Call Ref cursors in DAAB

Hi,
I have one procedure in Oracle which is returning the REF Cursor I am accessing it by using the Data access application block DAAB like the following:
OracleParameter param = new OracleParameter();
param.ParameterName = "Emp_Cursor";
param.OracleType = OracleType.Cursor;
param.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output;
param.Size = 3000;
Database db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase("DBConnection");
//DbCommand cmd = db.GetSqlStringCommand("Select * from emp");
DbCommand cmd = db.GetStoredProcCommand("emppackage.select_employee");
db.AddOutParameter(cmd, param.ParameterName, param.DbType, param.Size);
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
ds = db.ExecuteDataSet(cmd);
GridView1.DataSource = ds;
GridView1.DataBind();
But iam getting this error:
ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'SELECT_EMPLOYEE'
ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
PL/SQL: Statement ignored
How to call Ref Cursors in DAAB.
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I'm having the same problem. My package is as follows:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE PKG_COOPERATORS AS
TYPE T_CURSOR IS REF CURSOR;
PROCEDURE SP_FETCH_PARTY(vPARTY_ID IN NUMBER, curParty OUT T_CURSOR);
END PKG_COOPERATORS;
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY PKG_COOPERATORS AS
PROCEDURE SP_FETCH_PARTY (vPARTY_ID IN NUMBER, curParty OUT T_CURSOR)
AS
BEGIN
OPEN curParty FOR
SELECT *
FROM
PARTY
WHERE
PARTY_ID = vPARTY_ID
END SP_FETCH_PARTY;
END PKG_COOPERATORS;
My code is as follows:
Database db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase();
using (DbCommand cm = db.GetStoredProcCommand(proc))
db.AddInParameter(cm, "vPARTY_ID", System.Data.DbType.Int64, 1);
db.AddOutParameter(cm, "curParty", System.Data.DbType.Object, 0);
SafeDataReader dr = new SafeDataReader(db.ExecuteReader(cm));
I've also used KALK's method of
System.Data.OracleClient.OracleParameter param = new System.Data.OracleClient.OracleParameter();
param.ParameterName = "curParty";
param.OracleType = System.Data.OracleClient.OracleType.Cursor;
param.Size = 3000;
db.AddOutParameter(cm, param.ParameterName , param.DbType.Object, param.Size);
and get the exact same error.
Thanks in advance,
Jamie

  • Call ref cursor functions in function also returning ref cursor?

    In 10g database, I have several functions and procedures, some packaged, that return ref cursors. These work as expected.
    Is there a way to call one or more of these in a new function and return another ref cursor?
    I know this doesn't work, but I hope it conveys the idea.
    function f_get_order_lines
       return sys_refcursor -- or defined ref cursor
    is
      v_ords orders_rcr;
      v_lines lines_rcr;
      x sys_refcursor;
    begin
      v_ords := f_get_orders;
      for rec in v_ords
       loop
        v_lines := f_get_lines;
       ... do other work here...
      end loop;
    return x;
    end;

    Pipelined table functions might do the trick for you, depending you your requirements and the transformations you need to make:

  • Using Ref Cursors as region source

    Is it possible to use a function that returns a ref cursor as a region's source? I asked this question at the end of another thread and got no response so I made this new thread.
    I created an application called 'ref cursor' on apex.oracle.com at
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=4550
    Workspace : wc_jason
    username: dev
    password: password
    There is a table named TBL and a function returning a ref cursor name FNC. On the home page there are three regions, one using a sql statement, one using a pl/sql function returning a sql statement, and one that attempts to use a ref cursor. The ref cursor region's condition is set to NEVER because I couldn't get it to work and I wanted to show the page with the two working regions.
    Can I even use a ref cursor in this manor?
    Thanks for the help.

