Call report from forms6i, use report server from 10gAS

Hi there,
I have been searching for any info I can get that will help me to do the following:
I want to call an Oracle 6i report from Forms6i but I want to specify a Report Server running on an Oracle10gAS box. Can this be done in a client/server fashion, meaning the forms/reports are on a Citrix box, accessed by many users.
Everything is working fine, using "RUN_PRODUCT" and the "Report Background Engine" to generate the report on the Citrix box. However, I want to use the report server from 10gAS runinng on another box, to generate these reports.
Please reply with any help you give.
Regards
shak

Hello,
You can use the compatible element in the reports server configuration file :
Description
The compatible element is available for backward compatibility with Oracle Reports 6i clients (RWCLI60.EXE, RWCGI60.EXE, RWQMU60.EXE, RWRQM60.EXE, RWRQV60.EXE, 6i Forms). When compatible is set to 6i, Reports Server will make use of an executable file named rwproxy that listens for requests from a 6i client and forwards them to a 10g server.

  • What is the interaction between calling VIs and subVIs using VI Server?

    I'm studying for the CLAD and one of the lines in NI's preparation document here is this:
    What is the interaction between calling VIs and subVIs using VI Server?
    I know how to use the "Call By Reference" function to call a VI, but not necessarily a subVI. I thought a subVI is always loaded with the calling VI and has nothing to do with VI Server. What am I missing?

    Hi Bmihura,
    I think this article will clear up how the VI Server works with subVIs called dynamically or statically.

  • Using 9i reports server on 9i Apps server

    I am in the process of migrating from Forms 6i and Reports 6i to running the forms and reports (*.rdf) on an Apps Server. I have managed to get the Forms and its embdeded graphs (*.ogd) working but am getting nowhere with the reports. The old standalone (6i) forms used to have a simple code to do RUN_PRODUCT(REPORTS,<reportfielname>, ... whicg would casue the reports background engine to run on the client and then use the Reports runtime engine.
    I have read the documentation on using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT built in but nothing happens .. My Apps Server has a component (created by default?) called Reports Server: rep_AN17001323j. How do I reference that in the Forms Report object code?

    Hi,
    The problem is indeed that host A is in an other subnet as host B.
    When running rwdiag -findAll, you can see which reports servers you can access in your current subnet.
    When issuing rwdiag -find <rep> you can try finding the reports server on host B.
    After configuring a 2 way reports bridge, I was able to find the reports server on host B
    and you should get something like:
    Broadcast mechanism used to locate servers
    Channel address = 228.5.6.7
    Channel port = 14021
    '<rep>' found in the network
    Time taken - 15 milliseconds
    Name = <rep> : null
    Thanks for your help!

    Omar,
    the Smart Agent is a part of the Object Request Broker (ORB) used by the Reports Services internal communication. Seeing the Smart Agent window shows you that the Reports Server is running. The problem you are having is that the Reports Servlet that you run from the URL in the Web implicitly starts the Reports Server for you. Forms does not use this Servlet for reporting and thus requires the Reports Services to be up and running when first requesting it. You need to start the Reports Server prior to using it with Forms. E.g. as a service:
    rwserver -install repsrv
    to install it as a windows service

  • Run a report in reports server calling it from a client/server form

    How can I run a report in reports server calling it from a client/server form ?
    Thanks

    In client server mode you can use RUN_PRODUCT built-in. Lookup help for this built-in for more details.

  • Can I use Oracle Report Server to print from APEX? How?

    Hello, we have Oracle Application server, Oracle Report server and now we just installed APEX and doing a pilot project. Since we don't have BI Publisher, how can we use our Oracle Report server to print from apex report? Can it be done and if yes where can I get some detail info that I can share with our DBA?
    I have in past asked questions about the printing issues but I have been refered to http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html#01 section 5 which talks about another installation.
    Thanks so very much for any info.
    -iahmadi

    You can use FOP, but the formatting of the xsl (Xml Style Sheets) takes a little work. If you have the Oracle Reports server up and access to the development product, why not go that route?
    You want the filtering and sorting and searching, yes, but then you also want to print them out.. Then you would probably be best looking at replacing the Oracle Reports setup with BI Publisher. You can convert Most your reports over to bi publisher layouts easily.. (I have heard of some reports that do require recreating in Bi Publisher from Oracle Reports..)
    Then you can have your Apex Reports and call Bi Publisher from APEX and everyone wins..
    Is your Oracle Reports stuff used by non-APEX applications, that could be modified to use Bi Publisher?

