REF CURSOR problem .. function call from select

Hello,
I am still on the search for a way to call a function from with in a select statement.
I've done it in SQL*Plus like this and it works.
SELECT name, f_format(name) FROM user WHERE id = 12;
This returns first the unformatted (raw) version of the stored value for name and then the formmtted version of the stored value of name.
Since multiple names will be returned I need to user a REF CURSOR (cursor variable). The above select statement does not work from within the OPEN . .FOR clause necessary for a REF CURSOR.
What can I do instead? My goal is to return multiple records of formatted names.
null

I have declared the reference cursor as a weak one. Thank you for clarifying that though. I was wondering if it made a difference. Here is a simple package that shows you what I am trying to do. I will include the errors at the bottom. Please have a look and let me know what you think is wrong.

    Java function call from Trigger in Oracle
    @ user 861498,
    For the future, if a forum discussion is more than (let's say) a month old, NEVER resurrect it to append your new issue. Always start a new thread. Feel free to include a link to that old discussion if you think it might be relevant.
    Also, ALWAYS use code tags as is described in the forum FAQ that is linked at the upper corner of e\very page. Your formulae will be so very much more readable.
    {end of edit, what follows is their posting}
    I am attempting to do a similar function, however everything is loaded, written, compiled and resolved correct, however, nothing is happening. No errors or anything. Would I have a permission issue or something?
    My code is the following, (the last four lines of java code is meant to do activate a particular badge which will later be dynamic)
    Trigger:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE java_contact_t4 (member_id_in NUMBER)
    IS LANGUAGE JAVA
    NAME 'ThrowAnError.contactTrigger(java.lang.Integer)';

    // Bind the local variable to the statement placeholder.
    ps.setInt(1, memberID);
    // Execute query and check if there is a second value.
    ResultSet rs = ps.executeQuery();
    while (rs.next()) {
    badgeId = rs.getString("Note");
    // Clean up resources.
    rs.close();
    ps.close();
    conn.close();
    // davids badge is 105463705637

    To followup on the posting:
    Okay, being a oracle noob, I didn't know I needed to tell anything to get the java error messages out to the console
    Having figured that out on my own, I minified my code to just run the one line of code:

      import java.sql.*;
      import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
      import com.ekahau.common.sdk.*;
      import com.ekahau.engine.sdk.*;

         try {
              EConnection mEngineConnection = new EConnection("10.25.10.5",8550);
         } catch (Throwable e) {
              System.out.println("got an error");
              e.printStackTrace();
    }So, after the following:
    SQL> {as sysdba on another command prompt} exec dbms_java.grant_permission('AXIUM',"SYS:java.util.PropertyPermission','javax.security.auth.usersubjectCredsOnly','write');
    and the following as the user
    SQL> set serveroutput on
    SQL> exec dbms_java.set_output(10000);
    I run the procedure and receive the following message.
    SQL> call java_contact_t4(801);

    Can anyone tell me why it would skip resolving a class? Especially after I use the -r flag to have loadjava resolve it upon loading.
    How do i get it to resolve the entire jar file?

  • Execute Oracle Package Function call from FORTE

    Has anyone EVER successfully execute an Oracle Package Function call from FORTE
    via " sql execute procedure "?
    Here's my question, I am able to execute a stored procedure but hasn't figured
    out a way to execute a function which defined in a package. The syntax goes
    like this: sql execute procedure <PackageName>.<FunctionName> ( input
    input_parm, output output_parm). If anyone EVER successfully execute a
    function, please let me know, thanks.

    You'll need to provide a column alias for the function call:
    select func(val) as alias from dual

  • Problem with function call from sql when using distinct

    I have the following problem.
    SELECT DISTINCT colA from tabA where my_function(colB) = 'TRUE'
    This statement will return a handfull of results from a table with 70k + records. The function takes about 0.5 secs to execute.
    How do i force the optimizer to do the select distinct first then execute the function on the results rather than execute the function for every single line first?
    Thanks in advance

  • Ref.Cursor Problem - URGENT

    Hi Friends,
    For my report ( calc.rdf ) ,
    I am passing two input parameters P_Client_ID, P_Plan_ID.
    In .rdf, I had a ref.cursor for selecting records based on
    two input parameters values.
    case1:
    P_client_ID = 'SRINI'
    P_Plan_ID = '3232'
    My report is generating the output for plan 3232.
    case2:
    P_client_ID = 'SRINI'
    P_Plan_ID = NULL
    My report is generating the output for all plans.
    case3:
    P_client_ID = 'SRINI'
    P_Plan_ID = '3232,3257,3259'
    My report is not generating any output here.
    Only blanck page i am getting.
    How can i pass multiple plans to ref.cursor at a time ?
    Note:
    I now, we cannot make Lexical references in a PL/SQL statement.
    Any other way to solve this problem ?
    Thanks for Help,
    srini