    Heres a quick example I did for you:
    create or replace package pkg_refcursordemo

    type tab_emp is table of emp%rowtype;

  • Call SP with application block (daab) & multiple out  REF CURSOR parameters

    Hi,
    I'm using Microsoft's data application blocks to execute a stroed procedure that look like this: (Note that I have not included the package declaration nor the T_CURSOR type declaration since it's working fine when I execute this procedure in a tool like TOAD or else)
    PROCEDURE qryTest(EMPLOYEE_ID IN VARCHAR, EMP_CUR OUT T_CURSOR, TASK_CUR OUT T_CURSOR)
         IS
         BEGIN
              OPEN EMP_CUR FOR
                   SELECT DISTINCT EMP_ID,
                        FIRSTNAME || ' ' || LASTNAME AS FULLNAME
                   FROM EMPLOYEE_TABLE     WHERE EMP_ID = EMPLOYEE_ID;
              OPEN TASK_CUR FOR
                   SELECT DISTINCT T1.TASK_ID,
                        T1.TASKNAME
                   FROM TASK_TABLE     T1 INNER JOIN EMPLOYEE_TABLE T2 ON T1.EMP_ID = T2.EMP_ID     WHERE T2.EMP_ID = EMPLOYEE_ID;
    END qryTest;
    Then, I try to execute this SP from the data app blocks this way:
    First, I have a function that acts as a definition block to call the generic method calling the SP (VB.NET):
    Private Function getEmployees() As DataSet
    Dim prms(2) As OracleParameter
    prms(0) = New OracleParameter("EMPLOYEE_ID", OracleType.VarChar, 20, ParameterDirection.Input, False, 0, 0, "", DataRowVersion.Default, "6586")
    prms(1) = New OracleParameter("EMP_CUR", OracleType.Cursor, 30000, ParameterDirection.Output, True, 0, 0, "", DataRowVersion.Default, Nothing)
    prms(2) = New OracleParameter("TASK_CUR", OracleType.Cursor, 30000, ParameterDirection.Output, True, 0, 0, "", DataRowVersion.Default, Nothing)
    ds = DataBaseLAyer.ExecuteOracleProcedure("qryTest", False, prms)
    Return ds
    End Function
    And this is the function that execute the SP using the app blocks (C#):
              public static DataSet ExecuteOracleProcedure(string procName, bool createEmptyRow, params OracleParameter[] parameters)
                   Database db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase("DBPACKAGENAME");
                   DBCommandWrapper cmd = db.GetStoredProcCommandWrapper(procName);
                   if(parameters != null)
                        foreach(OracleParameter param in parameters)
                             if(param.Direction == ParameterDirection.Input)
                                  cmd.AddInParameter(param.ParameterName, param.DbType, param.Value);
                             else
                                  cmd.AddOutParameter(param.ParameterName, param.DbType, param.Size);
                   DataSet ds = db.ExecuteDataSet(cmd);
                   return ds;
    When DataSet ds = db.ExecuteDataSet(cmd); is executed, I get this error:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'QRYTEST' ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'QRYTEST'
    The procedure runs perfectly in TOAD but in here, it gives me this error several times in the same message...
    I did some tests and if I add another REF CURSOR (T_CURSOR) output param, I will get the error 3 times in the stack trace and so on...
    I know that the app block adds an out param implicitly which has to be named "cur_OUT" in my SP, which I TRIED without any success...
    Someone can help?
    Thanks for reading!

    My issue was that I was setting up my parameter in code as a DbType.Boolean. From what I could tell, the EntLib sends a 0/1 to the procedure and not a TRUE/FALSE which is what PL/SQL is expecting. My application works with both SQL Server and Oracle and SQL Server is smart enough (...ducking...) to figure it out that a 0 means false and a 1 means true. It does the conversion for you in T-SQL. Oracle has no clue. I spent way longer on this issue than I should have because I kept seeing posts that said "PL/SQL accepts BOOLEAN variables". Yea, well don't use them in this scenario. I ended up changing the parameter to use DbType.TinyInt and my problem went away. I suggest you try changing your parameters to NUMBER(1) and then to DbType.TinyInt in code and it should work just fine.
    I've only worked with PL/SQL for 2 months now so maybe I am missing something obvious but trying to find a post on this kind of thing is next to impossible.
    Let me know if that helped.

    How to call this SP from VB code with ref cursor parameter?

