CALL transaction vs manual updation

Dear all,
I faced a very rear problem today so i want to share with you as well as want to find out the reason why it has happened....
I am working in the transaction VL02N and when i go and delete the handling unit number manually through the transaction, the entry of the handling unit number is deleted from the table VEKP.but when i delete the handling unit number through the CALL TRANSACTION  using the program ,the entry from the table VEKP is not deleted.
I had heard upto now that CALL TRANSACTIONS are only the movement from screens as we so manually through the transactions...So why this difference...Quite strange.....
Does anybody know why this happed... and how could i bring the both in sync...
Regards
Kanishak

you could process your call transaction in the light and see what happens.
Since the coding behind is the absolute same, there shouldnt be a difference. Or you have some customer mdifications/enhancements which are programmed to act different between call transaction and manually using the TA.

  • Call transaction - complex table update

    Hi experts,
I need to automate the transaction FI12 with a call transaction. As you know this transaction ask the user for a Company Code and for a House Bank. In this step the user can display or change the hose bank details or doubleclikng in "Bank Accounts" display or change the bank accounts asociated to the previously house bank.
My problem is that when I try to create a call transaction to change the bank accounts it show me the transaction with the house bank selected and it seems to be a problem in order to doubleclikng in "Bank Accounts".
    What could be the problem?
    Thanks.
    David.

    Hi Edgar,
I think if i place in the code a step to unselect all lines before the double click, the bank accounts associated to the house bank will not appear, i'll recibe a message in order to select one house bank.
Finally I've solved the problem calling the transaction with the company code and the house bank in the first screen, in the next screen i select the bank accounts view in the menu and then i select the appropiate bank account and call the change view from the menu bar.
    Thanks and regards.
    David.

  • CALL TRANSACTION in Update Function module

    Hi all
AFIK, it is not possible to trigger a CALL TRANSACTION for BDC update in an update function module. Yet, i jus wanna to confirm it with the xperts. what are other options for posting a BDC data in an update function module?

    Hi,
    Try this..
Create a new RFC function module and in the function module do all the coding for the BDC and CALL TRANSACTION..
Inside the update module call the RFC function module IN BACKGROUND TASK.
    I believe this should work..

  • Call transaction inside Update task

<b>Is it possible to use call transaction inside an update function module?</b>
    My requirement is like this.
When I execute LB10 storage units will be created..then we have to go to lt09 and then create a TO's there for all these Storage units..
Now, when I try to call a bdc session from an exit, the storage units are not  updated there. so the BDC is getting failed..
To resolve this, I kept all the BDC code in to a Zfunction module and made it an update funtion module. I am calling this function module form the exit IN UPDATE TASK.
But the call transaction is not working....
I have tried with L_TO_CREATE_MOVE_SU inside the Z function module..Still no use..
is there any other way that I can solve this?

    Hi,
Calling a FM in Update Task is one of the bundling techniques used in ABAP to avail functionality provided by SAP Update System. Here all database updates are processed at the end of the SAP LUW in contrast to normal FM call where the database updates are done and commited at the time of call (Database LUW). It is necessary to bundle all your database updates in an SAP LUW e.g. all database updates in a transaction (like VA01) should be bundled. Almost all standard SAP transactions use bundling techniques.
This technique separates the dialog process and update process. The dialog part of the transaction can span more than one screen(one dialog step) and can be processsed by more than one dialog work process. A work process is released when the dialog step changes (screen changes) and the work process sends a database commit (called Implicit Database LUW). So with each screen change there is a database commit and database remains in consistent state.
Now when using bundling technique, when a COMMIT WORK is encountered, system ends the dialog process with a dialog work porcess and starts the update process using an update work process.
The dialog step containing the COMMIT WORK is considerd as the last dialog step of the transaction and all the update function modules are processed now in the last dialog step by the update work process though they were called earlier during the earlier dialog steps.
It is necessary to create update FMs to take advantage of this technique. The update FM is created FM by setting the Update moduleradiobutton in the Attributes tab in SE37.
In a normal FM call, if there are database updates (UPDATE, INSERT, MODIFY, DELETE) than database is commited after the FM processing is over as the FM starts its own Database LUW and ends it too.

