Calculation using multiple select statements - APEX 4.0
Hello,
I am new to APEX, PL/SQL and have some SQL knowledge, but I pick up things quickly. I want to make a page item equal to the value of a Select statement minus another Select statement. The statements pull from the same tables and only differ slightly in the where clause. I do not know the best way to create this calculation. Can someone please assist.
Select Statement #1
select sum(JE_TRANSACTIONS.DEBIT_AMOUNT) as "Release"
from "REVREC_FORMS" "REVREC_FORMS",
"JOURNAL_ENTRIES" "JOURNAL_ENTRIES",
"JE_TRANSACTIONS" "JE_TRANSACTIONS"
where "JOURNAL_ENTRIES"."RELATED_REVREC"="REVREC_FORMS"."REVREC_ID"
and "JOURNAL_ENTRIES"."RECORD_ID_"="JE_TRANSACTIONS"."RELATED_JOURNAL_ENTRY"
and "JOURNAL_ENTRIES"."RELEASE_TYPE" ='Release'
and "JOURNAL_ENTRIES"."REVENUE_TYPE" ='Software'
and "REVREC_FORMS"."REVREC_ID" =:P12_REVREC_ID
Select Statement #2
select sum(JE_TRANSACTIONS.DEBIT_AMOUNT) as "Deferral"
from "REVREC_FORMS" "REVREC_FORMS",
"JOURNAL_ENTRIES" "JOURNAL_ENTRIES",
"JE_TRANSACTIONS" "JE_TRANSACTIONS"
where "JOURNAL_ENTRIES"."RELATED_REVREC"="REVREC_FORMS"."REVREC_ID"
and "JOURNAL_ENTRIES"."RECORD_ID_"="JE_TRANSACTIONS"."RELATED_JOURNAL_ENTRY"
and "JOURNAL_ENTRIES"."RELEASE_TYPE" ='Deferral'
and "JOURNAL_ENTRIES"."REVENUE_TYPE" ='Software'
and "REVREC_FORMS"."REVREC_ID" =:P12_REVREC_ID
How about
select sum(decode(release_type,'Deferral',je_transactions.debit_amount)) - sum(decode(release_type,'Release',je_transactions.debit_amount)) as result
from "REVREC_FORMS" "REVREC_FORMS",
"JOURNAL_ENTRIES" "JOURNAL_ENTRIES",
"JE_TRANSACTIONS" "JE_TRANSACTIONS"
where "JOURNAL_ENTRIES"."RELATED_REVREC"="REVREC_FORMS"."REVREC_ID"

ORA-00911: invalid character using multiple select statements
I am getting an ORA-00911: invalid character error when trying to execute 2 select statements using ODP.NET.
cmd.CommandText = "select sysdate from dual;select sysdate from dual;";
cmd.Connection = conn;
cmd.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.Text;
conn.Open();
OracleDataReader dr = cmd.ExecuteReader();
This works in SQL server but for some reason it appears this does not work in Oracle?
If this is the case what is a vaiable workaround? Wrapping the 2 statements in a transaction?
Seems strange that you can't return multiple result sets using in-line sql statements.Oracle doesn't support passing multiple statements like that, and this is unrelated to ODP.NET.

You could do it via an anonymous block and ref cursors though if you dont want to do it via a stored procedure..

Hi,
I am working on a report what has 10 datasets derived from 10 different select statements.
Is it possilbe to save those 10 select statements as a macro / stored procedure and then use that macro to generate those dataset in the ssrs report builder ?
AshishSinghalHi AshishSinghal84,
According to your description, you want to write multiple select statements in a procedure, then use the procedure as dataset in the report, right?
According to my knowledge, when we write multiple select statements in a procedure, we have to create relationship between these select statements, otherwise it will only return the first one query's fields. If you are using SSRS 2008 R2, you can use Lookup
function to display these fields from different datasets on one data region control, but the prerequisite is that you must have one common field. For more information about lookup function, please see:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210531.aspx
If all these solution you cannot achieve due to your special condition, the last workaround is to use subreport to display all the fields together.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks,