    I'm fairly sure that's not possible, since there's nothing in the ODBC spec to allow for ref cursors. The driver has built in support to check for ref cursors that are returned via a stored procedure call, but there's nothing built into the driver to pass one IN. Since a ref cursor can't be constructed on the client side, you'd have to have some sort of structure that allowed you to reference the ref cursor directly in order to be able to pass one back to the database.
    Since you're using VB.NET anyway, the better solution is probably just to use ODP.NET instead, which DOES allow you to reference a ref cursor directly, and there are samples that install with ODP.NET that show you how to do that.

  • How to call a Stored Procedure with a REF CURSOR output parameter

    I am looking forward an example that call a stored function/procedure with a REF CURSOR output parameter and get the result.
    In other words, I have a stored function/procedure that execute a SELECT statement using the OCI library and then it could get the values of each column and each row.
    I put a code snippet, it have only the main thing to call a simple stored procedure and print the name of each column of the cursor, but I couldn´t to print out the values in the table that call the stored procedure.
    I understand that the next step, it is to call a OCIStmtFetch.
    How to associate the cursor with the OCIStmtFetch?
    If you need more information, only tell me.
    I am using ANSI C with HP-UX Operative System (C for HP-UX) and Oracle 10g.

    Hi Mark,
    Thanks for your recommendations.
    I change the code with OCIDefineByPos, one for each parameter from cursor and then use the OCIStmtFetch.
    I don´t receive a error when call OCIDefineByPos, but when I call OCIStmtFetch receive a -1 error number.
    What is wrong with the code?
    The script is the same.
    I need your help!
    Best Regards!

  • Call to Oracle stored procedure that returns ref cursor doesn't work

    I'm trying to use an OData service operation with Entity Framework to call an Oracle stored procedure that takes an number as an input parameter and returns a ref cursor. The client is javascript so I'm using the rest console to test my endpoints. I have been able to successful call a regular Oracle stored procedure that takes a number parameter but doesn't return anything so I think I have the different component interactions correct. When I try calling the proc that has an ref cursor for the output I get the following an error "Invalid number or type of parameters". Here are my specifics:

    [WebGet]
    public void CreateWorkOrder(int WindfarmId)
    this.CurrentDataSource.CreateWorkOrder(WindfarmId);
    Here is the stored procedure:
    procedure GetWorkOrdersByWindFarmId(WINDFARMID IN NUMBER,
    P_RESULTS OUT REF_CUR) is
    begin
    OPEN P_RESULTS FOR
    select WINDFARM_ID,
    STARTTIME,
    ENDTIME,
    TURBINE_NUMBER,
    NOTES,

    end GetWorkOrdersByWindFarmId;
    I defined a function import for the stored procedure using the directions I found online by creating a new complex type. I don't know if I should be defining the input parameter, WindfarmId, in my app.config? If I should what would that format look like? I also don't know if I'm invoking the stored procedure correctly in my service operation? I'm testing everything through the rest console because the client consuming this information is written in javascript and expecting a json format. Any help is appreciated!

    Making the change you suggested still resulted in the same Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException {"ORA-06550: line 1, column 8:\nPLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'GETWORKORDERSBYWINDFARMID'\nORA-06550: line 1, column 8:\nPL/SQL: Statement ignored"}     System.Exception {Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException}
    I keep thinking it has to do with my oracle.dataaccess.client settings in App.Config because I don't actually put the WindfarmId and an input parameter. I tried a few different ways to do this but can't find the correct format.