  • Calling Reports 10g from Forms 10g without an app server

    Hi
    I have Forms 10g, and for development/testing purposes I am able to run a form in my local machine using the standalone OC4J. I needn't to deploy the form to test it.
    I can do the same with Reports 10g -- run a report in my local machine without an app server.
    However, I could not manage to call a Report from a Form that way, without an app server. It does not seem possible -- is it? Is there a way to set this up using the standalone OC4J or something like that?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Sorry for the late reply.
    Here's how you start the report server from windows XP machine.
    1. Choose a unique name for the report server. Eg. <your_pc_name>_repserver
    2. As the report server runs in its own process, it can be started by the following command, accessible from the \ bin directory of the
    Oracle Developer Suite or Oracle Application Server 10g installation.
    rwserver –install <server_name> . It is now treated as a windows service and hence you can stop/start or restart from the services menu.
    3. If you want specific settings for your report server, look for the <rep_server_name>.conf file under <orahome>/reports/conf directory, after starting the server from above command. This file is created by oracle automatically, once the rep server gets started.
    For more info on this, please refer to white papers on the Forms and reports integration, found on the otn->Forms.
    Hope this helps

    Hi,
    You can use rep2excel utility for this. Download it from www.lv2000.com ,please find the complete link below. The software also has a code pack which demonstrates how to use it within your oracle report.

  • Calling Reports from a Form - Application Server Forms and Reports Services

    Hi
    We currently are running App Server 10G Forms and Reports and Oracle DB 11G. Forms are running fine with the Apps Server but what I need to find out is how do I set the path for the .rdf files of the reports and how do I configure the Apps Server to present the Reports? I am sure we have to edit a .conf file and add the server name but not sure what to do or how to do it?
    ps. I am a newb but I managed to get both of Apps Server and Database configured on my lonesome so I am just missing the info on the Reports side of things.
    The Developer has asked the following questions :-
    We want to run a report created in report builder from forms by using the following command in forms;
    web.show_document(v_url,'_blank');
    what does v_url need to be - we need to find an example showing the v_web_address and v_rpt_server
    v_url := 'http://'||v_web_address||'/reports/rwservlet?server='||v_rpt_server||'+report=test_report.rdf &desformat=PDF&userid=user/pw@database'
    Do we need to make changes on the report server configuration and where should the rdf files reside?

  • Using the Query Partitioning Technique for calling reports from forms.

    Hello everyone,
    I am having problems using the Query partitioning technique which does not work (??) on the web environment. It seems like you are currently using it. However, I'm not sure whether you have tried this on the web environment. Anyway, see if you can help me please.
    I am populating a record group using data from a form and then pass it as a data parameter to report.
    I use the following codes:
    Add_Parameter(list_id,'Q_1',DATA_PARAMETER,rg_name); /* rg_name is my record group */
    repid := find_report_object('myrep');
    v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid, list_id); /* list_id is my parameter list */
    In client-server mode, I set the report destination type to preview and it works fine. Data from the record group are displayed in the report.
    To run it on the web environment, I use the following properties:
    Report destination type: cache
    Report server: repserver
    I get no output and the Reports Queue Manager shows the following:
    Description:
    Name: /test/pfs/kn/rep/kn211rp0.rdf
    Owner: dev6
    Destination: Cache Only
    Destination Name:
    Status:

  • How to call reports 6i or forms 6i directly from oracle procedure

    Hi,
    Hi,
    Env: 6.0.8.25.2 (forms 6i/reports 6i)
    Database: Oracle 10g r2
    We are running a client server environment and not web based.
    I want to run the forms 6i or reports 6i directly from a database procedure/function and not by creating a procedure inside a form and then call a report.
    Looking for calling forms6i/reports 6i directly from sql*plus commands used inside the PLSQL database procedure/function. (Just like we create a stand alone package/procedure/function).
    I have developed many forms and reports and very comfortable in calling reports from forms 6i.
    My question was completely different but looks like i was not able to explain properly:
    I want to call the forms 6i or reports 6i directly from sqlplus* prompt and through stand alone oracle database procedure/function (procedure created directly in database but not as a program unit within form or report).
    There is a requirement to call the form through database scheduling by passing fixed parameters and then generate the report pdf and email automatically to various users.
    Also, is there any way to schedule a report automatically so that the report runs automatically in the scheduled time and send out reports to the users. I have developed a email program but looking for scheduling the report or forms 6i.
    Thanks,
    Srinivas