Executing a stored procedure containing multiple Select statements
Post Author: Beverly
CA Forum: General
I am using Crystal 10.0 against a MS SQL 2000 server.
I am trying to create a report based on a stored procedure that contains multiple select statements. The sp requires a single parameter (Claim number) and contains 17 Select statements that produce results.
I am able to use the Add command and execute the sp with the parameter, but I am only getting the results of the first select statement in the sp back in my data set. Is there a way to have the data from each Select statement returned to my report?
I have used Crystal for a while, but pretty much for straight-forward reporting. I am familiar with the basics of SQL.
I would appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Thanks.Post Author: BISoftware
CA Forum: General
I believe Crystal Reports can only handle one recordset at a time, which means it can only handle a single select statement. The only way I can see around this would be to break up your stored procedure into multiple stored procedures, so that each only contains a single select statement. Then, use subreports to report on each individual sp. Hope this helps. - Davewww.BusinessSoftwareResource.com -
Problem Using Multiple With Statements
I'm having a problem using multiple WITH statements. Oracle seems to be expecting a SELECT statement after the first one. I need two in order to reference stuff from the second one in another query.
Here's my code:

WITH calculate_terms AS (SELECT robinst_current_term_code,
CASE
WHEN robinst_current_term_code LIKE '%60' THEN robinst_current_term_code - '40'
WHEN robinst_current_term_code LIKE '%20' THEN robinst_current_term_code - '100'
END first_term,
CASE
WHEN robinst_current_term_code LIKE '%60' THEN robinst_current_term_code - '100'
WHEN robinst_current_term_code LIKE '%20' THEN robinst_current_term_code - '160'
END second_term
FROM robinst
WHERE robinst_aidy_code = :aidy)
/*Use terms from calculate_terms to generate attendance periods*/
WITH gen_attn_terms AS
SELECT
CASE
WHEN first_term LIKE '%60' THEN 'Fall '||substr(first_term,0,4)
WHEN first_term LIKE '%20' THEN 'Spring '||substr(first_term,0,4)
END first_attn_period,
CASE
WHEN second_term LIKE '%60' THEN 'Fall '||substr(second_term,0,4)
WHEN second_term LIKE '%20' THEN 'Spring '||substr(second_term,0,4)
END second_attn_period
FROM calculate_terms
SELECT *
FROM gen_attn_terms

I get ORA-00928: missing SELECT keyword error. What could be the problem?You can just separate them with a comma:
WHERE robinst_aidy_code = :aidy),
/*Use terms from calculate_terms to generate attendance periods*/
gen_attn_terms AS

WHEN second_term LIKE '%20' THEN 'Spring '||substr(second_term,0,4)

How to return the result set of multiple select statements as one result set?
Hi All,
I have multiple select statements in my stored procedure that I want to return as one result set
for instance
select id from tableA
union
select name from table b
but union will not work because the result sets datatypes are not identical so how to go about this ?
ThanksYou have to CAST or CONVERT (or implicitly convert) the columns to the same datatype. You must find a datatype that both columns can be converted to without error. In your example I'm guessing id is an int and name is a varchar or nvarchar.
Since you didn't convert the datatypes, SQL will use its data precedence rules and attempt to convert name to an int. If any row contains a row that has a value in name that cannot be converted to an int, you will get an error. The solution is
to force SQL to convert the int to varchar. So you want something like
select cast(id as varchar(12)) from tableA
union
select name from tableb
If the datatypes are something other that int or varchar, you must find a compatable datatype and then convert one (or both) of the columns to that datatype.

Multiple Select statements in EXECUTE SQL TASK in SSIS
Can we write multiple select statements in execute sql task(SSIS).
If possible how to assign them to variables in result statementHi ,
You can use below steps to set result set to variable.
1.In the Execute SQL Task Editor dialog box, on the General page, select the Single row, Full result set, or XML result set type(According to your result set).
2.Click Result Set.
3.To add a result set mapping, click Add.
4.From the Variables Name list, select a variable or create a new variable.
What is multiple selection ? May be below can be used in your scenario !