  • What is the use of Update type used with call transaction statement?

What is the difference between following option of call transaction-
    'A' (asynchronous update)
    'S' (synchronous update)
    'L' (local update)  ???
    Regards,
    GURU

In synchronous method incase if there is any change in the table all the related tables will be changed accordingly and then sy-subrc will be returned. In
asynchronous method in case if there is any change in the table the s-subrc will be immediatel returned and then the related tables will be updated. the diffrence between these two is in asynchronous even if the related tables are not updated the sy-subrc will still be returned as 0.

  • What are the parameters in Call transaction method?

    Hi ABAPER'S,
Please give me what are the parameters in call transaction method?
    Thanks,
    Prakash

Processing batch input data with CALL TRANSACTION USING is the faster of the two recommended data transfer methods. In this method, legacy data is processed inline in your data transfer program.
    Syntax:
    CALL TRANSACTION <tcode>
    USING <bdc_tab>
    MODE  <mode>
    UPDATE  <update>
    <tcode> : Transaction code
<bdc_tab> : Internal table of structure BDCDATA.
    <mode> : Display mode:
    A
    Display all
    E
    Display errors only
    N
    No display
    <update> : Update mode:
    S
    Synchronous
    A
    Asynchronous
    L
    Local update
A program that uses CALL TRANSACTION USING to process legacy data should execute the following steps:
Prepare a BDCDATA structure for the transaction that you wish to run.
With a CALL TRANSACTION USING statement, call the transaction and prepare the BDCDATA structure. For example:
    CALL TRANSACTION 'TFCA' USING BDCDATA
    MODE 'A'
    UPDATE 'S'.
    MESSAGES INTO MESSTAB.
    IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
    <Error_handling>.
    ENDIF.
    The MODE Parameter
You can use the MODE parameter to specify whether data transfer processing should be displayed as it happens. You can choose between three modes:
A Display all. All screens and the data that goes in them appear when you run your program.
N No display. All screens are processed invisibly, regardless of whether there are errors or not. Control returns to your program as soon as transaction processing is finished.
E Display errors only. The transaction goes into display mode as soon as an error in one of the screens is detected. You can then correct the error.
The display modes are the same as those that are available for processing batch input sessions.
    The UPDATE Parameter
You use the UPDATE parameter to specify how updates produced by a transaction should be processed. You can select between these modes:
A Asynchronous updating. In this mode, the called transaction does not wait for any updates it produces to be completed. It simply passes the updates to the SAP update service. Asynchronous processing therefore usually results in faster execution of your data transfer program.
Asynchronous processing is NOT recommended for processing any larger amount of data. This is because the called transaction receives no completion message from the update module in asynchronous updating. The calling data transfer program, in turn, cannot determine whether a called transaction ended with a successful update of the database or not.
If you use asynchronous updating, then you will need to use the update management facility (Transaction SM12) to check whether updates have been terminated abnormally during session processing. Error analysis and recovery is less convenient than with synchronous updating.
S Synchronous updating. In this mode, the called transaction waits for any updates that it produces to be completed. Execution is slower than with asynchronous updating because called transactions wait for updating to be completed. However, the called transaction is able to return any update error message that occurs to your program. It is much easier for you to analyze and recover from errors.
L Local updating. If you update data locally, the update of the database will not be processed in a separate process, but in the process of the calling program. (See the ABAP keyword documentation on SET UPDATE TASK LOCAL for more information.)
    The MESSAGES Parameter
The MESSAGES specification indicates that all system messages issued during a CALL TRANSACTION USING are written into the internal table <MESSTAB> . The internal table must have the structure BDCMSGCOLL .
You can record the messages issued by Transaction TFCA in table MESSTAB with the following coding:
(This example uses a flight connection that does not exist to trigger an error in the transaction.)
DATA: BEGIN OF BDCDATA OCCURS 100.
    INCLUDE STRUCTURE BDCDATA.
    DATA: END OF BDCDATA.
DATA: BEGIN OF MESSTAB OCCURS 10.
    INCLUDE STRUCTURE BDCMSGCOLL.
    DATA: END OF MESSTAB.
    BDCDATA-PROGRAM = 'SAPMTFCA'.
    BDCDATA-DYNPRO = '0100'.
    BDCDATA-DYNBEGIN = 'X'.
    APPEND BDCDATA.
    CLEAR BDCDATA.
    BDCDATA-FNAM = 'SFLIGHT-CARRID'.
    BDCDATA-FVAL = 'XX'.
    APPEND BDCDATA.
    BDCDATA-FNAM = 'SFLIGHT-CONNID'.
    BDCDATA-FVAL = '0400'.
    APPEND BDCDATA.
CALL TRANSACTION 'TFCA' USING BDCDATA MODE 'N'
    MESSAGES INTO MESSTAB.
    LOOP AT MESSTAB.
    WRITE: / MESSTAB-TCODE,
    MESSTAB-DYNAME,
    MESSTAB-DYNUMB,
    MESSTAB-MSGTYP,
    MESSTAB-MSGSPRA,
    MESSTAB-MSGID,
    MESSTAB-MSGNR.
    ENDLOOP.
The following figures show the return codes from CALL TRANSACTION USING and the system fields that contain message information from the called transaction. As the return code chart shows, return codes above 1000 are reserved for data transfer. If you use the MESSAGES INTO <table> option, then you do not need to query the system fields shown below; their contents are automatically written into the message table. You can loop over the message table to write out any messages that were entered into it.
    Return codes:
    Value
    Explanation
    0
    Successful
    <=1000
    Error in dialog program
    > 1000