    Hi,
    There are couple of existing reports and forms developed in 6i and users are using them when required.
    For certain MIS reports, management wants them to be generated on daily/weekly basis and email to be sent to them as PDF files.
    Have a program which will convert to PDF and email to users but not able to trace on how to call the forms 6i or reports 6i and pass the report parameters so that the report is called directly through pl/sql so that i can schedule them.
    All the forms and report executables are located on server1 and database server is located in server2 and running on client/server architecture.
    Database version is 10g r2 and Forms/Reports version is 6i.
    Any code samples would be of great use.

    We have the applications in Forms6i & Reports 6i (Client Server) and migrating to Forms 10g and Reports 10g. We have the menu, from that menu we are calling all the forms and Reports. For especially Reports earlier we user RUN_PRODUCT but now 10g it is not working. How can call the report using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT
    Important things we have some dynamic parameters (input) to the each report. That means when i called the report from the menu i need to get first parameter form to take the parameters and then can be run the report.

    Here is the code to call report from menu in 10g
    DECLARE
    pl_id ParamList;
    repid REPORT_OBJECT;
    v_rep varchar2(100);
    v_server VARCHAR2(100);
    rep_status varchar2(100);
    v_host VARCHAR2(100);
    BEGIN
         select rep_server into v_server from reports_data;
         select machine into v_host from reports_data;
    pl_id := Get_Parameter_List('tmpdata');
         IF NOT Id_Null(pl_id) THEN
         Destroy_Parameter_List( pl_id );
         END IF;
         pl_id := Create_Parameter_List('tmpdata');
    Add_Parameter(pl_id,'P_C_CODE',TEXT_PARAMETER,:GLOBAL.COMPANY);
    Add_Parameter(pl_id,'P_B_CODE',TEXT_PARAMETER,:GLOBAL.BRANCH);
         repid := find_report_object('REPORTOBJ');
         SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_FILENAME,getpath||'E_VOUCHER_ENTRY.RDF');
              SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_COMM_MODE,SYNCHRONOUS);
              SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'htmlcss');
              SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_SERVER,v_server);
              v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid, pl_id);
              rep_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(v_rep);
              WHILE rep_status in ('RUNNING','OPENING_REPORT','ENQUEUED')
                   LOOP
                        rep_status := report_object_status(v_rep);
                             message('Running');
                   END LOOP;
              IF rep_status = 'FINISHED' or rep_status is NULL THEN
                   --Display report in the browser
                   WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://'||v_host||'/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?'||'server='||v_server,'_blank');
              ELSE
                   null;
         END IF;

  • Calling Reports From Forms

    Hello,
    i'm trying to call a Report from a Form but i'm getting the error:
    <b>Cannot Get Output of Job ID 91 you requested on Mon Feb 03 14:00:03 BRT 2003.
    REP-56033: Job 91 does not exist<b/>
    I'm using Reports Server 9i (9.0.2.3) and Forms Server 6i.
    The PL/SQL to call the report is something like the following:
    <b>declare
    v_rep_id Report_Object;
    v_rep_job_id Varchar2(200);
    v_rep_status Varchar2(200);
    begin
         v_rep_id := Find_Report_Object('RPT_GENERICO');
         Set_Report_Object_Property(v_rep_id, REPORT_FILENAME, 'plscvnd0013rpt');
         v_rep_job_id := Run_Report_Object(v_rep_id, pLista_ID);
         v_rep_status := Report_Object_Status(v_rep_job_id);
         while v_rep_status in ('RUNNING', 'OPENING_REPORT', 'ENQUEUED')
         loop
              v_rep_status := Report_Object_Status(v_rep_job_id);
         end loop;
         if v_rep_status = 'FINISHED' then
              Web.Show_Document('http://reports.caarj.com.br:7779/reports/rwservlet/getjobid' ||
                                                 substr(v_rep_job_id, 18) || '?server=Rep.caarj.com.br');
    end if;
    end;
    end if;
    Destroy_Parameter_List(pLista_ID);
    end;</b>
    I've already commented out the <security> section, and uncommented the <compatible version="6i"> in <reports_server>.conf file. The rwproxy service is up and running on port 1949 and i'm using SIGLE_SIGN_ON=NO in rwservlet.properties file.
    What could be wrong??
    Regards,
    Marcus Santos.