How to use multiple selection parameters in the data model
Hi, after have looked all the previous threads about how to use multiple selection parameters , I still have a problem;
I'm using Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.3.2 and I'm tried to define more than one multiple selection parameters inside the data template;
Inside a simple SQL queries they work perfectly....but inside the data template I have errors.
My data template is the following (it's very simple...I am just testing how the parameters work):
<dataTemplate name="Test" defaultPackage="bip_departments_2_parameters">
<parameters>
<parameter name="p_dep_2_param" include_in_output="false" datatype="character"/>
<parameter name="p_loc_1_param" include_in_output="false" datatype="character"/>
</parameters>
<dataTrigger name="beforeReport" source="bip_departments_2_parameters.beforeReportTrigger"/>
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="Q2">

select deptno, dname,loc
from dept
&p_where_clause

</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
<dataStructure>
<group name="G_DEPT" source="Q2">
<element name="deptno" value="deptno"/>
<element name="dname" value="dname"/>
<element name="loc" value="loc"/>
</group>
</dataStructure>
</dataTemplate>
The 2 parameters are based on these LOV:
1) select distinct dname from dept (p_dep_2_param)
2) select distinct loc from dept (p_loc_1_param)
and both of them have checked the "Multiple selection" and "Can select all" boxes
The package I created, in order to use the lexical refence is:
CREATE OR REPLACE package SCOTT.bip_departments_2_parameters
as
p_dep_2_param varchar2(14);
p_loc_1_param varchar2(20);
p_where_clause varchar2(100);
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
CREATE OR REPLACE package body SCOTT.bip_departments_2_parameters
as
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean
is
l_return boolean := true;
begin
if (p_dep_2_param is not null) --and (p_loc_1_param is not null)
then
p_where_clause := 'where (dname in (' || replace (p_dep_1_param, '''') || ') and loc in (' || replace (p_loc_1_param, '''') || '))';
else
p_where_clause := 'where 1=1';
end if;
return (l_return);
end beforereporttrigger;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
As you see, I tried to have only one p_where_clause (with more than one parameter inside)....but it doesn't work...
Using only the first parameter (based on deptno (which is number), the p_where_clause is: p_where_clause := 'where (deptno in (' || replace (p_dep_2_param, '''') || '))';
it works perfectly....
Now I don't know if the problem is the datatype, but I noticed that with a single parameter (deptno is number), the lexical refence (inside the data template) works.....with a varchar parameter it doesn't work....
So my questions are these:
1) how can I define the p_where_clause (inside the package) with a single varchar parameter (for example, the department location name)
2) how can I define the p_where_clause using more than one parameter (for example, the department location name and the department name) not number.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion
AlexAlex,
the missing thing in your example is the fact, that if only one value is selected, the parameter has exact this value like BOSTON. If you choose more than one value, the parameter includes the *'*, so that it looks like *'BOSTON','NEW YORK'*. So you need to check in the package, if there's a *,* in the parameter or not. If yes there's more than one value, if not it's only one value or it's null.
So change your package to (you need to expand your variables)
create or replace package bip_departments_2_parameters
as
p_dep_2_param varchar2(1000);
p_loc_1_param varchar2(1000);
p_where_clause varchar2(1000);
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
create or replace package body bip_departments_2_parameters
as
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean
is
l_return boolean := true;
begin
p_where_clause := ' ';
if p_dep_2_param is not null then
if instr(p_dep_2_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := 'WHERE DNAME in ('||p_dep_2_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := 'WHERE DNAME = '''||p_dep_2_param||'''';
end if;
if p_loc_1_param is not null then
if instr(p_loc_1_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || ' AND LOC IN ('||p_loc_1_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || ' AND LOC = '''||p_loc_1_param||'''';
end if;
end if;
else
if p_loc_1_param is not null then
if instr(p_loc_1_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || 'WHERE LOC in ('||p_loc_1_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || 'WHERE LOC = '''||p_loc_1_param||'''';
end if;
end if;
end if;
return (l_return);
end beforereporttrigger;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
I've written a similar example at http://www.oracle.com/global/de/community/bip/tipps/Dynamische_Queries/index.html ... but it's in german.