    System fields:

    Error Analysis and Restart Capability
Unlike batch input methods using sessions, CALL TRANSACTION USING processing does not provide any special handling for incorrect transactions. There is no restart capability for transactions that contain errors or produce update failures.
You can handle incorrect transactions by using update mode S (synchronous updating) and checking the return code from CALL TRANSACTION USING. If the return code is anything other than 0, then you should do the following:
write out or save the message table
use the BDCDATA table that you generated for the CALL TRANSACTION USING to generate a batch input session for the faulty transaction. You can then analyze the faulty transaction and correct the error using the tools provided in the batch input management facility.

  • Issue with using call transaction CJ9F and F.M  BAPI_PROJECT_MAINTAIN

    Hello All,
In my custom program for a given project in selection screen we are getting all the related data as shown in CJ20N, in this screen I first created the WBS element and during save we used F.M BAPI_PROJECT_MAINTAIN to update the data, and next called transaction CJ9F to update BLC, after this we are comming back to selection screen 1000.
Now from selection screen if i enter again into that project details screen and try to create a new WBS it is showing below information msg.
Changing the contents of the field is not permitted
    Message no. CJ727
If i remove the call transaction CJ9F part during save i am not getting the above error msg.
I think i am getting this error when we call the function module BAPI_PROJECT_MAINTAIN twice in the program.
Please help me to resolve this issue, as this msg is not allowing to save or create anything.
But i found that if i come totally out of my custom transaction and enter once again into that Z transaction it is working fine with out that message
Please help me to resolve this issue.

    Hi,
Not sure, but if it is possible, complete your project update using the custom transaction and do the CJ9F afterwards seperately.

  • CALL transaction in back ground

    Hi
i am writeing the bdc program for iw32 transaction using call transaction
iw32 for updating the status of a order
it is working good in all screesns mode and error mode
but it is not updating the status of a order in no screens mode
    any answers

In all screens mode you should be doing nothing but pressing enter until the end of processing.
But as you had said you check something to set the status, if I ain't wrong I think you should go through your code so that even the status is set when the transaction is run and you need to only keep pressing enter to go through all the screens.
Check where in all screens mode where user interaction is being done by you and try modifing the code. Try putting in code for the status selection. Then it will not give any error and will go through without any user-interaction.
Hope what I had to say is useful to you.

    Raga Suman.

  • Call transaction procedure supports Tcode-  BBPMAININT?

    Hi,
I am trying to use Call Transaction procedure for updating vendor details and also sending email conformation for vendor registration when they select Portal Vendor check box.