  • Dynamic call for a ref cursor: ORA-21779

    Hi,
    Here is an environment:
    create or replace
    PACKAGE PKG_GETDATA AS
    TYPE cursor_type IS REF CURSOR;
    Procedure SimpleGet (cData In Out Cursor_type);
    Procedure DynamicGet (cData In Out Cursor_type);
    END PKG_GETDATA;
    create or replace
    PACKAGE BODY "PKG_GETDATA" AS
    Procedure SimpleGet (cData In Out Cursor_type) As
    Begin
    Open cData For
    Select 1 from Dual;
    End SimpleGet;
    Procedure DynamicGet (cData In Out Cursor_type) As
    Begin
    Execute Immediate 'Begin PKG_GETDATA.SIMPLEGET(:1); End;'
    Using In Out cData;
    End DynamicGet;
    END PKG_GETDATA;
    So- first simple get works fine:
    Declare
    cData PKG_GETDATA.Cursor_type;
    aNumber Number;
    Begin
    PKG_GETDATA.SimpleGet (cData);
    LOOP
    FETCH cData INTO aNumber;
    EXIT WHEN cData%ROWCOUNT > 5 OR cData%NOTFOUND;
    dbms_output.put_line (aNumber);
    END LOOP;
    close cData;
    End;
    BUT dynamic call does not works at all!:
    Declare
    cData PKG_GETDATA.Cursor_type;
    aNumber Number;
    Begin
    PKG_GETDATA.DynamicGet (cData);
    LOOP
    FETCH cData INTO aNumber;
    EXIT WHEN cData%ROWCOUNT > 5 OR cData%NOTFOUND;
    dbms_output.put_line (aNumber);
    END LOOP;
    close cData;
    End;
    It throws ORA-21779 exception; what is more- it does work on 10.2 db version but does not work on 11.2 version! Could anyone explain that?

    Bartlomiej D.

  • Problem to call stored procedure with several IN pars and single REF Cursor

    Hi,
    Oracle 9.2.0.1
    Ole DB Provider I've got with ODP 9.2.0.4
    First I try to call packaged procedure with single
    REF CURSOR - it works fine(PROCEDURE getDep(dep OUT DEPART.refcur) IS ...).
    When I try to call procedure with additional IN parameter, I get an error ORA-01008: not all variables bound.
    Packaged procedure: PROCEDURE getDep(dep OUT DEPART.refcur, i1 IN number) IS .... and so on.
    Try to call from C#:
    cmd.CommandText = "{call depart.getDep(?)}";
    OleDbParameter par0 = cmd.CreateParameter();
    par0.Value = some value;
    par0.DbType = DbType.Int16;
    par0.OleDbType = OleDbType.Integer;
    par0.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
    OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter(cmd.CommandText,con);
    DataSet ds = new DataSet();
    da.Fill(ds);
    Connection string:
    "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;User Id=scott;Password=tiger;Data Source=ora92;OLEDB.NET=true;PLSQLRSet=true"
    Please, HELP !
    Thanks in advance,
    Vyacheslav

    Hi,
    Are you using OLEDB.NET driver (System.Data.Oledb) or ODP.NET driver (Oracle.DataAccess)?
    If you are using ODP.NET, remember that you need to bind the refcursor output variable also (besides the numbder)

  • 64bit OraOLEDB failed when calling stored procedure with Ref Cursor

    Hi everyone,
    I used the ADO VB sample provided with the Oracle 10g provider installation.
    But I compiled it in 64bit Visual Studio 2005 and ran on Windows 2003 x64 server.
    The function call "cmd.Execute" when it is trying to call a stored procedure which has an Out Ref Cursor parameter. The exception is
    "PLS-00306: wrong number or types arguments in call"
    I already set the property "PLSQLRSet" to true. But it doesn't help.
    The same code works if I compiled in 32 bit.
    It also works if the stored procedure does not have Ref Cursor parameter.
    I am guessing this is a bug in the 64bit Oracle provider. Anyone can confirm this please? or am I missing anything?
    Wilson

    It appears to work with 11.1.0.6.20 OLEDB provider but only for ExecuteNonQuery, I'm not able to work with Fill, and yes... in x86 works perfectly, but in x64 we are still having the ORA-06550 and PLS-00306 error.
    Our Connection string is as follows:
    "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle.1;OLEDB.NET=true;Password=xxxxx;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=exxxxx;Data Source=ECOR; PLSQLRSet=True"
    We are not using ODP.NET.
    Can you confirm that Fill method works with such update?