Using multiple select lists in ADF
Hi,
I am trying to use a multiple select list in my JSP page, and have a method in the ApplicationModule be called when the Struts action is called. I am following the example ADF tutorials, where the method is added to the ApplicationModule class, then dragged onto the Stuts Flow diagram (to associate it with an action).
I am able to create a dyna form bean for the page that contains the multi select as a type "java.lang.String[]" (string array). I am able get that values that were selected in a normal action's "execute" method. For example:
msf = (DynaActionForm) form;
String[] statusSelection = (String[]) msf.get("multSelectList");
However, I cannot seem to get the "multSelectList" values into a method in my Application Module class. The "multSelectList" is defined in my dynaFormBean as a String[] type. I am passing it in as an argument like the following....
public void setParams(String multSelectList[]) {
This results in the method not being called at all. I am not sure why. Does this have something to do with a String[] not being serializable??
However, if I just attempt to pass other types form items to the method, it works. For example:
public void setParams(String simpleCheckbox) {
Does anyone know how to use multiple select lists in conjunction with ADF?
P.S.
my multSelectList looks something like this:

Select All
Preferred
Standard
Approved
Interim
I got this working by changing the signature of the Application Module method to use ArrayList rather than String[], then you can marshal the Struts FormBean contents into an ArrayList to pass up.
To do this, subclass the DataAction by using "Go To Code" off of the context menu and then override the initializeMethodParameters() method:
protected void initializeMethodParameters(DataActionContext actionContext, JUCtrlActionBinding actionBinding)
//Get the String Array from the Form Bean
String[] selection = (String[])((DynaActionForm)actionContext.getActionForm()).get("multiSelect");
//convert that to an ArrayList
ArrayList selectionArr = new ArrayList( Arrays.asList(selection));
//Add that object to the Arg List for the AM method
ArrayList params = new ArrayList();
params.add(selectionArr);
actionBinding.setParams(params);

Need to create a transaction for multiple select statements?
Hello,
I am a newbie and have a question about database transaction, e.g. whether/not to enclose multiple select statements (and select statements only) into a transaction.
My database is set to transaction isolation level 2: REPEATABLE READ, where dirty read & non-repeatable read are not allowed, only phantom read is allowed.
Now, in my code I have a number of methods that only contain select statements only. Since they are merely select statements, which don't do any modifications to the data, I am not sure if I am supposed to enclose them into a transaction.
However, if I don't put them into a transaction will the transaction isolation level takes into effect automatically when another user is modifying the data that I am reading? In other words, I need to make sure the select statements will never do either dirty read or non-repeatable read. But I am not sure if it is necessary to enclose multiple select statements in a transaction, since I believe putting the select statements into a transaction will put some locks to the data being read which may reduce the concurrency of my application.
Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.
DuaneYou might want to try asking this on a forum that specific to your database. I suspect the answer can vary depending on the database and probably requires in depth knowledge of what the database does.

Ranges input using multiple selection in select-options
Hello,
I have declared a single selection field with multiple selection as follows:
SELECT-OPTIONS:
S_PONUM FOR EKKO-EBELN NO INTERVALS,
If a range is entered using multiple selection, no value appears in the selection field on screen, however, the ranges tab in multiple selection shows the range. Is there a way to programatically test if a range has been entered using multiple selection? Help is appreciated.
RegardsHi,
If you not displaying the intervals then user can enter only one value then option field will be with 'EQ' sign.

USING MULTIPLE SELECT VARIABLE IN A SQL STATEMENT
In HTMLDB, the value of the parameter of a multiple select box is colon delimited(ie P6_Name = Smith:Jones:Burke). Is there an easy way to use this parameter in a SQL statement?
Example
Select *
from names
where
Name=P6_Name
Select *
from names
where
Name IN ('Smith','Jones','Burke')
Thank youThank you for your response! I'm an idiot. It didn't make sense to me because your talking about a multi-select variable and I was thinking about a select-list variable. My problem is that I need to assign a list of values to one select list item.
For example:
SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEE
WHERE EMPLOYEE_TYPE IN ( :SELECT_LIST_RETURN_VALUE );

With the select list as

Display value = All Types, Some Types, One Specific Type
Return Value = (Type1, type2, type3), (type1, type2), (type3)

I've just started in all of this so I'd imagine that I'm probably going about it wrong.