  • Difference b/w call transaction and session method

    hi there,
whatz the major difference b/w call transaction and session method in BDC.
    thanks in advance
    dattu

    Vijay,
    Welcome to SDN
    <b>SESSION METHOD</b>
Data is not updated in database table unless Session is processed.
    No sy-subrc is returned.
Error log is created for error records.
Updation in database table is always synchronous
    <b>CALL TRANSACTION</b>
    Immediate updation in database table.
    Sy-subrc is returned.
Errors need to be handled explicitly
Updation in database table can be synchronous Or Asynchronous.

  • Call transaction and session method

    Hi All
what does the following phrase imply:
<b>1. The system performs a database commit immediately before and after the CALL TRANSACTION USING statement</b>
    and
<b>2. what does sync and async processing mean in session and call transaction.</b>
can an example be sited for the above?

    Hi
Asynchronous Update – The program does not wait for the work process to finish the update. Commit Work.
Synchronous Update – The program wait for the work process to finish the update. Commit Work and Wait.
Asynchronous updating. In this mode, the called transaction does not wait for any updates it produces to be completed. It simply passes the updates to the SAP update service. Asynchronous processing therefore usually results in faster execution of your data transfer program.
Asynchronous processing is NOT recommended for processing any larger amount of data. BDC:
Batch Data Communication (BDC) is the process of transferring data from one SAP System to another SAP system or from a non-SAP system to SAP System.
    Features :
    BDC is an automatic procedure.
This method is used to transfer large amount of data that is available in electronic medium.
BDC can be used primarily when installing the SAP system and when transferring data from a legacy system (external system).
BDC uses normal transaction codes to transfer data.
    Types of BDC :
    CLASSICAL BATCH INPUT (Session Method)
    CALL TRANSACTION
    BATCH INPUT METHOD:
This method is also called as ‘CLASSICAL METHOD’.
    Features:
    Asynchronous processing.
    Synchronous Processing in database update.
Transfer data for more than one transaction.
Batch input processing log will be generated.
During processing, no transaction is started until the previous transaction has been written to the database.
    CALL TRANSACTION METHOD :
This is another method to transfer data from the legacy system.
    Features:
Synchronous processing. The system performs a database commit immediately before and after the CALL TRANSACTION USING statement.
Updating the database can be either synchronous or asynchronous. The program specifies the update type.
Transfer data for a single transaction.
Transfers data for a sequence of dialog screens.
No batch input processing log is generated.

    Hi,
If any error comes in Session method U can find that error in SM35->Log
and updste again database for those enteries
In cll transaction Method U have to handel error manually . for this u have to use structure BDCMSGCOL and Table T100.

  • Is BDC's CALL TRANSACTION 'VA01' is not equals to ONLINE(manual) creation?

    Hi Experts,
    Ours is IS-Oil.
If the user do not enters/inputs OIC_MOT (Mode Of Transport) at ITEM level on the External Details popup, SAP will get it from Customar Master-KNA1 and populates on it, because its a mandatory field (OIC_MOT), but, do not throws an Error message and interupts the sales order creation process.
We have a inbound IDOC posting function module for sales order (VA01), which posts the sales oreders by using BDC (CALL TRANSACTION 'VA01') in the system. In this function module, we are not populating the OIC_MOT field contained segment by hoping SAP will populate/default it while it hits CALL TRANSACTION 'VA01' of my BDC of my FM of IB IDOC. But, SAP is not defaulting/populating and throwing error message (saying 'OIC_MOT field is a mandatory input field' data is missing) and IDOC is failing, pls. let me know Wht its so? is the BDC's CALL TRANSACTION 'VA01' is not equals to ONLINE (manual ) creation of sales order?
    Thank you

    Hi
Several transactions can ba a different behavior between online and bdc process, but if you simulate the trx by SM35 you should find out these gaps
I don't know OIL vertical, but the main transactions have a bapi can be used insted of BDC program (BAPI_SALESORDER_CREATEFROMDAT2, but perhaps there's a particular BAPI for OIL).