    I think that you work with 'static' ref cursor.
    From Oracle 8.1.5, we can use 'dynamic' ref cursors.
    With 'dynamic' ref cursor we can avoid the use of lexical parameters in Reports 3.0 / 6i.
    With 'static' ref cursor this is not possible in all cases.
    For example, if we need dynamic WHERE, we practically can't use 'static' ref cursor.
    Example for 'dynamic' ref cursor (dynamic WHERE)
    1. Stored package
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE report_dynamic IS
    TYPE type_ref_cur_sta IS REF CURSOR RETURN dept%ROWTYPE; -- for Report Layout only
    TYPE type_ref_cur_dyn IS REF CURSOR;
    FUNCTION func_dyn (p_where VARCHAR2) RETURN type_ref_cur_dyn;
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY report_dynamic IS
    FUNCTION func_dyn (p_where VARCHAR2) RETURN type_ref_cur_dyn IS
    l_ref_cur_dyn type_ref_cur_dyn;
    BEGIN
    OPEN l_ref_cur_dyn FOR
    'SELECT * FROM dept WHERE ' || NVL (p_where, '1 = 1');
    RETURN l_ref_cur_dyn;
    END;
    END;
    2.2 Query PL/SQL in Reports
    function QR_1RefCurQuery return report_dynamic.type_ref_cur_sta is
    begin
    return report_dynamic.func_dyn (:p_where);
    end;
    Note that Oracle Reports 3.0 / 6i needs 'static' ref cursor type for building Report Layout.
    So, in package specification we must have both ref cursor types, static for Report Layout
    and dynamic for ref cursor query.

    Regards,

    Hello InoL,
    REF Cursor is working better if it is a Navigator, Toad or SQLPlus.. but it is prompting all sort of errors when it is used within Reports 6i.. Here is what i was trying to achieve..
    The purpose of "REF Cursor" is to retrieve multiple parameter values .. ( at least that is what GOOGLE results were about REF Cursor )..
    At the same time, a function does not return more then one value and I'm not sure if Reports will allow to use a stored procedure. So, I started to use REF Cursor
    "lstvlv_refcur(vlvno OUT v_cursor )" I'm trying to retrieve as I mentioned 9 valve records to one report and remaining valve records to 2nd report, which I'm calling it via SRW reports built-in package..
    Here is the latest and greatest code on my REF Cursor..
    1) created "global temporary table" one time..
    2) within Reports added this package ( as a program unit )
         package vlvlst_chk is
         type vlvlst_rcd is RECORD
         ( fctly_seq_nbr number,
         vlv_nbr varchar2(6));
         type vlvno_refcur is REF CURSOR return vlvlst_rcd;
         end;
    3) then added a function called QR_1RefCurDS ( as a program unit )
    function QR_1RefCurDS return vlvlst_chk.vlvno_refcur is
    hld_vlvlst vlvlst_chk.vlvno_refcur;
    fctno INTEGER;
    vno varchar2(6);
    begin
    delete from fct_vlv_hold;
    commit;
    delete from fct_vlv_hold2;
    commit;
    open hld_vlvlst for
    select r.fclty_seq_nbr,r.vlv_nbr
    from REGSTATVLVS r
    where r.fclty_seq_nbr = :p_2
    order by vlv_nbr;
         for i in 1..40 loop
         fetch hld_vlvlst into fctno, vno;
         exit when hld_vlvlst%notfound;
         if i <= 9 then
              insert into fct_vlv_hold
              values(fctno, vno);
              commit;
    --          return hld_vlvlst;
         elsif (i>9 and i<= 40) then
              insert into fct_vlv_hold2
              values(fctno, vno);
              commit;
    --      return hld_vlvlst;
         else
    return hld_vlvlst;
         end if;
         end loop;
         close hld_vlvlst;
         return hld_vlvlst;
    end;
    Here: prompts "REP-0065/REP-0200" error, but writes records to temp tables..
    Question is why is it prompting this error?

  • Ref Cursor Problem in Oracle Forms 6i

    Hi all.
    In Oracle Forms 6i, can not I do this?