  • Calling stored proc from java using ref cursor

    Hi All,
    We have a requirement to display all the records from a table on a JAVA screen. Due to some constraints, we have to write the query in the stored proc. We are trying to return a result set from the stored proc to the java code by using a ref cursor. Please refer to the code below.
    Following is the PL/SQL proc
    procedure sp_user_course2(v1 OUT ref_cursor, persid in varchar2) as
    begin
    open v1 for
    SELECT lrn_exp_id, crs_name FROM emp_crs
    WHERE personid = persid;
    end;
    Here ref_cursor is of TYPE REF CURSOR declared in the package specification.
    The java code is
    Callable stmt = conn.prepareCall("call sp_user_course2(?,?)");
    stmt.registerOutParameter(1,OracleTypes.CURSOR);
    stmt.setString(2,emplId);
    stmt.execute();
    OracleCallableStatement tstmt = (OracleCallableStatement) stmt;
    ResultSet rs = tstmt.getCursor (1);
    When I run the program, I get the following error (at stmt.execute()):
    [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-06553: PLS-306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'SP_USER_COURSE2' 6553
    Can anyone tell me what could be the problem with this code? I have read somewhere that REF CURSOR feature is available from Oracle 9i onwards. If so, then, is there any workaround for mapping REF CURSOR to Resultsets in Oracle 8i?

  • Function call returned in ref cursor

    We have a ref cursor that calls a function in a package. When ODP.NET reads the cursor, it can't see what the function is returning. OO4O works fine, and if I take the sql that populates the ref cursor and put it into a temporary table, then select from that temporary table to return the ref cursor to ODP, it works fine. Anyone else seen this issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Call procedure that uses REF CURSOR?

    Can someone tell me how to call a procedure that uses a REF CURSOR?
    Procedure is something like this:
    PROCEDURE my_proc
    P_PROG_ID IN VARCHAR2,
    P_CRITERIA IN VARCHAR2,
    P_TASKCURSOR OUT MYREFCUR
    IS
    blah, blah blah
    I tried this to call the procedure:
    exec my_proc(variable1,variable2,variable3)
    but I don't know how to define variable3.
    Can someone help me out?

    Based on the parameters for the procedure, it looks like you have a cursor (myrefcursor) defined in a package somewhere. So, in sqlplus, you would need to do it in an anonymous block, something like:
    DECLARE
       l_cur package_name,myrefcur;
       variables to hold cursor fields
    BEGIN
       my_proc('ID', 'Criteria', l_cur);
       LOOP
          FETCH l_cur INTO variables to hold cursor fields
          EXIT WHEN l_cur%NOTFOUND;
          Do something with variables
       END LOOP;
       CLOSE l_cur;
    END;If you are on Oracle 9 or higher, assuming that myrefcursor is weakly typed,
    you could change the definition of the procedure to:
    PROCEDURE my_proc (p_prog_id    IN  VARCHAR2,
                       p_criteria   IN  VARCHAR2,
                       P_TASKCURSOR OUT SYS_REFCURSOR)then you could call it in sql plus like:
    -- Define the variables
    var var1 VARCHAR2(100);
    var var2 VARCHAR2(100);
    var cur  SYS_REFCURSOR;
    -- Assign Vlaues to the IN parameters
    EXEC :var1 := 'ID'; :var2 := 'Criteria';
    EXEC my_proc(:var1, :var2, :cur);
    -- See the contents of the cursor
    print curHTH

  • REF CURSOR problem .. function call from select

    Hello,
    I am still on the search for a way to call a function from with in a select statement.
    I've done it in SQL*Plus like this and it works.
    SELECT name, f_format(name) FROM user WHERE id = 12;
    This returns first the unformatted (raw) version of the stored value for name and then the formmtted version of the stored value of name.
    Since multiple names will be returned I need to user a REF CURSOR (cursor variable). The above select statement does not work from within the OPEN . .FOR clause necessary for a REF CURSOR.
    What can I do instead? My goal is to return multiple records of formatted names.
    null

    I have declared the reference cursor as a weak one. Thank you for clarifying that though. I was wondering if it made a difference. Here is a simple package that shows you what I am trying to do. I will include the errors at the bottom. Please have a look and let me know what you think is wrong.