    Jermima,
    To call Reports9i from Forms6i it needs to be configured for backward compatibility. this means that your Reports9i server must run as if it was a 6i server.
    The following is from an unpublished paper I wrote on this topic:
    Using Reports9i with Forms 6i
    ====================================================
    To be able to call Reports9i Services from a Forms6i client, an extra Reports server process must be created. Oracle9iAS Reports Services knows of two kinds of Reports Server processes. The in-process server is started the first time that a Reports is requested from the Web by
    the Reports Servlet rwservlet. This Reports Server process cannot be used with Forms using Run_Report_Object and therefore a separate Reports Server process must be started prior to using it.
    This can be done by issuing he following command from the Oracle9iAS/bin directory rwserver <servername> batch=yes & (UNIX)or rwserver -install <service name> (WINDOWS)In both cases, the first time that the Reports Server starts, a Reports configuration file <servername>.conf (UNIX) or <service_name>.conf (WINDOWS) is created in the Oracle9iAS/reports/conf directory.
    To use Reports9i Services form a Forms6i client, this file needs some editing:
    The Reports Sevices configuration file gets created with the first start of the Oracle9iAS Reports Services. The configuration settings in this file determine the runtime behavior of the Reports Services.
    Two changes need to be applied to this file to make Oracle9iAs Services work with Forms6i client-server applications. Make sure that the Reports Services process was stopped before opening the Reports Services configuration file, located in the Oracle9iAS/reports/conf directory, with a text editor. The Reports Services configuration file name does apply to the following naming convention.
    Separate server process
    <ServiceName>.conf
    <server>
    [1] <!--compatible version="6i"/-->
    <cache class="oracle.reports.cache.RWCache">
    <property name="cacheSize" value="50"/>
    <!--property name="cacheDir" value="your cache directory"/-->
    <!--property name="maxCacheFileNumber" value="max number of files"/-->
    </cache>
    [2] <security id="rwSec" class="oracle.reports.server.RWSecurity">
    <property name="securityUserid" value="tyKAUY845QDO/2vyaGbQw …" confidential="yes" encrypted="yes"/>
    </security>
    </server>
    Change the following entries in the Reports Services configuration file for the Oracle9iAS Reports Services to accept requests from Forms 6i
    clients.
    [1] Uncomment this line to make Reports9i Services run in 6i compatibility mode. After uncommenting this line it should look similar to this
    <compatible version="6i"/>
    [2] Remove the <security> </security> tag pair and their included content. This effectively disables the Reports Services access control,
    which by default requires a system authentication to be provided by the user to before running a report.
    If later you want to recover access control, then all you need to do is to stop the Reports Services, delete the configuration file and start it up
    again. This leads to a new configuration file being created. Repeat step [1].
    Configure the tnsnames.ora file on the client and the server
    For the Forms6i client server application and the Oracle9i Reports Server to know each other, the tnsnames.ora file needs to be edited on
    both sides. The tnsnames.ora file to use is located in the Forms6i_Home/net80/admin directory on the client and the
    Oracle9iAS/network/admin directory on the server. Add the following entry to both files:
    <report_server_name>.<domain>=
    (ADDRESS=
    (PROTOCOL=tcp)
    (HOST=<hostname of the Reports Server installation>)
    (PORT=1950)
    The following entry is an example for a Reports Server with the name RepSRV in a “world domain. Note that the port number of the Reports
    Services is defaulted to 1950.
    RepSRV.world=
    (ADDRESS=
    (PROTOCOL=tcp)
    (HOST=<fnimphiu-lap.de.oacle.com)
    (PORT=1950)
    Rwservlet configuration file
    =============================
    Calling Oracle9iAS Reports Services from a Browser URL* accesse the reports servlet first, which then routes the request to the server
    engine, The Reports servlet rwservlet is configured by a file named rwservlet.properties, located in the Oracle9iAS/reports/conf directory.
    Open this file with a text editor and uncomment the following line by remiving the ‘#’ character in front of it.
    # SINGLESIGNON=YES
    Change the value of this varible to No, so that the whole entry reads
    SINGLESIGNON=NO.
    Restart the Oracle9i Application Server, restarting the Oracle process monitor service (OPM), for the changes to take effect.
    From now on the Reports Services does not require users to provide their single sign-on login password when retrieving the Report output
    from the Web, which is one option of getting a Report back to the client.
    * Note that you call the Servlet for retrieving the Reports output through web.show_document
