..."
    , objectProperties: { url: window.location.href, type: "page" }

    Hi,
    which is your environment, SharePoint Server 2013 or SharePoint Online?
    For Yammer Embed to work, your SharePoint environment must satisfy the following prerequisites:
    Your organization should have an active Yammer network (for example: www.yammer.com/contoso.com)
    Your SharePoint farm admin should choose Yammer.com service as the default enterprise social collaboration   platform. Set this option in the SharePoint admin center for SharePoint Online and in SharePoint Central Administration for on-premises
    SharePoint Server 2013.   Choose the yammer.com service and wait for 30 minutes before moving on to the next step.

  • Add Right Side Column and Web Parts to custom Master page in SharePoint Online

    Hello everyone,
    I hope this is a simple question, however I was fighting the issue it presents for a while. I am in the process of customizing SharePoint Online Look-and-feel with a new layout.
    The site collection was created as a
    Team Site before I got involved with the project, and populated with numerous sub-sites and pages. I activated required
    publishing features, created html with corresponding styles and graphics, and used the Design Manager to convert the html file to the custom Master page. While SharePoint automatically assigned “ContentPlaceHolderMain” div area, I
    also used default Oslo page as example to copy sections of the code for dynamic components (left column and navigation, recent items, the ribbon, etc.) from it and placed them in my new master page, pointed all CSS references to
    my custom style sheets, etc. Everything works great, however I need to make one last addition -
    my task is to make changes to display web parts such as Calendar and Recent Documents in the right column in the Master page.
    My custom layout has a header, footer, main pan and two side columns. Most of the default master templates come with the LEFT column already embedded and populated with several placeholder
    to serve dynamic content (PlaceHolderLeftNavBarTop, PlaceHolderQuickLaunchTop, PlaceHolderLeftNavBarDataSource, PlaceHolderLeftActions, so on).
    My challenge is that I have the RIGHT side column as well, for which I don’t think the default placeholder exists. I need to add a small Calendar box and Recent Documents parts to it, so they
    display across the entire site governed by this master page.
    The issue is –
    even after activating Publishing features (enabled SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure under Site Collection Level, and SharePoint Server Publishing under the Site
    Level), there is no Snippet feature (usually available under the generic Publishing Site); this customization of the Team Site allows using Designer and apply custom templates, themes, so on, just like you would under the Publishing collection, but not the
    Snippet utility I could use as the solution to embed the web parts on the master page.
    Recreating the entire site under Publishing Collection is not an option due to the directions I was given, I am to use this existing one, and need to see if
    there is a workaround to either activate the Snippet feature or use another solution to display the web parts inside of the column in the Master page.
    If the only solution is to use Web Part Zone, what are the steps to add it AND populate it with the abovementioned apps?
    Can anyone suggest how to create a workaround and add this feature? The environment is role-based so both elements need to be dynamically rendered based on the user’s role and activities.
    I am more of a front end designer than developer, so if any custom coding and set up required, please kindly provide some basic steps, if possible?..
    I greatly appreciate any help and suggestions!
    Thank You!
    Jeff
    Jeff V.

    Updating your Master Page to also include a right rail should be sraight forward enough with a new div or divs in your master page and then the proper styles to make room for this column as well as position the column.
    I have not seen why you cannot find the snippet gallery link when previewing a HTML Master Page in the browser. Have you tried loading the snippet gallery by its url? As an example, for my tenant on SPO, I can load the Snippet Gallery for the olso.master
    with the following url:
    https://pixelmill.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/ComponentConfigureControls.aspx?ComponentName=TopNavigationNoFlyoutWithStartNode&Url=%2F_catalogs%2Fmasterpage%2Foslo.master
    Change the domain to match yours as well as update the "Url" querystring var to point to your master page. See if that loads the snippet gallery.

    After configuring and validating the configuration of Workflow 1.0 by http://server_name.example.com:12291 page and also check the Application Services in Central Administration and receive the Workflow Status = Connected.

  • Clarification on SharePoint Online and SQL Server

    I have several subsites on a SharePoint 2013 server that uses external content types and the Business Data Connectivity Service to access tables in a SQL Server database. I used the Sharepoint 2013 Designer to configure most of this, but at times, I also
    used Visual Studio 2013. Everything works fine. It successfully uses a secure store Application ID to authenticate connections to a remote SQL Server (i.e. the SQL Server and SharePoint server are 2 completely different machines that are not even within the
    same domain). The external lists on the SharePoint site are capable of reading data in the SQL tables, updating data, adding new data, and deleting old data. I have specified permissions to users/groups that help me control who can access the external lists
    on the SharePoint sites. Everything has been working well for a while now.
    But now I have to start thinking about using SharePoint Online, instead of an on-premises SharePoint server. And everything I am reading indicates that what I do above is not going to work with SharePoint Online. It sounds like I will have to either move
    our database to a SQL Azure service, or if I want to continue using our existing SQL Server, then I am going to have to develop a WCF service that will allow SharePoint Online to communicate with our own SQL Server. Am I understanding this correctly? Or is
    there a way to take what I did above and make it work with SharePoint Online?
    Thank you,
    Steven

    Hi,
    We can use Hybrid Connections to connect SharePoint Online to an on-premises SQL Server.
    Here is a blog from MSDN for your reference:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/alimaz/archive/2014/07/31/connect-sharepoint-online-to-an-on-premises-sql-server-from-an-azure-provider-hosted-app-using-hybrid-connections.aspx
    We can also customize a WCF service and publish it to public web site to achieve it.

  • SharePoint Online workflows show server error when link is clicked. Cannot terminate them.

    This is for SharePoint Online. I have a number of workflows on a list that are in a 'suspended' state when I navigate to the workflows page for the item. When I click the link to view the workflow, I get a server error.  I need to terminate these workflows.

    Hi,
    Based on your description, you want to terminate these workflows in SharePoint online.
    You can terminate these workflows by the CSOM implementation through passing the ID of the list and list item.
    You can refer to the code snippets below.
    // connect to the workflow services via a CSOM client context
    var clientContext = new ClientContext(siteCollectionUrl);
    var workflowServicesManager = new WorkflowServicesManager(clientContext, clientContext.Web);
    // connect to the instance service
    var workflowInstanceService = workflowServicesManager.GetWorkflowInstanceService();
    // get all instances
    var workflowInstances = workflowInstanceService.EnumerateInstancesForListItem(listId, listItemId);
    clientContext.Load(workflowInstances);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    foreach (var instance in workflowInstances)
    // is this what we are looking for?
    // if so, suspend it
    workflowInstanceService.SuspendWorkflow(instance);
    // or you can terminate it
    workflowInstanceService.TerminateWorkflow(instance);
    There is a similar case:

  • Cascading lists drop downs in SharePoint Designer (no server-side code) without postback

    I've created cascading drop downs populated from SharePoint lists, by following
    this post by Lars in SharePoint designer without using code, it works fine, my issue is that the secondary drop down only populates if the main drop down causes auto-post-back, is there any way to make the secondary drop down populate without causing
    post back and without using server-side code?

    Since you are using the ASP:DropDownList, you will need the post-back since it's a server-side control that doesn't use a callback. The following JavaScript library provides for a way to creating cascading dropdowns on the client-side,