  • JTextField update problem when called from PropertyChangeEvent

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create forms that can be dynamically loaded with Class.forname(formName).
    Those forms should always inherit some methods that make it easy to pass data to
    them and receive data from them. The idea is that the data comes from a table which
    sends a hashmap (String column/JTextField-name + String Value pairs) with firePropertyChanged
    as soon as a new row is seleceted. The JTextFields in the form are marked with setName("FieldName") that has to correspond to the name of the columns of the table.
    My problem is that I can't update the fields in my form when I'm calling getRow(HashMap)
    from within propertyChangeEvent but that's necessary to keep the forms flexible.
    JTextFieldName.setText(newText) just won't work. But it works when I call getRow(HashMap)
    from the constructor. SwingWorker and threads to update the form didn't help.
    I don't need to call pack() / update() / repaint() on the JFrame, do I ??
    update() / validate() / repaint() etc. didn't work on the JTextField themselves.
    Below is the code for one of the test-forms (just a JPanel that is inserted in a frame)
    with all of it's methods. Does anybody have a solution to this problem ??
    Thanks for taking time for that !!

    Changes to the UI often have to be comitted by SwingUtitlities.invokeLater()

  • Bapi Function call from Crystal reports 2008. import parameters syntax.

    Dear,
    I have an issue with calling a function directly from Crystal reports (2008) in the R3 system.
    (if this belongs in another thread , please add the link if moved !)
    I try to get data through function "BAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATIONS".
    Till now all possible input parameters have no data-result.
    I already read other threads stating that 'for example' the Language key needs to be provided in a single character. 'E' in stead of 'EN'.
    I also already created a Z-wrap-function that fills out all input parameters 'hardcoded'. This works.
    clearly there are som syntax changes in passing the values to R3 when called from Crystal Reports.
    Can someone state which syntax has to be followed for numeric fields, for datefields etc. (so when i make these dynamical, I know which syntax should be the outcome of the formula)
    in my function that doesn't work I use these selections:
    (this function is called in a standard report only calling this function)
    {BAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATIONS_1.I_LANGU_ISO} = "E" and
    {BAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATIONS_1.I_LANGU_INT} = "E" and
    {BAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATIONS_1.T_CLASS_OBJECTS.OBJECT_TYPE} = "MARA" and
    {BAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATIONS_1.T_CLASS_OBJECTS.OBJECT_KEY} = "000000000000000085" and
    {BAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATIONS_1.I_CLASSNUM} = "DSWTEST" and
    {BAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATIONS_1.I_CLASSTYPE} = "001" and
    {BAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATIONS_1.I_KEY_DATE} = Date (2011, 08, 05)
    I already tried other languages or the 'EN' as input.
    (I would like to know how the date is passed exaclty to R3.)
    The function is of course RFC enabled.
    when I call the my Z-function with predefined inputparameters in R3 it does give the wanted result.
    FUNCTION ZBAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATION.

    ENDFUNCTION.
    please advise.
    once again if this should be moved to another forum , add the link please!

    Dear,
    I just debugged my Z-function, after adding all input parameters as in the standard BAPI function.
    All parameters seems to be passed correctly except from the table parameters from
    CLASS_OBJECTS
    So all I_parameters are passed :
    {ZBAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATION.I_LANGU_INT} = "EN" and
    {ZBAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATION.I_LANGU_ISO} = "EN" and
    {ZBAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATION.I_KEY_DATE} = Date (2011, 08, 05) and
    {ZBAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATION.I_CLASSNUM} = "DSWTEST" and
    {ZBAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATION.I_CLASSTYPE} = "001" and
    {ZBAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATION.I_CHARACTS_OF_CLASS_ONLY.BAPIFLAG} = ""
    but the table parameters aren't coming through:
    {ZBAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATION.T_CLASS_OBJECTS.OBJECT_TYPE} = "MARA" and
    {ZBAPI_CLASS_GET_CLASSIFICATION.T_CLASS_OBJECTS.OBJECT_KEY} = "000000000000000085" and
    these are 'blanco' in the function.
    also after the function is executed and all data is retrieved, when passing the data back to Crystal reports, once again, the table result isn't passed to Crystal Reports.
    please advise

  • Duration of an Abap Function call from Java using Jco3

    Hi guys!
    I would like to use this discussion to get some refernces of the duration Timespan of an RFC call from Java to SAP. At the moment, i need at last about 200ms to call the Abap function. I'm just using one simple import and export parameter (so no deep structures). I think that the reason for my poor performance is, that the Java Tool and the SAP instance are not in the same network. So, i hope some of you have some data, how fast an RFC call from Java using Jco can be executed.
    greetings, Hannes

    Hi Hannes,
    I think you have already got the answer to your question - the network set-up you have is probably the bottleneck.  Whenever I've worked with Java <-> ABAP and they are in the same network, I've had no performance problems at all.
    Does your RFC contain any complex logic or business processes?  Are you able to try and call something that does nothing, say it just accepts an input string and returns it straight away as an export.  Do you have any scope for testing with your Java tool on the same network as the SAP system?
    Cheers,
    G.

    yes SDN seems to have an example for you....it may not exactly solve your problem...but yes it not irrelevant.....you just need to do some R&D
